1Synthesis of ion imprinted polymers for selective recognition and separation of rare earth metals显示文摘Lanthanide-ion imprinted polymers(L-IIPs) were synthesized by stoichiometric amounts of rare earth ions and the cavities in the polymers were created for the corresponding lanthanide ions. The maximum sorption capacities were estimated to be 125.3, 126.5, 127.6, 128.2 and 129.1 mg/g for Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu and Gd, respectively at p H 6. In the selectivity study, the L-IIPs exhibited good selectivity to the specific rare earth ions in the presence of coexisting cations. 3Synthesis and photoswitching properties of azobenzene liquid crystals with a pentafluorobenzene terminal显示文摘The fluorine-substituted benzoate ester rod-shaped liquid crystals containing an azobenzene side chain linked with terminal double bonds were synthesized and characterized.The mesophase and photoswitching properties were determined by polarizing optical microscopy(POM),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and UV-visible spectrometry.The rod-shaped compound 4a having an odd number of carbon atoms in the alkyl chains exhibits nematic phase and SmA type phase whereas compound 4b having an even number of carbon atoms showed only nematic phase.Both fluorinecontaining compounds 4c and 4d showed only SmA type phases.The photoswitching properties of these compounds showed a rate of trans to cis isomerization ranging 19-20 s,whereas reverse process took around 230 min in solution.These materials may be ideal in the field of optically rewritable applications where both on and off rates should be crucial.Md Lutfor Rahman Gurumuthy Hegde Shaheen M.Sarkar Mashitah Mohd Yusoff 2014Chinese Chemical Letters2014,25,12:4
4Intracellular biosynthesis of Au and Ag nanoparticles using ethanolic extract of Brassica oleracea L. and studies on their physicochemical and biological properties显示文摘In this present study, we reported broccoli(Brassica oleracea L.) as a potential candidate for the synthesis of gold and silver nanoparticles(NPs) in green chemistry method. The synthesized metal nanoparticles are evaluated their antimicrobial efficacy against different human pathogenic organisms. The physico-chemical properties of gold nanoparticles were analyzed using different analytical techniques such as a UV–Vis spectrophotometer, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and a Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometer. In addition, gold and silver NP antimicrobial efficacy was checked by disc diffusion assay. UV–Vis color intensity of the nanoparticles was shown at 540 and 450 nm for gold and silver nanoparticles respectively. Higher magnification of the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy image shows the variable morphology of the gold nanoparticles such as spherical, rod and triangular shapes and silver nanoparticles were seen in spherical shapes. The average spherical size of the particles was observed in 24–38 nm for gold and 30–45 nm for silver NPs. X-ray diffraction pattern confirmed the presence of gold nanoparticles and silver nanoparticles which were crystalline in nature. Additionally,the functional metabolites were identified by the Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy. IR spectra revealed phenols, alcohols, aldehydes(sugar moieties), vitamins and proteins are present in the broccoli extract which are accountable to synthesize the nanoparticles. The synthesized gold and silver NPs inhibited the growth of the tested bacterial and fungal pathogens at the concentration of 50 μg/m L respectively. 18Genetic diversity in eggplant(Solanum melongena L.)germplasm from three secondary geographical origins of diversity using SSR markers显示文摘Indo-Burmese region was the primary center of eggplant diversity from where the crop extended to several secondary origins of diversity.In this study,the genetic diversity among fifty-six eggplant accessions collected from three countries was assessed using sixteen polymorphic SSR markers to determine suitable parents for heterotic hybridization.The estimation of genetic diversity among the population of three countries(Bangladesh,Malaysia,and Thailand)varied from 0.57 to 0.74,with Shannon’s index value of 0.65.The mean value of expected heterozygosity and Nei’s index was 0.49,with an average PIC value of 0.83.A dendrogram was constructed based on UPGMA(unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean),and the dendrogram categorized all accessions into six groups.The AMOVA(analysis of molecular variance)revealed a 77%total variation within the population from three different countries and 23%total variation among the populations.The result revealed a high genetic differentiation among the eggplant germplasms while the accessions that are farther from each other show a high level of diversity;thus,they can be recommended as parental in breeding programs.Hence,accessions,EB12,ET11,ET13,ET15,ET16,and ET17 could be crossed with accessions EM3,EB34,and EB3 for improvement in the future breeding program.DEBI RANI DATTA MOHD RAFII YUSOP AZIZAH MISRAN MASHITAH JUSOH YUSUFF OLADOSU FATAI AROLU AZADUL HAQUE NADZIRAH MSULAIMAN 2021BIOCELL2021,45,5:0

20Kenaf cellulose-based poly(amidoxime) ligand for adsorption of rare earth ions显示文摘A well-known adsorbent, poly(amidoxime)ligand, was prepared from polyacrylonitrile(PAN) grafted kenaf cellulose, and subsequent characterization was performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS).The adsorption capacities of the prepared ligand for rare earth metals are found to be excellent, with adsorptions of La^(3+), Ce^(3+), Pr^(3+), Gd^(3+) and Nd^(3+) experimentally determined to be 262, 255, 244, 241 and 233 mg·g^(-1), respectively, at pH 6. The experimental values of the adsorption of rare earth metals are well matched with the pseudosecond-order rate equation. The reusability of the adsorbent is examined for seven cycles of sorption/desorption,demonstrating that the proposed adsorbent could be reused for over seven cycles without any significant loss in the original removal capability of the ligand.Md Lutfor Rahman Mohd Sani Sarjadi Sazmal Effendi Arshad Mashitah M.
