| 1 | Classification and 3-D distribution of upper layer water masses in the northern South China Sea显示文摘Using the fuzzy cluster analysis and the temperature-salinity(T-S) similarity number analysis of cruise conductivity-temperature-depth(CTD) data in the upper layer(0–300 m) of the northern South China Sea(NSCS), we classify the upper layer water of the NSCS into six water masses: diluted water(D), surface water(SS),the SCS subsurface water mass(U_S), the Pacific Ocean subsurface water mass(U_P), surface-subsurface mixed water(SU) and subsurface-intermediate mixed water(UI). A new stacked stereogram is used to illustrate the water mass distribution, and to examine the source and the distribution of U_P, combining with the sea surface height data and geostrophic current field. The results show that water mass U_P exists in all four seasons with the maximum range in spring and the minimum range in summer. In spring and winter, the U_P intrudes into the Luzon Strait and the southwest of Taiwan Island via the northern Luzon Strait in the form of nonlinear Rossby eddies, and forms a high temperature and high salinity zone east of the Dongsha Islands. In summer, the U_P is sporadically distributed in the study area. | 3 | Proper animal experimental designs for preclinical research of biomaterials for intervertebral disc regeneration显示文摘Low back pain is a vital musculoskeletal disease that impairs life quality,leads to disability and imposes heavy economic burden on the society,while it is greatly attributed to intervertebral disc degeneration(IDD).However,the existing treatments,such as medicines,chiropractic adjustments and surgery,cannot achieve ideal disc regeneration.Therefore,advanced bioactive therapies are implemented,including stem cells delivery,bioreagents administration,and implantation of biomaterials etc.Among these researches,few reported unsatisfying regenerative outcomes.However,these advanced therapies have barely achieved successful clinical translation.The main reason for the inconsistency between satisfying preclinical results and poor clinical translation may largely rely on the animal models that cannot actually simulate the human disc degeneration.The inappropriate animal model also leads to difficulties in comparing the efficacies among biomaterials in different reaches.Therefore,animal models that better simulate the clinical charateristics of human IDD should be acknowledged.In addition,in vivo regenerative outcomes should be carefully evaluated to obtain robust results.Nevertheless,many researches neglect certain critical characteristics,such as adhesive properties for biomaterials blocking annulus fibrosus defects and hyperalgesia that is closely related to the clinical manifestations,e.g,low back pain.Herein,in this review,we summarized the animal models established for IDD,and highlighted the proper models and parameters that may result in acknowledged IDD models.Then,we discussed the existing biomaterials for disc regeneration and the characteristics that should be considered for regenerating different parts of discs.Finally,well-established assays and parameters for in vivo disc regeneration are explored. | Yizhong Peng Xiangcheng Qing Hongyang Shu Shuo Tian Wenbo Yang Songfeng Chen Hui Lin Xiao Lv Lei Zhao Xi Chen Feifei Pu Donghua Huang Xu Cao Zengwu Shao | 2021 | Biomaterials Translational2021,2,2: | 2 |

| 9 | Surface currents measured by GPS drifters in Daya Bay and along the eastern Guangdong coast显示文摘GPS-based surface drifters were used to investigate the surface currents in Daya Bay and along the eastern Guangdong coast in China.Surface current vectors were measured based on the GPS location and corresponding time information sent by drifters through the mobile phone network.The analysis of data from 120 drifters,deployed in late spring 2018 in the case-study region,shows that the drifters are generally capable of capturing the surface(tidal and residual)currents.The drifter trajectories suggest an anticlockwise surface current inside Daya Bay and a north-eastward current along the eastern Guangdong coast,where the coastal current along the eastern Guangdong coast is faster than that inside Daya Bay.The surface currents in the investigated region follow an irregular semidiurnal cycle due to the influence of the tidal current,while the currents inside Daya Bay are strongly affected by the topography.According to the harmonic analysis,an irregular semidiurnal type of tidal current is evident at a study grid inside Daya Bay,with an Eulerian residual current speed of 9.0 cm/s and a direction of 276°.The Lagrangian residual current outside Daya Bay moves north-eastward with a mean speed of 22 cm/s along the eastern Guangdong coast,while the current inside Daya Bay moves northward to the bay head with a mean speed of about 8.0 cm/s,which agrees well with the one reported in other literatures. | Yang GAO Yongxiang HUANG Hongyang LIN Zhenyu SUN Jia ZHU Jianyu HU | 2020 | Frontiers of Earth Science2020,14,2: | 1 |
| 10 | Isotope effect of the phonons mean free path in graphene by micro-Raman measurement显示文摘The isotope labeled graphene was synthesized in the concentration of 13 C carbon atom in 1%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 99%. The isotope effect on the phonon behavior in graphene was investigated based on the micro-Raman analysis of 13 C isotope labeled graphene samples. We found that the phonon scattering is affected by the isotopic carbon atom as a point defect. Based on the experiment results, the Klemens-Callaway model and uncertainty principle were used to obtain the mean free path of the G and D phonons. | 16 | Analysis of temperature inversion in the Zhujiang River Estuaryin July 2015显示文摘This study investigates the temperature inversion phenomenon in the Zhujiang(Pearl) River Estuary(ZRE) using hydrological data collected in a summer cruise during July 6–17, 2015. The results suggest that temperature inversion occurred primarily near the salinity front, with an average temperature difference(ΔT) of 0.42°C between the inversion layer and the underlying water. The inversion layer was approximately 4 m thick on average, with an upper boundary at a depth of 1–6 m and a lower boundary at a depth of 3–10 m. Different mechanisms and dynamic processes were responsible for temperature inversion in different parts of the study area.(1) At the salinity front in the west of the ZRE, the measurements collected by CTD(conductivity,temperature, and depth) showed that the low-salinity water mass on the inner side of the front was approximately2°C cooler than the high-salinity water mass on the outer side. | 17 | Comparison of biochar properties from 5 kinds of halophyte produced by slow pyrolysis at 500℃显示文摘Glycophyte biomass-derived biochars are currently concerned in most studies.However,little attention is given to the char-acteristics of halophyte-derived biochars.In this study,five typical halophytes of euhalophytes(Suaeda altissima,Suaeda salsa,and Kalidium foliatum),recretohalophytes(Phragmites australis),and pseudohalophytes(Tamarix chinensis)which are widely distributed in the arid and semiarid regions of northwestern China were selected for producing biochars with a slow pyrolysis process at 500℃for 1 h.The harvested biochars were characterized in elemental content,pores,surface area,and surface charges,and then their potential value as a soil conditioner was evaluated.The results showed that the halophyte-derived biochars had variable ash and Na+contents,ranging from 7.26 to 23.64%and 1.06 to 33.93 g kg^(−1)respectively.The EC value of the biochars ranged from 1.76 to 23.45 mS cm^(−1).The biochar derived from Suaeda altissima had a very low specific surface area(SSA),3.50 m^(2)g^(−1),while that derived from Phragmites australis(BPA)had a very high SSA,344.02 m^(2)g^(−1).All the biochars carried both positive and negative charges.Kalidium foliatum biochar(BKF)possessed more nega-tive charges,while Suaeda altissima biochar(BSA)contained more positive charges.In general,the halophyte biochars had a higher ash content and lower point of zero net charge(PZNC)value,compared with the biochars derived from glycophytes,which would imply their higher potential value as an acidic soil conditioner. | Hongyang Xiao Qimei Lin Guitong Li Xiaorong Zhao Jianzhong Li Erzhen Li | 2022 | Biochar2022,4,1: | 0 |

| 20 | AIFM1 variants associated with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder cause apoptosis due to impaired apoptosis-inducing factor dimerization显示文摘Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder(ANSD)represents a variety of sensorineural deafness conditions characterized by abnormal inner hair cells and/or auditory nerve function,but with the preservation of outer hair cell function.ANSD represents up to 15%of individuals with hearing impairments.Through mutation screening,bioinformatic analysis and expression studies,we have previously identified several apoptosis-inducing factor(AIF)mitochondria-associated 1(AIFM1)variants in ANSD families and in some other sporadic cases.Here,to elucidate the pathogenic mechanisms underlying each AIFM1 variant,we generated AIF-null cells using the clustered regularly interspersed short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9(Cas9)system and constructed AIF-wild type(WT)and AIF-mutant(mut)(p.T260A,p.R422W,and p.R451Q)stable transfection cell lines.We then analyzed AIF structure,coenzyme-binding affinity,apoptosis,and other aspects.Results revealed that these variants resulted in impaired dimerization,compromising AIF function.The reduction reaction of AIF variants had proceeded slower than that of AIF-WT.The average levels of AIF dimerization in AIF variant cells were only 34.5%-49.7%of that of AIF-WT cells,resulting in caspase-independent apoptosis.The average percentage of apoptotic cells in the variants was 12.3%-17.9%,which was significantly higher than that(6.9%-7.4%)in controls.However,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NADH)treatment promoted the reduction of apoptosis by rescuing AIF dimerization in AIF variant cells.Our findings show that the impairment of AIF dimerization by AIFM1 variants causes apoptosis contributing to ANSD,and introduce NADH as a potential drug for ANSD treatment.Our results help elucidate the mechanisms of ANSD and may lead to the provision of novel therapies. | YUE QIU HONGYANG WANG HUAYE PAN JING GUAN LEI YAN MINGJIE FAN HUI ZHOU XUANHAO ZHOU KAIWEN WU ZEXIAO JIA QIANQIAN ZHUANG ZHAOYING LEI MENGYAO LI XUE DING AIFU LIN YONG FU DONG ZHANG QIUJU WANG QINGFENG YAN | 2023 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2023,24,2: | 0 |
