1Prevalence of subclinical hepatic encephalopathy in cirrhotic patients in China显示文摘AIM: Subclinical hepatic encephalopathy (SHE) is a common complication of liver diseases. The aim of this study was to find out the normal value of psychometric test and to investigate the prevalence of SHE in Chinese patients with stabilized hepatic cirrhosis.METHODS: Four hundred and nine consecutive cirrhotic patients without overt clinical encephalopathy were screened for SHE by using number connection test part A (NCT-A) and symbol digit test (SDT). SHE was defined as presence of at least one abnormal psychometric test. The age-corrected normal values were defined as the mean±2times standard deviation (2SD), and developed in 356 healthypersons as normal controls. Four hundred and sixteen patients with chronic viral hepatitis were tested as negative controls to assess the diagnostic validity of this test battery.RESULTS: There was no significant difference in NCT scores and SDT quotients between healthy controls and chronic hepatitis group (P>0.05). In all age subgroups,the NCT and SDT measurements of cirrhotic patients differed significantly from those of the controls (P<0.05).When mean±2SD of SDT and NCT measurements from healthy control group was set as the normal range, 119 cirrhotic patients (29.1%) were found to have abnormal NCT-A and SDT tests, 53 (13.0%) were abnormal only in SDT and 36 (8.8%) only in NCT-A. Taken together, SHE was diagnosed in 208 (50.9%) cirrhotic patients by this test battery. The prevalence of SHE increased from 39.9% and 55.2% in Child-Pugh's grade A and B groups to 71.8% in Child-Pugh's grade C group (P<0.05). After the adjustment of age and residential areas required from the tests, no correlation was found in the rate of SHE and causes of cirrhosis, education level and smoking habit.CONCLUSION: Psychometric tests are simple and reliable indicators for screening SHE among Chinese cirrhotic patients. By using a NCT and SDT battery, SHE could be found in 50.9% of cirrhotic patients without overt clinical encephalopathy. 2Antiangiogenic therapy for human pancreatic carcinoma xenografts in nude mice显示文摘AIM: To investigate the anti-tumor effects of antiangiogenic therapy (a combination of TNP-470, an antiangiogenic compound, with gemcitabine, an antimetabolite) on human pancreatic carcinoma xenografts and its mechanism.METHODS: A surgical orthotopic implantation (SOI) model was established by suturing small pieces of SW1990pancreatic carcinoma into the tail of pancreas in nude male mice. Mice then received either single therapy (n = 24) or combined therapy (n = 32). Mice receiving single therapy were randomly divided into control group, G100 group receiving 100 mg/kg gemcitabine IP on d 0, 3, 6 and 9after transplantation, and T30 group receiving 30 mg/kg TNP-470 s.c on alternate days for 8 wk. Mice receiving combined therapy were randomly divided into control group,T15 group, GS0 group and combination group (TNP-47030 mg/kg and gemcitabine 50 mg/kg). Animals were killed 8 wk after transplantation. Transplanted tumors, liver,lymph node and peritoneum were removed. Weight of transplanted tumors, the T/C rate (the rate of mean treated tumor weight to mean control tumor weight), change of body weight, metastasis rate, and 9-wk survival rate were investigated. Tumor samples were taken from the control group, T30 group, G100 group and combination group.PCNA index (PI) and microvessel density (MVD) were investigated by immunohistochemical staining for PCNA and factor Ⅷ, respectively.RESULTS: There was a significant inhibitory effect on primary tumor growth of pancreatic carcinoma in G100group, compared to T30 group, whereas tumor metastasis was significantly inhibited in T30 group compared to G100group. There was no significant improvement in survival rate in these two groups. No significant inhibitory effect on tumor growth and metastasis in T15 group and G50 group.However, significant anti-tumor and anti-metastatic effects were observed in the combination group with a significant improvement in survival rate. The inhibitory effect on tumor growth in combination group enhanced 2 times in comparison with G50 group and 5 times in comparison with T15 group. Moreover, 25% of the animals bearing tumors were cured by the combination therapy. The levels of MVD and PI were 14.50±5.93 and 0.41±0.02, 12.38±1.60and 0.30±0.07, 7.13±2.99 and 0.37±0.03, and 5.21±1.23and 0.23±0.02 respectively in the control group, G100 group,T30 group and combination group. A significant inhibitory effect on PI level and MVD level was observed in G100group and T30 group respectively whereas both MVD and PI levels were significantly inhibited in the combination group (p<0.05).CONCLUSION: Antiangiogenic therapy shows significant anti-tumor and anti-metastatic effects, and is helpful to reduce the dosage of cytotoxic drugs and the side effects.These effects are related to the antiangiogenic effect of TNP-470 and cytotoxic effect of gemcitabine.LinJia Mei-HuaZhang Shi-ZhenYuan Wen-GeHuang 2005World Journal of Gastroenterology2005,11,3:15
3Thermal physical properties and key influence factors of phase change emulsion显示文摘Latent functionally thermal fluids (LFTF) are a novel kind of heat storage and heat transfer fluids that in- clude phase change microcapsule slurry and phase change emulsion (PCE). They have much greater apparent specific heats and higher heat transfer abilities in the phase change temperature range than conventional single-phase heat transfer fluids such as water. Thus they are advantageous in the field of the convective heat transfer enhancement and energy transport. In this paper, some thermal physical prop- erties such as viscosity, fusion heat and apparent specific heat (cp) are measured, and the influences of some factors (such as selection of surfactants, preparation method, temperature, mixing ratio of surfactants and mass concentration of phase change material) on them are discussed. 4Comparison of probiotics and lactulose in the treatment of minimal hepatic encephalopathy in rats显示文摘AIM: To compare the efficacy of probiotic preparation Golden Bifid and lactulose on rat experimental model of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) induced by thioactamide (TAA).METHODS: MHE was induced by intraperitoneal injection of TAA (200 mg/kg) every 24 h for two consecutive days.Thirty-six male MHE models were then randomly divided into 3 groups: TAA group (n = 12) received tap water ad libitum only; lactulose group (n = 12) and probiotics group (n = 12) were gavaged, respectively with 8 mL/kg of lactulose and 1.5 g/kg of probiotic preparation Golden Bifid (highly concentrated combination of probiotic)dissolved in 2 mL of normal saline, once a day for 8 d (from the 5th d before the experiment to the 3rd d of the experiment). The latency of brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) I was used as an objective index of MHE. The incidence of MHE, the level of serum endotoxin,ammonia, liver function and histological grade of hepatic injury of rats were examined individually.RESULTS: There were no overt HE and rat deaths in 3groups. The incidence of MHE, the levels of blood ammonia and endotoxin in TAA group, which were 83.3% (10/12),168.33±15.44 mg/dL and 0.36±0.04 EU/mL, respectively,were significantly higher than those in lactulose group,which were 33.3% (4/12), 110.25±7.39 mg/dL and 0.19±0.02 EU/mL, and probiotics group, which were 33.3% (4/12), 108.58±10.24 mg/dL and 0.13±0.03 EU/mL respectively (P <0.001). It showed that either probiotics or lactulose could significantly lower the level of hyperammonemia and hyper-endotoxemia, lighten centrolobular necrotic areas as well as inflammatory reaction in the liver of rats, normalize the latency of BAEP,and decrease the incidence of MHE. However, no significant differences were observed between these two groups (P >0.05).CONCLUSION: Probiotic compound Golden Bifid is at least as useful as lactulose for the prevention and treatment of MHE. 6Collapse fragility assessment of steel roof framings with force limiting devices under transient wind loading显示文摘Steel structural frame is a popular structural form to cover large-span roof space and under high winds.Either part of the roof enclosure or the entire roof structure can be lifted off a building,particularly for low sloped roofs subject to wind-induced suction force.Collapse of roof could cause severe economic loss and poses safety risk to residents in the building.The buckling of members in a steel roof frame structure,which may lead to progressive collapse,may be dynamic in nature.This paper presents a fragility analysis of the collapse of steel roof frame structures under combined static and transient wind loading.Uncertainties associated with wind load change rate and member imperfections are taken into account in this study.A numerical example based on a Steel Joist Institute(SJI)K series joist was used to demonstrate the use of force limiting devices for collapse risk mitigation.For the presented fragility assessment of steel roof collapse,a Monte Carlo method combined with response surface approach was adopted,which greatly reduces the computation time and makes the Monte Carlo simulation feasible for probabilistic collapse analysis of steel roof frame structures.Linjia BAI Yunfeng ZHANG 2012Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2012,6,3:2

10Effects of sevoflurane on left ventricular function by speckletracking echocardiography in coronary bypass patients: A randomized trial显示文摘The present study aimed to dynamically observe the segmental and global myocardial movements of the left ventricle during coronary artery bypass grafting by transesophageal speckle-tracking echocardiography,and to assess the effect of sevoflurane on cardiac function.Sixty-four patients scheduled for the off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting were randomly divided into a sevoflurane-based anesthesia(AS)group and a propofolbased total intravenous anesthesia(AA)group.The AS group demonstrated a higher absolute value of left ventricular global longitudinal strain than that of the AA group at both T1(after harvesting all grafts and before coronary anastomosis)and T_(2)(30 min after completing all coronary anastomoses)(P<0.05).Moreover,strain improvement in the segment with the highest preoperative strain was significantly reduced in the AS group,compared with the AA group at both T1 and T_(2)(P<0.01).The flow of the left internal mammary artery-left anterior descending artery graft was superior,and the postoperative concentration of troponin T decreased rapidly in the AS group,compared with the AA group(P<0.05).Compared with total intravenous anesthesia,sevoflurane resulted in a significantly higher global longitudinal strain,stroke volume,and cardiac output.Sevoflurane also led to an amelioration in the condition of the arterial graft.Furthermore,sevoflurane significantly reduced strain improvement in the segmental myocardium with a high preoperative strain value.The findings need to be replicated in larger studies.Chanjuan Gong Xiaokai Zhou Yin Fang Yanjuan Zhang Linjia Zhu Zhengnian Ding 2024The Journal of Biomedical Research2024,38,1:0
11SERS monitoring of photoinduced-enhanced oxidative stress amplifier on Au@carbon dots for tumor catalytic therapy显示文摘Currently,artificial enzymes-based photodynamic therapy(PDT)is attractive due to its efficient capacity to change the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment(TME).It is of great significance to study the therapeutic mechanism of novel artificial enzymes in TME through a monitoring strategy and improve the therapeutic effect.In this study,Au@carbon dots(Au@CDs)nanohybrids with a core-shell structure are synthesized,which not only exhibit tunable enzyme-mimicking activity under near-infrared(NIR)light,but also excellent surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)properties.Therefore,Au@CDs show a good capability for monitoring NIR-photoinduced peroxidase-like catalytic processes via a SERS strategy in tumor.Moreover,the Au@CDs deplete glutathione with the cascade catalyzed reactions,thus elevating intratumor oxidative stress amplifying the reactive oxygen species damage based on the NIR-photoinduced enhanced peroxidase and glutathione oxidase-like activities,showing excellent and fast PDT therapeutic effect promoted by photothermal property in 3 min,finally leading to apoptosis in cancer cells.Through SERS monitoring,it is further found that after removing the NIR light source for 33 min,the reactive oxygen species(ROS)activity of the TME is counteracted and eliminated due to the presence of glutathione.This work presents a guidance to rationally design of artificial enzyme for ROS-involved therapeutic strategies and a new spectroscopic tool to evaluate the tumor catalytic therapy.Linjia Li Jin Yang Jiahui Wei Chunhuan Jiang Zhuo Liu Bai Yang Bing Zhao Wei Song 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,10:0
12Subsoil tillage enhances wheat productivity,soil organic carbon and available nutrient status in dryland fields显示文摘Tillage practices during the fallow period benefit water storage and yield in dryland wheat crops.However,there is currently no clarity on the responses of soil organic carbon(SOC),total nitrogen(TN),and available nutrients to tillage practices within the growing season.This study evaluated the effects of three tillage practices(NT,no tillage;SS,subsoil tillage;DT,deep tillage)over five years on soil physicochemical properties.Soil samples at harvest stage from the fifth year were analyzed to determine the soil aggregate and aggregate-associated C and N fractions.The results indicated that SS and DT improved grain yield,straw biomass and straw carbon return of wheat compared with NT.In contrast to DT and NT,SS favored SOC and TN concentrations and stocks by increasing the soil organic carbon sequestration rate(SOCSR)and soil nitrogen sequestration rate(TNSR)in the 0-40 cm layer.Higher SOC levels under SS and NT were associated with greater aggregate-associated C fractions,while TN was positively associated with soluble organic nitrogen(SON).Compared with DT,the NT and SS treatments improved soil available nutrients in the 0-20 cm layer.These findings suggest that SS is an excellent practice for increasing soil carbon,nitrogen and nutrient availability in dryland wheat fields in North China.Qiuyan Yan Linjia Wu Fei Dong Shuangdui Yan Feng Li Yaqin Jia Jiancheng Zhang Ruifu Zhang Xiao Huang 2024Journal of Integrative Agriculture2024,23,1:0
13Response of plant,litter,and soil C:N:P stoichiometry to growth stages in Quercus secondary forests on the Loess Plateau,China显示文摘Ecological stoichiometry is an important indicator of biogeochemical cycles and nutrient limitations in terrestrial ecosystems.However,little is known about the response of ecological stoichiometry to plant growth.In this study,carbon(C),nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P)concentrations were evaluated in plant tissues(trees,shrubs,and herbs),litter,and soil of young(≤40-year-old),middle-aged(41–60-year-old),near-mature(61–80-year-old),and mature(81–120-year-old)Quercus secondary forests on the Loess Plateau,China.Vegetation composition,plant biomass,and C stock were determined to illustrate their interaction with stoichiometry.Only tree biomass C signifi cantly increased with stand development.Leaf N and trunk P concentrationsgenerally increased,but branch P decreased with growth stage.Fine roots had the highest C and P concentrations at the middle-aged stage.In contrast,shrubs,herbs,litter,and soil C:N:P stoichiometry did not change signifi cantly during stand development.Leaf N and P were positively correlated with soil C,N,P,and their ratios.However,there was no signifi cant correlation between litter and leaves in terms of C:N:P stoichiometry.A redundancy analysis showed that soil N best explained leaf N and P variance,and tree biomass and C stock were related to biotic factors such as tree age and shrub biomass.Hierarchical partitioning analysis indicated that,compared with soil or litter variables,stand age only accounted for a relatively small proportion of leaf C,N,and P variation.Thus,secondary Quercus ecosystems might have inherent ability to maintain sensitive responses of metabolically active organs to environmental factors during stand aging.The results of this work help to elucidate the biogeochemical cycling of secondary forest ecosystems in tree development,provide novel insights into the adaptation strategies of plants in diff erent organs and growth stages,and could be used to guide fertilization programs and optimize forest structure.Juanjuan Zhang Xinyang Li Meng Chen Linjia Huang Ming Li Xu Zhang Yang Cao 2023Journal of Forestry Research2023,34,3:0
14Dynamic alterations of amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations in patients with chronic neck pain显示文摘Background:The pathogenesis of neck pain in the brain,which is the fourth most common cause of disability,remains unclear.Furthermore,little is known about the characteristics of dynamic local functional brain activity in cervical pain.Objective:The present study aimed to investigate the changes of local brain activity caused by chronic neck pain and the factors leading to neck pain.Methods:Using the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations(ALFF)method combined with sliding window approach,we compared local brain activity that was measured by the functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI)of 107 patients with chronic neck pain(CNP)with that of 57 healthy control participants.Five pathogenic factors were selected for correlation analysis.Results:The group comparison results of dynamic amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation(dALFF)variability showed that patients with CNP exhibited decreased dALFF variability in the left inferior temporal gyrus,the middle temporal gyrus,the angular gyrus,the inferior parietal marginal angular gyrus,and the middle occipital gyrus.The abnormal dALFF variability of the left inferior temporal gyrus was negatively correlated with the average daily working hours of patients with neck pain.Conclusions:The findings indicated that the brain regions of patients with CNP responsible for audition,vision,memory,and emotion were subjected to temporal variability of abnormal regional brain activity.Moreover,the dALFF variability in the left inferior temporal gyrus might be a risk factor for neck pain.This study revealed the brain dysfunction of patients with CNP from the perspective of dynamic local brain activity,and highlighted the important role of dALFF variability in understanding the neural mechanism of CNP.Jiabao Zhang Tao Xu Linjia Wang Dan Chen Lisha Gong Huafu Chen Jiali Yu Ling Zhao Qing Gao 2021Psychoradiology2021,1,3:0
