Biothiol-specific fluorescent probes with aggregation-induced emission characteristics显示文摘Biothiols are important species in physiological processes such as regulating protein structures, redox homeostasis and cell signalling. Alternation in the biothiol levels is associated with various pathological processes, therefore non-invasive fluorescent probes with high specificity to biothiols are highly desirable research utilities. Meanwhile, fluorescent probes with aggregationinduced emission properties(AIEgens) possess unique photophysical properties that allow modulation of the sensing process through controlling the aggregation-disaggregation or the intramolecular rotational motions of the fluorophores. Herein we review the recent progress in the development of biothiol-specific AIEgens. In particular, the molecular design principles to target different types of biothiols and the corresponding sensing mechanisms are discussed, along with the potential of the future design and development of multi-functional bioprobes. | Siyang Ding Mengjie Liu Yuning Hong | 2018 | Science China Chemistry2018,61,8: | 7
Production and emission of phosphine gas from wetland ecosystems显示文摘Phosphine is a part of an atmospheric link of phosphorus cycle on earth, which could be an important pathway for phosphorus transport in environment.Wetland ecosystems are important locations for global biogeochemical phosphorus cycle. In this study, production and emission fluxes of free phosphine from four wetlands types in southern China were observed in different seasons. The results showed that the concentration of phosphine liberated from wetlands was at pg/m3-ng/m3 level. The emission concentrations of different wetlands followed the sequence:paddy field(51.83 ± 3.06) ng/m3 marsh(46.54 ± 20.55) ng/m3 > lake(37.05 ± 22.74) ng/m3 coastal wetland(1.71 ± 0.73) ng/m3, the positive phosphine emission flux occurred in rice paddy field(6.67 ± 5.18) ng/(m2·hr) and marsh(6.23 ± 26.9) ng/(m2·hr), while a negative phosphine flux of(-13.11 ± 35.04) ng/(m2·hr) was observed on the water-air interface of Lake Taihu, suggesting that paddy field and marsh may be important sources for phosphine gas in atmosphere, while lake may be a sink of atmospheric phosphine gas during the sampling period.Atmospheric phosphine levels and emission flux from Yancheng marsh and rice paddy field varied in different seasons and vegetational zones. Both diffusion resistance in aqueous phase and temperature were dominating factors for the production and transportation of phosphine to atmosphere. | Chao Han Xueyuan Gu Jinju Geng Yuning Hong Rui Zhang Xiaorong Wang Shixiang Gao | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,9: | 5
Extraction and back-extraction behaviors of 14 rare earth elements from sulfuric acid medium by TODGA显示文摘The unique physical and chemical properties of rare earth elements lay the foundation for their extensive application. N,N,N',N' Tetra-octyl-3-oxopentanediamide(TODGA) is excellent in its ability of extracting rare earth elements and it is favored for green initiative. In this paper, the extraction and back-extraction of14 rare earth elements by TODGA were studied. Experiments show that in conditions of 6 mol/L sulfuric acid, the extraction temperature of 25 ℃,the phase ratio of 1:1 and 0.04 mol/LTODGA(aviation kerosene as the diluent), the extraction rates of 14 rare earth elements including lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, and yttrium were 99.00%-99.73%. Mixed with hydrochloric acid and nitric acid(HCl 3.5 mol/L, HNO_30.5 mol/L), the recoveries of the 14 rare earth elements are 91.52%-99.91% when the extraction temperature is 25 ℃ and the ratio is 1:1. The following application is based on the optimum conditions above with practical samples(from the roasting production line of China North Rare Earth High-tech Company Limited) for extraction and back-extraction experiments. Experiments show that TODGA has excellent enrichment effect on 14 rare earth elements, the extraction rates are 91.36%-99.80%, the back-extraction rates are 87.29%-99.64% and the total recoveries are 81.19%-99.44%. | Huiting Yuan Weixiang Hong Yushan Zhou Baisong Pu Aijun Gong Tao Xu Qishan Yang Fukai Li Lina Qiu Weiwei Zhang Yuning Liu | 2018 | Journal of Rare Earths2018,36,6: | 4

Red blood cell membrane-camouflaged nanoparticles loaded with AIEgen and Poly(I: C) for enhanced tumoral photodynamic-immunotherapy显示文摘Red blood cell(RBC)-mimicking nanoparticles(NPs) offer a promising platform for drug delivery because of their prolonged circulation time, reduced immunogenicity and specific targeting ability. Herein, we report the design and preparation of RBC membrane-bound NPs(M@AP), for tumoral photodynamic-immunotherapy. The M@AP is formed by self-assembly of the positively charged aggregation-induced emission luminogen(AIEgen)(named P2-PPh3) and the negatively charged polyinosinic : polycytidylic acid(Poly(I : C)), followed by RBC membrane encapsulation. P2-PPh3 is an AIE-active conjugated polyelectrolyte with additional photosensitizing ability for photodynamic therapy(PDT), while Poly(I : C) serves as an immune-stimulant to stimulate both tumor and immune cells to activate immunity, and thus reduces tumor cell viability. When applied in tumor-bearing mice, the M@AP NPs are enriched in both the tumor region as a result of an enhanced permeability and retention(EPR)effect, and the spleen because of the homing effect of the RBC-mimicking shell. Upon light irradiation,P2-PPh3 promotes strong ROS generation in tumor cells, inducing the release of tumor antigens(TA). The anti-tumor immunity is further enhanced by the presence of Poly(I : C) in M@AP. Thus, this strategy combines the PDT properties of the AIE-active polyelectrolyte and immunotherapy properties of Poly(I : C) to achieve synergistic activation of the immune system for anti-tumor activity, providing a novel strategy for tumor treatment. | Jun Dai Meng Wu Quan Wang Siyang Ding Xiaoqi Dong Liru Xue Qingqing Zhu Jian Zhou Fan Xia Shixuan Wang Yuning Hong | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,6: | 1

Reduced glycodeoxycholic acid levels are associated with negative clinical outcomes of gestational diabetes mellitus显示文摘Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM) is characterized by glycemia and insulin disorders.Bile acids(BAs) have emerged as vital signaling molecules in glucose metabolic regulation.BA change in GDM is still unclear, which exerts great significance to illustrate the change of BAs in GDM.GDM patients and normal pregnant women were enrolled during the oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) screening period.Fasting serums were sampled for the measurement of BAs.BA metabolism profiles were analyzed in both pregnant women with GDM and those with normal glucose tolerance(NGT).Delivery characteristics, delivery gestational age,and infant birthweight were extracted from medical records.GDM patients presented distinctive features compared with NGT patients, including higher body mass index(BMI),elevated serum glucose concentration, raised insulin(both fasting and OGTT),and increased hemoglobin A1 c(HbA1c) levels.Higher homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) and decreased β-cell compensation(i.e.,oral disposition index(DIo)) were also prevalent in this group.Total BAs(TBAs) remained stable, but glycodeoxycholic acid(GDCA) and taurodeoxycholic acid(TDCA) levels declined significantly in GDM.GDCA was inversely correlated with HOMA-IR and positively correlated with DIo.No obvious differences in clinical outcome between the GDM and NGT groups were observed. However,GDM patients with high HOMA-IR and low DIo tended to have a higher cesarean delivery rate and younger delivery gestational age.In conclusion,GDCA provides a valuable biomarker to evaluate HOMA-IR and DIo, and decreased GDCA levels predict poorer clinical outcomes for GDM. | Bo ZHU Zhixin MA Yuning ZHU Lei FANG Hong ZHANG Hongwei KONG Dajing XIA | 2021 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2021,22,3: | 1
Rare tumors: a blue ocean of investigation显示文摘Advances in novel drugs, therapies, and genetic techniques have revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of cancers, substantially improving cancer patients’prognosis.Although rare tumors account for a non-negligible number, the practice of precision medicine and development of novel therapies are largely hampered by many obstacles.Their low incidence and drastic regional disparities result in the difficulty of informative evidence-based diagnosis and subtyping.Sample exhaustion due to difficulty in diagnosis also leads to a lack of recommended therapeutic strategies in clinical guidelines, insufficient biomarkers for prognosis/efficacy,and inability to identify potential novel therapies in clinical trials.Herein,by reviewing the epidemiological data of Chinese solid tumors and publications defining rare tumors in other areas,we proposed a definition of rare tumor in China, including 515 tumor types with incidences of less than 2.5/100000 per year.We also summarized the current diagnosis process, treatment recommendations, and global developmental progress of targeted drugs and immunotherapy agents on the status quo.Lastly,we pinpointed the current recommendation chance for patients with rare tumors to be involved in a clinical trial by NCCN.With this informative report,we aimed to raise awareness on the importance of rare tumor investigations and guarantee a bright future for rare tumor patients. | Shuhang Wang Peiwen Ma Ning Jiang Yale Jiang Yue Yu Yuan Fang Huilei Miao Huiyao Huang Qiyu Tang Dandan Cui Hong Fang Huishan Zhang Qi Fan Yuning Wang Gang Liu Zicheng Yu Qi Lei Ning Li | 2023 | Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,2: | 0

Effects of La^(3+),Ce^(3+) on nitrogen removal in sequencing batch reactor显示文摘Batch experiments were conducted to study the short-term biological effects of rare earth ions(La^(3+),Ce^(3+))and their mixture on the nitrogen removal in a sequencing batch reactor(SBR).The data showed that higher NH4+–N removal rate, total inorganic nitrogen removal efficiency, and denitrification efficiency were achieved at lower concentrations of rare earth elements(REEs)(<1 mg/L).In the first hour of the aeration stage of SBR,the presence of REEs increased the total inorganic nitrogen removal efficiency and NH4+–N removal effi-ciency by 15.7%and 10%–15%,respectively.When the concentrations of REEs were higher than 1 mg/L,the total inorganic nitrogen removal efficiency decreased, and nitrate was found to accumulate in the effluent. When the concentrations of REEs was up to 50.0 mg/L,the total inorganic nitrogen removal efficiency was less than 30%of the control efficiency with a high level of nitrate.Lower concentrations of REEs were found to accelerate the nitrogen conversion and removal in SBR. | Qing XIA Rui LIANG Yuxiang MAO Yuning HONG Lili DING Hongqiang REN Mingyu ZHAO | 2009 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2009,3,3: | 0
A 4H-SiC semi-super-junction shielded trench MOSFET: p-pillar is grounded to optimize the electric field characteristics显示文摘A 4H-SiC trench gate metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor(UMOSFET)with semi-super-junction shiel-ded structure(SS-UMOS)is proposed and compared with conventional trench MOSFET(CT-UMOS)in this work. The advantage of the proposed structure is given by comprehensive study of the mechanism of the local semi-super-junction structure at the bottom of the trench MOSFET.In particular, the influence of the bias condition of the p-pillar at the bottom of the trench on the static and dynamic performances of the device is compared and revealed. The on-resistance of SS-UMOS with grounded(G)and ungrounded(NG)p-pillar is reduced by 52%(G)and 71%(NG)compared to CT-UMOS,respectively.Additionally,gate ox-ide in the GSS-UMOS is fully protected by the p-shield layer as well as semi-super-junction structure under the trench and p-base regions. Thus,a reduced electric-field of 2 MV/cm can be achieved at the corner of the p-shield layer. However, the quasi-intrinsic protective layer cannot be formed in NGSS-UMOS due to the charge storage effect in the floating p-pillar,resulting in a large electric field of 2.7 MV/cm at the gate oxide layer. Moreover, the total switching loss of GSS-UMOS is 1.95 mJ/cm2 and is reduced by 18%compared with CT-UMOS.On the contrary, the NGSS-UMOS has the slowest overall switching speed due to the weakened shielding effect of the p-pillar and the largest gate-to-drain capacitance among the three. The proposed GSS-UMOS plays an important role in high-voltage and high-frequency applications, and will provide a valuable idea for device design and circuit applications. | Xiaojie Wang Zhanwei Shen Guoliang Zhang Yuyang Miao Tiange Li Xiaogang Zhu Jiafa Cai Rongdun Hong Xiaping Chen Dingqu Lin Shaoxiong Wu Yuning Zhang Deyi Fu Zhengyun Wu Feng Zhang | 2022 | Journal of Semiconductors2022,43,12: | 0
Click chemistry in the design of AIEgens for biosensing and bioimaging显示文摘The development of rapid, selective, and sensitivefluorescent sensors is essential for visualizing and quantifying biological molecules and processes in vitro,ex vitro, and in vivo, which is important for not only fundamental biological studies but the accurate diagnosis of diseases. The emergingfield of activity-based sensing(ABS),a sensing method that utilizes molecular reactivity for analyte detection possesses many advantages including high specificity, sensitivity and accuracy. The aggrega-tion caused quenching phenomenon which occurs in most conventionalfluorophores results in reduced labeling efficiency of the target analytes and low photobleaching resistance, therefore limiting the applications of the ABS strategy. In contrast,aggre-gation induced emission(AIE)active luminogens(AIEgens)provide exceptional molecular frameworks for ABS.Of the many reaction classes utilized in the AIEgen ABS approach, click chemistry has become increasing popular. In this review, the sensing concepts of the ABS approach with AIEgens and the principles of click chemistry are discussed, followed by a systematic summary of the application of specific click chemistry reactions in AIEgen ABS protocols for the detection of an array of target analytes.Furthermore, the utility of click chemistry in the construction of AIEgens for bioimaging will also be showcased throughout the review. | Marie-Claire Giel Yuning Hong | 2023 | Aggregate2023,4,4: | 0
The effect of tailing lipidation on the bioactivity of antimicrobial peptides and their aggregation tendency Special Issue:Emerging Investigators显示文摘Antimicrobial peptides(AMPs)are potentially powerful alternatives to conven-tional antibiotics in combating multidrug resistance, given their broad spectrum of activity. They mainly interact with cell membranes through surface electrostatic potentials and the formation of secondary structures, resulting in permeability and destruction of target microorganism membranes. Our earlier work showed that two leading AMPs,MSI-78(4–20)and pardaxin(1–22),had potent antimicrobial activ-ity against a range of bacteria. It is known that the attachment of moderate-length lipid carbon chains to cationic peptides can further improve the functionality of these peptides through enhanced interactions with the membrane lipid bilayer, inducing membrane curvature, destabilization, and potential leakage. Thus,in this work,we aimed to investigate the antimicrobial activity, oligomerization propensity, and lipid-membrane binding interactions of a range of N-terminal lipidated analogs of MSI-78(4–20)and pardaxin(1–22).Molecular modeling results suggest that aggregation of the N-lipidated AMPs may impart greater structural stability to the peptides in solu-tion and a greater depth of lipid bilayer insertion for the N-lipidated AMPs over the parental peptide. Our experimental and computationalfindings provide insights into how N-terminal lipidation of AMPs may alter their conformations, with subsequent effects on their functional properties in regard to their self-aggregation behavior, membrane interactions, and antimicrobial activity. | Bruce Lin Andrew Hung William Singleton Kevion K.Darmawan Rachael Moses Bicheng Yao Hongkang Wu Anders Barlow Marc-Antoine Sani Alastair J.Sloan Mohammed Akhter Hossain John D.Wade Yuning Hong Neil M.O’Brien-Simpson Wenyi Li | 2023 | Aggregate2023,4,4: | 0
