Comparative Analysis of Wavelet Transform for Time-Frequency Analysis and Transient Localization in Structural Health Monitoring显示文摘A critical problem facing data collection in structural health monitoring, for instance via sensor networks,is how to extract the main components and useful features for damage detection.A structural dynamic measurement is more often a complex time-varying process and therefore,is prone to dynamic changes in time-frequency contents. To extract the signal components and capture the useful features associated with damage from such nonstationary signals,a technique that combines the time and frequency analysis and shows the signal evolution in both time and frequency is required.Wavelet analyses have proven to be a viable and effective tool in this regard.Wavelet transform(WT)can analyze different signal components and then comparing the characteristics of each signal with a resolution matched to its scale. However, the challenge is the selection of a proper wavelet since various wavelets with varied properties that are to analyze the same data may result in different results. This article presents a study on how to carry out a comparative analysis based on analytic wavelet scalograms, using structural dynamic acceleration responses,to evaluate the effectiveness of various wavelets for damage detection in civil structures. The scalogram’s informative time-frequency regions are examined to analyze the variation of wavelet coefficients and show how the frequency content of a signal changes over time to detect transient events due to damage.Subsequently,damage-induced changes are tracked with time-frequency representations.Towards this aim, energy distribution and sharing information are investigated. The undamaged and damaged simulated comparative results of a structure reveal that the damaged structure were shifted from the undamaged structure. Also, the Bump wavelet shows the best results than the others. | Ahmed Silik Mohammad Noori Wael A.Altabey Ramin Ghiasi Zhishen Wu | 2021 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2021,15,1: | 4
Strain Transfer Mechanism of Grating Ends Fiber Bragg Grating for Structural Health Monitoring显示文摘The grating ends bonding fiber Bragg grating(FBG)sensor has been widely used in sensor packages such as substrate type and clamp type for health monitoring of large structures. However, owing to the shear deformation of the adhesive layer of FBG,the strain measured by FBG is often different from the strain of actual matrix, which causes strain measurement errors. This investigation aims at improving the measurement accuracy of strain for the grating ends surface-bonded FBG.To fulfill this objective,a strain transfer equation of the grating ends bonding FBG is derived, and a theoretical model of the average strain transfer from the matrix to the optical fiber is developed. Moreover, parameters that influence the average strain transfer rate from the matrix to the optical fiber are analyzed.A selection scheme of bonding parameters by numerical simulation is provided, which is significantly advantageous over that of the grating bonding FBG.The theoretical equation is verified by finite element method(FEM).Compared with the existing model, the proposed model has higher measurement accuracy.Experimental tests are performed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed model on the equalintensity cantilever beam, whose surface is attached to the bare FBG with grating ends bonding and strain gauge by using epoxy glue. The results show that there is a great agreement between the outcome of the bare FBG and that of the strain gauge, and the corrected strain is closer to the true strain. The proposed model provides a theoretical basis for the design of the grating ends surface-bonded FBG strain sensor for health monitoring of large structures. | Guang Chen Keqin Ding Qibo Feng Xinran Yin Fangxiong Tang | 2019 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2019,13,3: | 4
Mechanical Behaviors and Deformation Properties of Retaining Wall Formed by Grouting Mould-Bag Pile显示文摘The simplified mechanical model and finite element model are established on the basis of the measured results and analysis of the grouting pile deformation monitoring, surface horizontal displacement and vertical displacement monitoring, deep horizontal displacement(inclinometer)monitoring, soil pressure monitoring and seepage pressure monitoring in the lower reaches of Wuan River regulation project in Shishi,Fujian Province. The mechanical behavior and deformation performance of mould-bag pile retaining wall formed after controlled cement grouting in the silty stratum of the test section are analyzed and compared. The results show that the use of controlled cement grouting mould-bag pile technology is to strengthen the soft stratum for sealing water and reinforcement,so that it can rock into a retaining wall, which can both retain soil and seal water with excellent effect. The control of cement grouting technology not only makes the soft soil rock in the range of retaining wall of mould-bag pile, but also makes a wide range of soil around the mould-bag pile squeeze and embed to compaction;and its cohesion and internal friction angle increased,so as to achieve the purpose of reducing soil pressure and improving mechanical and deformation properties of retaining wall. | Shengcai Li Jun Tang Lin Guo | 2019 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2019,13,1: | 1

Seismic Vulnerability Analysis of Single-Story Reinforced Concrete Industrial Buildings with Seismic Fortification显示文摘As there is a lack of earthquake damage data for factory buildings with seismic fortifications in China, seismic vulnerability analysis was performed by numerical simulation in this paper. The earthquake-structure analysis model was developed with considering the influence of uncertainties of the ground motion and structural model parameters. The small-size sampling was conducted based on the Latin hypercube sampling and orthogonal design methods.Using nonlinear analysis, the seismic vulnerability curves and damage probability matrix with various seismic fortification intensities(SFI)were obtained. The seismic capacity of the factory building was then evaluated. The results showed that, with different designs at different SFIs,the factory building could consistently achieve the three seismic fortification objectives. For the studied factory buildings with the SFI of 6,they satisfied the seismic fortification requirements of“no damage in moderate earthquakes, mendable in strong earthquakes”;for those buildings with SFIs of 7 and 8,the requirement of“no collapsing in super strong earthquakes”was generally met;while for those with SFIs of 9,the requirement of“mendable in moderate earthquakes”was almost satisfied. The results showed factory buildings designed with low SFIs are better at achieving the seismic fortification objectives than those designed with high SFIs. | Jieping Liu Lingxin Zhang Haohao Zhang Tao Liu | 2019 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2019,13,2: | 1
Flexural Property of String Beam of Pre-Stressed Glulam Based on Influence of Regulation and Control显示文摘Applying pre-stress in glulam beam can reduce its deformation and make full use of the compressive strength of wood. However, when the glulam with low strength and the pre-stressed steel with high strength form combined members, materials of high strength can’t be fully utilized. Therefore, this study puts forward the idea of regulating and controlling string beam of pre-stressed glulam.By regulating and controlling the pre-stress,a part of the load borne by the wood is allocated to the pre-stressed tendon, which is equivalent to completing a redistribution of internal force, thus realizing the repeated utilization of the wood strength and the full utilization of the strength of the high-strength pre-stressed tendon. The bending experiments of 10 beams under 5 working conditions are carried out.The failure mode, bearing capacity and deformation of the beams are analyzed. The results show that 90%of beams are deformed under compression. The ultimate load of the regulated and controlled beam is obviously larger than that of the unregulated beam, and the ultimate load of the beam increases with the increase of the degree of regulation and control.Compared with that of the unregulated beams, the ultimate load of beams regulated by 7.5%-30%increases by 25.42%-65.08%,and the regulated and controlled effect is obvious. With the increase of the regulation and control amplitude of pre-stress,the stiffness of string beam of pre-stressed glulam increases. In addition, with the increase of the regulation and control amplitude, the compression height of the beam increases before the failure, and it reaches the state of full-section compression at the time of failure, giving full play to the compressive property of the glulam. At the end of the experiment, the constitutive relation which can reflect the anisotropy of the wood is established combined with the experimental data. The finite element analysis of the beam under 7 working conditions is carried out by using ABAQUS finite element program, and the influence of the regulation and control amplitude on the stress distribution and ultimate bearing capacity of the beam is discussed. | Nan Guo Wenbo Wang Hongliang Zuo | 2019 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2019,13,2: | 1
Crack Detection and Localization on Wind Turbine Blade Using Machine Learning Algorithms: A Data Mining Approach显示文摘Wind turbine blades are generally manufactured using fiber type material because of their cost effectiveness and light weight property however, blade get damaged due to wind gusts, bad weather conditions, unpredictable aerodynamic forces, lightning strikes and gravitational loads which causes crack on the surface of wind turbine blade. It is very much essential to identify the damage on blade before it crashes catastrophically which might possibly destroy the complete wind turbine. In this paper,a fifteen tree classification based machine learning algorithms were modelled for identifying and detecting the crack on wind turbine blades. The models are built based on computing the vibration response of the blade when it is excited using piezoelectric accelerometer. The statistical, histogram and ARMA methods for each algorithm were compared essentially to suggest a better model for the identification and localization of crack on wind turbine blade. | A.Joshuva V.Sugumaran | 2019 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2019,13,2: | 1

Long-Term Bending Behaviour of Prestressed Glulam Bamboo-Wood Beam Based on Creep Effect显示文摘Creep is an important characteristic of bamboo and wood materials under long-term loading. This paper aims to study the long-term bending beha-viour of prestressed glulam bamboo-wood beam(GBWB).For this,14 pre-stressed GBWBs were selected and subjected to a long-term loading test for 60 days. Then,a comparative analysis was performed for the effects of pre-tension values, the number of pre-stressed wires, and long-term load on the stress variation of the steel wire and the long-term deflection of the beam midspan. The test results showed that with the number of prestressed wires increasing, the total stress of the steel wire in the beam midspan and the ratio of the long-term deflec-tion to the total deflection decreases decreased, but when the number of steel wires exceeded 4,the total stress and long-term deflection was less infuenced;with the pre-tension value increasing, the ratio of the total stress of the steel wire in the beam midspan and the ratio of the long-temm deflection to the total deflec-tion also decreased, but when the prestress force was greater than 3.975 kN,the:total stress and long-term deflection were less affected;with the other parameters unchanged, when the value of the long-term load increased, the total stress of the steel wire decreased, and the long-temm deflection of the beam midspan increased, which shall be more significant with the long-term load greater than 30%of the standard ultimate bearing capacity. After the test, the experimental data were fitted, and the creep coefficient was given. Finally, the long-term stiffness calcula-tion fommula of the pre-stressed GBWB based on creep effect was proposed. The research findings have certain theoretical significance and engineering value. | Nan Guo Huajing Xiong Mingtao Wu Hongliang Zuo Fengguo Jiang Xiaofeng Hou Dabo Xin | 2020 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2020,14,3: | 1
Fatigue Performance Analysis and Evaluation for Steel Box Girder Based on Structural Health Monitoring System显示文摘Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge as a long-span suspension bridge, the finite element model(FEM)of it is established using the ANSYS Software. The beam4 element is used to simulate the main beam to establish the“spine beam”model of the Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge. The calculated low-order vibration mode frequency of the FEM is in good agreement with the completion test results. The model can simulate the overall dynamic response of the bridge.Based on the vehicle load survey, the Monte Carlo method is applied to simulate the traffic load flow. Then the overall dynamic response analysis of FEM is car-ried out.Taking the bending moment of the main beam as the control index, the fatigue sensitive section in the steel box girder of FEM is analyzed.Based on the strain time history data of steel box girder recorded by the structural health mon-itoring system(SHM),the true stress response of steel box girder under vehicle load is extracted.Taking the cumulative fatigue damage increment as the evalua-tion index, the fati gue performance evaluation of the steel box girders is con-ducted based on the collected health monitoring data. The fatigue effect of the beam section near the steel tower, especially the first section of the middle tower,is the key section of the fatigue analysis by health morning system, which is con-sistent with the calculation results of FEM. | Meiling Zhuang Changqing Miao Rongfeng Chen | 2020 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2020,14,1: | 1
Classifying Machine Learning Features Extracted from Vibration Signal with Logistic Model Tree to Monitor Automobile Tyre Pressure显示文摘Tyre pressure monitoring system(TPMS)is compulsory in most countries like the United States and European Union. The existing systems depend on pressure sensors strapped on the tyre or on wheel speed sensor data.A difference in wheel speed would trigger an alarm based on the algorithm implemented. In this paper, machine learning approach is proposed as a new method to monitor tyre pressure by extracting the vertical vibrations from a wheel hub of a moving vehicle using an accelerometer. The obtained signals will be used to compute through statistical features and histogram features for the feature extraction process. The LMT(Logistic Model Tree)was used as the classifier and attained a classification accuracy of 92.5%with 10-fold cross validation for statistical features and 90.5% with 10-fold cross validation for histogram features. The proposed model can be used for monitoring the automobile tyre pressure successfully. | P.S.Anoop V.Sugumaran | 2017 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2017,11,2: | 1
Condition Evaluation in Steel Truss Bridge with Fused Hilbert Transform,Spectral Kurtosis, and Bandpass Filter显示文摘This study is concerned with the diagnosis of discrepancies in a steel truss bridge by identifying dynamic properties from the vibration response signals of the bridges. The vibration response signals collected at bridges under three different vehicular speeds of 10 km/hr,20 km/hr,and 30 km/hr are analyzed using statistical features such as kurtosis, magnitude of peak-to-peak,root mean square, crest factor as well as impulse factor in time domain, and Stockwell transform in the time-frequency domain. The considered statistical features except for kurtosis show uncertain behavior. The Stockwell transform showed low-resolution outcomes when the presence of noise in the recorded vibration responses. The elimination of noise and extraction of meaningful dynamic properties from the vibration responses is done by applying a new method which comes from the fusion of Hilbert transform with Spectral kurtosis and bandpass filtering. The outcomes obtained from Hilbert transform processed residual signals which are further filtered using bandpass filter show more robustness and accuracy in characterizing bridge modal frequencies from the noisy vibration responses. The proposed method produces a high-resolution frequency response which can unveil the joint discrepancy in the bridge structure. | Anshul Sharma Pardeep Kumar Hemant Kumar Vinayak uresh Kumar Walia | 2021 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2021,15,2: | 1
Guided Wave Based Damage Detection Method for Aircraft Composite Structures under Varying Temperatures显示文摘Guided waves based damage detection methods using base signals offer the advantages of simplicity of signal generation and reception, sensitivity to damage, and large area coverage;however, applications of the technology are limited by the sensitivity to environmental temperature variations. In this paper,a Spearman Damage Index-based damage diagnosis method for structural health condition monitoring under varying temperatures is presented.First,a PZT sensor-based Guided wave propagation model is proposed and employed to analyze the temperature effect. The result of the analysis shows the wave speed of the Guided wave signal has higher temperature sensitivity than the signal fluctuation features. Then,a Spearman rank correlation coefficient-based damage index is presented to identify damage of the structure under varying temperatures. Finally,a damage detection test on a composite plate is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the Spearman Damage Index-based damage diagnosis method.Experimental results show that the proposed damage diagnosis method is capable of detecting the existence of the damage and identify its location under varying temperatures. | Dongyue Gao Yunlong Ma Zhanjun Wu Yuebin Zheng Hongbo Lu | 2021 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2021,15,1: | 1
Fiber Grating-Based Strain Sensor Array for Health Monitoring of Pipelines显示文摘Pipelines are one of the most important modern energy transportation methods, used especially for the transportation of certain dangerous energy media materials such as crude oil, natural gas,and chemical raw materials.New requirements have been put forward for the health monitoring and early security warning of pipelines because of the large-scale and complicated development trend of the pipe network system. To achieve an accurate assessment of the health conditions of pipeline infrastructure, obtaining as many precise operating parameters as possible, particularly at some critical parts of the pipeline,is necessary. Therefore,a novel type of fiber grating strain sensor array is proposed herein to monitor the pipeline hoop strain. The sensor utilizes fiber grating characteristics such as light weight, corrosion resistance, remote transmission, and strong environmental adaptability. The fiber containing the grating measurement points is implanted into the composite material to complete the sensitization encapsulation and protection of the bare fiber grating. The design of the sensor array fulfills the requirements for monitoring pipeline mass data, making it easy to form a pipeline health monitoring sensor network. The sensor sensitivity is researched by using a combination of theoretical and experimental analysis.A sensitivity test,as well as linearity and stability tests, are performed on the sensor. The experimental results show that the average sensitivity of the sensor is 14.86 pm/με,and the error from the theoretical calculation analysis value is 8.75%.Due to its high reliability, good linear response and long-term stability, and the ability to reflect the exact strain change of the outer wall of the pipeline, the designed sensor can support longterm online pipeline monitoring. The fiber grating sensor array network has successfully realized the monitoring of the pipeline’s internal operation by using external strain changes. In addition to the performance benefits, there are other merits associated with the applicability of the sensor namely simple structure, compact size, manufacturing ease, and exterior installation ease. | Hui Wang Songyou Li Lei Liang Gang Xu Bin Tu | 2019 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2019,13,4: | 1
Seismic Reliability Assessment of Inelastic SDOF Systems Subjected to Near-Fault Ground Motions Considering Pulse Occurrence显示文摘The ground motions in the orientation corresponding to the strongest pulse energy impose more serious demand on structures than that of ordinary ground motions. Moreover, not all near-fault ground motion records present distinct pulses in the velocity time histories. In this paper, the parameterized stochastic model of near-fault ground motion with the strongest energy and pulse occurrence probability is suggested, and the Monte Carlo simulation(MSC)and subset simulation are utilized to calculate the first excursion probability of inelastic single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF)systems subjected to these types of near-fault ground motion models, respectively.Firstly, the influences of variation of stochastic pulse model parameters on structural dynamic reliability with different fundamental periods are explored. It is demonstrated that the variation of pulse period, peak ground velocity and pulse waveform number have significant effects on structural reliability and should not be ignored in reliability analysis. Then, subset simulation is verified to be unbiased and more efficient for computing small reliable probabilities of structures compared to MCS.Finally, the reliable probabilities of the SDOF systems with different fundamental periods subjected to impulsive,non-pulse ground motions and the ground motions with pulse occurrence probability are performed, separately. It is indicated that the ground motion model with the pulse occurrence probability can give a rational estimate on structural reliability. The impulsive and ordinary ground motion models may overestimate and underestimate the reliability of structures with fundamental period much less than the mean pulse period of earthquake ground motions. | Jilei Zhou Chuansong Sun Xiangjun Dai Guohai Chen | 2019 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2019,13,4: | 1
Optimization of Casing Design Parameters to Mitigate Casing Failure Caused by Formation Slippage显示文摘There has been lack of work efforts on how to optimize cementing and completing parameters in order to prevent casing failure induced by formation slippage in pertroleum industry scope.Once the weak plane fails, the formation will become easily undertaken slippage across a large area along its interface. The plenty of horizontal planes of weakness in reservoir formations,as reported for a number of oilfields, can easily undertaken slippage once it fails. To address the problem,three-dimensional finite element models were established by taking into considerations the elastoplastic mechanical characteristics of both the casing and the near-wellbore rock. Two types of casing impairment scenarios were considered:Casing collapse(that causes tubing stuck in the well)and complete casing shear-off.In this study, the critical slip displacement of casing shear damage under both cemented and un-cemented conditions was calculated, and the critical displacement of casing with various wall thicknesses and steel grades was compared.A new cementing practice for the Daqing oilfield was then proposed by optimizing casing parameters according to API standards, and a new research method was also put forward by proposing new casing materials to effectively mitigate casing failure caused by formation slippage for the future.Modeling results indicate that the stress and deformation associated with casing in the un-cemented condition is more diffused and the critical slippage displacement is larger than that in the cemented condition. Therefore, the un-cemented condition is more effective in preventing casing shear failure and easier for casing repair, for the case of casing damage caused by formation shear slippage.Casing elongation is the key parameter of casing shear failure in the un-cemented condition.Lower grade casing exhibits a larger critical slippage displacement because of its higher elongation capacity under stress.Casing with lower grade and smaller thickness provides more advantages in preventing casing damage in formations abundant with horizontal weak layers. If the elongation of casing can be largely improved, the critical displacement value can be increased by 21.40%.Higher grade and thicker casing is adapted for mitigate casing failure caused by formation slippage. | Chaoyang Hu Chi Ai Fengjiao Wang | 2018 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2018,12,2: | 1

Durability of Reinforced Concrete Structures under Coupling Action of Load and Chlorine Erosion显示文摘Diffusion behavior of chloride ion in reinforced concrete under bendingmoment was studied by taking the ratio of bending moment to ultimate flexural capacity asload level indicator. The function relationship between load level and chloride iondiffusion coefficient was established, based on that the limit state equation of the chlorideion critical concentration and chloride ion concentration on surface of the steel bar wasestablished. Then by applying Monte-Carlo method the corrosion probability ofreinforcement under different load levels in splash zone was calculated. Calculation resultsdemonstrated that compared with the durability reliability index considering loading effect, the reliability index without considering loading effect could be 100% higher. Inconsideration of requirement for concrete durability, some revision suggestion was putforward. It was recommended that for beam members with different design life in splashzone, the corresponding minimum cover thickness should be adjusted properly as well aswater-cement ratio limit. | Yang Li Dongwei Yang Jiangkun Zhang | 2018 | Structural Durability & Health Monitoring2018,12,1: | 1
