| 1 | Co-occurrence Patterns of Above-ground and Below-ground Mite Communities in Farmland of Sanjiang Plain, Northeast China显示文摘One of the fundamental questions in community ecology is whether communities are random or formed by deterministic mechanisms. Although many efforts have been made to verify non-randomness in community structure, little is known with regard to co-occurrence patterns in above-ground and below-ground communities. In this paper, we used a null model to test non-randomness in the structure of the above-ground and below-ground mite communities in farmland of the Sanjiang Plain, Northeast China. Then, we used four tests for non-randomness to recognize species pairs that would be demonstrated as significantly aggregated or segregated co-occurrences of the above-ground and below-ground mite communities. The co-occurrence pattern of the above-ground mite community was significantly non-random in October, suggesting species segregation and hence interspecific competition. Additionally, species co-occurrence patterns did not differ from randomness in the above-ground mite community in August or in below-ground mite communities in August and October. Only one significant species pair was detected in the above-ground mite community in August, while no significant species pairs were recognized in the above-ground mite community in October or in the below-ground mite communities in August and October. | 2 | Assessing the global averaged sea-level budget from 2003 to 2010显示文摘A global mass balance(Greenland and Antarctica ice sheet mass loss,terrestrial water storage)and different sea-level components(observed sea-level from satellite altimetry,steric sea-level from Ishii data,and ocean mass from gravity recovery and climate experiment,GRACE)are estimated,in terms of seasonal and interannual variabilities from 2003 to 2010.The results show that a detailed analysis of the GRACE time series over the time period 2003–2010 unambiguously reveals an increase in mass loss from the Greenland ice sheet and Antarctica ice sheet.The mass loss of both ice sheets accelerated at a rate of(392.8±70.0)Gt/a during 2003–2010,which contributed(1.09±0.19)mm/a to the global mean sea-level during this time.The net terrestrial water storage(TWS)trend was negative over the 8 a time span,which gave a small positive contribution of(0.25±0.12)mm/a.The interannual variability of the global mean sea-level was at least partly caused by year-to-year variability of land water storage.Estimating GRACE-based ice sheet mass balance and terrestrial water storage by using published estimates for melting glaciers,the results further show that the ocean mass increase since 2003 has resulted half from an enhanced contribution of the polar ice sheets,and half from the combined ice sheet and terrestrial water storage loss.Taking also into account the melting of mountain glaciers(0.41 mm/a)and the small GRACE-based contribution from continental waters(0.25 mm/a),a total ocean mass contribution of(1.75±0.57)mm/a from 2003 to 2010 is found.Such a value represented 75%of the altimetry-based rate of sea-level rise over that period.The contributions to steric sea-level(i.e.,ocean thermal expansion plus salinity effects)are estimated from:(1)the difference between altimetry-based sea-level and ocean mass change and(2)the latest Ishii data.The inferred steric sea-level rate from(1)(1.41 mm/a from 2003 to 2010)did not agree well with the Ishii-based value also estimated here(0.44 mm/a from 2003 to 2010),but phase.The cause for such a discrepancy is not yet known but may be related to inadequate sampling of in situ ocean temperature and salinity measurements. | LI Juan ZUO Juncheng CHEN Meixiang TAN Wei YANG Yiqiu | 2013 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2013,32,10: | 6 |

| 4 | Combined deficiency of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 prevents endotoxin-induced liver inflammation by downregulating TLR4 expression on macrophages显示文摘Classical signaling lymphocyte activating molecule(SLAM)family receptors are abundant within many types of immune cells,whereas the nonclassical SLAM family receptors SLAMF8 and SLAMF9,which uniquely lack cytoplasmic signaling motifs,are highly expressed by myeloid cells.Due to the potential redundancy,whether these two receptors regulate macrophage function remains largely unknown.Here,we show that SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 co-regulate macrophage-mediated liver inflammation.To overcome the redundancy,we generated mice that simultaneously lacked SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 using CRISPR-Cas9 technology.Although macrophage differentiation was not altered by the combined deficiency of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9,the loss of these two receptors significantly protected against lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced liver injury.SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 double-deficient mice had a prolonged survival rate and less infiltration of inflammatory cells.The depletion of macrophages using clodronate liposomes abolished the effects of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 deficiencies on LPS-induced liver injury,which demonstrates that these receptors are required for macrophage activation following LPS challenge.Moreover,the deficiency of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 suppressed the secretion of inflammatory cytokines by downregulating the expression of Toll-like receptor-4(TLR4),a receptor that specifically binds LPS,which led to decreased mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK)signaling activation.Notably,combined injections of truncated extracellular SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 proteins significantly alleviated LPS-induced liver injury.Thus,our findings provide insights into the role of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 in endotoxin-induced liver injury and suggest that SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 are potential therapeutic targets for acute hepatic injury. | Xiaokang Zeng Guangao Liu Wanwen Peng Junming He Chenxu Cai Wei Xiong Shasha Chen Meixiang Yang Zhongjun Dong | 2020 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2020,17,2: | 5 |
| 5 | A Phytophthora capsid Effector Targets ACD11 Binding Partners that Regulate ROS-Mediated Defense Response in Arabidopsis显示文摘Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a vital role in plant immune response, but the genes involved in the regulation of ROS are scantily reported. Phytophthora pathogens produce a large number of effectors to promote infection, but the modes of action adopted are largely unknown. Here, we report that RxLR207 could activate ROS-mediated cell death in Nicotiana benthamiana and was essential for virulence of P. capsici. We found that this effector targeted BPA1 (binding partner of ACD11) and four members of BPLs (BPAl-Like proteins)in Arabidopsis, and the bpa1 and bpl mutants had enhanced ROS accumulation and cell death under biotic or abiotic stresses. Furthermore, we showed that BPA1 and several BPLs functioned redundantly in plant immunity to P. capsici. We discovered that BPA1 and all six BPLs interacted with ACD11, and stabilization of ACD11 was impaired in the bpa 1, bpl2, bpl3, and bpl4 mutants. RxLR207 could promote the degradation of BPA1, BPL1, BPL2, and BPL4 to disrupt ACD11 stabilization in a 26S proteasome-dependent manner. | 6 | Effects of Continuous Cropping of Panax notoginseng on the Properties of Rhizosphere Soil显示文摘[Objective] This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of continuous cropping of Panax notoginseng on the properties of rhizosphere soil. [Method] A total of 12 rhizospheres oil samples were collected in the fields continuously cropped with P. notoginseng for different years and the soil properties including pH value, contents of available N, available K, available P,total N, total K, total P and organic matter were determined. [Result] With the increase in the number of years of continuous cropping, seven soli indices: soil pH value, organic matter content, total N, total P, total K, available P and available K gradually increased, while available N showed a gradual downward trend. The contents of organic matter content, total N, total P, total K,available P, available K and available N after three years of continuous cropping were increased by 74.93%, 65.85%, 123.82%,18.78%, 341.67%, 120.16% and-32.16%, respectively, indicating that continuous cropping of P. notoginseng resulted in nutrient enrichment in rhizosphere soils. The pH value and available N in IBC(soil inside the border check) and UBC(soil under the border check) were higher than that in BBC(soil beside the border check), suggesting that the soil was gradually alkalized due to the continuous cropping of P. notoginseng. | 7 | Responses of Soil Fauna Structure and Leaf Litter Decomposition to Effective Microorganism Treatments in Da Hinggan Mountains,China显示文摘Microorganisms are nutritious resources for various soil fauna.Although soil fauna grazing affects microorganism composition and decomposition rate,the responses of soil fauna and leaf litter decomposition to added microorganism is little understood.In this study,in the coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest of Tahe County in the northern Da Hinggan Mountains,China,three sampling sites(each has an area of 10 m2) were selected.The first two sites were sprinkled with 250 times(EM1) and 1000 times(EM2) diluted effective microorganism(EM) preparations evenly,and the third site was sprinkled with the same volume of water as a control site.The responses of soil fauna structure and leaf litter decomposition to EM treatment were conducted during three years.The results revealed that EM treatment resulted in significant increase of soil organic matter.The number of soil fauna in the EM1 and EM2 sites increased by 12.88% and 2.23% compared to the control site,and among them springtails and mites showed the highest increase.However,the groups of soil fauna in the EM1 and EM2 sites decreased by 6 and 9,respectively.And the changes in the diversity and evenness index were relatively complicated.EM treatment slowed the decomposition of broad-leaved litter,but accelerated the decomposition of coniferous litter.However,the decomposition rate of broad-leaved litter was still higher than that of coniferous litter.The results of this study suggested that the added microorganisms could help individual growth of soil fauna,and this method led to a change in the process of leaf litter decomposition.This paper did not analyze the activity of soil microorganisms,thus it is difficult to clearly explain the complex relationships among litter type,soil fauna and soil microorganisms.Further research on this subject is needed. | GAO Meixiang LI Jingke ZHANG Xueping | 2012 | Chinese Geographical Science2012,22,6: | 4 |
| 8 | Sacrificial microgel‑laden bioink‑enabled 3D bioprinting of mesoscale pore networks显示文摘Three-dimensional(3D)bioprinting is a powerful approach that enables the fabrication of 3D tissue constructs that retain complex biological functions.However,the dense hydrogel networks that form after the gelation of bioinks often restrict the migration and proliferation of encapsulated cells.Herein,a sacrificial microgel-laden bioink strategy was designed for directly bioprinting constructs with mesoscale pore networks(MPNs)for enhancing nutrient delivery and cell growth.The sacrificial microgel-laden bioink,which contains cell/gelatin methacryloyl(GelMA)mixture and gelled gelatin microgel,is first thermo-crosslinked to fabricate temporary predesigned cell-laden constructs by extrusion bioprinting onto a cold platform.Then,the construct is permanently stabilized through photo-crosslinking of GelMA.The MPNs inside the printed constructs are formed after subsequent dissolution of the gelatin microgel.These MPNs allowed for effective oxygen/nutrient diffusion,facilitating the generation of bioactive tissues.Specifically,osteoblast and human umbilical vein endothelial cells encapsulated in the bioprinted large-scale constructs(≥1 cm)with MPNs showed enhanced bioactivity during culture.The 3D bioprinting strategy based on the sacrificial microgel-laden bioink provided a facile method to facilitate formation of complex tissue constructs with MPNs and set a foundation for future optimization of MPN-based tissue constructs with applications in diverse areas of tissue engineering. | Lei Shao Qing Gao Chaoqi Xie Jianzhong Fu Meixiang Xiang Zhenjie Liu Liulin Xiang Yong He | 2020 | Bio-Design and Manufacturing2020,3,1: | 3 |
| 9 | Factors that affect the assembly of ground-dwelling beetles at small scales in primary mixed broadleaved-Korean pine forests in north-east China显示文摘Disentangling the relative roles of environmental and spatial processes in community assembly is a major task of community ecology.It is necessary to uncover this question at multiple spatial scales;however,the relative importance of spatial and environmental processes on ground-dwelling beetle assembly at a small scale is still unclear.Based on two permanent plots(each 300 m)located in primary mixed broadleaved-Korean pine forests,the topographic,soil,and plant factors were collected,and the spatial variables(MEMs,distancebased Moran’s eigenvector maps)were calculated.A redundancy analysis(RDA)was used to evaluate the influence of topographic,soil,and plant variables on ground-dwelling beetle compositions.A variation partitioning analysis was used to quantify the relative contributions of environmental and spatial processes on the assembly of ground-dwelling beetles.The results of the RDA reported that the soil,plant,and topographic variables affected Staphylinidae and Silphidae beetle compositions in both plots.According to the results of variation partitioning,pure soil and plant variables were important for the assembly of Silphidae beetles in the LS plot.The contributions of pure topographic,soil,and plant variables were significantly lower than those of pure spatial variables.The contributions of pure spatial variables were significant for the assembly of Staphylinidae and Silphidae beetles in both plots.In addition,the relative importance of environmental and spatial processes was not significantly changed after including more environmental variables and the unexplained variations.Finally,this study suggests that both spatial and environmental variables are important for the assembly of ground-dwelling beetle communities,while pure spatial variables are more important than pure environmental variables at a small scale(300 m). | Meixiang Gao Zhihong Qiao Hongyu Hou Guangze Jin Donghui Wu | 2020 | Soil Ecology Letters2020,2,1: | 3 |
| 10 | Optimization of denitrifying phosphorus removal in a predenitrification anaerobic/anoxic/post-aeration+nitrification sequence batch reactor(pre-A_(2)NSBR)system:Nitrate recycling,carbon/nitrogen ratio and carbon source type显示文摘Because the efficiency of biological nutrient removal is always limited by the deficient carbon source for the low carbon/nitrogen(C/N)ratio in real domestic sewage,the denitrifying phosphorus removal(DNPR)was developed as a simple and efficient method to remove nitrogen and phosphorous.In addition,this method has the advantage of saving aeration energy while reducing the sludge production.In this context,a pre-denitrification anaerobic/anoxic/post-aeration+nitrification sequence batch reactor(pre-A_(2)NSBR)system,which could also reduce high ammonia effluent concentration in the traditional two-sludge DNPR process,is proposed in this work.The pre-A_(2)NSBR process was mainly composed of a DNPR SBR and a nitrifying SBR,operating as alternating anaerobic/anoxic/post-aeration+nitrification sequence.Herein,the long-term performance of different nitrate recycling ratios(0-300%)and C/N ratios(2.5-8.8),carbon source type,and functional microbial community were studied.The results showed that the removal efficiency of total inorganic nitrogen(TIN,including NH4^(+)-N,NO_(2)^(-)-N,and NO_(3)^(-)-N)gradually increased with the nitrate recycling ratios,and the system reached the highest DNPR efficiency of 94.45% at the nitrate recycling ratio of 300%.The optimum C/N ratio was around 3.9-7.3 with a nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency of 80.15%and 93.57%,respectively.The acetate was proved to be a high-quality carbon source for DNPR process.The results of fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH)analysis indicated that nitrifiers and phosphorus accumulating organisms(PAOs)were accumulated with a proportion of 19.41%and 26.48%,respectively. | Weihua Zhao Meixiang Wang Jianwei Li Yu Huang Baikun Li Cong Pan Xiyao Li Yongzhen Peng | 2018 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2018,12,5: | 3 |

| 17 | Review on the characteristics of liver-pacifying medicinal in relation to the treatment of stroke: from scientific evidence to traditional medical theory显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To analyze the characteristics of liver pacifying medicinal in the treatment of brain disease to provide scientific evidence in clinical usage on stroke.METHODS: MEDLINE/Pub Med, Google Scholar,and China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database were used as the literature sources. The Scientific name, Latin pharmaceutical name,Chinese name of 7 kinds of liver pacifying medicinal including Gouteng(Ramulus Uncariae Rhynchophyllae cum Uncis), Tianma(Rhizoma Gastrodiae), Juemingzi(Semen Cassiae Obtusifoliae),Quanxie(Scorpio), Wugong(Scolopendra), Jiangcan(Bombyx Batryticatus), and Dilong(Pheretima Aspergillum) were used as the keywords to search the databases for relevant publications up to July2016. Their major compounds were also used as the keywords. The papers were selected based on the pharmacological activities and mechanisms of action related to brain diseases and subsequently,were analyzed and reviewed. We first described the origin, efficacy, and clinical indications of selected medicines, then brain disease specific activities focusing on stroke after the description of the general pharmacological activities.RESULTS: On the basis of the literature of scientific studies and clinical use in traditional medicine, we found and discussed the characteristics of liver pacifying medicinal in stroke treatment. First, liver-pacifying medicinal,or their components, might pass through the blood-brain barrier and act directly on neurons or on the neural network to provide protective effects against brain disease.
