| 1 | Grain Size and Wettability of TiO_2/SiO_2 Photocatalytic Composite Thin Filing显示文摘The uniform transparent TiO2/SiO2 photocatalytic composite thin films are prepared by sol-gel method on the soda lime glass substrates, and characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), BET surface area, FTIR spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was found that the addition of SiO2 to TiO2 thin films can suppress the grain growth of TiO2 crystal, increase the hydroxyl content on the surface of TiO2 films, lower the contact angle for water on TiO2 films and enhance the hydrophilic property of TiO2 films. | 6 | Association of Helicobacter pylori infection and giardiasis: Results from a study of surrogate markers for fecal exposure among children显示文摘AIM: To investigate whether Helicobacter pylori (H pykori)infection is associated with hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection, presence of enteroparasites, and other surrogates of fecal exposure.METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study in 121 children consecutively admitted at a pediatric hospital inSalvador, Brazil.H pylori and HAV infection were identified by the presence of serum antibodies. Stool specimens were examined for the presence of ova and parasites. A structured questionnaire inquiring about sanitary conditions and life style was applied to each subject. RESULTS: Fifty-one of the 121 children (42.1%) werefound to be seropositive for H pylori, and 45 (37.2%) for HAV. The seroprevalence ofHpyloriand HAV both increased significantly with age. Cross-tabulation of data showed that 26 (21.5%) were seropositive and 51 (42.1%) were negative for bothHpyloriand HAV antibodies (χ2 = 7.18,OR = 2.8, CI 1.30-5.97). The age adjusted OR for an HAV-infected child being H pylori positive was 2.3 (CI1.02-5.03). The agreement between H pylori and HAVseropositivity was fair (κ = 0.24). After controlling for possible confounding, the variables remaining independently associated with seropositivity to H pyloriwere age,presence of Giardia lamblia in feces (OR = 3.2, 95%CI, 1.1-9.5) and poor garbage disposal quality (OR = 2.4,95%CI, 1.1-5.1).CONCLUSION: Our data suggest that H pylori infection is associated with surrogate markers of fecal exposure. Thus, we conclude that the fecal-oral route is relevant in the transmission of HP among children in an urban setting of a developing country. The association observed between G. lamblia and H pylori infection may have several explanations. | 8 | Distribution of Grain Hardness in Chinese Wheats and Genetic Analysis显示文摘A hundred winter wheat and 41 spring wheat cultivars and advanced lines were used to investigate the distribution of grain hardness in Chinese wheats and correlations between grain hardness and other kernel traits. P1, P2, F1, F2 and F3 from three crosses, i. e. , Liken2/Yumai2, 85Zhong33/Wenmai6 and 85Zhong33/95Zhong459 were sown to study the genetics of grain hardness. Significant correlation was observed between hardness measured by Single Kernel Characteristic System 4100 (SKCS 4100) and Near Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy, r ranging from 0. 85 to 0.94. Chinese wheat is a mixed population in terms of hardness, ranging from very soft to very hard. For autumn-sown wheat, on average, grain hardness decreases from north to south and spring-sown wheat is dominant with hard type. Hardness is negatively associated with flour color, and its associations with flour yield and ash content differ in winter and spring wheats. | 9 | IMPROVING 9-INTERSECTION MODEL BY REPLACING THE COMPLEMENT WITH VORONOI REGION显示文摘intersection model is the most popular framework used for formalizing the spatial relations between two spatial objects A and B. It transforms the topological relation- ships between two simple spatial Objects A and B into point-set topology problem in terms of the intersections of A’s boundary ( A), interior (A0) and exterior (A - ) with B’s bound- ary ( B), interior (B0) and exterior (B - ). It is shown in this paper that there exist some limitations of the original 9-intersection model due to its definition of an object’s exterior as its complement,and it is difficult to distinguish different disjoint relations and relations be- tween complex objects with holes, difficult or even impossible to compute the intersections with the two object’s complements ( A B -, A0 B -, A - B, A - B0 and A - B - )since the complements are infinitive. The authors suggest to re-define the exterior of spa- tial object by replacing the complement with its Voronoi region. A new Voronoi-based 9-in- tersection (VNI) is proposed and used for formalizing topological relations between spatial objects. By improving the 9-interscetion model, it is now possible to distinguish disjoint rela- tions and to deal with objects with holes.
