2Blood Lipid Profile and Prevalence of Dyslipidemia in Chinese Adults显示文摘Objective To investigate the plasma lipid levels in a national representative sample of subjects and to determine the prevalence of dyslipidemia in the Chinese population.Methods Plasma lipid profile was analyzed using the data obtained during the Chinese national nutrition and health survey(CNHS)in 2002 which involved 14 252 participants at the age of 18 years or older.Results The mean levels of total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG)and high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)in the participants were 3.81 mmol/L,1.10 mmol/L,and 1.30 mmol/L,respectively.In the groups of participants at the age of 18-44 years,45-59 years,and over 60 years the mean TC level was 3.70 mmol/L,4.09 mmol/L and 4.21 mmol/L,respectively,and the mean TG level was 07 mmol/L,1.21 mmol/L,1.20 mmol/L,1.29 mmol/L,1.33 mmol/L,and 1.33 mmol/L,respectively.The prevalence of dyslipidemia in Chinese adults was 18.6% and 22.2% in males and 15.9% in females.Dyslipidemia prevalence was higher in urban districts than in rural areas(21.0% vs.17.7%).The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia,hypertriglyceridemia,and low HDL cholesterol was 2.9%,11.9%,and 7.4% respectively among the participants.Conclusion Dyslipidemia has become one of the important health risk factors in the Chinese population.There is no significantly difference in the prevalence of dyslipidemia between the groups of participants at the age of 45-59 years and over 60 years.This study provides important lipid profile data for policy making and guideline development for the prevention of dyslipidemia in the Chinese population.WEN-HUA ZHAO JIAN ZHANG YI ZHAI YUE YOU QING-QING MAN CHUN-RONG WANG HONG LI YING LI XIAO-GUANG YANG 2007Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2007,20,4:22
3Acute cerebrovascular disease following COVID-19: a single center, retrospective, observational study显示文摘Background and purpose COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Apart from respiratory complications,acute cerebrovascular disease(CVD)has been observed in some patients with COVID-19.Therefore,we described the clinical characteristics,laboratory features,treatment and outcomes of CVD complicating SARS-CoV-2 infection.Materials and methods Demographic and clinical characteristics,laboratory findings,treatments and clinical outcomes were collected and analysed.Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of patients with COVID-19 with or without new-onset CVD were compared.Results Of 219 patients with COVID-19,10(4.6%)developed acute ischaemic stroke and 1(0.5%)had intracerebral haemorrhage.COVID-19 with new onset of CVD were significantly older(75.7±10.8 years vs 52.1±15.3 years,p<0.001),more likely to present with severe COVID-19(81.8%vs 39.9%,p<0.01)and were more likely to have cardiovascular risk factors,including hypertension,diabetes and medical history of CVD(all p<0.05).In addition,they were more likely to have increased inflammatory response and hypercoagulable state as reflected in C reactive protein(51.1(1.3-127.9)vs 12.1(0.1-212.0)mg/L,p<0.05)and D-dimer(6.9(0.3-20.0)vs 0.5(0.1-20.0)mg/L,p<0.001).Of 10 patients with ischemic stroke;6 received antiplatelet treatment with aspirin or clopidogrel;and 3 of them died.The other four patients received anticoagulant treatment with enoxaparin and 2 of them died.As of 24 March 2020,six patients with CVD died(54.5%).Conclusion Acute CVD is not uncommon in COVID-19.Our findings suggest that older patients with risk factors are more likely to develop CVD.The development of CVD is an important negative prognostic factor which requires further study to identify optimal management strategy to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.Yanan Li Man Li Mengdie Wang Yifan Zhou Jiang Chang Ying Xian David Wang Ling Mao Huijuan Jin Bo Hu 2020Stroke & Vascular Neurology2020,5,3:22
4Brain tumor-targeted drug delivery strategies显示文摘Despite the application of aggressive surgery,radiotherapy and chemotherapy in clinics,brain tumors are still a difficult health challenge due to their fast development and poor prognosis.Brain tumor-targeted drug delivery systems,which increase drug accumulation in the tumor region and reduce toxicity in normal brain and peripheral tissue,are a promising new approach to brain tumor treatments.Since brain tumors exhibit many distinctive characteristics relative to tumors growing in peripheral tissues,potential targets based on continuously changing vascular characteristics and the microenvironment can be utilized to facilitate effective brain tumor-targeted drug delivery.In this review,we briefly describe the physiological characteristics of brain tumors,including blood–brain/brain tumor barriers,the tumor microenvironment,and tumor stem cells.We also review targeted delivery strategies and introduce a systematic targeted drug delivery strategy to overcome the challenges.Xiaoli Wei Xishan Chen Man Ying Weiyue Lu 2014Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2014,4,3:14

6Blood perfusion of the contralateral testis evaluated with contrast-enhanced ultrasound in rabbits with unilateral testicular torsion显示文摘The changes of blood perfusion of contralateral testis after unilateral testicular torsion remain controversial.In this study,28 New Zealand white male rabbits were randomly divided into five groups.Group A(n=8),the control group,underwent a sham operation on the unilateral testis without inducing testicular torsion.In groups B,C,and D(n=5 each),unilateral testicular torsion was induced,and,after 3,6 or 24 h,respectively,detorsion was performed.In group E(n=5),permanent unilateral testicular torsion was applied.Contrast-enhanced ultrasound was used to observe the blood perfusion of the contralateral testis at the following stages:pre-torsion(preopration),immediately post-torsion(postopration),pre-detorsion,immediately post-detorsion,and late-stage post-detorsion(6-12 h post-detorsion in groups B-D)or at a similar time point(15-21 h post-torsion in group E).Time-intensity curves were generated,and the following parameters were derived and analyzed:arrival time,time to peak intensity,peak intensity,and half-time of the descending peak intensity.The analysis revealed that blood perfusion of the contralateral testis increased immediately after testicular torsion on the opposite side(P<0.05),which increased with prolonged testicular torsion of the other testis.This research demonstrated that contrast-enhanced ultrasound was valuable in evaluating blood perfusion of the contralateral testis after unilateral testicular torsion.Lin Chen Wei-Wei Zhan Zhou-Jun Shen Wen-Bin Rui Chen Lv Man Chen Jian-Qiao Zhou Ping Zhou Mi Zhou Ying Zhu 2009Asian Journal of Andrology2009,11,2:10
7Evolution of blood lipids and risk factors of dyslipidemia among people living with human immunodeficiency virus who had received first-line antiretroviral regimens for 3 years in Shenzhen显示文摘Background:Lipid abnormalities are prevalent among people living with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)(PLWH)and contribute to increasing risk of cardiovascular events.This study aims to investigate the incidence of dyslipidemia and its risk factors in PLWH after receiving different first-line free antiretroviral regimens.Methods:PLWH who sought care at the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen from January 2014 to December 2018 were included,and the baseline characteristics and clinical data during the follow-up were collected,including total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C).The risk factors of dyslipidemia after antiretroviral therapy were analyzed with the generalized estimating equation model.Results:Among the 7623 PLWH included,the mean levels of TC,HDL-C and LDL-C were 4.23±0.85 mmol/L,1.27±0.29 mmol/L and 2.54±0.65 mmol/L,respectively,and the median TG was 1.17(IQR:0.85-1.68)mmol/L.Compared with that in PLWH receiving tenofovir disoproxil fumarate(TDF)+lamivudine(3TC)+ritonavir-boosted lopinavir(LPV/r),zidovudine(AZT)+3TC+efavirenz(EFV),and AZT+3TC+LPV/r,the incidence of dyslipidemia was lower in PLWH receiving TDF+3TC+EFV.In multivariate analysis,we found that the risks of elevations of TG,TC,and LDL-C were higher with TDF+3TC+LPV/r(TG:odds ratio[OR]=2.82,95%confidence interval[CI]:2.55-3.11,P<0.001;TC:OR=1.24,95%CI:1.14-1.35,P<0.001;LDL:OR=1.06,95%CI:1.00-1.12,P=0.041),AZT+3TC+EFV(TG:OR=1.41,95%CI:1.28-1.55,P<0.001;TC:OR=1.43,95%CI:1.31-1.56,P<0.001;LDL:OR=1.18,95%CI:1.12-1.25,P<0.001),and AZT+3TC+LPV/r(TG:OR=3.08,95%CI:2.65-3.59,P<0.001;TC:OR=2.40,95%CI:1.96-2.94,P<0.001;LDL:OR=1.52,95%CI:1.37-1.69,P<0.001)than with TDF+3TC+EFV,while treatment with TDF+3TC+LPV/r was less likely to restore HDL-C levels compared with TDF+3TC+EFV(OR=0.95,95%CI:0.92-0.97,P<0.001).In addition to antiretroviral regimens,antiretroviral therapy duration,older age,overweight,obesity and other traditional factors were also important risk factors for dyslipidemia.Conclusion:The incidence of dyslipidemia varies with different antiretroviral regimens,with TDF+3TC+EFV having lower risk for dyslipidemia than the other first-line free antiretroviral regimens in China.Li-Qin Sun Jia-Ye Liu Yun He Yang Zhou Liu-Mei Xu Lu-Kun Zhang Fang Zhao Xiao-Ning Liu Ying Song Ting-Zhi Cao Yi-Mei Tian Man Rao Hui Wang 2020Chinese Medical Journal2020,,23:9

11Contents of four active components in different commercial crude drugs and preparations of Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza)显示文摘AIM:To detect the contents of four active components of Salvia miltiorrhiza in various commercially available danshen crude drugs and preparations.METHODS:Commercially available danshen crude drugs from different sources,as well as danshen pills and intravenous injection preparations containing danshen alone or in combination with other herbs were collected.The composition of these danshen samples was analyzed using HPLC.Specifically,the amounts of magnesium tanshinoate B(MTB),danshensu,isotanshinone IIA,and cryptotanshinone were determined.In some of these samples,the content of MTB was further confirmed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer (LC-MS)/MS method.RESULTS:There were great variations in the amount of the four active ingredients in the commercially available danshen crude drugs and drug preparations in this study.The amount of MTB was the highest among the four components measured in the crude drugs.However,the amounts of MTB in all danshen preparations were much lower than those in crude drugs.The 2 lipophilic components,isotanshinone IIA and cryptotanshinone,were very low or not detectable in both injection and oral preparations.CONCLUSION:MTB can be used to standardize the various forms of danshen crude drugs and drug preparations from different sources.In view of the variation in the amounts of MTB and other components,improvement in the production methods of danshen preparations is essential to ensure consistent amount of its active ingredients and reproducible pharmacological actions.Susan Wai Sum LEUNG Yaw Loong SIOW Ricky Ying Keung MAN 2002Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2002,23,12:6

14Non-genetic photoacoustic stimulation of single neurons by a tapered fiber optoacoustic emitter显示文摘Neuromodulation at high spatial resolution poses great significance in advancing fundamental knowledge in the field of neuroscience and offering novel clinical treatments.Here,we developed a tapered fiber optoacoustic emitter(TFOE)generating an ultrasound field with a high spatial precision of 39.6 pm,enabling optoacoustic activation of single neurons or subcellular structures,such as axons and dendrites.Temporally,a single acoustic pulse of sub-microsecond converted by the TFOE from a single laser pulse of 3 ns is shown as the shortest acoustic stimuli so far for successful neuron activation.The precise ultrasound generated by the TFOE enabled the integration of the optoacoustic stimulation with highly stable patch-clamp recording on single neurons.Direct measurements of the electrical response of single neurons to acoustic stimulation,which is difficult for conventional ultrasound stimulation,have been demonstrated.By coupling TFOE with ex vivo brain slice electrophysiology,we unveil cell-type-specific responses of excitatory and inhibitory neurons to acoustic stimulation.These results demonstrate that TFOE is a non-genetic single-cell and sub-cellular modulation technology,which could shed new insights into the mechanism of ultrasound neurostimulation.Linli Shi Ying Jiang Fernando R.Fernandez Guo Chen Lu Lan Heng-Ye Man John A.White Ji-Xin Cheng Chen Yang 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,8:4
15Overview of the Shenzhen Emergency Medical Service Call Pattern显示文摘BACKGROUND:In Shenzhen,the Emergency Medical Service(EMS) system has been in service since 1997.This study aims to examine the operation of Shenzhen 120 EMS center and to identify the reasons of calling EMS.METHODS:In this retrospective quantitative descriptive study,the data from the Shenzhen 120 EMS registry in 2011 were analyzed.RESULTS:Shenzhen 120 EMS center is a communication command center.When the number of 120 are dialed,it is forwarded to the closest appropriate hospital for ambulance dispatch.In2011,the Shenzhen 120 EMS center received 153 160 ambulance calls,with an average of 420 calls per day.Calling emergency services was mainly due to traffic accidents.Trauma and other acute diseases constituted a majority of ambulance transports.The adult patients aged 15-60 years are the principal users of EMS.There are no recognized 'paramedic' doctors and nurses.The pre-hospital emergency service is under the operation of emergency departments of hospitals.Shenzhen at present does not have specialized pre-hospital training for doctors and nurses in posttrauma management.Moreover,specialized pre-hospital training,financial support,and public health education on proper use of EMS should be emphasized.CONCLUSION:The Shenzhen 120 EMS center has its own epidemiology characteristics.Traumatic injury and traffic accident are the main reasons for calling ambulance service.In-depth study emphasizing the distribution and characteristics of trauma patients is crucial to the future development of EMS.Shuk Man Lo Yi Min Yu Lap Yip Larry Lee Mi Ling Eliza Wong Sek Ying Chair Edward J Kalinowski Tak Shing Jimmy Chan 2012World Journal of Emergency Medicine2012,3,4:4

17Could saline irrigation clear all residual common bile duct stones after lithotripsy?A self-controlled prospective cohort study显示文摘BACKGROUND A previous study showed that irrigation with 100 mL saline reduced residual common bile duct(CBD)stones,which potentially cause recurrent stones after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.AIM To determine whether saline irrigation can improve CBD clearance after lithotripsy.METHODS This prospective self-controlled study enrolled patients receiving mechanical lithotripsy for large(>1.2 cm)CBD stones.After occlusion cholangiography confirmed CBD stone clearance,peroral cholangioscopy(POC)was performed to determine clearance scores based on the number of residual stones.The amounts of residual stones spotted via POC were graded on a 5-point scale(score 1,worst;score 5,best).Scores were documented after only stone removal(control)and after irrigation with 50 mL and 100 mL saline,respectively.The stone composition was analyzed using infrared spectroscopy.RESULTS Between October 2018 and January 2020,47 patients had CBD clearance scores of 2.4±1.1 without saline irrigation,3.5±0.7 with 50 mL irrigation,and 4.6±0.6 with 100 mL irrigation(P<0.001).Multivariate analysis showed that CBD diameter>15 mm[odds ratio(OR)=0.08,95%confidence interval(CI):0.01-0.49;P=0.007]and periampullary diverticula(PAD)(OR=6.51,95%CI:1.08-39.21;P=0.041)were independent risk factors for residual stones.Bilirubin pigment stones constituted the main residual stones found in patients with PAD(P=0.004).CONCLUSION Irrigation with 100 mL of saline may not clear all residual CBD stones after lithotripsy,especially in patients with PAD and/or a dilated(>15 mm)CBD.Pigment residual stones are soft and commonly found in patients with PAD.Additional saline irrigation may be required to remove retained stones.Yan-Yan Lin Yu-Dong Wang Ping Yue Xian-Zhuo Zhang Joseph W Leung Pan-Pan Jiao Man Yang Hai-Ping Wang Bing Bai Ying Liu Jin-Duo Zhang Hong-Bo Chen Wen-Bo Meng Xun Li 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,4:4

20Ecological Offsetting in China's Coastal Wetlands: Existing Challenges and Strategies for Future Improvement显示文摘Land-use changes in coastal wetlands have led to a worldwide degradation of marine coastal ecosystems and a loss of the ecological services they provide. Ecological offsetting is a popular strategy and an effective mitigation measure for ecosystems that have been degraded, damaged, or destroyed and is critical for habitats where natural recovery is hindered. However, the current understanding of the theory and practice of ecological offsetting for coastal wetlands is extremely limited in many developing countries. We conducted a review of ecological offsetting for coastal wetlands projects and studies in China in 1979–2017 to explore the application and limitations of ecological offsetting theory. It was found that China's coastal ecological offsetting regime has recently entered a rapidly developing stage, with an increasing number of different types of offsetting projects conducted, but theoretical research lags behind practical applications. Considerable governmental, social, technological and ethical challenges remain to resolve. Coastal ecological offsetting schemes have been inconsistent in meeting conservation objectives or preventing net losses because of the challenges of ensuring they are fully consistent in practice(mainly in-kind offsets) and theory(mainly out-of-kind offsets). Ecological offsetting projects were primarily implemented by government, developers, and non-profit organizations. The available funding of coastal ecological offsetting projects is insufficient, which makes ecological offsetting a risky operation.
