| 1 | Dietary resveratrol improves antioxidant status of sows and piglets and regulates antioxidant gene expression in placenta by Keap1-Nrf2 pathway and Sirt1显示文摘Background: Resveratrol, a plant phenol, affords protection against inflammation and oxidative stress. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary resveratrol supplementation during pregnancy and lactation on the antioxidant status of sows and piglets and on antioxidant gene expression and pathway in placenta.Methods: Forty sows were allotted to 2 dietary treatments 20 d after breeding. Sows were fed a control diet and a control diet with 300 mg/kg resveratrol. Oxidative stress biomarkers and antioxidant enzymes were measured in the placenta, milk, and plasma of sows and piglets. Antioxidant gene expression and protein expression of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1-Nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Keap1-Nrf2), nuclear factor kappa B-p65(NFκB-p65) and sirtuin1(Sirt1) were quantified in the placenta.Results: Dietary resveratrol increased the litter and piglets weaning weights. Antioxidant status in the milk, placenta and plasma of sows and piglets was partially improved by dietary resveratrol. In placenta, Nrf2 protein expression was increased and Keap1 protein expression was decreased by dietary resveratrol. The m RNA expression of antioxidant genes including catalase(CAT), glutathione peroxidase 1(GPX1), GPX4, superoxide dismutase 1(SOD1)and heme oxygenase 1(HO1), and phase 2 detoxification genes, including glutamate-cysteine ligase modifier(GCLM), microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1(MGST1) and UDP glucuronosyltransferase family 1 member A1(UGT1 A1), was increased by dietary resveratrol. Dietary resveratrol also increased Sirt1 and phosphorylated NFκB-p65 protein expression in the placenta. We failed to observe any influences of dietary resveratrol on pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, including those of interleukin 1β(IL-1β), IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α). However, we observed that the m RNA expression of IL-8 in placenta was reduced by maternal resveratrol. In addition, dietary resveratrol showed interactive effects with day of lactation on activities of SOD and CAT and levels of malonaldehyde(MDA) and hydrogen peroxide(H2 O2) in milk.Conclusions: Dietary resveratrol supplementation during pregnancy and lactation improves the antioxidant status of sows and piglets, which is beneficial to the reproductive performance of sows. | 2 | Effect of dietary supplementation with protease on growth performance,nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology, digestive enzymes and gene expression of weaned piglets显示文摘This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary protease supplementation on the growth performance, nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology, digestive enzymes and gene expression in weaned piglets. A total of 300 weaned piglets(21 days of age Duroc x Large White x Landrace; initial BW = 6.27 ± 0.45 kg) were randomly divided into 5 groups. The 5 diets were: 1) positive control diet(PC), 2) negative control diet(NC), and 3) protease supplementations, which were 100, 200, and 300 mg per kg NC diet. Results indicated that final BW, ADG, ADFI, crude protein digestibility, enzyme activities of stomach pepsin, pancreatic amylase and trypsin, plasma total protein, and intestinal villus height were higher for the PC diet and the supplementations of 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet than for the NC diet(P < 0.05). Supplementations of 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet significantly increased the ratio of villus height to crypt depth(VH:CD) of duodenum, jejunum and ileum compared with NC diet(P < 0.05). Feed to gain ratio, diarrhea index, blood urea nitrogen, and diamine oxidase were lower for the PC diet and supplementations of 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet than for the NC diet(P < 0.05). Piglets fed the PC diet had a higher peptide transporter 1(PepTl) mRNA abundance in duodenum than piglets fed the NC diet(P < 0.05), and supplementations of 100, 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet increased the PepTl mRNA abundance in duodenum(P < 0.05) comparing with the NC diet. Piglets fed the PC diet had a higher b0,+AT mRNA abundance in jejunum than piglets fed the NC diet(P < 0.05), and supplementations of 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet increased the b0,+AT mRNA abundance in jejunum and ileum comparing with the NC diet(P < 0.05). | 3 | Optimization of slightly acidic electrolyzed water spray for airborne culturable bacteria reduction in animal housing显示文摘Slightly acidic electrolyzed water(SAEW)spray has been considered as a novel approach for airborne bacteria reduction in animal housing.This study aimed to optimize the operating parameters of SAEW spray based on the size distribution of sprayed aerosols,the available chlorine travelling loss in sprayed aerosols,and the reduction efficiency of airborne culturable bacteria(CB).The optimized operating parameters were the nozzle orifice diameter and the spray pressure.The size distribution characteristics of sprayed SAEW aerosols under different operating parameters were quantified.The pH and available chlorine concentrations of the original SAEW solution and the SAEW aerosols collected at 0 m,0.25 m,0.50 m,0.75 m,and 1.00 m from the spray nozzle head were analyzed.A bioaerosol nebulizing generator was used to simulate animal housing environment in an environmentally-controlled chamber.Six SAEW spray trials under different operating parameters were conducted at a spray dosage of 80 mL/m2 in the chamber.Airborne CB concentrations before and after spray were measured to investigate the reduction efficiency of airborne CB.Dv(50),the volume-based diameter below which 50%of the particle being present,increased with the nozzle orifice diameter and decreased with the spray pressure.The travelling loss of available chlorine in the sprayed SAEW aerosols was greatly dependent on Dv(50).SAEW spray with medium size sprayed aerosols(Dv(50)=86.62μm,67.94μm,and 54.53μm)showed significantly higher airborne CB reduction efficiencies than large(Dv(50)=121.80μm and 96.00μm)or small size aerosols(Dv(50)=42.57μm).The spray operating parameters that provide medium size sprayed aerosols(Dv(50)~60-90μm)are recommended for SAEW spray in animal housing. | Zheng Weichao Ni Li Hui Xue Li Baoming Zhang Jiafa | 2016 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2016,9,4: | 7 |
| 4 | Electrolyzed water and its application in animal houses显示文摘Electrolyzed water(EW) can be produced by electrolysis of a dilute salt solution. Slightly acidic electrolyzed water(SAEW, p H 5.0–6.5) and neutral electrolyzed water(NEW, p H 6.5–8.5) are considered healthy and environmentally friendly because no hazardous chemicals are added in its production, there is reduced corrosion of surfaces and it minimizes the potential for damage to animal and human health. Over the last decade, EW has become increasingly popular as an alternative disinfectant for decontamination in animal houses. However, there have been some issues related to EW that are not well known, including different mechanisms for generation of SAEW and NEW, and the antimicrobial mechanism of EW. | 7 | Effect of cooling pad installation on indoor airflow distribution in a tunnel-ventilated laying-hen house显示文摘Extra cooling pads on the sidewalls are needed for larger poultry houses using tunnel ventilation system.Preliminary study showed that the airflow velocity going through different aisles varies greatly when the extra pads are installed at the end of sidewalls,making a“[”-shape air inlet.Combined with field tests,the CFD(computational fluid dynamics)technology was used to study the uniformity of airflow distribution in a tunnel-ventilated laying-hen house.The air distribution was first monitored in a layer house to find the main reason resulting in the variations of airflows in different aisles.Then CFD simulations were carried out with different distances(D=2 m,3 m or 4 m)between the pads on end-wall and the extra pads on side walls.The field test showed that airflow streams from the different groups of cooling pads collided vertically at the house corners,mixed with each other,then flew towards the center of the house.This was the main reason that the wind speed in the middle aisle was much higher than in other aisles,leaving large zones of lower ventilation in the aisles adjacent to the sidewalls.The results of CFD simulations indicated that air distributions could be significantly improved when the extra pieces of pads were moved away for an appropriate distance from the end coolingpads.As far as conventional poultry house with a span of 12 m,the air speeds in different aisles were more uniform when this distance was about 3 m. | Hui Xue Zhu Qiang Ji-Qin Ni Li Baoming Shi Zhengxiang Zhao Shumei Wang Yu | 2016 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2016,9,4: | 4 |

| 10 | Hydroxycalciopyrochlore, A New Mineral Species from Sichuan, China显示文摘Hydroxycalciopyrochlore, ideally(Ca,Na,U,□)2(Nb,Ti)2O6(OH), cubic, is a new mineral species(IMA2011-026) within the pyrochlore supergroup that was found occurring at the Maoniuping mine, Mianning County, Xichang prefecture, Sichuan Province, southwest China. The mineral is found in an alkali feldspar granite rare-earth ore deposit(26–27 Ma). Associated minerals include calcite, barite, celestine, albite, aegirine, aegirine-augite, fluorite, parasite-(Ce), thorite, thorianite, zircon, galena, sphalerite, magnetite, and pyrite. Crystals occur mostly as octahedra, and less often as dodecahedra and tetrahexahedra or combinations thereof. Some occur with an allotriomorphic habit with a thick triangular tabular form. Crystals generally range from 0.1 to 1 mm in size. The mineral is brownishblack, greenish-black and black on fresh sections with a brown streak. The crystal is translucent, and has a greasy lustre on fresh sections. It is metamict without any observed parting or cleavage and with a conchoidal fracture. The Vickers microhardness is 572 kg/mm2(5–6 on the Mohs hardness scale). The density measured by hydrostatic weighing is 5.10(3) g/cm3. The strongest four reflections in the X-ray powder-diffraction pattern [d in(I) hkl] are: 2.9657(100) 2 2 2, 1.8142(34) 0 4 4, 1.5463(21) 2 2 6, 2.5688(18) 0 0 4. The unit-cell parameters are a = 10.381(4), V = 1118.7(7)3, Z = 8. The structure was solved and refined in the space group Fd3m with R = 0.09. The empirical formula is(Ca0.74Na0.58U0.40Ce0.05Fe0.02□0.21)2.00(Nb1.15Ti0.80Ta0.03Al0.01Mg0.01)2.00O6.02 [(OH)1.01F0.09]1.10, on the basis of 2 atoms of B pfu; the simplified formula is(Ca,Na,U,□)2(Nb,Ti)2O6(OH). | 11 | Experimental Research on the Mechanism of Lift Amplification and Vibration Suppression of Lorentz Force显示文摘The Lorentz force generated by electromagnetic field on the surface of the cylinder in the electrolyte solution may modify the structure of the flow boundary layer effectively. The transient control process of Lorentz force is investigated experimentally for lift amplification and vibration suppression. The experiments are conducted in a rotating annular tank filled with a low-conducting electrolyte. A cylinder with an electro-magnetic actuator is placed into the electrolyte. The lift force of cylinder is measured using the strain gages attached to a fixed beam, and the flow fields are visualized by the dye markers. The results show that the upper vortex on the cylinder is suppressed, and the wake becomes a line and leans to the lower side under the action of upside Lorentz force while the lower vortex on the cylinder is suppressed and limited in a small region. Therefore, the value of lift increases with the variation of flow field. | 13 | An optimized solar-air degree-day method to evaluate energy demand for poultry buildings in different climate zones显示文摘The degree-day method is widely used to determine energy consumption but cannot be directly applied to poultry buildings without improvements in its accuracy.This study was designed to optimize the degreeday calculation and proposes a solar-air degree-day method,which can be used to calculate the cooling and heating degree-days and the annual cooling and heating loads under different climate conditions for poultry buildings.In this paper,the solar-air degree-day method was proposed,which considers the effects of solar radiation with different wall orientations and surface colors.Five Chinese cities,Harbin,Beijing,Chongqing,Kunming and Guangzhou,were selected to represent different climate zones to determine the solar-air degreedays.The heating and cooling energy requirements for different climates were compared by DeST(Designer’s Simulation Toolkit)simulation and the solar-air degreeday method.Approaches to decrease energy consumption were developed.The results showed that the maximum relative error was less than 10%,and the new method was not significantly different from the DeST simulation(P>0.05).The accuracy of calculating energy requirements was improved by the solar-air degree-day method in the different climate zones.Orientation and surface color effects on energy consumption need to be considered,and external walls of different orientations should have different surface colors. | Yang WANG Baoming LI | 2020 | Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering2020,7,4: | 2 |
| 14 | Improving utilization of nests and decreasing mislaid eggs with narrow width of group nests显示文摘Provision of nest boxes is necessary for laying hens,especially in non-cage systems.This study investigated the effects of nest width on nest utilization and mislaid eggs.Hy-Line Browns hens were transferred from conventional cages to perchery pens at 12 weeks of age.Two experiments were conducted to mutually verify the hypothesis that narrowing group nests would improve nest utilization and reduce mislaid eggs.In experiment 1,group nests of 150 cm wide in two pens were partitioned at intervals of 50 cm and 37 cm,respectively.In experiment 2,partition panels were removed after acclimation.The number of mislaid eggs and nest eggs in each pre-set section were compared.Results indicated that narrowing group nests had positive effects on improving usage uniformity and efficiency of group nests.Nest eggs were more evenly distributed on the egg belt in both narrowed group nests,which was indicated by the significant decrease of variance among different sections(p<0.001).The proportion of mislaid eggs decreased by 3.5%in 37 cm treatment(p<0.05)and 4.7% in 50 cm treatment(p<0.001),respectively.As expected,reuse of the 150 cm group nests after removal of partition panels lowered the usage uniformity of group nests.A growth of three percentage points was found for the proportion of mislaid eggs after removing the partition panels in 50 cm treatment.The present results indicated that it is the width of the nest box that works for a better use of group nests.In conclusion,adding partition panels at intervals of 50 cm and 37 cm in group nests both are effective on nest usage and decreasing the occurrence of mislaid eggs. | Hongya Zheng Baoming Li Gang Chen Chaoyuan Wang | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,1: | 2 |
| 15 | Effects of water-cooled cover on physiological and production parameters of farrowing sows under hot and humid climates显示文摘The hot and humid climates,as encountered in the southern region of China with the open housing,can adversely impact the sows undergoing heat stress during the most vulnerable period at lactation.Hence,a water-cooled cover system(WCCs)for local cooling has essential practical value to improve productivity.The WCCs was developed for the sow crate of lactating sows separately,which performance was validated with the cooling efficiency in the sow occupied zone(SOZ)and physiological parameters.The results showed that the WCCs for the farrowing sows using aluminium plastic tubes connected in series could reach an appropriate cooling performance in adjacent units.The WCCs could decrease the SOZ air temperature by 3.0-4.5℃under the extremely hot climate when the indoor air temperature was 37℃,and maintain a suitable range(25-30℃)under the typical hot climate(<35℃).The respiration rate and skin temperature of farrowing sows had no significant difference between treatment group(WCC)and control group(sprinkle cooling)when the air temperature was below 30℃,but had a significant difference(p<0.05)when air temperature rose above 30℃.The control sows drank more during hot weather,and the feed intake was significantly lower than the sows with the WCCs(p<0.01).It was concluded that the WCCs could alleviate the heat stress of farrowing sows during typical hot climate. | Pang Zhenzhen Li Baoming Zheng Weichao Lin Baozhong Liu Zuohua | 2016 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2016,9,4: | 2 |

| 18 | Heat stress alleviation for dairy cows housed in an open-sided barn by cooling fan and perforated air ducting(PAD)system显示文摘Curtain-sided barns with circulation fans above stall are commonly used to house dairy cows in China.Many farms equipped with circulation fans are unable to provide appropriate cooling,especially for the naturally ventilated shed,which can result in decreasing feed intake and milk production.For alleviating heat stress and improving animal comfort,a system consisting of an air cooler and a 30 m perforated air duct(PAD)was integrated to evenly distribute cooling air.The air was cooled by underground water and delivered to targeted zones above stall bed.The system was evaluated in an open sided dairy barn in Tianjin,China.For the stalls equipped with PAD system,air velocity reached above 1.1 m/s at 0.5 m height plane of the stall space,and was more uniformly distributed.Compared to the stalls equipped with circulation fans,the PAD system lowered air temperature by 1.5℃,and increased relative humidity by 8.1%.On average,Temperature Humidity Index(THI)and Equivalent Temperature Index(ETI)were decreased by 0.5 and 0.6,respectively.After a 15 days’operation of the system,rectal temperatures of the treated dairy cows were significantly lowered.The results also showed that the cows under PADs had a higher milk production.These findings suggest the PAD can be an effective cooling alternative for naturally ventilated dairy barns to alleviate heat stress. | Xie Lina Wang Chaoyuan Ding Luyu Gui Zhiyuan Zhang Lu Shi Zhengxiang Li Baoming Jia Chuntao | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,6: | 2 |
| 19 | Inactivation efficiency of slightly acidic electrolyzed water against microbes on facility surfaces in a disinfection channel显示文摘Slightly acidic electrolyzed water(SAEW,pH 6.0-6.5)is an ideal and environmentally-friendly disinfectant,which was used to prevent and control bacterial infections on farms.This work aims to investigate the inactivation effectiveness of SAEW in inactivating microbes in a disinfection channel.The bactericidal efficiency of SAEW on equipment surfaces was compared to two commercial disinfectants,Kuei A bromide solution(KAS,5:1000 v/v)and Glutaraldehyde solution(GS,5:1000 v/v).The disinfection effectiveness of SAEW in inactivating Salmonella enteritidis(S.enteritidis)on equipment surfaces in the disinfection channel was evaluated,and a model was developed using multiple linear regression analysis.Results indicated that SAEW was significantly(p<0.05)more efficient than KAS and GS on kits and clothing in the disinfection channel at 1 min.The SAEW did not contribute as aggressively to respiratory difficulty as KAS and GS.Maximum reductions of 2.362 log10 CFU/cm^(2),2.613 log10 CFU/cm^(2) and 2.359 log10 CFU/cm^(2) for Salmonella enteritidis were obtained from clothing surfaces,iron materials,and kits treated with SAEW for 2.5 min at a chlorine concentration of 220 mg/L.Moreover,the established model had a good fit-quantified by the determination coefficient R^(2)(0.939)and a lack of fit test(p>0.05).In addition,available chlorine concentration(ACC)was an important factor than other factors,and the inactivation efficiency of Salmonella enteritidis sprayed by SAEW treatment was different between iron materials,kits and clothing surfaces(iron>kit>clothing). | Zang Yitian Li Baoming Shi Zhengxiang Sheng Xiaowei Wu Hongxiang Shu Dengqun | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,6: | 2 |
