6The common language of space:a way of looking at the social,economic and environmental functioning of cities on a common basis显示文摘This paper proposes that in addition to urban research which seeks to provide answers to policy questions, there is also a need for research which directly addresses the physical and spatial complexity of the built environment itself, and explores any effects it may in itself have on the functioning of the urban system. This type of research reflects the questions architects and urban designers typically ask, rather than those that preoccupy planners. For such research to be effective, the physical complexity variable must be controlled at the level at which real design decisions are made. “Space syntax” research attempts to do this by treating built environments as systems of space, analysing them “configurationally”, and trying to bring to light their underlying patterns and structures. Results from space syntax research into many aspects of urban space and how it works show a consistency which suggests that analysing spacial structure can be a general means of investigating the structure and function of cities. 8Benefits of Conservation Agriculture on Soil and Water Conservation and Its Progress in China显示文摘Conservation agriculture has been practised for three decades and has been spread widely. There are many nomenclatures surrounding conservation agriculture and differ to each other lightly. Conservation agriculture (CA) is a system approach to soil and water conservation, high crop productivity and profitability, in one word, it is a system approach to sustainable agriculture. Yet, because conservation agriculture is a knowledge-intensive and a complex system to learn and implement, and also because of traditions of intensive cultivation, adoption rates have been low, since to date, only about seven percent of the world's arable and permanent cropland area is farmed under conservation agriculture. The practice and wider extention of conservation agriculture thus requires a deeper understanding of its ecological underpinnings in order to manage its various elements for sustainable intensification, where the aim is to conserve soil and water and improve sustainability over the long term. 12INK-JET PRINT QUALITY IMPROVEMENT THROUGH THE USE OF CATIONIC SMA RESIN ADDITIVE IN PAPER COATING显示文摘Ink-jet printing technology is a prominent feature of any home office as it is more economical when compared with other printing technologies. The base paper for this study was a commercial fine paper, coated on one side with a typical formula of 100 pph pigment: 30 pph binder: ≤ 1 pph additive at 25% solids content. The focus of this paper was to evaluate a cationic resin additive in the coating formulation and its effect on print image sharpness. The print image sharpness was assessed based on the measured parameters of mean grey scale, area and perimeter of the image. Compared with a typical coating additive (i.e. Poly-dadmac), the coatings with SMA resin additives showed good grey scale ink density on the sheet. Compared to uncoated samples, the ink deposited on the SMA containing coated sheets was not absorbed into the paper, allowing for better print areas to be produced. 13西部黄土高原苜蓿终止时间对苜蓿-小麦轮作系统生产力及土壤水分的影响(英文)显示文摘旱作春小麦(Triticum aestivum L.)是西部黄土高原最重要的禾谷类作物,该区苜蓿(Medicago sativa L.)分布也非常广泛。持续的作物连作和多年苜蓿种植系统都存在很多问题。雨养农业系统发展的关键是最佳水分利用策略的应用。发展合理的苜蓿-小麦轮作系统对该区农业的发展有十分重要的意义。由于苜蓿终止时间严重影响土壤水分,所以在适宜的时间终止苜蓿就显得十分重要。然而,关于苜蓿-小麦轮作中老苜蓿在一年中适宜终止时间的研究鲜见报道。本研究利用黄土高原西部典型的半干旱雨养农业区30年老苜蓿布设田间试验,旨在探索老苜蓿地土壤水分状况、苜蓿终止时间和少量氮肥施用对系统生产力及土壤水分的影响。结果表明,长期种植苜蓿后0~3m土壤水分很少,即便遇到丰水年(2003年),3年的时间都不足以恢复土壤水分。30年苜蓿在一年中春季还是秋季终止对土壤水分状况无显著影响。种植苜蓿30年后杂草竞争力增强,苜蓿干物质和产量水平都相当低,且对1kg hm-2的氮肥使用无明显响应。由于土壤水分含量太低,后茬春小麦对1kg hm-2的氮肥使用和苜蓿终止时间也无明显响应。因此,苜蓿持续种植时间太长会耗竭土壤水分,使后茬春小麦对苜蓿在一年中的终止时间及少量的氮肥使用无响应,需要3年以上时间才有可能恢复土壤含水量。李玲玲 黄高宝 张仁陟 蔡立群 罗珠珠 晋小军 张恩和 BELLOTTI Bill UNKOVICH Murray 2011作物学报2011,37,4:11

16Laboratory study on the mechanical behaviors of an anisotropic shale rock显示文摘Shale gas is becoming an important energy source worldwide.The geomechanical properties of shale rocks can have a major impact on the ef fi ciency of shale gas exploration.This paper studied the mineralogical and mechanical characteristics of a typical gas shale in Ohio,USA.Scanning electron microscope(SEM)with energy dispersive X-ray(EDX)analyses was employed to measure the microstructure and material composition of the shale rock.The anisotropic behaviors of shale rock,including compressive and tensile strengths,were experimentally measured.The characteristics of shale rock were also studied by nondestructive wave speed measurements.The shale demonstrated strong anisotropic behaviors with the tensile strengths perpendicular to the bedding plane around 300e360 times of that parallel to bedding plane.Results of ultrasonic tests indicated that both compression and shear wave velocities show strong anisotropic patterns.The compression wave speed was the smallest in the direction perpendicular to the bedding plane;while the shear wave speed was the smallest in the direction parallel to the bedding plane.The ratio of wave speed anisotropy is around 1.3e1.4 for compression wave;the ratio of shear wave speed anisotropy is larger and more diverse compared with the compression wave anisotropy.This might be related to the larger variability in the frictional adhesive strength along bedding plane than the compressive adhesive strength.Quan Gao Junliang Tao Jianying Hu Xiong(Bill) Yu 2015Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2015,7,2:10
17Global significance of the carbon cycle in the karst dynamic system:evidence from geological and ecological processes显示文摘On the basis of proposing the existence of a karst carbon cycle and carbon sink at a watershed scale,this paper provides four pieces of evidence for;the integration of geology and ecology during the carbon cycle processes m the karst dynamic system,and estxmated the karst carbon sink effect using the methods of comparative monitoring of paired watersheds and the carbon stable isotope tracer technique.The results of the soil carbon cycle in Maocun,Guilin,showed that the soil carbon cycle in the karst area,the weathering and dissolution of carbonate rocks under the soil,resulted in a lower soil respiration of 25% in the karstoarea than in a non-karst area (sandstone and shale),and the carbon isotope results indicated that 13.46% of the heavy carbon of the hmestone is involved in the soil carbon cycle.The comparative monitoring results m paxred watersheds,suggesting that the HCO3 concentration m a karst spring is 10 times that of a rivulet in a non-karst area,while the concentration of inorganic carbon flux is 23.8 times.With both chemical stoichiometry and carbon stable isotopes,the proportion of carbon in karst springs derived from carbonate rocks was found to be 58.52% and 37.65% respectively.The comparison on carbon exchange and isotopes at the water-gas interface between the granite and carbonate rock basins in the Li River showed that the CO2 emission of the karst water is 10.92 times that of the allogenic water from the non-karst area,while the carbon isotope of HCO3^- in karst water is lighter by 8.62%.However,this does not mean that the karst water body has a larger carbon source effect.On the contrary,it means the karst water body has a greater karst carbon sink effect.When the karst subterranean stream in Zhaidi,Guilin,is exposed at the surface,carbon-rich karst water stimulated the growth of aquatic plants.The values of carbon stable isotopes in the same species of submerged plants gradually becomes heavier and heavier,and the 512 m flow process has a maximum range of 15.46%.The calculation results showed that 12.52% of inorganic carbon is converted into organic carbon.According to the data that has been published,the global karst carbon sink flux was estimated to be 0.53-0.58 PgC/a,equivalent to 31.18%-34.41% of the global forest carbon sink flux.In the meanwhile,the karst carbon sink flux in China was calculated to be 0.051 PgC/a,accounting for 68% of its forest carbon sink flux.Jian-hua Cao Xia Wu Fen Huang Bill Hu Chris Groves Hui Yang Chun-lai Zhang 2018China Geology2018,1,1:9

19Investigation of operational parameters for an industrial CFB combustor of coal,biomass and sludge显示文摘The combustion of coal and/or biomass (sludge, wood waste, RDF, etc.) in a circulating fluidized bed has been a commercial topper for over20 years, and references to principles and applications are numerous and widespread although few data are presented concerning the operation oflarge scale CFB-units. The authors studied the CFB-combustion at UPM-Kymmene (Ayr), a major paper mill relying for its steam production uponthe combustion of coal (80-85%), wood bark (5-10%) and wastewater treatment sludge (5-10%). The maximum capacity of the CFB is 58 MWth.A complete diagnostic of the operation was made, and additional tests were performed to assess the operating mode. The plant schematics,relevant dimensions and process data are given. To assess the operation of the UPM-CFB, it is important to review essential design parameters andprinciples of CFB combustors, which will be discussed in detail to include required data, heat balance and flowrates, operating versus transportvelocity, kinetics and conversion (including the possible effect of the Bouduard reaction if carbon is present).Since the residence time in the riser and the cyclone efficiency determine the burnout of circulating fuel-particles, the UPM-CFB was subjectedto a stimulus response technique using nickel oxide as tracer. Results illustrate the efficiency of the cyclone separation and the number of recycleloops for particles of a given size.
