| 1 | Injectable hydrogels for cartilage and bone tissue engineering显示文摘Tissue engineering has become a promising strategy for repairing damaged cartilage and bone tissue. Among the scaffolds for tissue-engineering applications, injectable hydrogels have demonstrated great potential for use as three-dimensional cell culture scaffolds in cartilage and bone tissue engineering, owing to their high water content, similarity to the natural extracellular matrix(ECM), porous framework for cell transplantation and proliferation, minimal invasive properties, and ability to match irregular defects. In this review, we describe the selection of appropriate biomaterials and fabrication methods to prepare novel injectable hydrogels for cartilage and bone tissue engineering. In addition, the biology of cartilage and the bony ECM is also summarized. | 2 | A general end-to-end diagnosis framework for manufacturing systems显示文摘The manufacturing sector is envisioned to be heavily influenced by artificial-intelligence-based technologies with the extraordinary increases in computational power and data volumes. A central challenge in the manufacturing sector lies in the requirement of a general framework to ensure satisfied diagnosis and monitoring performances in different manufacturing applications. Here, we propose a general data-driven,end-to-end framework for the monitoring of manufacturing systems. This framework, derived from deep-learning techniques, evaluates fused sensory measurements to detect and even predict faults and wearing conditions. This work exploits the predictive power of deep learning to automatically extract hidden degradation features from noisy, time-course data. We have experimented the proposed framework on 10 representative data sets drawn from a wide variety of manufacturing applications. | 3 | Adjuvant sorafenib after heptectomy for Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer-stage C hepatocellular carcinoma patients显示文摘AIM: To investigate the efficacy and safety of adjuvant sorafenib after curative resection for patients with Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC)-stage C hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS: Thirty-four HCC patients, classified as BCLC-stage C, received adjuvant sorafenib for highrisk of tumor recurrence after curative hepatectomy at a tertiary care university hospital. The study group was compared with a case-matched control group of 68 patients who received curative hepatectomy for HCC during the study period in a 1:2 ratio.RESULTS: The tumor recurrence rate was markedly lower in the sorafenib group(15/34, 44.1%) than in the control group(51/68, 75%, P = 0.002). The median disease-free survival was 12 mo in the study group and 10 mo in the control group. Tumor number more than 3, macrovascular invasion, hilar lymph nodes metastasis, and treatment with sorafenib were significant factors of disease-free survival by univariate analysis. Tumor number more than 3 and treatment with sorafenib were significant risk factors of diseasefree survival by multivariate analysis in the Cox proportional hazards model. The disease-free survival and cumulative overall survival in the study group were significantly better than in the control group(P = 0.034 and 0.016, respectively). | 5 | Anti-fibrotic Effects of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Ligustrazine Injection on LX-2 Cells Involved with Increased N-myc Downstream-Regulated Gene 2 Expression显示文摘Objective: To investigate the effects of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Ligustrazine Injection(SML) on proliferation and apoptosis of human hepatic stellate cell LX-2 and the expression of N-myc downstreamregulated gene 2(NDRG2, a tumor suppressor gene). Methods: HSCs from the LX-2 cell line were cultured in vitro. The proliferative state of different initial LX-2 cell numbers was measured using a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) colorimetric assay. LX-2 cells were plated in 96-well plates at an approximate density of 2.50×10~4 cells/mL and cultured for 24 h followed by the application of different concentrations of SML(1, 2, 4 and 8 μL/mL). Cell proliferation was measured using the MTT assay at 24 and 48 h. Apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry at 24 h. LX-2 cells were treated with different concentrations of SML and extracted with protein lysis buffer. The levels of NDRG2 and β-catenin were measured by Western blot. Results: With the exception of the 1 and 2 μL/mL concentrations, 4 and 8 μL/mL SML inhibited cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner at 24 and 48 h(P<0.05). With the exception of the 1 and 2 μL/mL concentrations, the NDRG2 expression level was greatly increased in a concentration-dependent manner. However, the level of β-catenin was unaffected. | 11 | High quality reference genome of drumstick tree(Moringa oleifera Lam.), a potential perennial crop显示文摘The drumstick tree(Moringa oleifera Lam.) is a perennial crop that has gained popularity in certain developing countries for its high-nutrition content and adaptability to arid and semi-arid environments. Here we report a high-quality draft genome sequence of M. oleifera. This assembly represents 91.78% of the estimated genome size and contains 19,465 protein-coding genes. Comparative genomic analysis between M. oleifera and related woody plant genomes helps clarify the general evolution of this species, while the identification of several species-specific gene families and positively selected genes in M. oleifera may help identify genes related to M. oleifera's high protein content, fast-growth, heat and stress tolerance. | 12 | Potential of multi-pass ECAP on improving the mechanical properties of a high-calcium-content Mg-Al-Ca-Mn alloy显示文摘In this study,the multi-pass equal channel angular pressing(ECAP)was employed on a high-calcium-content Mg-Al-Ca-Mn alloy to tailor its microstructure and mechanical properties.The obtained results showed that the network-shaped Mg2Ca and(Mg,Al)2Ca eutectic compounds in as-cast alloy were gradually crushed into ultra-fine particles after ECAP,which exhibited a bimodal particle size distribution and most aggregated at original grain boundaries.Dynamic recrystallization(DRX)of α-Mg occurred during hot deformation via a particle stimulated mechanism,and the almost complete DRX with an average grain size around 1.5μm was obtained after 12p-ECAP.Moreover,abundant nano-sized acicular and spherical precipitates were dynamically precipitated withinα-Mg grains during ECAP.Tensile test results indicated that the maximum strength and ductility were acquired for 12p-ECAP alloy with ultimate tensile strength of 372 MPa and fracture elongation of 8%.The enhanced strength of the alloy could be ascribed to fine DRX grains,ultra-fine Ca-containing particles and dynamically precipitated nano-precipitates,while the improved ductility was mainly due to the refined and homogeneous microstructure,and weak texture with high average Schmid factors. | He Huang Huan Liu Ce Wang Jiapeng Sun Jing Bai Feng Xue Jinghua Jiang Aibin Ma | 2019 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,4: | 10 |

| 16 | Glycated Haemoglobin in Diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus and Pre-diabetes among Middle-aged and Elderly Population:Shanghai Changfeng Study显示文摘Objective To investigate the optimal glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) cut off points and evaluate the impact of HbA1c on diabetes and pre-diabetes in middle-aged and elderly population. Methods Subjects were recruited from Shanghai Changfeng Study. A total of 1 973 community-based participants (age≥45) without known diabetes underwent oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) by using a 75-g oral glucose load and HbA1c was measured by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Subjects were classified as normal glucose tolerance (NGT), pre-diabetes(impaired glucose regulation, IGR) and new diagnosed diabetes (NDD) per 1999 WHO criteria. Two tests are compared with receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). Results Among 1973 subjects, 271 (13.7%) were diagnosed as NDD and 474 (24.0%) as IGR by using OGTT. HbA1c was 5.7%±0.7% in this population. Use of 6.5% as the HbA1C cutoff point has sensitivity of 38.7% and specificity of 98.5%. We recommend 6.0% as a better cutoff value for diagnosis of diabetes in this population (AUC 0.829, 95% CI 0.798-0.860, P<0.001) with its sensitivity and specificity as 66.1% and 86.8%. For IGR, the results showed low sensitivity (44.9%) and specificity (66.7%) with an AUC of 0.571 for HbA1c when 5.8% was used as the cutoff point. Participants detected with HbA1c≥6.0% were associated with nearly the same metabolic characteristics, including body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, lipid profile and urine albumin-creatinine ratio (uACR) compared with diabetic subjects detected by OGTT. | 17 | Improving toughness of a Mg_(2)Ca-containing Mg-Al-Ca-Mn alloy via refinement and uniform dispersion of Mg_(2)Ca particles显示文摘In this work,two wrought Mg-3.66Al-4.25Ca-0.43 Mn(wt%)alloys with different morphology and distribution of Mg_(2)Ca particles were fabricated by hot extrusion and multi-pass(32)equal channel angular pressing(ECAP).The as-extruded alloy exhibits a banded microstructure with alternately arranged Mg_(2)Ca particle bands,fine α-Mg dynamically recrystallized(DRX)grain bands,and coarse α-Mg deformed grain bands.The Mg_(2)Ca bands are composed of broken Mg_(2)Ca particles which are aggregated and aligned along extrusion direction.The microstructure of ECAP alloy contains complete α-Mg DRX grains and refined Mg_(2)Ca particles which are dispersedly distributed at grain boundaries.Tensile test results show that the as-extruded alloy possesses high ultimate tensile strength(UTS)of 420 MPa and poor fracture elongation of 7%,while the ECAP alloy exhibits improved toughness with UTS of 347 MPa and fraction elongation of 16%.The higher strength of as-extruded alloy is mainly ascribed to the contribution of coarse deformed grains with strong texture,and its poor toughness is resulted from the formation of Mg_(2)Ca bands within which microcracks could form and extend rapidly.On the contrary,the refined and dispersedly distributed Mg_(2)Ca particles are effective to retard crack initiation and impede crack propagation,thereby enhancing the toughness of ECAP alloy significantly. | Huan Liu Chao Sun Ce Wang Yuhua Li Jing Bai Feng Xue Aibin Ma Jinghua Jiang | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,59,24: | 7 |
| 18 | Effects of artificially cultivated biological soil crusts on soil nutrients and biological activities in the Loess Plateau显示文摘Biological soil crusts(BSCs) play an important role in the early succession of vegetation restoration in the Loess Plateau, China. To evaluate the effects of artificially cultivated BSCs on the soil surface micro-environment, we obtained natural moss crusts and moss-lichen crusts from the Loess Plateau of Shaanxi province, and subsequently inoculated and cultivated on horizontal and sloping surfaces of loess soil in a greenhouse. The chemical and biological properties of the subsoil under cultivated BSCs were determined after 10 weeks of cultivation. The results indicated that BSCs coverage was more than 65% after 10 weeks of cultivation. Moss crust coverage reached 40% after 5 weeks of cultivation. Compared with the control, soil organic matter and available nitrogen contents in moss crust with the horizontal treatments increased by 100.87% and 48.23%, respectively; increased by 67.56% and 52.17% with the sloping treatments, respectively; they also increased in moss-lichen crust with horizontal and sloping treatments, but there was no significant difference. Available phosphorus in cultivated BSCs was reduced, soil pH was lower and cationic exchange capacity was higher in cultivated BSCs than in the control. Alkaline phosphatase, urease and invertase activities were increased in artificially cultivated BSCs, and alkaline phosphatase activity in all cultivated BSCs was obviously higher than that in the control. Numbers of soil bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes were increased in the formation process of cultivated BSCs. | 19 | Fedora-type magnetic compression anastomosis device for intestinal anastomosis显示文摘BACKGROUND Although previous studies have confirmed the feasibility of magnetic compression anastomosis(MCA),there is still a risk of long-term anastomotic stenosis.For traditional MCA devices,a large device is associated with great pressure,and eventually increased leakage.AIM To develop a novel MCA device to simultaneously meet the requirements of pressure and size.METHODS Traditional nummular MCA devices of all possible sizes were used to conduct ileac anastomosis in rats.The mean(±SD)circumference of the ileum was 13.34±0.12 mm.Based on short-and long-term follow-up results,we determined the appropriate pressure range and minimum size.Thereafter,we introduced a novel“fedora-type”MCA device,which entailed the use of a nummular magnet with a larger sheet metal.RESULTS With traditional MCA devices,the anastomoses experienced stenosis and even closure during the long-term follow-up when the anastomat was smaller thanΦ5 mm.However,the risk of leakage increased when it was larger thanΦ4 mm.On comparison of the different designs,it was found that the“fedora-type”MCA device should be composed of aΦ4-mm nummular magnet with aΦ6-mm sheet metal.CONCLUSION The diameter of the MCA device should be greater than 120%of the enteric diameter.The novel“fedora-type”MCA device controls the pressure and optimizes the size. | Huan Chen Tao Ma Yue Wang Hao-Yang Zhu Zhe Feng Rong-Qian Wu Yi Lv Ding-Hui Dong | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,42: | 7 |
| 20 | Geochemical Characteristics of Selenium and Its Correlation to Other Elements and Minerals in Selenium-Enriched Rocks in Ziyang County,Shaanxi Province,China显示文摘Ziyang County, Shaanxi Province, China is a world known selenium(Se)-enriched area, and a severe selenosis incident was reported in Naore Village during the 1990 s. This study investigated the geochemical characteristics of Se and its fractions in Se-enriched rocks from Ziyang. Se distribution is uneven, ranging from 0.23 to 57.00 μg/g(17.29±15.52 μg/g). Se content is higher in slate than chert, and even lower in carbonate rocks. Cd, As and V are enriched but Pb is depleted in Se-enriched strata. Se has different correlations both with TS(total sulfur)(R^2=0.59 for chert) and TC(total carbon)(R^2=0.77 for slate, R^2=0.87 for carbonate). Se has significant positive correlations with V(r=0.65), As(r=0.485), Cd(r=0.459) and Pb(r=0.405). The Se level correlates with mineral content, positively with pyrite, chlorite and illite, negatively with albite. Se associated with sulfide/selenide and elemental Se are the predominant fractions of total recovered Se, suggesting that a reducing environment and the formation of sulfides were significant to Se deposition during its geochemical cycle.
