16Exotic tree seedlings are much more competitive than natives but show underyielding when growing together显示文摘Aims Invasive species continue to be a worldwide threat to ecosystems mainly as a cause for biodiversity loss.Forest ecosystems,for example,are subject to a change in species composition due to the invasion of exotic species.specifying the attributes that cause the strong competitiveness of several exotic species may improve the ability to understand and effectively manage plant invasions in the future.In this study the following hypotheses were tested:(1)biomass production of below-and aboveground plant compo-nents of the exotic tree species is higher than that of the natives,resulting in a higher competitiveness of the exotics;(2)the exclu-sion of root competition has a positive effect on the biomass pro-duction of the inferior native species;and(3)mixtures of native and exotic species yield a higher biomass production than the respective monocultures.Methods a pot experiment,containing about 2000 tree seedlings,was established.We investigated the biomass productivity and growth reactions of two native(Quercus robur l.,Carpinus betulus l.)and two exotic tree species(Prunus serotina Ehrh.,Robinia pseudoacacia l.)in different intra-and interspecific,competitive situations with and without the influence of root competition.Important Findingsthe biomass production of both exotic species was significantly higher and led to a strong competitive advantage,resulting in a biomass decrease of the less competitive native species.the high belowground biomass of both exotic species had a negative effect on the biomass production.the competitive pressure of exotic tree seedlings on the native ones was largely driven by root competition.Furthermore,mixtures of native and exotic tree species had a higher productivity than their growth in monocultures would have predicted.Competition was lower for exotic species in mixtures with the less productive native species compared to the competition in monocultures or in mixture with the other highly productive exotic species.accordingly,both highly competitive exotic species produced less biomass in mixture with each other compared to monocultures.Despite the significantly higher biomass of P.serotina in all mixtures and in monoculture,R.pseudoacacia seemed to be the dominating species.Due to its strong root competition,R.pseudoacacia significantly reduced the biomass production of P.serotina.Heike Kawaletz Inga Mölder Stefan Zerbe Peter Annighöfer André Terwei Christian Ammer 2013Journal of Plant Ecology2013,6,4:0
17Exclusive breastfeeding greater than 50%, success of education in a university hospital in Bogotá: Case-control study显示文摘BACKGROUND Maintenance rates of exclusive breastfeeding(EBF)worldwide are low,thus,one of the objectives of the summary of policies on breastfeeding(BF)in world nutrition goals for 2025 are that at least 50%of infants under six months of age receive EBF that year.The Objective of this study is to document the rates of EBF in children born in San Ignacio University Hospital(HUSI)and identify factors associated with maintenance.AIM To document the percentages of EBF in those that were born at HUSI and identify factors associated to their maintenance.METHODS This is a study of cases and controls in an analytic,retrospective cohort that took children born alive between January 2016 and January 2019 at HUSI located in the city of Bogotá,Colombia.RESULTS Receiving information about BF at HUSI was able to maintain EBF up until 4 mo(OR=1.65;95%CI:1.02-2.66).The presence of gynecologic and obstetric comorbidities(OR=0.32;95%CI:0.12-0.83),having mastitis(OR=0.56;95%CI:0.33-0.94),and receiving information from mass media(OR=0.52;95%CI:0.31-0.84)are factors associated with not maintaining EBF.CONCLUSION Receiving education at a Women-and Child-Friendly Institution was the only significant factor to achieve EBF until 4 mo,with a frequency greater than the one reported in the country,which matches multiple studies where counseling and individualized support on BF achieve this purpose.Knowledge about BF and early detection of obstetric/gynecologic complications must be strengthened among the healthcare staff in charge of mothers during post-partum.Additionally,strategies must be promoted to continue BF such as creating milk banks with the objective of increasing BF rates even when mothers return to work.Marcela Murillo Galvis Sofia Ortegon Ochoa Clara Eugenia Plata García Maria Paula Valderrama Junca Dayanna Alejandra Inga Ceballos Daniel Mauricio Mora Gómez Claudia M Granados Martin Rondón 2024World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics2024,13,1:0
