| 1 | Distribution and assessment of heavy metals in the surface sediment of Yellow River, China显示文摘Large amounts of heavy metals discharged by industrial cities that are located along the middle reach of Yellow River, China have detrimental impacts on both the ecological environment and human health. In this study, fourteen surface sediment samples were taken in the middle reach of the Yellow River. Contents of Zn, Pb, Ni, Cu, Cr, Cd, As were measured, and the pollution status was assessed using three widely used pollution assessment methods, including the single factor index method, Nemerow pollution index method and potential ecological risk index. The concentrations of the studied heavy metals followed the order: Zn > Cr > Cu > Ni > Pb > As > Cd. Nearly 50% of sites had Cu and Cr accumulation. The concentration of Cu at the Yiluo River exceeded the secondary standard value of the Environmental quality standard for soils. Comparison of heavy metal concentrations between this study and other selected rivers indicated that Cu and Cr may be the major pollutants in our case. The single factor index indicated that many samples were at high levels of pollution for Cu and Cd; the Nemerow pollution index indicated that the Yihe River, Luohe River, Yiluo River and Huayuankou were polluted. | 2 | Synthetic hexaploid wheat and its utilization for wheat genetic improvement in China显示文摘Synthetic hexaploid wheat (Triticum turgidum × Aegilops tauschii) was created to explore for novel genes from T. turgidum and Ae. tauschii that can be used for common wheat improvement. In the present paper, research advances on the utilization of synthetic hexaploid wheat for wheat genetic improvement in China are reviewed. Over 200 synthetic hexaploid wheat (SHW) accessions from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) were introduced into China since 1995. Four cultivars derived from these, Chuanmai 38, Chuanmai 42, Chuanmai 43 and Chuanmai 47, have been released in China. Of these, Chuanmai 42, with large kernels and resistance to stripe rust, had the highest average yield (> 6 t/ha) among all cultivars over two years in Sichuan provincial yield trials, outyielding the commercial check cultivar Chuanmai 107 by 22.7%. Meanwhile, by either artificial chromosome doubling via colchicine treatment or spontaneous chromosome doubling via a union of unreduced gametes (2n) from T. turgidum-Ae. tauschii hybrids, new SHW lines were produced in China. Mitotic-like meiosis might be the cytological mechanism of spontaneous chromosome doubling. | 3 | Strengthening FCC-CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys by Mo addition显示文摘In order to strengthen the face-centered-cubic(FCC) type CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys(HEAs), different contents of Mo(0–16 at.%, similarly hereinafter) were alloyed. Phase evolution, microstructure,mechanical properties and related mechanism of these HEAs were systematically studied. The results show that sigma phase is appeared with addition of Mo, and the volume fraction of it increases gradually from 0 to 66% with increasing Mo content. It is found that Mo is enriched in sigma phase, which indicates that Mo element is beneficial to form sigma phase. Compressive testing shows that the yield strength of the alloys increases gradually from 216 to 765 MPa, while the fracture strain decreases from 50%(no fracture) to 19% with increasing of Mo. The alloy exhibits the best compressive performance when Mo content reaches 11%, the yield strength, fracture strength and fracture strain are 547 MPa, 2672 MPa and44% respectively. | 6 | Molecular epidemiology demonstrates that imported and local strains circulated during the 2014 dengue outbreak in Guangzhou, China显示文摘The dengue virus(DENV) is a vital global public health issue. The 2014 dengue epidemic in Guangzhou, China, caused approximately 40,000 cases of infection and five deaths. We carried out a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying the transmission sources in this dengue epidemic. To analyze the phylogenetics of the 2014 dengue strains, the envelope(E) gene sequences from 17 viral strains isolated from 168 dengue patient serum samples were sequenced and a phylogenetic tree was reconstructed. All 17 strains were serotype Ⅰ strains, including 8genotype Ⅰ and 9 genotype V strains. Additionally, 6 genotype Ⅰ strains that were probably introduced to China from Thailand before 2009 were widely transmitted in the 2013 and 2014 epidemics, and they continued to circulate until 2015, with one affinis strain being found in Singapore. The other 2 genotype Ⅰ strains were introduced from the Malaya Peninsula in 2014. The transmission source of the 9 genotype Ⅴ strains was from Malaysia in 2014. DENVs of different serotypes and genotypes co-circulated in the 2014 dengue outbreak in Guangzhou. | 9 | Breast cancer stem-like cells can promote metastasis by activating platelets and down-regulating antitumor activity of natural killer cells显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate whether cancer stem cells(CSCs) more efficiently activating platelets and evading immune surveillance than non-CSCs thus promoting metastasis.METHODS:We enriched and identified sphereforming cells(SFCs) and coincubated washed platelets with several platelet activators including collagen,4T1 and SFCs.Platelet-coating tumor cells,platelet activation and TGF-β1 release were analyzed.Then natural kell cells(NK) were incubated with supernatants of different activated platelet samples what we called sample release(SR).The degranulation assay and NKG2 D expression on NK cells were conducted by flow cytometry.Finally tissue factor(TF) expression of SFCs or 4T1 were evaluated by western blot.RESULTS:Breast cancer cell line 4T1 could form spheres in serum-free medium at low adherence.Sphere-forming cells expressed high levels of the CD24-/lowCD44 + stem cell phenotype.Both sphere-forming cells or 4T1 were coated with abundant platelets while sphere-forming cells induced significantly higher expression of platelet activating receptor CD62 p than 4T1 did(P < 0.01).And sphere-forming cells induced platelets to produce more TGF-β1 than 4T1 did(P < 0.01).Furthermore,sample releases induced by sphere-forming cells caused more vigorous inhibition of NK cells antitumor reactivity(P < 0.05) and reduced NKG2 D expression(P < 0.01).The final results showed that sphere-forming cells expressed higher levels of TF than 4T1(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:Our findings indicate that CSCs could efficiently activate platelets,induce platelets to secrete more TGF-β1,decrease NKG2 D expression and inhibit antitumor activity of NK cell,compared with 4T1.And higher levels of TF expression of CSCs may account for this correlation of CSCs and platelets. | Wang Shuo Zhang Ying Cong Weihong Liu Jie Zhang Yuren Fan Huiting XuYonggang Lin Hongsheng | 2016 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2016,36,4: | 5 |
| 10 | Spatial distribution of polychlorinated biphenyls in soil around a municipal solid waste incinerator显示文摘The impact of a typical municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) on polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) concentrations in the surrounding soil was studied. Six stack gas samples were taken from the MSWI and 21 soil samples were collected from sampling sites between 300 and 1700 m from the MSWI stack. The total (∑PCB) concentrations of dioxin-like (dl) PCBs and indicator PCBs in the stack gas samples were between 3.41 and 34.3 ng/m3, and the corresponding toxic equivalents (TEQs) ranged from 4.45 to 66.9 pg WHO-TEQ/m3, with a mean of 28.6 pg WHO-TEQ/m3. A total of 2.43 g WHO-TEQ of PCBs per year was calculated to be released into the environment from MSWIs in China. The ∑PCB concentrations in the soil samples ranged from 28.0 to 264.4 pg/g, with mean and median values of 127.6 and 127.7 pg/g, respectively, while the TEQ values were between 0.020 and 0.18 pg WHO-TEQ/g, with mean and median values of 0.074 and 0.062 pg WHO-TEQ/g, respectively. Comparing this study with other studies performed around the world suggest that PCB emission from incinerators has a critical influence on PCB concentrations in the surrounding soil. An exponential function equation is proposed, which indicates a clear decline in ∑PCB concentrations with increasing distance from the stack. | 13 | Optimal bulk-heterojunction morphology enabled by fibril network strategy for high-performance organic solar cells显示文摘A bicontinuous network formed spontaneously upon film preparation is highly desirable for bulk-heterojunction(BHJ) organic solar cells(OSCs). Many donor-acceptor(D-A) type conjugated polymers can self-assemble into polymer fibrils in the solid state and such fibril-assembly can construct the morphological framework by forming a network structure, inducing the formation of ideal BHJ morphology. Our recent works have revealed that the fibril network strategy(FNS) can control the blend morphology in fullerene, non-fullerene and ternary OSCs. It has been shown that the formation of fibril network can optimize phase separation scale and ensure efficient exciton dissociation and charge carriers transport, thus leading to impressive power conversion efficiencies(PCEs) and high fill factor(FF) values. | 14 | Lacustrine Shale Oil Resource Potential of Es3L Sub-Member of Bonan Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, Eastern China显示文摘Following shale gas, shale oil has become another highlight in unconventional hydrocarbon exploration and development. A large amount of shale oil has been produced from a host of marine shale in North America in recent years. In China, lacustrine shale, as the main source rock of conventional oil and gas, should also have abundant oil retained in place. In this study, geochemical and geologic characteristics of lacustrine shale from Es_3~L sub-member in Bonan sag were characterized by using total organic carbon(TOC), Rock-Eval pyrolysis, X-ray diffraction, and ?log R method. The results show that the Es_3~L sub-member shale have TOC contents ranging from 0.5 wt.% to 9.3 wt.%, with an average of 2.9 wt.%. The organic matter is predominantly Type I kerogen, with minor amounts of Type II1 kerogen. The temperature of maximum yield of pyrolysate(Tmax) values ranges from 424 to 447 °C, with an average of 440 °C, and vitrinite reflectance(Ro%) ranges from 0.7% to 0.9%, indicating most of shales are thermally mature. The dominant minerals of Es_3~L shale in Bonan sag are carbonates(including calcite and dolomite), averaging 51.82 wt.%, and the second minerals are clay(mostly are montmorillonite-illite-mixed layer and illite) and quartz, averaging about 18 wt.%. Finally, its shale oil resources were evaluated by using the volumetric method, and the evaluation result shows that the shale oil resource is up to 5.94 billion tons, and mostly Class I resource. | 15 | Extraction and back-extraction behaviors of 14 rare earth elements from sulfuric acid medium by TODGA显示文摘The unique physical and chemical properties of rare earth elements lay the foundation for their extensive application. N,N,N',N' Tetra-octyl-3-oxopentanediamide(TODGA) is excellent in its ability of extracting rare earth elements and it is favored for green initiative. In this paper, the extraction and back-extraction of14 rare earth elements by TODGA were studied. Experiments show that in conditions of 6 mol/L sulfuric acid, the extraction temperature of 25 ℃,the phase ratio of 1:1 and 0.04 mol/LTODGA(aviation kerosene as the diluent), the extraction rates of 14 rare earth elements including lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium,neodymium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, and yttrium were 99.00%-99.73%. Mixed with hydrochloric acid and nitric acid(HCl 3.5 mol/L, HNO_30.5 mol/L), the recoveries of the 14 rare earth elements are 91.52%-99.91% when the extraction temperature is 25 ℃ and the ratio is 1:1. The following application is based on the optimum conditions above with practical samples(from the roasting production line of China North Rare Earth High-tech Company Limited) for extraction and back-extraction experiments. | 16 | Effects of Jiazhu decoction in combination with cyclophosphamide on breast cancer in mice显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic effects of Jiazhu decoction (JZD) in combination with cyclophosphamide (CTX) on the growth of breast cancer in mice and to explore the possible molecular mechanisms of action. METHODS: BALB/c mice were randomly divided into four groups of 10 (untreated model group, JZD group, CTX group, and JZD + CTX group) and subcutaneously injected with 4T1 mouse breast cancer cells. Tumors were allowed to establish for ~7 d before initiation of treatment with CTX (100 mg/kg every week by intraperitoneal injection) and/or JZD (0.015 mL of 1.65 g/mL crude drug, administered daily by gavage). The model group received equivalent volumes of vehicle on the same schedules. Tumor volumes were measured every 3 d. Mice were sacrificed after 3 weeks of treatment, and tumors were excised and subjected to RT-qPCR and western blot analysis to evaluate expression of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway components β-catenin, c-Myc, and cyclin D1 at the mRNA and protein levels. RESULTS: The mean tumor volume was smaller and the growth rate was slower in the CTX and JZD + CTX groups compared with the model group (P < 0.05), and in the JZD + CTX group compared with the CTX and JZD groups (P < 0.05). Tumor growth was inhibited by 35.4% and 48.1% by CTX and JZD + CTX treatment, respectively (P < 0.001). The expression of β-catenin, c-Myc, and cyclin D1 mRNA and protein in tumors was significantly lower in mice treated with JZD or JZD + CTX compared with the untreated mice (P < 0.05), and was significantly lower in mice treated with JZD + CTX compared with either JZD or CTX alone (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: JZD inhibited the growth of mouse breast cancer cells in vivo, possibly by reducing the expression of β-catenin, c-Myc, and cyclin D1. | 18 | Paving the road toward the use ofβ-Fe2O3 in solar water splitting:Raman identification,phase transformation and strategies for phase stabilization显示文摘Althoughβ-Fe2O3 has a high theoretical solar-to-hydrogen efficiency because of its narrow band gap,the study ofβ-Fe2O3 photoanodes for water splitting is elusive as a result of their metastable nature.Raman identification ofβ-Fe2O3 is theoretically and experimentally investigated in this study for the first time,thus clarifying the debate about its Raman spectrum in the literature.Phase transformation ofβ-Fe2O3 toα-Fe2O3 was found to potentially take place under laser and electron irradiation as well as annealing.Herein,phase transformation ofβ-Fe2O3 toα-Fe2O3 was inhibited by introduction of Zr doping,andβ-Fe2O3 was found to withstand a higher annealing temperature without any phase transformation.The solar water splitting photocurrent of the Zr-dopedβ-Fe2O3 photoanode was increased by 500%compared to that of the pureβ-Fe2O3 photoanode.Additionally,Zr-dopedβ-Fe2O3 exhibited very good stability during the process of solar water splitting.These results indicate that by improving its thermal stability,metastableβ-Fe2O3 film is a promising photoanode for solar water splitting. | Ningsi Zhang Xin Wang Jianyong Feng Huiting Huang Yongsheng Guo Zhaosheng Li Zhigang Zou | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,6: | 3 |
| 19 | Exploring facile strategies for high-oxidation-state metal nitride synthesis: carbonate-assisted one-step synthesis of Ta_3N_5 films for solar water splitting显示文摘Metal nitrides are widely studied due to their outstanding physical properties, including high hardness,high thermal and chemical stability, low electrical resistivity etc. Generally, metal nitrides can be obtained from the direct reaction of metal and ammonia/nitrogen. However, some of the metal nitrides,such as Ta_3N_5, cannot be synthesized by direct nitridation of metals. To achieve Ta_3N_5, high-oxidationstate Ta precursors like Ta_2O_5, NaTaO_3, TaS_3, K_6Ta_(10.8)O_(30), Ta(N(CH_3)_2)_5 and TaCl_5 have to be employed,which is a time-consuming and laborious process with the possibility of introducing undesirable impurities. Here taking Ta_3N_5 as an example, a facile carbonate-assisted one-step nitridation method is proposed, which enables the direct synthesis of high-oxidation-state metal nitride films from metal precursors under ammonia flow. The mechanism of the nitridation process has been studied, which carbon dioxide released from carbonates decomposition reacts with metallic Ta and assists the one-step conversion of metallic Ta to Ta_3N_5. The as-prepared Ta_3N_5 film, after modified with NiFe layered double hydroxide, exhibits promising water splitting performance and stability. | 20 | Biodegradable nanocarriers for small interfering ribonucleic acid (siRNA) co-delivery strategy increase the chemosensitivity of pancreatic cancer cells to gemcitabine显示文摘Ribonucleic acid (RNA) interference (RNAi) therapies are promising cancertreatment modalities that can specifically target abnormal proto-oncogenes, thusimproving the therapeutic effect. For the treatment of pancreatic cancer, targetingone mutant proto-oncogene by RNAi usually does not yield the desired therapeuticefficiency. Both K-ras gene mutations and Notch1 overexpression are commonsymptoms in pancreatic cancer patients, and play a crucial role in pancreaticcancer cell drug resistance. In this study, biodegradable charged polyester-basedvectors (BCPVs) were synthesized for the co-delivery of K-ras and Notch1 smallinterfering ribonucleic acid (siRNA) into MiaPaCa-2 cells (pancreatic cancercell line) to overcome drug resistance to gemcitabine (GEM), a first-line chem-otherapeutic drug used in the clinic. BCPVs could effectively absorb negative siRNAto form a capsule-like structure, prevent siRNA from nuclease digestion in theserum, and promote effective siRNA cell internalization and endosomal escape.Through K-ras and Notch1 gene silencing in MiaPaCa-2 cells, BCPV-siRNAKsiRNAN^tcm nanocomplexes effectively reversed the epithelia-mesenchymaltransition (EMT) in MiaPaCa-2 cells, thereby greatly enhancing the sensitivity ofMiaPaCa-2 cells to GEM. MiaPaCa-2 cell proliferation, migration, and invasionwere effectively inhibited, and cell apoptosis was also significantly enhanced bythe synergistic antitumor effect of BCPV-siRNAK siRNAN^t~l nanocomplexesand GEM. These results suggest that this combination RNAi therapy can be usedto improve cancer cell sensitivity to chemotherapeutic drugs.
