| 1 | Selection of Adaptive Grass and Frutex and Their Planting Benefits in the Arid-Hot Valleys of Yuanmou显示文摘In view of the environment character of the soil and content of the soil organic carbon, 278 species of grass and frutex were introduced from abroad and China, Some were selected by applied production and plantation benefit investigations. The results showed that:In the arid-hot valleys of Yuanmou the selected species showed the characteristics of fast growth and high yield (38 227.00 kg/hm2), high nutrition value (CP% content of legu-minous grass and frutex were 22.47%), as well as the strong adversity resistance to high air temperature and arid climate (soil humidity was 3.4%). | 2 | Response of Artificial Grassland Carbon Stock to Management in Mountain Region of Southern Ningxia, China显示文摘Grassland is a major carbon sink in the terrestrial ecosystem. The dynamics of grassland carbon stock profoundly influence the global carbon cycle. In the published literatures so far, however, there are limited studies on the long-term dynamics and influential factors of grassland carbon stock, including soil organic carbon. In this study, spatial-temporal substitution method was applied to explore the characteristics of Medicago sativa L.(alfalfa) grassland biomass carbon and soil organic carbon density(SOCD) in a loess hilly region with different growing years and management patterns. The results demonstrated that alfalfa was the mono-dominant community during the cutting period(viz. 0–10 year). Community succession began after the abandonment of alfalfa grassland and then the important value of alfalfa in the community declined. The artificial alfalfa community abandoned for 30 years was replaced by the S. bungeana community. Accordingly, the biomass carbon density of the clipped alfalfa showed a significant increase over the time during 0–10 year. During 0–30 year, the SOCD from 0–100 cm of the soil layer of all 5 management patterns increased over time with a range between 5.300 ± 0.981 kg/m2 and 12.578 ± 0.863 kg/m2. The sloping croplands had the lowest SOCD at 5.300 ± 0.981 kg/m2 which was quite different from the abandoned grasslands growing for 30 years which exhibited the highest SOCD with 12.578 ± 0.863 kg/m2. The ecosystem carbon density of the grassland clipped for 2 years increased 0.1 kg/m2 compared with the sloping cropland, while that of the grassland clipped for 10 years substantially increased to 10.30 ± 1.26 kg/m2. Moreover, the ecosystem carbon density for abandoned grassland became 12.62 ± 0.50 kg/m2 at 30 years. The carbon density of the grassland undisturbed for 10 years was similar to that of the sloping cropland and the grassland clipped for 2 years. | 3 | Consensus on the digestive endoscopic tunnel technique显示文摘With the digestive endoscopic tunnel technique(DETT), many diseases that previously would have been treated by surgery are now endoscopically curable by establishing a submucosal tunnel between the mucosa and muscularis propria(MP). Through the tunnel, endoscopic diagnosis or treatment is performed for lesions in the mucosa, in the MP, and even outside the gastrointestinal(GI) tract.At present, the tunnel technique application range covers the following:(1)Treatment of lesions originating from the mucosal layer, e.g., endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection for oesophageal large or circular early-stage cancer or precancerosis;(2) treatment of lesions from the MP layer, per-oral endoscopic myotomy, submucosal tunnelling endoscopic resection, etc.; and(3) diagnosis and treatment of lesions outside the GI tract, such as resection of lymph nodes and benign tumour excision in the mediastinum or abdominal cavity. With the increasing number of DETTs performed worldwide, endoscopic tunnel therapeutics, which is based on DETT, has been gradually developed and optimized. However, there is not yet an expert consensus on DETT to regulate its indications, contraindications, surgical procedure, and postoperative treatment.The International DETT Alliance signed up this consensus to standardize the procedures of DETT. | 4 | Metal-Free C_(3)N_(4) with plentiful nitrogen vacancy and increased specific surface area for electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction显示文摘As a substitute for synthetic ammonia under mild condition, electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction(NRR) provides a hopeful approach for the development of ammonia. Nevertheless, the current development of NRR electrocatalysts is far from enough and a systematic research is needed to gain a better improvement. This article presents that 2 D C_(3)N_(4)-NV with a large specific surface area and abundant nitrogen vacancies is prepared by a simple and feasible method, and used as a metal-free catalyst for electrocatalytic NRR. Experiment result and density functional theory(DFT) calculation reveal that nitrogen vacancies in 2 D C_(3)N_(4)-NV can act as an efficient active site for catalytic NRR, which is conducive to capturing and activating N_(2), lowering Gibbs free energy(DG) in reaction and inhibiting hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) at the same time. In addition, the larger specific surface area also makes more active site exposed, which is good for the contact between the electrolyte and the active site, thus enhancing its NRR activity. | 5 | A Teosinte-derived Allele of a MYB Transcription Repressor Confers Multiple Disease Resistance in Maize.显示文摘Natural alleles controlling multiple disease resistances (MDR) are valuable for crop breeding. However, only one MDR gene have been cloned in maize, and molecular mechanisms of MDR are not clear. By map-based cloning, we have cloned a teosinte-derived allele of a resistance gene, Mexicana lesion mimic 1 (ZmMM1), which has a lesion mimic phenotype and confers resistance to northern leaf blight (NLB), gray leaf spot (GLS) and southern corn rust (SCR). Strong MDR conferred by the teosinte allele is linked with the polymorphisms in the 3' untranslated region of the ZmMM1 gene that cause increased accumulation of ZmMM1 protein. ZmMM1 acts as a transcription repressor and negatively regulates transcription of specific target genes including ZmMM1-target gene 3 (ZmMT3), which functions as a negative regulator of plant immunity and associated cell death. | 6 | Biotreatment of oily wastewater by rhamnolipids in aerated active sludge system显示文摘Oily wastewater generated by various industries creates a major ecological problem throughout the world. The traditional methods for the oily wastewater treatment are inefficient and costly. Surfactants can promote the biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons by dispersing oil into aqueous environment. In the present study,we applied rhamnolipid-containing cell-free culture broth to enhance the biodegradation of crude oil and lubricating oil in a conventional aerobically-activated sludge system. At 20 °C,rhamnolipids (11.2 mg/L) increased the removal efficiency of crude oil from 17.7% (in the absence of rhamnolipids) to 63%. At 25 °C,the removal efficiency of crude oil was over 80% with the presence of rhamnolipids compared with 22.3% in the absence of rhamnolipids. Similarly,rhamnolipid treatment (22.5 mg/L) for 24 h at 20 °C significantly increased the removal rate of lubricating oil to 92% compared with 24% in the absence of rhamnolipids. The enhanced removal of hydrocarbons was mainly attributed to the improved solubility and the reduced interfacial tension by rhamnolipids. | 19 | Frankincense myrrh attenuates hepatocellular carcinoma by regulating tumor blood vessel development through multiple epidermal growth factor receptor-mediated signaling pathways显示文摘BACKGROUND In traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),frankincense and myrrh are the main components of the antitumor drug Xihuang Pill.These compounds show anticancer activity in other biological systems.However,whether frankincense and/or myrrh can inhibit the occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is unknown,and the potential molecular mechanism(s)has not yet been determined.AIM To predict and determine latent anti-HCC therapeutic targets and molecular mechanisms of frankincense and myrrh in vivo.METHODS In the present study,which was based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform(http://gffzz390fd749913b458bh0kxpkvu6co6b65nn.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/tcmsp.php),Universal Protein database(http://gffzzc0d2db89b939488bh0kxpkvu6co6b65nn.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn),GeneCards:The Human Gene Database(http://gffzza6b9c6ac78e94ba9h0kxpkvu6co6b65nn.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/)and Comparative Toxicogenomics Database(http://gffzz2b6478e0a40e4229h0kxpkvu6co6b65nn.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/),the efficacy of and mechanism by which frankincense and myrrh act as anti-HCC compounds were predicted.The core prediction targets were screened by molecular docking.In vivo,SMMC-7721 human liver cancer cells were transplanted as xenografts into nude mice to establish a subcutaneous tumor model,and two doses of frankincense plus myrrh or one dose of an EGFR inhibitor was administered to these mice continuously for 14 d.The tumors were collected and evaluated:the tumor volume and growth rate were gauged to evaluate tumor growth;hematoxylineosin staining was performed to estimate histopathological changes;immunofluorescence(IF)was performed to detect the expression of CD31,α-SMA and collagen IV;transmission electron microscopy(TEM)was conducted to observe the morphological structure of vascular cells;enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was performed to measure the levels of secreted HIF-1αand TNF-α;reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR)was performed to measure the mRNA expression of HIF-1α,TNF-α,VEGF and MMP-9;and Western blot(WB)was performed to determine the levels of proteins expressed in the EGFR-mediated PI3K/Akt and MAPK signaling pathways.RESULTS The results of the network pharmacology analysis showed that there were 35 active components in the frankincense and myrrh extracts targeting 151 key targets.The molecular docking analysis showed that both boswellic acid and stigmasterol showed strong affinity for the targets,with the greatest affinity for EGFR.Frankincense and myrrh treatment may play a role in the treatment of HCC by regulating hypoxia responses and vascular system-related pathological processes,such as cytokine-receptor binding,and pathways,such as those involving serine/threonine protein kinase complexes and MAPK,HIF-1 and ErbB signaling cascades.The animal experiment results were verified.First,we found that,through frankincense and/or myrrh treatment,the volume of subcutaneously transplanted HCC tumors was significantly reduced,and the pathological morphology was attenuated.Then,IF and TEM showed that frankincense and/or myrrh treatment reduced CD31 and collagen IV expression,increased the coverage of perivascular cells,tightened the connection between cells,and improved the shape of blood vessels.In addition,ELISA,RT-qPCR and WB analyses showed that frankincense and/or myrrh treatment inhibited the levels of hypoxia-inducible factors,inflammatory factors and angiogenesis-related factors,namely,HIF-1α,TNF-α,VEGF and MMP-9.Furthermore,mechanistic experiments illustrated that the effect of frankincense plus myrrh treatment was similar to that of an EGFR inhibitor with regard to controlling EGFR activation,thereby inhibiting the phosphorylation activity of its downstream targets:the PI3K/Akt and MAPK(ERK,p38 and JNK)pathways.CONCLUSION In summary,frankincense and myrrh treatment targets tumor blood vessels to exert anti-HCC effects via EGFR-activated PI3K/Akt and MAPK signaling pathways,highlighting the potential of this dual TCM compound as an anti-HCC candidate. | Piao Zheng Zhen Huang Dong-Chang Tong Qing Zhou Sha Tian Bo-Wei Chen Di-Min Ning Yin-Mei Guo Wen-Hao Zhu Yan Long Wei Xiao Zhe Deng Yi-Chen Lei Xue-Fei Tian | 2022 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2022,14,2: | 1 |
