1Tooth regeneration: a revolution in stomatology and evolution in regenerative medicine显示文摘A tooth is a complex biological organ and consists of multiple tissues including the enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp. Tooth loss is the most common organ failure. Can a tooth be regenerated? Can adult stem cells be orchestrated to regenerate tooth structures such as the enamel, dentin, cementum and dental pulp, or even an entire tooth? If not, what are the therapeutically viable sources of stem cells for tooth regeneration? Do stem cells necessarily need to be taken out of the body, and manipulated ex vivo before they are transplanted for tooth regeneration? How can regenerated teeth be economically competitive with dental implants? Would it be possible to make regenerated teeth affordable by a large segment of the population worldwide? This review article explores existing and visionary approaches that address some of the above-mentioned questions. Tooth regeneration represents a revolution in stomatology as a shift in the paradigm from repair to regeneration: repair is by metal or artificial materials whereas regeneration is by biological restoration. Tooth regeneration is an extension of the concepts in the broad field of regenerative medicine to restore a tissue defect to its original form and function by biological substitutes.Sibel Yildirim Susan Y. 2Comparative study of chitosan/fibroin–hydroxyapatite and collagen membranes for guided bone regeneration in rat calvarial defects: micro-computed tomography analysis显示文摘This study aimed to utilize micro-computed tomography(micro-CT)analysis to compare new bone formation in rat calvarial defects using chitosan/fibroin–hydroxyapatite(CFB–HAP)or collagen(Bio-Gide)membranes.Fifty-four(54)rats were studied.A circular bony defect(8 mm diameter)was formed in the centre of the calvaria using a trephine bur.The CFB–HAP membrane was prepared by thermally induced phase separation.In the experimental group(n518),the CFB–HAP membrane was used to cover the bony defect,and in the control group(n518),a resorbable collagen membrane(Bio-Gide)was used.In the negative control group(n518),no membrane was used.In each group,six animals were euthanized at 2,4 and 8 weeks after surgery.The specimens were then analysed using micro-CT.There were significant differences in bone volume(BV)and bone mineral density(BMD)(P,0.05)between the negative control group and the membrane groups.However,there were no significant differences between the CFB–HAP group and the collagen group.We concluded that the CFB–HAP membrane has significant potential as a guided bone regeneration(GBR)membrane.Jae Min Song Sang Hun Shin Yong Deok Kim Jae Yeol Lee Young Jae Baek Sang Yong Yoon Hong Sung Kim 2014International Journal of Oral Science2014,6,2:15
3Effects of Cr interlayer on mechanical and tribological properties of Cr-Al-Si-N nanocomposite coating显示文摘Cr-Al-Si-N coatings were deposited on SUS 304 substrate by a hybrid coating system. A Cr interlayer was introduced between Cr-Al-Si-N coating and SUS 304 substrate to improve the coating adherence. The effects of Cr interlayer on the microhardness, adhesion, and tribological behavior of Cr-Al-Si-N coatings were systematically investigated. The results indicate that the microhardness of the Cr-Al-Si-N coatings gradually deceases with increasing thickness of Cr interlayers. The adhesion between Cr-Al-Si-N and SUS 304 substrate is improved by addition of the Cr interlayers. A peak critical load of ~50 N is observed for the coating containing Cr interlayer of 60 nm as compared ~ 20 N for the coating without Cr interlayer. The thicker Cr interlayers result in reduced critical load values. Moreover, the wear resistance of the Cr-Al-Si-N coatings is greatly enhanced by introducing the Cr interlayer with thickness of 60 nm in spite of the decreased microhardness. 4Self-reduction Mechanism of Coal Composite Stainless Steel Dust Hot Briquette显示文摘To efficiently recycle valuable metals such as chromium and nickel in stainless steel dust,self-reduction experiments were carried out to study the reduction mechanism of metal oxides in coal composite stainless steel dust hot briquette,which is defined as a CCSB here.Self-reduction of CCSB is proceeded by volatile matter and fixed carbon contained within CCSB.Experiments were performed to study the effects of temperature and carbon to oxygen(C/O_(Coal))ratio on self-reduction of CCSB.At 1 400 and 1 450℃,volatile matter in coal used for experiment could take the place of about 40% of fixed carbon in coal.Under the present experimental conditions,reduction product of chromium appears as FeCr_2O_4,Cr_2O_3,Cr_7C_3,and[Cr]in turn during reduction.To evaluate the formation of metal nuggets in self-reduction process of CCSB,metal nuggets containing chromium and nickel were observed in outside of reduction products under various conditions,and thermodynamic equilibrium calculation was carried out for possible products and formation of molten metal by fixed carbon.SEM and EDS analyses were made for metal nugget and slag in reduced product.The results reveal that it is reasonable to achieve the metal nuggets at 1 450 ℃,0.8 of C/OCoalratio and 20 min of reduction time.The nugget formation can indicate one innovative process for comprehensive utilization of stainless steel dust.Sok-chol RI Man-sheng CHU Shuang-yin CHEN Zheng-gen LIU Hun HONG 2016Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2016,23,4:6

7Ultrafast photonic PCR显示文摘Nucleic acid amplification and quantification via polymerase chain reaction(PCR)is one of the most sensitive and powerful tools for clinical laboratories,precision medicine,personalized medicine,agricultural science,forensic science and environmental science.Ultrafast multiplex PCR,characterized by low power consumption,compact size and simple operation,is ideal for timely diagnosis at the point-of-care(POC).Although several fast/ultrafast PCR methods have been proposed,the use of a simple and robust PCR thermal cycler remains challenging for POC testing.Here,we present an ultrafast photonic PCR method using plasmonic photothermal light-to-heat conversion via photon–electron–phonon coupling.We demonstrate an efficient photonic heat converter using a thin gold(Au)film due to its plasmon-assisted high optical absorption(approximately 65%at 450 nm,the peak wavelength of heat source light-emitting diodes(LEDs)).The plasmon-excited Au film is capable of rapidly heating the surrounding solution to over 150℃ within 3 min.Using this method,ultrafast thermal cycling(30 cycles;heating and cooling rate of 12.7960.93℃ s^(-1) and 6.660.29℃ s^(-1),respectively)from 55℃(temperature of annealing)to 95℃(temperature of denaturation)is accomplished within 5 min.Using photonic PCR thermal cycles,we demonstrate here successful nucleic acid(λ-DNA)amplification.Our simple,robust and low cost approach to ultrafast PCR using an efficient photonic-based heating procedure could be generally integrated into a variety of devices or procedures,including on-chip thermal lysis and heating for isothermal amplifications.Jun Ho Son Byungrae Cho SoonGweon Hong Sang Hun Lee Ori Hoxha Amanda J Haack Luke P Lee 2015Light(Science & Applications)2015,4,1:2
8Comparative clinical study of conjunctival toxicities of newer generation fluoroquinolones without the influence of preservatives显示文摘AIM: To compare the conjunctival epithelial toxicities of three newer-generation fluoroquinolones without preservatives.·METHODS: In a prospective, randomized, double blind comparative study, 47 eyes of 47 patients with a primary pterygium were enrolled, and divided randomly into three groups(levofloxacin 0.5%, gatifloxacin 0.3%, and moxifloxacin 0.5%). After pterygium surgery with the same conjunctival autograft technique, each patient maintained a regimen with a randomly assigned fluoroquinolone eye drop. Patients were examined every other day after surgery until the epithelium had completely healed. Photos were taken and used to measure the area of residual epithelial defects.Conjunctival healing time and speed(initial defect area/healing time(mm^2/d) compared in each group using Kruskal-Wallis tests.· RESULTS: There were no significant differences in mean age, gender, and conjunctival defect size of the donor site between these groups. However, the mean of conjunctival healing time and speed were statistically different in each group. The mean of conjunctival epithelial healing time was 8.93 ±2.69d(levofloxacin group), 10.31±2.96d(gatifloxacin group), and 13.50±4.10d(moxifloxacin group), P =0.006. The mean conjuctival epithelial healing speed was 6.18±1.39 mm^2/d(levofloxacin group), 5.52 ±1.68 mm^2/d(gatifloxacin group), and 4.40 ±1.30 mm^2/d(moxifloxacin group), P =0.003.·CONCLUSION: Without the influence of preservatives,levofloxacin and gatifloxacin might be less toxic to the regeneration of conjunctival epithelial cells and cause a faster conjunctival wound healing relative to moxifloxacin.Han Sang Park Jun Hun Lee Hong Kyun Kim 2015International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2015,8,6:2

10Enzyme-amplified SERS immunoassay with Ag-Au bimetallic SERS hot spots显示文摘Surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)enables rapid detection of single molecules with high specificity.However,quantitative and sensitive SERS analysis has been a challenge due to the lack of reliable SERS-active materials.In this study,we developed a quantitative SERS-based immunoassay using enzyme-guided Ag growth on Raman labeling compound(RLC)-immobilized gold nanoparticle(Au NP)-assembled silica NPs(SiO2@Au-RLC@Ag).The enzyme amplified Ag+reduction as well as Ag growth on the RLC-immobilized Au NP-assembled silica NPs(SiO2@Au-RLC),which resulted in a significant increase in SERS signal.In the presence of target antigens such as immunoglobulinG(IgG)or prostate-specific antigen(PSA),Ab1-Antigen-Ab2 immune complex with alkaline phosphatase triggered an enzyme-catalyzed reaction to convert 2-phospho-L-ascorbic acid(2-phospho-L-AA)to ascorbic acid(AA).As produced AA reduced Ag+to Ag,forming an Ag hot spot on the surface of SiO2@Au-RLC,which enhanced the SERS signal of SiO2@Au-RLC@Ag in a solution with a target antigen concentration.The plasmonic immunoassay for IgG detection showed a high linearity of SERS intensity in the range of 0.6 to 9.0 ng/mL with a detection limit(LOD)of 0.09 ng/mL,while an LOD of 0.006 ng/mL was obtained for PSA.The results indicate that the sensitivity of our novel SERS-based immunoassay is higher than that of conventional enzyme-based colorimetric immunoassays.Xuan-Hung Pham Eunil Hahm Tae Han Kim Hyung-Mo Kim Sang Hun Lee Sang Chul Lee Homan Kang Ho-Young Lee Dae Hong Jeong Hak Soo Choi Bong-Hyun Jun 2020Nano Research2020,13,12:2
