| 2 | Status monitoring and health assessment of Luhuitou fringing reef of Sanya, Hainan, China显示文摘The monitoring survey and health assessment for benthic community were carried out in Luhuitou fringing reef of Sanya, Hainan, China in 2002. Monitoring survey included manta tow, line intercept transect, video transect and digital photograph. The mean live coral cover was 23.40%. Comparison of used monitoring methods showed that video transect can replace line intercept transect, and 50 m transect is better than 20 m transect in uneven coral region. Survey data and comparison with previous research work showed that Luhuitou fringing reef has been damaged severely and has a general declining trend with live coral cover from about 85% in the 1960s down to 20% in 2004, but it still has quite high biodiversity and therefore has special protection value. Main factors of Luhuitou fringing reef declining were human activities including reef rock digging and curios collecting, destructive fishing, sediment and pollutant from coastal land, and recent marine aquaculture. | 3 | Spatial and temporal dynamics of phytoplankton and bacterioplankton biomass in Sanya Bay, northern South China Sea显示文摘The composition of phytoplankton and the dynamics of phytoplankton and bacterioplankton biomass (PB and BB, respectively) of Sanya Bay, South China Sea, were determined. A total of 168 species (67 genera) phytoplankton were identified, including Bacillariophyta (diatom, 128 species), Pyrrophyta (35 species), Cyanophyta (3 species), and Chrysophyta (2 species). Annual average abundance of phytoplankton was 1.2 × 107 cells/m3, with the highest abundance in autumn, and the lowest in summer. Annual average diversity index (H ) and evenness (J) values were 3.96 and 0.70, respectively. Average chlorophyll-a was 2.5 mg/m3, and the average PB was 124 mg C/m3, with the highest value in autumn. Surface PB was higher than the bottom, except for summer. Annual mean bacterioplankton abundance and BB were 6.9 × 1011 cells/m3 and 13.8 mg C/m3, respectively. The highest BB was found in summer, followed by winter, spring, and autumn. Surface BB was higher than bottom all year round. The spatial distribution patterns of PB and BB were very similar with the highest biomass in the estuary, and decreased seaward, primarily due to the terrestrial input from the Sanya River and influx of oceanic water. The main factor influencing PB and BB was dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN). Other factors such as temperature, which is above 22°C throughout the year, had a negligible impact. The correlation between BB and PB was significant (P < 0.01). The annual average ratio of BB/PB was 0.12 (0.06-0.15). | 4 | Estimate of carbonate production by scleractinian corals at Luhuitou fringing reef,Sanya,China显示文摘Carbonate production by scleractinian corals not only maintains coral reef growth, but also represents an important source of atmospheric carbon dioxide. In this paper the carbonate production by scler-actinian corals at Luhuitou fringing reef, Sanya, Hainan Island, China, is investigated with an ecological census-based method. Averaged carbonate production is 1.16 ± 0.55 kg·m-2·a-1 and 3.52 ± 1.32 kg·m-2·a-1 on the reef flat and reef slope, respectively, depending on the composition and distribution of corals and the intergeneric difference of skeletal growth. In response to the rapidly increasing human impacts, coral carbonate production has decreased by 80%―89% at this fringing reef since the 1960s; as a result, the reef accretion rate declined and became lower than the rate of sea level rise. Further development of the Luhuitou fringing reef will switch significantly from lateral extension sea-wards to vertical growth, reflecting a response of coral reef biogeomorphic process to strong human impacts under the background of global sea level rise. In addition, decrease in coral carbonate production reduced CO2 release from this fringing reef. | 8 | Remote Sensing Estimation of Forest Canopy Density Combined with Texture Features显示文摘The development of high-resolution remote sensing imaging technology provides a new way to the large-scale estimation of forest canopy density. The traditional inversion methods for canopy density only use spectral or topographical features of remote sensing images.However,due to the existence of the different thing with same spectrum and the same thing with different spectrum phenomena,it is difficult to improve the estimation accuracy of canopy density.Based on spectrum and other traditional features,this paper combines texture features of remote sensing images to estimate canopy density.Firstly,the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) texture features are computed using objectbased method.Then,the principal component analysis (PCA) method is applied in correlation analysis and dimension reduction of texture features.Finally, spectrum and topographical features together with texture features are introduced into stepwise regression model to estimate canopy density.The experimental results showed that compared with the traditional method only based on spectrum or topographical features,the method combined with texture features greatly improved the estimation accuracy.The coefficient of determination(adjusted R^2 ) increased from 0.737 to 0.805.The estimation accuracy increased from 81.03%to 84.32%. | Wu Yang Zhang Dengrong Zhang Hankui Wu Honggan | 2012 | Chinese Forestry Science and Technology2012,11,3: | 1 |
