1Synthesis of novel adsorbent by intercalation of biopolymer in LDH for the removal of arsenic from synthetic and natural water显示文摘This study focuses on the synthesis of nanocomposites named CCA and CZA that were prepared by the incorporation of cellulose(CL)in the Ca/Al and Zn/Al layered double hydroxide(LDH),respectively.These materials were then used for the uptake of As(Ⅲ)and As(V)from aqueous medium.Characterization of both nanocomposites(CCA and CZA)was done using FTIR and Raman analysis to identify the functional groups,N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms to determine the specific surface area and pore geometry and XPS analysis to obtain the surface atomic composition.Some other characters were investigated using simultaneous TGA and DTA and elemental chemical analysis(CHNS/O).The crystallinity of the prepared nanocomposites was displayed by XRD patterns.Furthermore,the sheet-like structure of the LDHs and the irregularity of surface morphology with porous structure were observed by TEM and SEM microphotographs.Optimization of maximum adsorption capacity was adjusted using different parameters including pH,contact time and adsorbent dosage.The pseudo-second-order model was in good fitting with kinetics results.The adsorption isotherm results showed that CZA exhibits better adsorption capacity for As(Ⅲ)than CCA and the Langmuir isotherm model described the data well for both nanocomposites.Thermodynamic studies illustrated the endothermic nature of CCA and exothermic nature on CZA,as well as the fact that the adsorption process is spontaneous.A real water sample collected from well located in Gabes(Tunisia),has also been treated.The obtained experimental results were confirmed that these sorbents are efficient for the treatment of hazardous toxic species such as.Hanen Bessaies Sidra Iftekhar Bhairavi Doshi Jamel Kheriji Mohamed Chaker Ncibi Varsha Srivastava Mika Sillanpaa Bechir Hamrouni 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,5:10
2Proteome analysis of alfalfa roots in response to water deficit stress显示文摘To evaluate the response of alfalfa to water deficit(WD) stress, WD-induced candidates were investigated through a proteomic approach. Alfalfa seedlings were exposed to WD stress for 12 and 15 days respectively, followed by 3 days re-watering. Water deficit increased H2O2 content, lipid peroxidation, DPPH(1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl)-radical scavenging activity, and the free proline level in alfalfa roots. Root proteins were extracted and separated by two-dimentional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(2-DE). A total of 49 WD-responsive proteins were identified in alfalfa roots; 25 proteins were reproducibly found to be up-regulated and 24 were down-regulated. Two proteins, namely cytosolic ascorbate peroxidase(APx2) and putative F-box protein were newly detected on 2-DE maps of WD-treated plants. We identified several proteins including agamous-like 65, albumin b-32, inward rectifying potassium channel, and auxin-independent growth promoter. The identified proteins are involved in a variety of cellular functions including calcium signaling, abacisic acid(ABA) biosynthesis, reactive oxygen species(ROS) regulation, transcription/ translation, antioxidant/detoxification/stress defense, energy metabolism, signal transduction, and storage. 4Characterization and physicochemical aspects of novel cellulose-based layered double hydroxide nanocomposite for removal of antimony and fluoride from aqueous solution显示文摘A series of novel adsorbents composed of cellulose(CL)with Ca/Al layered double hydroxide(CC_(x)A;where x represent the Ca/Al molar ratio)were prepared for the adsorption of antimony(Sb(V))and fluoride(F^(-))ions from aqueous solutions.The CC_(x)A was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET),elemental analysis(CHNS/O),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA-DTA),zeta potential,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive Xray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX)analysis.The effects of varying parameters such as dose,pH,contact time,temperature and initial concentration on the adsorption process were investigated.According to the obtained results,the adsorption processes were described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model.Langmuir adsorption isotherm model provided the best fit for the experimental data and was used to describe isotherm constants.The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 77.2 and 63.1 mg/g for Sb(V)and F^(-),respectively by CC_(3)A(experimental conditions:pH 5.5,time 60 min,dose 15 mg/10 mL,temperature 298 K).The CC_(3)A nanocomposite was able to reduce the Sb(V)and F^(-)ions concentration in synthetic solution to lower than 6μg/L and 1.5 mg/L,respectively,which are maximum contaminant levels of these elements in drinking water according to WHO guidelines.Hanen Bessaies Sidra Iftekhar Muhammad Bilal Asif Jamel Kheriji Chaker Necibi Mika Sillanpää Bechir Hamrouni 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,4:4

6Flooding and its relationship with land cover change, population growth, and road density显示文摘Bangladesh experiences frequent hydro-climatic disasters such as flooding.These disasters are believed to be associated with land use changes and climate variability.However,identifying the factors that lead to flooding is challenging.This study mapped flood susceptibility in the northeast region of Bangladesh using Bayesian regularization back propagation(BRBP)neural network,classification and regression trees(CART),a statistical model(STM)using the evidence belief function(EBF),and their ensemble models(EMs)for three time periods(2000,2014,and 2017).The accuracy of machine learning algorithms(MLAs),STM,and EMs were assessed by considering the area under the curve—receiver operating characteristic(AUC-ROC).Evaluation of the accuracy levels of the aforementioned algorithms revealed that EM4(BRBP-CART-EBF)outperformed(AUC>90%)standalone and other ensemble models for the three time periods analyzed.Furthermore,this study investigated the relationships among land cover change(LCC),population growth(PG),road density(RD),and relative change of flooding(RCF)areas for the period between 2000 and 2017.The results showed that areas with very high susceptibility to flooding increased by 19.72%between 2000 and 2017,while the PG rate increased by 51.68%over the same period.The Pearson correlation coefficient for RCF and RD was calculated to be 0.496.These findings highlight the significant association between floods and causative factors.The study findings could be valuable to policymakers and resource managers as they can lead to improvements in flood management and reduction in flood damage and risks.Mahfuzur Rahman Chen Ningsheng Golam Iftekhar Mahmud Md Monirul Islam Hamid Reza Pourghasemi Hilal Ahmad Jules Maurice Habumugisha Rana Muhammad Ali Washakh Mehtab Alam Enlong Liu Zheng Han Huayong Ni Tian Shufeng Ashraf Dewan 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,6:3

8Synthesis and application of biocompatible nontoxic nanoparticles for reclamation of Ce^3+ from synthetic wastewater: Toxicity assessment, kinetic, isotherm and thermodynamic study显示文摘The aim of present study is to synthesize forsterite nanoparticles(FRST) for the reclamation of cerium ions(Ce^(3+)) from synthetic wastewater.The aim to synthesize FRST nanoparticles is due to its biocompatible and nontoxic nature.The formation of nanoparticles with average diameter of 58 nm was confirmed by TEM analysis.SEM images of bare FRST nanoparticles show a heterogeneous surface with porous nature.BET surface area of FRST nanoparticles is calculated to be 33.69 m^2/g.The significant uptake of Ce^(3+) ions can be obtained for all the selected concentrations(25-150 mg/L) within 2 h of adsorbent—adsorbate interaction.The pH study shows that by increasing pH from acidic to alkaline range,higher removal can be achieved.Temperature study demonstrates the endothermic nature of Ce^(3+)adsorption.The value of sticking probability suggests very high sticking probability of Ce^(3+) ion for FRST nanoparticles.Ce^(3+) uptake is favored by higher temperature and with the increase in temperature from298 to 328 K,Langmuir adsorption capacity increases from 36.45 to 42.99 m^2/g.Applicability of FRST nanoparticles was also investigated for other light and heavy rare earth elements in single solute and multisolute systems,FRST nanoparticles show the significant removal of divalent metallic pollutants as well.The assessment of chemical toxicity of treated wastewater was carried out with the bioluminescent photobacterium(Vibrio fischeri) and decreased toxicity was observed in treated water samples.The outcome of present study suggests that the FRST nanoparticles can be efficiently utilized for the removal of Ce^(3+) ions and a wide range of other pollutant species as well.Varsha Srivastava Sidra Iftekhar ZhaoWang Indu Babu Mika Sillanpaa 2018Journal of Rare Earths2018,36,9:2

14A Study on the Gas-Solid Particle Flows in a Needle-Free Drug Delivery Device显示文摘Different systems have been used over the years to deliver drug particles to the human skin for pharmaceutical effect. Research has been done to improve the performance and flexibility of these systems. In recent years a unique system called the transdermal drug delivery has been developed. Transdermal drug delivery opened a new door in the field of drug delivery as it is more flexible and offers better performance than the conventional systems. The principle of this system is to accelerate drug particles with a high speed gas flow. Among different transdermal drug delivery systems we will concentrate on the contour shock tube system in this paper. A contoured shock tube is consists of a rupture chamber, a shock tube and a supersonic nozzle section. The drug particles are retained between a set of bursting diaphragm. When the diaphragm is ruptured at a certain pressure, a high speed unsteady flow is initiated through the shock tube which accelerates the particles. Computational fluid dynamics is used to simulate and analyze the flow field. The DPM (discrete phase method) is used to model the particle flow. As an unsteady flow is initiated though the shock tube the drag correlation proposed by Igra et al is used other than the standard drag correlation. The particle velocities at different sections including the nozzle exit are investigated under different operating conditions. Static pressure histories in different sections in the shock tube are investigated to analyze the flow field.
