| 1 | The age of the base of the Paleoproterozoic Hutuo Group in the Wutai Mountains area, North China Craton: SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating of basaltic andesite显示文摘Basalt and basaltic andesite metamorphosed at greenschist facies occurs with conglomerate layers at the bottom of the Paleoproterozoic Hutuo Group in the Wutai Mountains area, North China Craton. Detailed geological surveying confirms that these volcanic rocks are conformable within the neighboring sedimentary rocks. The SHRIMP results on basaltic andesite are divided into two groups. In one group the 207Pb/206Pb ages are from 2433 to 2558 Ma, which is consistent with the basement crustal age in Fuping and Wutai areas. In the other group, 13 grains yielded a weighted mean 207Pb/206Pb age of 2140±14 Ma. The latter is interpreted as the eruption age of the basaltic andesite, and gives the age of the base of the Hutuo Group. | 4 | Formation age and tectonic environment of the Gantaohe Group,North China Craton:Geology,geochemistry,SHRIMP zircon geochronology and Hf-Nd isotopic systematics显示文摘The Gantaohe Group is an important early Precambrian unit in the Trans-North China Orogen,North China Craton,and is mainly composed of greenschist-facies metabasalt,meta-sandstone and dolomitic marble.We report whole-rock geochemical compositions and SHRIMP zircon ages as well as LA-ICP-MS Hf-in-zircon isotopeic analyses for metabasalts from the Gantaohe Group.SHRIMP dating yielded a weighted mean 207Pb/206Pb age of 2087±16 Ma(MSWD=1.3) for magmatic zircons,but there are also abundant ca.2.5 Ga inherited zircon xenocrysts.The magmatic zircons shows a large Hf(t) variation in Hf(t) from 7.17 to +0.45,suggesting an isotopically highly heterogeneous source for the metabasalt.Chemically all samples show no distinct Zr or Hf anomalies,and some samples show no Nd or Ta anomalies in a primitive mantle-normalized trace element variation diagram,and their whole-rock Nd(t) values range from 4.0 to 0.8.We suggest that the basalt is formed by partial melting of a depleted mantle source,followed by significant crustal contamination.Field observations,the presence of abundant inherited zircon,as well as isotope and trace elements geochemistry support formation of the Gantaohe Group on top of a continental basement.These data and the regional geology lead us to conclude that the Trans-North China Orogen constituted an intracontinental rift during the Paleoproterozoic that was connected to the Eastern Block since the end of the Archean. | XIE HangQiang LIU DunYi YIN XiaoYan ZHOU HongYing YANG ChongHui DU LiLin WAN YuSheng | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,36: | 16 |

| 7 | Quantitative (stereological) study of incomplete spermatogenic suppression induced by testosterone undecanoate injection in rats显示文摘Aim: To evaluate the key lesions in spermatogenesis suppressed partially by testosterone undecanoate(TU) treatment. Methods: Adult male SD rats were treated with vehicle or TU (19 mg/kg) injection (i.m.) every 15 days for 130 days. The numbers of all types of cells (nuclei) in the seminiferous tubules and the interstitial tissue were estimated using a contemporary stereological tool, the optical disector. Results: In response to TU treatment, the numbers of non-type B spermatogonia, type B sperrnatogonia and late elongated spermatids per testis were reduced to 51%, 66% and 14% of the controls, respectively. The conversion ratios from type B spermatogonia to early spermatocytes and pachytene spermatocytes were not significantly affected and the ratios to the later germ cell types fell to 51%-65% of the controls. Less than 1.0 % of immature round spermatids were seen sloughing into the tubule lumen, 4.0% of elongated spermatids retained in the seminiferous epithelium, and about half of the elongated spermatid nuclei appreciably malformed. Leydig cells were atrophied but their number and the peritubular myoid cell number per testis were unchanged. Conclusion: Double inhibition of spermatogenesis (i.e. inhibition at spermiation and spermatogonial conversion to type B spermatogonia), a scenario seen in the monkey and human following gonadotrophin withdrawal, was not sufficiently effective for a complete spermatogenic suppression in the rat after TU treatment, probably due to ineffective inhibition of the Leydig cell population and therefore the intra-testicular test-osterone levels. | 8 | Mercury adsorption characteristics of HBr-modified fly ash in an entrained-flow reactor显示文摘In this study, the mercury adsorption characteristics of HBr-modified fly ash in an entrained-flow reactor were investigated through thermal decomposition methods. The results show that the mercury adsorption performance of the HBr-modified fly ash was enhanced significantly. The mercury species adsorbed by unmodified fly ash were Hg Cl2,Hg S and Hg O. The mercury adsorbed by HBr-modified fly ash, in the entrained-flow reactor,existed in two forms, Hg Br2 and Hg O, and the HBr was the dominant factor promoting oxidation of elemental mercury in the entrained-flow reactor. In the current study, the concentration of Hg Br2 and Hg O in ash from the fine ash vessel was 4.6 times greater than for ash from the coarse ash vessel. | 9 | Provenance of the Paleoproterozoic Hutuo Group basal conglomerates and Neoarchean crustal growth in the Wutai Mountains,North China Craton:Evidence from granite and quartzite pebble zircon U-Pb ages and Hf isotopes显示文摘Zircon U-Pb ages(SHRIMP and LA-ICPMS) and Lu-Hf isotope data(LA-ICPMS) are presented for two granite and two quartzite pebbles from the basal conglomerates of the Sijizhuang Formation in the Hutuo Group from the Wutai Mountains area in the North China Craton.These two granite pebbles give zircon 207 Pb/206 Pb ages of 2513±8 Ma and 2527±8 Ma respectively,which are consistent with the emplacement ages of the Wangjiahui grey granite and Guangmingsi or Shifo granite in the Wutai Mountains.Detrital zircons from those two quartzite pebbles are mostly 2550-2490 Ma old with lesser number of 2800-2550 Ma grains,which is similar to the ages of detrital zircons from quartzites in the Gaofan Subgroup of the Neoarchean Wutai Group.Thus,the pebbles in the Hutuo Group basal conglomerates were derived locally from Wutai Mountains Neoarchean sources.Zircons from the Sijizhuang Formation conglomerate granite and quartzite pebbles mostly have positive ε Hf(t) values,a minority with ε Hf(t) values like model depleted mantle(DM) of the same age,but with most showing DM model ages 200-100 Ma.This indicates that most of the source materials were derived from the mantle within the previous 200 million years,whereas some are derived from 2550-2510 Ma juvenile crustal additions.This additional evidence suggests that in the North China Craton there was important initial polycyclic crustal formation and cratonization in the late Neoarchaean,prior to superimposed Palaeoproterozoic orogenic cycles. | DU LiLin YANG ChongHui WANG Wei REN LiuDong WAN YuSheng SONG HuiXia GAO LinZhi GENG YuanSheng HOU KeJun | 2012 | Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,11: | 8 |

| 19 | Inactivation of TFEB and NF-kB by marchantin M alleviates the chemotherapy-driven pro-tumorigenic senescent secretion显示文摘It is critical to regulate the senescence-associated secretory phenotype(SASP) due to its effect on promoting malignant phenotypes and limiting the efficiency of cancer therapy. In this study, we demonstrated that marchantin M(Mar-M, a naturally occurring bisbibenzyl) suppressed proinflammatory SASP components which were elevated in chemotherapy-resistant cells. Mar-M treatment attenuated the pro-tumorigenic effects of SASP and enhanced survival in drug-resistant mouse models.No toxicity was detected on normal fibroblast cells or in animals following this treatment. Inactivation of transcription factor EB(TFEB) and nuclear factor-k B(NF-k B) by Mar-M significantly accounted for its suppression on the components of SASP. Furthermore, inhibition of SASP by Mar-M contributed to a synergistic effect during co-treatment with doxorubicin to lower toxicity and enhance antitumor efficacy. Thus, chemotherapy-driven pro-inflammatory activity, seen to contribute to drug-resistance, is an important target for Mar-M.
