| 1 | Anti-anxiety effect of Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract via regulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis显示文摘BACKGROUND:Hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction has been closely linked to anxiety.Previous studies have shown that Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract exhibits clear anxio-lytic effects, but it is unclear about the mechanism underlying regulation of the HPA axis dysfunction in these anxiolytic effects.OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of Valeriana jatamansi Jones (Zhizhu Xiang) extract on HPA axis function in a rat model of anxiety, and to compare these effects with positive control estazolam.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING:Randomized, controlled, animal experiment was performed at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, between February and September in 2006.MATERIALS:Estazolam was purchased from Shanghai Jiufu Pharmaceutical, China; Valeriana jatamansi Jones was purchased from the Lotus Pond Market for Chinese Herbal Medicine in Chengdu.It consisted of iridoids and flavonoid components.METHODS:A total of 72 Sprague Dawley rats, aged 2 months, were randomly assigned to 6 groups:low-, medium-, and high-dose Valeriana jatamansi Jones groups intragastrically injected with 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9 g/kg per day Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract, respectively; estazolam group intragastrically injected with 1.5 mg/kg per day estazolam; model and normal groups administered 5 mL physiological saline.Anxiety was established in all groups, except the normal group, through the use of elevated plus-maze test at 7 days following drug administration.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Blood β-endorphin and corticosterone levels were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay following treatment with Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract.Expressions of HPA axis-related genes were measured by cDNA microarray.RESULTS:Blood β-endorphin and corticosterone levels were significantly greater in the model group than in the normal group.Compared with the model group, levels decreased with Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract or estazolam treatment, particularly in the low-dose Valeriana jatamansi Jones group (P<0.01).cDNA microarray results demonstrated that corticotropin-releasing hormone and Orexin, which are associated with HPA axis function, were differentially expressed; expression increased in the model group, but decreased in rats treated with Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract.CONCLUSION:Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract plays a role in regulating HPA axis function in a rat model of anxiety, and this effect was superior to estazolam. | Zhiyong Yan Tian'e Zhang Ting Xiao Lingzhen Pan Jinzhi Qin Zhanping Zhang Changying Zuo | 2010 | Neural Regeneration Research2010,5,14: | 9 |
| 2 | Barley:a potential cereal for producing healthy and functional foods显示文摘Barley is the fourth largest cereal crop in the world.It is mainly used for feeding,beer production and food.Barley is receiving more attention from both agricultural and food scientists because of its special chemical composition and health benefits.In comparison with other cereal crops,including wheat,rice and maize,barley grains are rich in dietary fiber(such asβ-glucan)and tocols,which are beneficial to human health.It is well proved that diets rich in those chemicals can provide protection against hypertension,cardiovascular disease,and diabetes.Barley has been widely recognized to have great potential as a healthy or functional food.In this review,we present information about studies on the phys-ical structure of the barley grain and the distribution of its main chemical components,nutrient and functional composition of barley grain and their health benefits,and the approaches of improving and utilizing the nutrient and functional chemicals in barley grain.With the development of processing technologies,functional components in barley grains,especiallyβ-glucan,can be efficiently extracted and concentrated.Moreover,nutrient and functional components in barley grains can be efficiently improved by precise breeding and agronomic approaches.The review high-lights the great potential of barley used as healthy and functional foods,and may be instructive for better utilization of barley in food processing. | La Geng Mengdi Li Guoping Zhan Lingzhen Ye | 2022 | Food Quality and Safety2022,6,2: | 3 |
| 3 | SCL-90 test results of the family members of patients with schizophrenia in China:a meta-analysis显示文摘Objective To evaluate the mental health status of family members of patients with schizophrenia in China.Methods Wan Fang,CNKI,VIP,CBM,Springer Link,Science Direct and Pub Med databases were searched to collect the relevant studies published prior to August 2016 that were about the psychological health status of the family members of patients with schizophrenia measured with the SCL-90 scale and Software Stata 11.0 was used for their meta-analysis.Results A total of 20 studies was included in this meta-analysis.Scores of somatization affection,obsessive-compulsive symptoms,interpersonal sensitivity,depression,anxiety,hostility,phobic anxiety,and paranoia ideation of the family members were significantly higher than those of general population norms in 2006(P<0.05).Scores of somatization affection,interpersonal sensitivity,depression,anxiety,hostility,phobic anxiety,paranoia ideation,and psychoticism of the family members were significantly higher than control group(P<0.05).Moreover,the difference was not statistically significant between male and female family members in mental health status(P>0.05).Conclusion Compared with the general population,psychological distress was more reported in the family members of patients with schizophrenia.There was no statistic significantly difference between male and female members. | LI Shiming CAO Lingzhen CHEN Jia YANG Queping | 2017 | 国际精神病学杂志2017,44,6: | 3 |
| 4 | The genome and gene editing system of sea barleygrass provide a novel platform for cereal domestication and stress tolerance studies显示文摘The tribe Triticeae provides important staple cereal crops and contains elite wild species with wide geneticdiversity and high tolerance to abiotic stresses. Sea barleygrass (Hordeum marinum Huds.), a wildTriticeae species, thrives in saline marshlands and is well known for its high tolerance to salinity and waterlogging. Here, a 3.82-Gb high-quality reference genome of sea barleygrass is assembled de novo, with 3.69Gb (96.8%) of its sequences anchored onto seven chromosomes. In total, 41 045 high-confidence (HC)genes are annotated by homology, de novo prediction, and transcriptome analysis. Phylogenetics, nonsynonymous/synonymous mutation ratios (Ka/Ks), and transcriptomic and functional analyses provide genetic evidence for the divergence in morphology and salt tolerance among sea barleygrass, barley, andwheat. The large variation in post-domestication genes (e.g. IPA1 and MOC1) may cause interspecies differences in plant morphology. The extremely high salt tolerance of sea barleygrass is mainly attributed tolow Na+ uptake and root-to-shoot translocation, which are mainly controlled by SOS1, HKT, and NHX transporters. | 8 | Improving the solidification structure of commercially pure aluminium with electropulse acting on liquid metal显示文摘The effect of electropulse on the solidification structure of commercially pure aluminium was studied. The orthogonal array L9 was used to determine the effect of three process parameters of electropulse modification (EPM), which were pulse current intensity, pulse frequency, and treating time. For each factor, three levels were chosen to cover the experimental region. According to the ex-perimental results, the solidification structure of commercially pure aluminium was modified from large grains with columnar crystals to finer grains with equiaxed crystals, by allowing the electropulse to act on liquid aluminium. However, the solidification structures could be refined differently at different EPM parameters. Certain EPM parameters should be selected to get the optimum solidification structure. Among the three parameters, pulse frequency was the most important factor influencing the solidification structure, the secondary factor was current intensity, and treating time was the third one.
