| 1 | Mucosal healing progression after acute colitis in mice显示文摘BACKGROUND Mucosal healing has become a therapeutic goal to achieve stable remission in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. To achieve this objective, overlapping actions of complex cellular processes, such as migration, proliferation, and differentiation, are required. These events are longitudinally and tightly controlled by numerous factors including a wide range of distinct regulatory proteins. However, the sequence of events associated with colon mucosal repair after colitis and the evolution of the luminal content characteristics during this process have been little studied.AIM To document the evolution of colon mucosal characteristics during mucosal healing using a mouse model with chemically-induced colitis.METHODS C57 BL/6 male mice were given 3.5% dextran sodium sulfate(DSS) in drinking water for 5 d. They were euthanized 2(day 7), 5(day 10), 8(day 13), and 23(day28) d after DSS removal. The colonic luminal environment and epithelial repair processes during the inflammatory flare and colitis resolution were analyzed with reference to a non-DSS treated control group, euthanized at day 0. Epithelial repair events were assessed histo-morphologically in combination with functional permeability tests, expression of key inflammatory and repairing factors, and evaluation of colon mucosa-adherent microbiota composition by 16 S rRNA sequencing.RESULTS The maximal intensity of colitis was concomitant with maximal alterations of intestinal barrier function and histological damage associated with goblet cell depletion in colon mucosa. It was recorded 2 d after termination of the DSStreatment, followed by a progressive return to values similar to those of control mice. Although signs of colitis were severe(inflammatory cell infiltrate, crypt disarray, increased permeability) and associated with colonic luminal alterations(hyperosmolarity, dysbiosis, decrease in short-chain fatty acid content), epithelial healing processes were launched early during the inflammatory flare with increased gene expression of certain key epithelial repair modulators, including transforming growth factor-β, interleukin(Il)-15, Il-22, Il-33, and serum amyloid A. | 2 | Trends in incidence and management of cancer of the ampulla of Vater显示文摘AIM:To provide trends in incidence,management and survival of cancer of the ampulla of Vater in a welldefined French population.METHODS:Data were obtained from the populationbased digestive cancer registry of Burgundy over a34-year period.Age-standardized incidence rates were computed using the world standard population.Average annual variations in incidence rates were estimated using a poisson regression.A univariate and multivariate relative survival analysis was performed.RESULTS:Age-standardized incidence rates were0.46 and 0.30 per 100000 inhabitants for men and women,respectively.Incidence rate increased from0.26(1976-1984)to 0.58(2003-2009)for men and remained stable for women.Resection for cure was performed in 48.3%of cases.This proportion was stable over the study period.Among cases with curative resection,pancreatico-duodenectomy was performed in94.0%of cases and ampullectomy in 6.0%of cases.A total of 50.8%of cancers of the ampulla of Vater were diagnosed at an advanced stage.Their proportion remained stable throughout the study period.The overall1-and 5-year relative survival rates were 60.2%and27.7%,respectively.Relative survival did not vary over time.Treatment and stage at diagnosis were the most important determinants of survival.The 5-year relative survival rate was 41.5%after resection for cure,9.5%after palliative surgery and 6.7%after symptomatic treatment.In multivariate analysis,only stage at diagnosis significantly influenced the risk of death.CONCLUSION:Cancer of the ampulla of Vater is still uncommon,but its incidence increased for men in Burgundy.Diagnosis is often made at an advanced stage,dramatically worsening the prognosis. | Florian Rostain Samia Hamza Antoine Drouillard Jean Faivre Anne-Marie Bouvier C?me Lepage | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，29： | 5 |

| 4 | Widely tunable 2.3μm III-V-on-silicon Vernier lasers for broadband spectroscopic sensing显示文摘Heterogeneously integrating III-V materials on silicon photonic integrated circuits has emerged as a promising approach to make advanced laser sources for optical communication and sensing applications. Tunable semiconductor lasers operating in the 2–2.5 μm range are of great interest for industrial and medical applications since many gases(e.g., CO_2, CO, CH_4) and biomolecules(such as blood glucose) have strong absorption features in this wavelength region. The development of integrated tunable laser sources in this wavelength range enables low-cost and miniature spectroscopic sensors. Here we report heterogeneously integrated widely tunable III-V-on-silicon Vernier lasers using two silicon microring resonators as the wavelength tuning components. The laser has a wavelength tuning range of more than 40 nm near 2.35 μm. By combining two lasers with different distributed Bragg reflectors, a tuning range of more than 70 nm is achieved. Over the whole tuning range, the side-mode suppression ratio is higher than 35 dB. As a proof-of-principle, this III-V-on-silicon Vernier laser is used to measure the absorption lines of CO.
