| 2 | Polaron Effect of a Two Electron Parabolic Quantum Dot显示文摘Polaron induced double electron in a quantum dot is investigated using the exact diagonalization techniques and the compact density-matrix approach. The dependence of nonlinear optical processes on the incident photon energies and the polaronic effect are brought out. The linear, third order non-linear optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index changes of singlet and triplet states as a function of photon energy are obtained with and without the inclusion of polaronic effect. | 3 | Comparative study of rendezvous techniques in post-liver transplant biliary stricture显示文摘AIM:To investigate the usefulness of a new rendezvous technique for placing stents using the Kumpe(KMP) catheter in angulated or twisted biliary strictures.METHODS:The rendezvous technique was performed in patients with a biliary stricture after living donor liver transplantation(LDLT) who required the exchange of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage catheters for inside stents.The rendezvous technique was performed using a guidewire in 19 patients(guidewire group) and using a KMP catheter in another 19(KMP catheter group).We compared the two groups retrospectively.RESULTS:The baseline characteristics did not differ between the groups.The success rate for placing inside stents was 100% in both groups.A KMP catheter was easier to manipulate than a guidewire.The mean procedure time in the KMP catheter group(1012 s,range:301-2006 s) was shorter than that in the guidewire group(2037 s,range:251-6758 s,P = 0.022).The cumulative probabilities corresponding to the procedure time of the two groups were significantly different(P = 0.008).The factors related to procedure time were the rendezvous technique method,the number of inside stents,the operator,and balloon dilation of the stricture(P < 0.05).In a multivariate analysis,the rendezvous technique method was the only significant factor related to procedure time(P = 0.010).The procedural complications observed included one case of mild acute pancreatitis and one case of acute cholangitis in the guidewire group,and two cases of mild acute pancreatitis in the KMP catheter group.CONCLUSION:The rendezvous technique involving use of the KMP catheter was a fast and safe method for placing inside stents in patients with LDLT biliary stricture that represents a viable alternative to the guidewire rendezvous technique. | Jae Hyuck Chang In Seok Lee Ho Jong Chun Jong Young Choi Seung Kyoo Yoon Dong Goo Kim Young Kyoung You Myung-Gyu Choi Sok Won Han | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012，18，41： | 3 |

| 7 | Bojungbangdocktang inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor induced angiogenesis via blocking the VEGF/VEGFR2 signaling pathway in human umbilical vein endothelial cells显示文摘Oriental herbal medicines have been widely used for the prevention or treatment of various diseases including cancer in Asia. However, to prove their chemo preventive efficacies in modern times, scientific evidence for those herbal medicines is required. Thus, in the present study, an effective herbal cocktail Bojungbangdocktang (BJBDT) was investigated to elucidate antiangiogenic mechanism in vitro and in vivo. BJBDT significantly inhibited vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) induced proliferation in HUVECs at nontoxic concentrations, despite weak cytotoxicity against human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). BJBDT also significantly suppressed VEGF-induced migration and tube formation of HUVECs. Furthermore, BJBDT treatment resulted in pale color and low hemoglobin level in Matrigel plugs, as well as dark red color and high hemoglobin level in untreated control. Interestingly, BJBDT specifically inhibited the binding of VEGF to vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2), but not VEGFR1. In addition, friedelin, formononetin, ginsenoside Rb1, naringin, atractyloside, diosgenin, and allantonin were identified from BJBDT by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis as a quality of control. | 9 | Long-term efficacy and safety of ExPress implantation for treatment of open angle glaucoma显示文摘AIM: To compare the long-term efficacy and safety of Ex Press implantation and standard trabeculectomy in patients with primary open angle glaucoma(POAG).METHODS: In this retrospective study, we compared 17 eyes treated by Ex Press implantation with 23 eyes treated by trabeculectomy. Efficacy was assessed according to the relevant intraocular pressure(IOP) values and success rates during the first year of follow-up. Postoperative corneal endothelial cell loss was also compared. RESULTS: The number of antiglaucoma medications and the IOP reduction were similar between the 2 groups during the follow-up period. Although the mean IOP was similar, the IOP-fluctuation rate during the early postoperative period was significantly lower in the Ex Press group than in the trabeculectomy group(P=0.038). A Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis showed no significant successrate difference between the groups(P=0.810). The corneal endothelial cell loss rate, moreover, was significantly lower in the Ex Press group(P=0.05). CONCLUSION: Ex Press implantation compared with trabeculectomy showed similar IOP-reduction and success rates along with lower IOP fluctuation and endothelial cell loss rates. In some cases, it may be diff icult to preoperatively differentiate low grade chondrosarcoma from benign cartilaginous tumors such as chondroma. We report a case of low grade chondrosarcoma of the nasal septum with characteristic radiologic f indings. Characteristic radiologic f indings such as calcif ications on computed tomography scan and a ring-and-arc pattern on enhanced T1 weighted image were useful in the preoperative diagnosis of low grade chondrosarcoma of the septum.
