| 2 | Petrology and SHRIMP zircon geochronology of granulites from Vesleknausen, Lützow-Holm Complex, East Antarctica: Neoarchean magmatism and Neoproterozoic high-grade metamorphism显示文摘We report new petrological data and geochronological measurements of granulites from Vesleknausen in the highest-grade section of the Lützow-Holm Complex, part of the Gondwana-assembling collisional orogen in East Antarctica. The locality is dominated by felsic to intermediate orthogneiss(charnockite and minor biotite gneiss), mafic orthogneiss, and hornblende-pyroxene granulite, with deformed and undeformed dykes of metagranite and felsic pegmatite. Pseudosection analysis of charnockite in the system NCKFMASHTO, supported by geothermometry of mafic orthogneiss, was used to infer peak metamorphic temperatures of 750-850 ℃, approximately 150 ℃ lower than those estimated for metasedimentary gneisses from Rundvagshetta, 6 km to the northeast. SHRIMP U-Pb analysis of zircons from feldspar-pyroxene gneiss, which corresponds to a partially molten patch around mafic orthogneiss,yielded a Concordia upper intercept ages of 2507.9 7.4 Ma, corresponding to the time of formation of the magmatic protolith to the orthogneiss. Partial melting during peak metamorphism probably took place between 591 and 548 Ma, as recorded in rims overgrew around magmatic zircon. Our results suggest that Rundvagshetta-Vesleknausen-Strandnibba region in southwestern Lützow-Holm Bay, where orthogneisses are dominant, consists of a single crustal block, possibly formed by ca. 2.5 Ga arc magmatism. | 3 | Basket pattern blood flow signals discovered in a case of splenic hamartoma by power Doppler ultrasonography显示文摘We present the gray-scale ultrasonography (GSUS), power Doppler ultrasonography (PDUS), abdominal computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings for a case of splenic hamartoma in a 27-year-old man, showing a ψ 50 mm homogeneous, iso- and hypo-echoic splenic mass with evidence of a small plural cystic lesion.This splenic hamartoma showed increased vascularity on power Doppler sonograms. PDUS showed multiple circular blood flow signals inside the mass (i.e. a basket pattern),which was consistent with the small plural cystic lesion shown by GSUS. Spectral analysis also confirmed arterial and venous flow. CT scans showed that the mass had lowdensity relative to the normal spleen and MRI showed that the mass was isodense, relative to the normal spleen.Therefore, CT and MRI are not useful for the diagnosis of splenic hamartoma. | 5 | Evaluation of small bowel blood flow in healthy subjects receiving low-dose aspirin显示文摘AIM:To investigate the relationship between low-dose aspirin-induced small bowel mucosal damage and blood flow,and the effect of rebamipide. METHODS:Ten healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study.The subjects were divided into two groups:a placebo group given low-dose aspirin plus placebo and a rebamipide group given low-dose aspirin plus rebamipide for a period of 14 d.Capsule endoscopy and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography were performed before and after administration of drugs.Areas under the curves and peak value of time-intensity curve were calculated. RESULTS:Absolute differences in areas under the curves were-1102.5(95%CI:-1980.3 to-224.7,P=0.0194) in the placebo group and-152.7(95%CI:-1604.2 to 641.6,P=0.8172) in the rebamipide group. Peak values of time intensity curves were-148.0(95% CI:-269.4 to-26.2,P=0.0225) in the placebo group and 28.3(95%CI:-269.0 to 325.6,P=0.8343) in the rebamipide group.Capsule endoscopy showed mucosal breaks only in the placebo group. | 6 | An anomaly in persistent right umbilical vein of portal vein diagnosed by ultrasonography显示文摘AIM: To detect the anomaly in the persistent right umbilical vein (PRUV) of portal vein (PV) with deviation of the ligamentum tere and left-sided gallbladder.METHODS: A total of 5783 candidates for routine analysis were evaluated for hepatic vascular abnormalities by ultrasonography.RESULTS: Ten candidates (0.17%) had a portal vein anomaly with a rightward-deviated ligamentum tere.The blood-flow velocity in the PRUV of the portal vein (17.7±3.0 cm/s) of the 10 cases was similar to that of the right anterior portal trunk (17.6±4.1 cm/s). | 8 | Antibody to eosinophil cationic protein suppresses dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in rats显示文摘AIM: To produce an antibody against rat eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) and to examine the effects of the antibody in rats with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis.METHODS: An antibody was raised against rat ECP. Rats were treated with 3% DSS in drinking water for 7 d and received the antibody or normal serum. The colons were exarmined histologically and correlated with clinical symptoms.Immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis were estimated as a grade of inflammation.RESULTS: The ECP antibody stained the activated eosinophils around the injured crypts in the colonic mucosa.Antibody treatment reduced the severity of colonic ulceration and acute clinical symptoms (diarrhea and/or blood-stained stool). Body weight gain was significantly greater and the colon length was significantly longer in anti-ECP-treated rats than in normal serum-treated rats. Expression of ECP in activated eosinophils was associated with the presence of erosions and inflammation. The number of Ki-67-positive cells in the regenerated surface epithelium increased in anti-ECP-treated rats compared with normal serum-treated rats.
