1Identification of EST–SSRs and molecular diversity analysis in Mentha piperita显示文摘EST sequences of Mentha piperita available in the public domain(NCBI) were exploited to develop SSR markers. A total of 1316 ESTs were assembled into 155 contigs and 653 singletons and of these, 110 sequences were found to contain 130 SSRs, with a frequency of1 SSR/3.4 kb. Dinucleotide repeat SSRs were most frequent(72.3%) with the AG/CT(43.8%)repeat motif followed by AT/AT(16.2%). Primers were successfully designed for 68SSR-containing sequences(62.0%). The 68 primers amplified 13 accessions of M. piperita and 54 produced clear amplicons of the expected size. Of these 54, 33(61%) were found to be polymorphic among M. piperita accessions, showing from 2 to 4 alleles with an average of2.33 alleles/SSR, and the polymorphic information content(PIC) value varied between 0.13 and 0.51(average 0.25). All the amplified SSRs showed transferability among four different species of Mentha, with a highest in Mentha arvensis(87.0%) and minimum in Mentha citrata(37.0%). The newly developed SSRs markers were found to be useful for diversity analysis, as they successfully differentiated among species and accessions of Mentha.Birendra Kumar Umesh Kumar Hemant Kumar Yadav 2015The Crop Journal2015,3,4:14
2Modified chitosan hydrogels as drug delivery and tissue engineering systems:present status and applications显示文摘Chitosan,a natural cationic polysaccharide,is prepared industrially by the hydrolysis of the aminoacetyl groups of chitin,a naturally available marine polymer.Chitosan is a non-toxic,biocompatible and biodegradable polymer and has attracted considerable interest in a wide range of biomedical and pharmaceutical applications including drug delivery, cosmetics, and tissue engineering. The primary hydroxyl and amine groups located on the backbone of chitosan are responsible for the reactivity of the polymer and also act as sites for chemical modification. However, chitosan has certain limitations for use in controlled drug delivery and tissue engineering. These limitations can be overcome by chemical modification. Thus, modified chitosan hydrogels have gained importance in current research on drug delivery and tissue engineering systems. This paper reviews the general properties of chitosan, various methods of modification, and applications of modified chitosan hydrogels.Tapan Kumar Giri Amrita Thakur Amit Alexander Ajazuddin Hemant Badwaik Dulal Krishna Tripathi 2012Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,5:7
3Impact of gout on in-hospital outcomes of acute coronary syndrome-related hospitalizations and revascularizations: Insights from the national inpatient sample显示文摘BACKGROUND Previous studies have established a role of gout in predicting risk and prognosis of cardiovascular diseases. However, large-scale data on the impact of gout on inpatient outcomes of acute coronary syndrome (ACS)-related hospitalizations and post-revascularization is inadequate. AIM To evaluate the impact of gout on in-hospital outcomes of ACS hospitalizations, subsequent healthcare burden and predictors of post-revascularization inpatient mortality. METHODS We used the national inpatient sample (2010-2014) to identify the ACS and goutrelated hospitalizations, relevant comorbidities, revascularization and postrevascularization outcomes using the ICD-9 CM codes. A multivariable analysis was performed to evaluate the predictors of post-revascularization in-hospital mortality. RESULTS We identified 3144744 ACS-related hospitalizations, of which 105198 (3.35%) also had gout. The ACS-gout cohort were more often older white males with a higher prevalence of comorbidities. Coronary artery bypass grafting was required more often in the ACS-gout cohort. Post-revascularization complications including cardiac (3.2% vs 2.9%), respiratory (3.5% vs 2.9%), and hemorrhage (3.1% vs 2.7%) were higher whereas all-cause mortality was lower (2.2% vs 3.0%) in the ACSgout cohort (P < 0.001). An older age (OR 15.63, CI: 5.51-44.39), non-elective admissions (OR 2.00, CI: 1.44-2.79), lower household income (OR 1.44, CI: 1.17- 1.78), and comorbid conditions predicted higher mortality in ACS-gout cohort undergoing revascularization (P < 0.001). Odds of post-revascularization inhospital mortality were lower in Hispanics (OR 0.45, CI: 0.31-0.67) and Asians (OR 0.65, CI: 0.45-0.94) as compared to white (P < 0.001). However, postoperative complications significantly raised mortality odds. Mean length of stay, transfer to other facilities, and hospital charges were higher in the ACS-gout cohort. CONCLUSION Although gout was not independently associated with an increased risk of postrevascularization in-hospital mortality in ACS, it did increase postrevascularization complications.Rupak Desai Tarang Parekh Hemant Goyal Hee Kong Fong Dipen Zalavadia Nanush Damarlapally Rajkumar Doshi Sejal Savani Gautam Kumar Rajesh Sachdeva 2019World Journal of Cardiology2019,11,5:4
4Design of crown pillar thickness using finite element method and multivariate regression analysis显示文摘Minerals are now being extracted from deep mines due to drying up of resource in shallow ground. The need for suitable supports and ground control mechanisms for safe mining necessitates proper pillar design with filling technology. In addition, high horizontal stress may cause collapse of hanging wall and footwall rocks, hence designing of suitable crown pillars is absolutely necessary for imposing overall safety of the stopes. This paper provides a methodology for the evaluation of the required thickness of crown pillars for safe operation at depth ranging from 600 m to 1000 m. Analyses are conducted with the results of 108 non-linear numerical models considering Drucker-Prager material model in plane strain condition. Material properties of ore body rock and thickness of crown pillars are varied and safety factors of pillars estimated. Then, a generalized statistical relationship between the safety factors of crown pillars with the various input parameters is developed. The developed multivariate regression model is utilized for generating design/stability charts of pillars for different geo-mining conditions. These design charts can be used for the design of crown pillar thickness with the depth of the working, taking into account the changes of the rock mass conditions in underground metal mine.Kumar Hemant Deb Debasis Chakravarty D. 2017International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2017,27,6:3
5Discrepancies in the clinical and radiological profiles of COVID-19:A case-based discussion and review of literature显示文摘The current gold standard for the diagnosis of coronavirus disease-19(COVID-19)is a positive reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)test,on the background of clinical suspicion.However,RT-PCR has its limitations;this includes issues of low sensitivity, sampling errors and appropriate timing of specimen collection. As pulmonary involvement is the most common manifestation of severe COVID-19,early and appropriate lung imaging is important to aid diagnosis. However, gross discrepancies can occur between the clinical and imaging findings in patients with COVID-19,which can mislead clinicians in their decision making.Although chest X-ray(CXR)has a low sensitivity for the diagnosis of COVID-19 associated lung disease, especially in the earlier stages,a positive CXR increases the pre-test probability of COVID-19.CXR scoring systems have shown to be useful, such as the COVID-19 opacification rating score which helps to predict the need of tracheal intubation.Furthermore, artificial intelligence-based algorithms have also shown promise in differentiating COVID-19 pneumonia on CXR from other lung diseases.Although costlier than CXR,unenhanced computed tomographic(CT)chest scans have a higher sensitivity, but lesser specificity compared to RT-PCR for the diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia.A semi-quantitative CT scoring system has been shown to predict short-term mortality. The routine use of CT pulmonary angiography as a first-line imaging modality in patients with suspected COVID-19 is not justifiable due to the risk of contrast nephropathy.Scoring systems similar to those pioneered in CXR and CT can be used to effectively plan and manage hospital resources such as ventilators.Lung ultrasound is useful in the assessment of critically ill COVID-19 patients in the hands of an experienced operator. Moreover,it is a convenient tool to monitor disease progression,as it is cheap,non-invasive,easily accessible and easy to sterilise.Newer lung imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for safe imaging among children, adolescents and pregnant women are rapidly evolving.Imaging modalities are also essential for evaluating the extra-pulmonary manifestations of COVID-19:these include cranial imaging with CT or MRI;cardiac imaging with ultrasonography(US),CT and MRI;and abdominal imaging with US or CT.This review critically analyses the utility of each imaging modality to empower clinicians to use them appropriately in the management of patients with COVID-19 infection.Hemant Kumar Cornelius James Fernandez Sangeetha Kolpattil Mohamed Munavvar Joseph M Pappachan 2021World Journal of Radiology2021,13,4:2

11Assessment of household ownership of bed nets in areas with and without artemisinin resistance containment measures in Myanmar显示文摘Background:Myanmar lies in the Greater Mekong Subregion where there is artemisinin-resistant Plasmodium falciparum malaria. As the artemisinin compound is the pillar of effective antimalarial therapies, containing the spread of artemisinin resistance is a national and global priority. The use of insecticide-treated bed nets/long-lasting insecticidal nets(ITNs/LLINs)is the key intervention for ensuring the reduction of malaria transmission and the spread of resistant strains, and for eventually eliminating malaria. This study aimed at assessing household ownership of,access to,and utilization of bed nets in areas of Myanmar with and without artemisinin resistance containment measures. Methods:Secondary data from a nationwide community-based malaria survey conducted by the National Malaria Control Program in 2014 were analyzed.Based on evidence of artemisinin resistance,Myanmar was divided into tiers 1,2,and 3:townships in tiers 1 and 2 were aggregated as the Myanmar Artemisinin Resistance Containment(MARC)areas and were compared with tier 3 townships, which were defined as non-MARC areas. The chi-square test was used to compare groups, and the level of significance was set at P≤0.05.Results:Of the 6328 households assessed,97.2%in both MARC and non-MARC areas had at least one bed net(any type),but only 63%of households had ITNs/LLINs.Only 44%of households in MARC areas and 24%in non-MARC areas had adequate numbers of ITNs/LLINs(one ITN/LLIN per two persons,P<0.001).Nearly 44%of household members had access to ITNs/LLINs.Regarding the utilization of ITNs/LLINs,45%of household members used them in MARC areas and 36%used them in non-MARC areas(P<0.001,desired target=100%).Utilization of ITNs/LLINs among children aged below five years and pregnant women(high malaria risk groups)was low,at 44%and 42%,respectively.Conclusions:This study highlights the nationwide shortfalls in the ownership of,access to,and utilization of ITNs/LLINs in Myanmar, which is of particular concern in terms of containing the spread of artemisinin resistance. It highlights the need for priority attention to be paid and mobilization of resources in order to improve bed net coverage and utilization through bed net distribution and/or social marketing, information dissemination, and awareness-raising.Thae Maung Maung Tin Oo Khin Thet Wai Thaung Hlaing Philip Owiti Binay Kumar Hemant Deepak Shewade Rony Zachariah Aung Thi 2018Infectious Diseases of Poverty2018,7,1:1

15Condition Evaluation in Steel Truss Bridge with Fused Hilbert Transform,Spectral Kurtosis, and Bandpass Filter显示文摘This study is concerned with the diagnosis of discrepancies in a steel truss bridge by identifying dynamic properties from the vibration response signals of the bridges. The vibration response signals collected at bridges under three different vehicular speeds of 10 km/hr,20 km/hr,and 30 km/hr are analyzed using statistical features such as kurtosis, magnitude of peak-to-peak,root mean square, crest factor as well as impulse factor in time domain, and Stockwell transform in the time-frequency domain. The considered statistical features except for kurtosis show uncertain behavior. The Stockwell transform showed low-resolution outcomes when the presence of noise in the recorded vibration responses. The elimination of noise and extraction of meaningful dynamic properties from the vibration responses is done by applying a new method which comes from the fusion of Hilbert transform with Spectral kurtosis and bandpass filtering. The outcomes obtained from Hilbert transform processed residual signals which are further filtered using bandpass filter show more robustness and accuracy in characterizing bridge modal frequencies from the noisy vibration responses. The proposed method produces a high-resolution frequency response which can unveil the joint discrepancy in the bridge structure.Anshul Sharma Pardeep Kumar Hemant Kumar Vinayak uresh Kumar Walia 2021Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2021,15,2:1

20Flame spray pyrolysis for the one-step fabrication of transition metal oxide films:Recent progress in electrochemical and photoelectrochemical water splitting显示文摘Developing large scale deposition techniques to fabricate thin porous films with suitable opto-electro nic properties for water catalysis is a necessity to mitigate climate change and have a sustainable environment. In this review, flame spray pyrolysis(FSP)technique,a rapid and scalable methodology to synthesize nanostructured transitional metal oxide films with designed functionalities,is firstly introduced.Furthermore, applications in electrochemical(EC)and photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting for the production of hydrogen fuel is also presented. The high combustion temperature and the aggregation of flame aerosol ensure that the FSP-made films possess high crystallinity, tunable porosity and high surface areas, making this method suitable either as catalysts for EC water splitting or as efficient semiconductor materials for PEC water splitting. Finally,a perspective on the next generation FSP engineered films with potential applications in energy storage and conversion is described.Hongjun Chen Hemant Kumar Mulmudi Antonio Tricoli 2020Chinese Chemical Letters2020,31,3:1
