Use of shear wave elastography for the diagnosis and follow-up of biliary atresia: A meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Timely differentiation of biliary atresia(BA)from other infantile cholestatic diseases can impact patient outcomes.Additionally,non-invasive staging of fibrosis after Kasai hepatoportoenterostomy has not been widely standardized.Shear wave elastography is an ultrasound modality that detects changes in tissue stiffness. The authors propose that the utility of elastography in BA can be elucidated through meta-analysis of existing studies.AIM To assess the utility of elastography in:(1)BA diagnosis,and(2)post-Kasai fibrosis surveillance.METHODS A literature search identified articles that evaluated elastography for BA diagnosis and for post-Kasai follow-up.Twenty studies met criteria for meta-analysis:Eleven for diagnosis and nine for follow-up post-Kasai.Estimated diagnostic odds ratio(DOR),sensitivity, and specificity of elastography were calculated through a random-effects model using Meta-DiSc software.RESULTS Mean liver stiffness in BA infants at diagnosis was significantly higher than in non-BA,with overall DOR 24.61,sensitivity 83%,and specificity 79%.Post-Kasai,mean liver stiffness was significantly higher in BA patients with varices than in patients without, with DOR 16.36,sensitivity 85%,and specificity 76%.Elastography differentiated stage F4 fibrosis from F0-F3 with DOR of 70.03,sensitivity 96%,and specificity 89%.Elastography also differentiated F3-F4 fibrosis from F0-F2 with DOR of 24.68,sensitivity 85%,and specificity 81%.CONCLUSION Elastography has potential as a non-invasive modality for BA diagnosis and surveillance post-Kasai.This paper’s limitations include inter-study method heterogeneity and small sample sizes.Future,standardized,multi-center studies are recommended. | Ellen S Wagner Hussien Ahmed H Abdelgawad Meghan Landry Belal Asfour Mark B Slidell Ruba Azzam | 2022 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,32: | 5
SFRP4 expression correlates with epithelial mesenchymal transitionlinked genes and poor overall survival in colon cancer patients显示文摘BACKGROUND Colon cancer is among the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the United States with an estimated 97220 new cases expected by the end of 2018.It affects 1.2 million people around the world and is responsible for about 0.6 million deaths every year.Despite decline in overall incidence and mortality over the past 30 years, there continues to be an alarming rise in early-onset colon cancer cases(<50 years).Patients are often diagnosed at late stages of the disease and tend to have poor survival. We previously showed that the WNT“gatekeeper”gene, secreted frizzled-related protein 4(SFRP4),is over-expressed in early-onset colon cancer.SFRP4 is speculated to play an essential role in cancer by inhibiting the epithelial mesenchymal transition(EMT).AIM To investigate the correlation between SFRP4 expression and EMT-linked genes in colon cancer and how it affects patient survival.METHODS SFRP4 expression relative to that of EMT-linked genes and survival analysis were performed using the University of California Santa Cruz Cancer Browser interface.RESULTS SFRP4 was found to be co-expressed with the EMT-linked markers CDH2,FN1,VIM,TWIST1,TWIST2,SNAI1,SNAI2,ZEB1,ZEB2,POSTN,MMP2,MMP7,MMP9,and COL1A1.SFRP4 expression negatively correlated with the EMTlinked suppressors CLDN4,CLDN7,TJP3,MUC1,and CDH1.The expression of SFRP4 and the EMT-linked markers was higher in mesenchymal-like samples compared to epithelial-like samples which potentially implicates SFRP4-EMT mechanism in colon cancer.Additionally, patients overexpressing SFRP4 presented with poor overall survival(P=0.0293).CONCLUSION Considering the implication of SFRP4 in early-onset colon cancer, particularly in the context of EMT,tumor metastasis, and invasion, and the effect of increased expression on colon cancer patient survival,SFRP4 might be a potential biomarker for early-onset colon cancer that could be targeted for diagnosis and/or disease therapy. | Landry E Nfonsam Jana Jandova Hunter C Jecius Pamela N Omesiete Valentine N Nfonsam | 2019 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2019,11,8: | 4

Geochemical constraints on the origin and tectonic setting of the serpentinized peridotites from the Paleoproterozoic Nyong series,Eseka area,SW Cameroon显示文摘Serpentinized rocks closely associated with Paleoproterozoic eclogitic metabasites were recently discovered at Eseka area in the northwestern edge of the Congo craton in southern Cameroon. Here,we present new field data, petrography, and first comprehensible wholerock geochemistry data and discuss the protolith and tectonic significance of these serpentinites in the region. The studied rock samples are characterized by pseudomorphic textures, including mesh microstructure formed by serpentine intergrowths with cores of olivine, bastites after pyroxene.Antigorite constitutes almost the whole bulk of the rocks and is associated(to the less amount)with tremolite, talc, spinel, and magnetite.Whole-rock chemistry of the Eseka serpentinites led to the distinction of two types.Type 1 has high MgO(>40 wt%)content and high Mg#values(88.80)whereas Type 2 serpentinite samples display relatively low MgO concentration and Mg#values(<40 and 82.88 wt%,respectively). Both types have low Al/Si and high Mg/Si ratios than the primitive mantle, reflecting a refractory abyssal mantle peridotite protolith.Partial melting modeling indicates that these rocks were derived from melting of spinel peridotite before serpentinization.Bulk rock high-Ti content is similar to the values of subducted serpentinites(>50 ppm). This similarity, associated with the high Cr contents,spinel-peridotite protolith compositions and Mg/Si and Al/Si ratios imply that the studied serpentinites were formed in a subductionrelated environment. The U-shaped chondrite normalizedREE patterns of serpentinized peridotites, coupled with similar enrichments in LREE and HFSE,suggest the refertilized nature due to melt/rock interaction prior to serpentinization.Based on the results,we suggest that the Eseka serpentinized peridotites are mantle residues that suffered a high degree of partial melting in a subductionrelated environment, especially in Supra Subduction Zone setting. These new findings suggest that the Nyong series in Cameroon represents an uncontested Paleoproterozoic suture zone between the Congo craton and the Sao Francisco craton in Brazil. | Philomene Nga Essomba Tsoungui Sylvestre Ganno Evine Laure Tanko Njiosseu Jean Lavenir Ndema Mbongue Brice Kamguia Woguia Landry Soh Tamehe Jonas Didero Takodjou Wambo Jean Paul Nzenti | 2020 | Acta Geochimica2020,39,3: | 3
Chromodomain-helicase-DNA binding protein 5, 7 and pronecrotic mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein serve as potential prognostic biomarkers in patients with resected pancreatic adenocarcinomas显示文摘Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers with a very poor prognosis. Recently, there has been a significant increase in research directed towards identifying potential biomarkers that can be used to diagnose and provide prognostic information for pancreatic cancer. These markers can be used clinically to optimize and personalize therapy for individual patients. In this review, we focused on 3 biomarkers involved in the DNA damage response pathway and the necroptosis pathway: Chromodomainhelicase-DNA binding protein 5, chromodomain-helicaseDNA binding protein 7, and mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein. The aim of this article is to review present literature provided for these biomarkers and current studies in which their effectiveness as prognostic biomarkers are analyzed in order to determine their future use as biomarkers in clinical medicine. Based on the data presented, these biomarkers warrant further investigation, and should be validated in future studies. | Crystal S Seldon Lauren E Colbert William A Hall Sarah B Fisher David S Yu Jerome C Landry | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2016,8,4: | 2

Thermal characterization of bio-based phase changing materials in decorative wood-based panels for thermal energy storage显示文摘Decorative wood panels containing pouches of bio-based phase changing materials(PCMs) were prepared. Three different PCM mixtures were used: a blend of capric and lauric acids as well as two commercial products, Puretemp?20 and Puretemp?23(Puretemp). The panels consist of engraved Medium Density Fiberboard(MDF) filled with a plastic pouch filled with PCM. High density fiberboard(HDF) was used on top of the panels to enclose the PCM pouches. PCM mixtures were first tested by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). Phase change temperature and total heat storage of the panels were measured for both fusion and solidification with a Dynamic Heat-Flow Meter Apparatus(DHFMA). DSC and DHFMA results were compared, allowing a better understanding of results gathered from these two techniques. DSC calibration has been revealed important when assessing PCMs. The panels present a phase change temperature and a latent heat storage suitable for buildings applications. The panel made with Puretemp?23 presented the highest energy, with 57.1 J g^(-1). Thermal cycling was conducted on the panels to investigate thermal reliability, which revealed small modifications of thermal properties for two products. For all cases, latent heat was found stable. Hygro-mechanical behavior of the panels was also evaluated as these where designed to be esthetic decorative panels. This study exposes the potential of a new type of wood-based panels loaded with PCM for thermal energy storage and brings overall knowledge about PCM products thermal characterization. | Damien Mathis Pierre Blanchet Véronic Landry Philippe Lagière | 2019 | Green Energy & Environment2019,4,1: | 2

Safety, immunogenicity, and protection provided by unadjuvanted and adjuvanted formulations of a recombinant plant-derived virus-like particle vaccine candidate for COVID-19 in nonhuman primates显示文摘Although antivirals are important tools to control severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection,effective vaccines are essential to control the current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.Plant-derived virus-like particle(VLP)vaccine candidates have previously demonstrated immunogenicity and efficacy against influenza. Here,we report the immunogenicity and protection induced in rhesus macaques by intramuscular injections of a VLP bearing a SARS-CoV-2 spike protein(CoVLP)vaccine candidate formulated with or without Adjuvant System 03(AS03)or cytidine-phospho-guanosine(CpG)1018.Although a single dose of the unadjuvanted CoVLP vaccine candidate stimulated humoral and cell-mediated immune responses, booster immunization(at 28 days after priming)and adjuvant administration significantly improved both responses, with higher immunogenicity and protection provided by the AS03-adjuvanted CoVLP.Fifteen micrograms of CoVLP adjuvanted with AS03 induced a polyfunctional interleukin-2(IL-2)-driven response and IL-4 expression in CD4 T cells.Animals were challenged by multiple routes(i.e.,intratracheal,intranasal,and ocular)with a total viral dose of 106 plaque-forming units of SARS-CoV-2.Lower viral replication in nasal swabs and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)as well as fewer SARS-CoV-2-infected cells and immune cell infiltrates in the lungs concomitant with reduced levels of proinflammatory cytokines and chemotactic factors in the BALF were observed in animals immunized with the CoVLP adjuvanted with AS03.No clinical, pathologic,or virologic evidence of vaccineassociated enhanced disease was observed in vaccinated animals. The CoVLP adjuvanted with AS03 was therefore selected for vaccine development and clinical trials. | Stéphane Pillet Prabhu SArunachalam Guadalupe Andreani Nadia Golden Jane Fontenot Pyone Pyone Aye Katharina Röltgen Gabrielle Lehmicke Philipe Gobeil Charlotte Dubé Sonia Trépanier Nathalie Charland Marc-AndréD’Aoust Kasi Russell-Lodrigue Christopher Monjure Robert V.Blair Scott D.Boyd Rudolf P.Bohm Jay Rappaport François Villinger Nathalie Landry Bali Pulendran Brian J.Ward | 2022 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,2: | 2
