| 2 | PM_(2.5)-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in Beijing:Seasonal variations,sources,and risk assessment显示文摘Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) have been of health concern due to its carcinogenesis and mutagenesis. In this study, we aimed to assess the variations, sources, and lifetime excessive cancer risk(ECR) attributable to PAHs bound to ambient particulate matters with aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 μm(PM_(2.5)) in metropolitan Beijing, China. We collected24-hour integrated PM_(2.5) samples on daily basis between November 2014 and June 2015 across both central heating(cold months) and non-heating(warm months) seasons, and further analyzed the PAH components in these daily PM_(2.5) samples. Our results showed that total concentrations of PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs varied between(88.6 ± 75.4) ng/m^3 in the cold months and(11.0 ± 5.9) ng/m^3 in the warm months. Benzo[a]pyrene(Ba P), the carcinogenic marker of PAHs,averaged at 5.7 and 0.4 ng/m^3 in the cold and warm months, respectively. Source apportionment analyses illustrated that gasoline, biomass burning, diesel, coal combustion and cooking were the major contributors, accounting for 12.9%, 17.8%, 24.7%, 24.3% and 6.4% of PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs, respectively. The BaP equivalent lifetime ECR from inhalation of PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs was 16.2 cases per million habitants. Our results suggested that ambient particulate reduction from energy reconstruction and adaption of clean fuels would result in reductions PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs and its associated cancer risks. | 3 | 2018 update of expert consensus statement on antiplatelet therapy in East Asian patients with ACS or undergoing PCI显示文摘East Asians are the most populous race in the world and their health status is an important global issue.Compared with Caucasian populations, East Asian patients have a different benefit/risk ratio when using antithrombotic treatment. Despite this observation, treatment strategies in East Asian patients are mostly based on the American and European guidelines. Despite a lower platelet inhibitory response to clopidogrel, East Asian patients show a similar or even a lower rate of ischemic event occurrence and higher bleeding risk compared with Caucasian patients. For potent P2Y_(12) inhibitors(ticagrelor and prasugrel),East Asian patients have shown less favorable net clinical benefits compared with Caucasian patients,which may be related to differences in pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic profiles and therapeutic zone of antiplatelet effect. This updated consensus mainly focuses on state-of-the-art and current controversies in the East Asian population. | 4 | Application of fiber Bragg grating based strain sensor in pipeline vortex-induced vibration measurement显示文摘The vortex-induced vibrations(VIV)is an important topic of study in many different scientific and engineering fields.While VIV can be of benefit in some cases,oftentimes,it is an undesirable phenomenon that can be quite dangerous.In particular for offshore pipelines,VIV can lead to fatiguing of the pipe structure and can cause disastrous consequences if left unchecked.A number of different methods have been applied to the measurement of VIV,especially for the elongated,thin cylindrical structures.The use of fiber optic fiber Bragg gratings(FBGs)in particular has gained popularity over the recent years due to their distinct properties.However,FBGs are also very fragile and are susceptible to failure when placed in harsh environments without protection.In this paper,56 FBGs encapsulated in stainless steel tubes were applied to the measurement of VIV in a28-m model pipeline under controlled and uncontrolled conditions.Tests show that the encapsulated sensors possessed good sensitivity as well as fatigue life(>80000 cycles).The measurements from FBGs were also high enough to allow frequency domain analysis of the pipeline VIV under the two conditions.The authors conclude that the encapsulated FBGs are a viable tool for the study of VIV in pipeline structures. | REN Liang JIA ZiGuang HO Michael Siu Chun YI TingHua LI HongNan | 2014 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,9: | 9 |

| 7 | A cross-sectional study on compliance with topical glaucoma medication and its associated socioeconomic burden for a Chinese population显示文摘AIM: To estimate the overall drug compliance for local Chinese glaucoma patients on long-term topical treatment.METHODS: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study.Fifty-seven primary glaucoma patients from the subspecialty clinic of a publicly-funded tertiary care hospital in Hong Kong completed a questionnaire on compliance with topical glaucoma medication,attitude towards glaucoma and therapy and vision related quality of life.Noncompliance was defined as reporting missing more than or equal to 10% of the prescribed topical glaucoma medication during the 2wk immediately prior to the consultation.Relationships between noncompliance and demographics,attitude,disease and treatment status was studied.Cost was estimated with quality of life and direct medical cost involved with noncompliance.Multivariable logistic regression on noncompliance was performed on selected factors.RESULTS: Compliance was calculated as 75%(95% CI: 64%-87%) among 57 subjects(mean age 69 y,female 51%).No statistical significant relationship was established between noncompliance and any single factors or outcomes.Age(P=0.048) and forgetfulness(P=0.064) were found to be marginally significant predictive factors on noncompliance in multivariable logistic regression.Noncompliance might be related(P=0.130) to poorer self-rated vision-associated quality of life.The societal cost of noncompliance was estimated to be over 2510 life-years and US$ 3.7 million territory-wide.CONCLUSION: The compliance of Chinese glaucoma patients in Hong Kong is comparable to other parts in the world,and carries detrimental impacts on individual and societal levels.Age and forgetfulness are two possible independent predictors for noncompliance. | Man-Hin Lui Jason Chun Ho Lam Yi Lee Kwong Tak Siu Wong Pak Long Cheung Sherri Shun Yan Lai Pak Lun Yuen Wai Yiu Lam Ho Yan Chan Yiu Fai Wong Jimmy Shiu Ming Lai Kendrick Co Shih | 2017 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2017,10,2: | 5 |
| 8 | Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases: Challenges and opportunities for militaries显示文摘The communal nature of living and training environments, alongside suboptimal hygiene and stressors in the field, place military personnel at higher risk of contracting emerging infectious diseases. Some of these diseases spread quickly within ranks resulting in large outbreaks, and personnel deployed are also often immunologically na?ve to otherwise uncommonly-encountered pathogens. Furthermore, the chance of weaponised biological agents being used in conventional warfare or otherwise remains a very real, albeit often veiled, threat. However, such challenges also provide opportunities for the advancement of preventive and therapeutic military medicine, some of which have been later adopted in civilian settings. Some of these include improved surveillance, new vaccines and drugs, better public health interventions and inter-agency co-operations. | 9 | Pitfalls and sources of error of color duplex ultrasonography in detecting deep vein thrombosis of proximal lower extremities显示文摘Purpose To analyze the sources of errors and discuss the techniques to eliminate pitfalls in detecting deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the proximal lower extremities with color duplex ultrasonography (CDUS). Methods Sixty-eight cases with initial and repeat venous CDUS of the proximal lower extremities were retrospectively reviewed. The repeat was done within 24 hours after initial CDUS scanning. Comparing repeated images to initial ones, the pitfalls and sources of error in CDUS of the proximal lower extremities were discussed. Results In total 68 repeat studies, there were 62 results as same as initials and 4 cases of false negative DVT and 2 cases of false positive DVT. Conclusion Venous CDUS in detecting DVT is observer dependent. Some pitfalls and errors can be eliminated and corrected with proper scan techniques.
