1A review on 2D MoS_(2) cocatalysts in photocatalytic H_(2) production显示文摘Owing to their unique physicochemical,optical and electrical properties,two-dimensional(2D)MoS_(2) cocatalysts have been widely applied in designing and developing highly efficient composite photocatalysts for hydrogen generation under suitable light irradiation.In this review,we first elaborated on the fundamental aspects of 2D MoS_(2) cocatalysts to include the structural design principles,synthesis strategies,strengths and challenges.Subsequently,we thoroughly highlighted and discussed the modification strategies of 2D MoS_(2) H2-evolution cocatalysts,including doping heteroatoms(e.g.metals,non-metals,and co-doping),designing interfacial coupling morphologies,controlling the physical properties(e.g.thickness,size,structural defects or pores),exposing the reactive facets or edge sites,constructing cocatalyst heterojunctions,engineering the interfacial bonds and confinement effects.In the future,the forefront challenges in understanding and in precise controlling of the active sites at molecular level or atomic level should be carefully studied,while various potential mechanisms of photogenerated-electrons interactions should be proposed.The applications of MoS_(2) cocatalyst in the overall water splitting are also expected.This review may offer new inspiration for designing and constructing novel and efficient MoS_(2)-based composite photocatalysts for highly efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution.Zizhan Liang Rongchen Shen Yun Hau Ng Peng Zhang Quanjun Xiang Xin Li 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,56,21:12

3Impact of Renewable Energy Sources on Steady-state Stability of Weak AC/DC Systems显示文摘In recent years,the penetration of renewable resources into AC power systems has increased tremendously,creating a significantly impact on the latter’s operations and stability.In this respect,it is also important to gain a basic analytical understanding of such impact on the steady-state stability of power systems with electrically weak AC/DC interconnections,but such works are not very evident in the literature.Therefore,a classical analytic model of the single and multi-infeed HVDC system which now incorporates renewable resources is proposed.Then the well-established concept of voltage sensitivity of the AC/DC interconnection is applied to analyze the impact of the renewable resources on the steady-state stability of these composite system models,as well as on the influence of system conditions and parameters.This impact is also compared with that arising from other types of shunt devices alternatively connected at the same AC/DC interconnection,therefore their relative beneficial or negative impacts will also be benchmarked.Denis Lee Hau Aik Göran Andersson 2017CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2017,3,4:11
4Spectrum of NSD1 gene mutations in southern Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome显示文摘Background Sotos syndrome is an overgrowth syndrome with characteristic facial gestalt and mental retardation of variable severity. Haploinsufficiency of the NSD1 gene has been implicated as the major cause of Sotos syndrome, with a predominance of microdeletions reported in Japanese patients. This study was conducted to investigate into the spectrum of NSD1 gene mutations in southern Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome. Methods Thirty-six Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome and two patients with Weaver syndrome were subject to molecular testing. Results NSD1 gene mutations were detected in 26 (72%) Sotos patients. Microdeletion was found in only 3 patients, while the other 23 had point mutations (6 frameshift, 8 nonsense, 2 spice site, and 7 missense). Of these, 19 mutations were never reported. NSD1 gene mutations were not found in the two patients with Weaver syndrome. Conclusions Most cases of Sotos syndrome are caused by NSD1 gene defects, but the spectrum of mutations is different from that of Japanese patients. Genotype-phenotype correlation showed that patients with microdeletions might be more prone to congenital heart disease but less likely to have somatic overgrowth. 6NYD-SP27,a novel intrinsic decapacitation factor in sperm显示文摘Prior to fertilization sperm has to undergo an activation process known as capaciation,leading to the acrosome reaction.Till now,little is known about the mechanism for preventing premature capacitation in sperm although decapacitation factors from various sources have been thought to be involved.In this study,we report that NYD-SP27,an isoform of phospholipase C Zeta 1(PLCZ1),is localized to the sperm acrosome in mouse and human spermatozoa by immunofluorescence using a specific antibody.Western blot and double staining analyses show NYD-SP27 becomes detached from sperm,as they undergo capacitation and acrosome reaction.The absence of HCO_(3)^(-),a key factor in activating capacitation,from the capacitation-inducing medium prevents the loss of NYD-SP27 from sperm.The anti-NYD-SP27 antibody also prevents the loss of NYD-SP27 from sperm,reduced the number of capacitated sperm,inhibited the acrosome reaction induced by ATP and progesterone,and inhibited agonist-induced PLC-coupled Ca^(2+)mobilization in sperm,which can be mimicked by the PLC inhibitor,U73122.These data strongly suggest that NYD-SP27 is a physiological inhibitor of PLC that acts as an intrinsic decapacitation factor in sperm to prevent premature capacitation and acrosome reaction.Ye Bi Wen-Ming Xu Hau Yan Wong Hui Zhu Zuo-Min Zhou Hsiao Chang Chan Jia-Hao Sha 2009Asian Journal of Andrology2009,11,2:8
7Polymorphisms of MTHFR and susceptibility to oesophageal adenocarcinoma in a Caucasian United Kingdom population显示文摘AIM:To identify if methylene tetra-hydrofolatereductase(MTHFR)C677T polymorphisms are associated with oesophageal adenocarcnomas in a Caucasian population and to test whether folic acid and homocysteine levels are linked with cancer risk.METHODS:A case control study comprising of 58 non cancer and 48 cancer patients,MTHFR C667T genotyping was made and serum folate,homocysteine and vitamin B12 levels were made.Tumour stage,differentiation and survival was recorded.A P value of less than0.05 was taken to be significant.Theχ2 used to compare discrete variables and the Mantel-Cox was used to compare survival.A P value less than 0.05 was deemed to be significant.RESULTS:MTHFR polymorphisms is associated with an increased risk of several cancers.A link between MTHFR C677T polymorphisms and oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma and gastric cardia adenocarcinoma has been demonstrated in at risk Chinese populations.In a Western European population the role of the MTHFR gene has not previously been investigated in the setting of oesophageal adenocarcinoma.No association between folic acid levels and cancer patients was found.The unstable MTHFR 667 TT genotype occurred in 11%cancers and 7%controls,but statistical significance was not reached,homocysteine levels and folic acid levels were not affected,cancer patients with TT genotype displayed a trend for a shorter survival 7 mo vs 20 mo.Serum vitamin B12 levels were higher in the cancer group.The MTHFR 667 TT genotype is much lower than previous population studies.CONCLUSION:We conclude that serum folic acid and MTHFR polymorphisms are not associated with an increased risk of oesophageal adenocarcinoma,although cancers with unstable TT genotype may indicate a more aggressive disease course.Richard Keld Manyi Thian Chia Hau Jamil Sajid Narveen Kumar Yeng Ang 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,34:8
8Orthotopic liver transplantation for giant liver haemangioma: A case report显示文摘In liver haemangiomas, the risk of complication rises with increasing size, and treatment can be obligatory. Here we present a case of a 46-year-old female who suffered from a giant haemangioma causing severe portal hypertension and vena cava compression, leading to therapy refractory ascites, hyponatremia and venostasis-associated thrombosis with pulmonary embolism. The patients did not experience tumour rupture or consumptive coagulopathy. Surgical resection was impossible because of steatosis of the non-affected liver. Orthotopic liver transplantation was identified as the only treatment option. The patient's renal function remained stable even though progressive morbidity and organ allocation were improbable according to the patient's lab model for end-stage liver disease(lab MELD) score. Therefore, non-standard exception status was approved by the European organ allocation network 'Eurotransplant'. The patient underwent successful orthotopic liver transplantation 16 mo after admission to our centre. Our case report indicates the underrepresentation of morbidity associated with refractory ascites in the lab MELD-based transplant allocation system, and it indicates the necessity of promptly applying for non-standard exception status to enable transplantation in patients with a severe clinical condition but low lab MELD score. 9Profiles and removal efficiency of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by two different types of sewage treatment plants in Hong Kong显示文摘Sewage discharge could be a major source of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in the coastal waters. Stonecutters Island and Shatin Sewage Treatment Works(SCISTW and STSTW)in Hong Kong, adopted chemically enhanced primary treatment and biological treatment,respectively. This study aimed at(1) determining the removal efficiencies of PAHs,(2) comparing the capabilities in removing PAHs, and(3) characterizing the profile of each individual PAHs, in the two sewage treatment plants(STPs). Quantification of 16 PAHs was conducted by a Gas Chromatography. The concentrations of total PAHs decreased gradually along the treatment processes(from 301 ± 255 and 307 ± 217 ng/L to 14.9 ± 12.1 and 63.3 ± 54.1 ng/L in STSTW and SCISTW, respectively). It was noted that STSTW was more capable in removing total PAHs than SCISTW with average total removal efficiency 94.4% ± 4.12% vs. 79.2% ± 7.48%(p < 0.05). The removal of PAHs was probably due to sorption in particular matter, confirmed by the higher distribution coefficient of individual and total PAHs in solid samples(dewatered sludge contained92.5% and 74.7% of total PAHs in SCISTW and STSTW, respectively) than liquid samples(final effluent-total contained 7.53% and 25.3% of total PAHs in STSTW and SCISTW, respectively).Despite the impressive capability of STSTW and SCISTW in removing PAHs, there was still a considerable amount of total PAHs(1.85 and 39.3 kg/year, respectively for the two STPs) being discharged into Hong Kong coastal waters, which would be an environmental concern.Yu Bon Man Ka Lai Chow Zhang Cheng Wing Yin Mo Yung Hau Chan James Chung Wah Lam Frankie Tat Kwong Lau Wing Cheong Fung Ming Hung Wong 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,3:5

12FeCo alloy@N-doped graphitized carbon as an efficient cocatalyst for enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution by inducing accelerated charge transfer显示文摘Cocatalysts play important roles in improving the activity and stability of most photocatalysts.It is of great significance to develop economical,efficient and stable cocatalysts.Herein,using Na2CoFe(CN)6 complex as precursor,a novel noble-metal-free FeCo@NGC cocatalyst(nano-FeCo alloy@N-doped graphitized carbon) is fabricated by a simple pyrolysis method.Coupling with g-C3 N4, the optimal FeCo@NGC/g-C3N4 receives a boosted visible light driven photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of 42.2 μmol h-1, which is even higher than that of 1.0 wt% Pt modified g-C3N4 photocatalyst.Based on the results of density functional theory(DFT) calculations and practical experiment measurements,such outstanding photocatalytic performance of FeCo@NGC/g-C3N4 is mainly attributed to two aspects.One is the accelerated charge transfer behavior,induced by a photogene rated electrons secondary transfer performance on the surface of FeCo alloy nanoparticles.The other is related to the adjustment of H adsorption energy(approaching the standard hydrogen electrode potential) by the presence of external NGC thin layer.Both factors play key roles in the H2 evolution reaction.Such outstanding performance highlights an enormous potential of developing noble-metal-free bimetallic nano-alloy as inexpensive and efficient cocatalysts for solar applications.Sibo Chen Yun Hau Ng Jihai Liao Qiongzhi Gao Siyuan Yang Feng Peng Xinhua Zhong Yueping Fang Shengsen Zhang 2021Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,1:3
13Intravenous fluid selection rationales in acute clinical management显示文摘BACKGROUND: Intravenous fluid(IVF) is commonly used in acute clinical management. This study aimed to review the choice and primary considerations in IVF prescriptions and to evaluate the adequacy of guidelines and trainings on it in the New Territories West Cluster(NTWC) of Hong Kong.METHODS: This is a descriptive study based on data collected from an online survey. Data were processed by SPSS for statistical analysis. This study focused on a general description and doctor-nurse between group comparison. Participants were asked the choice of IVF for nine acute clinical scenarios and provide reason. A 1–10 scale was used to assess the sufficiency of guideline, training and information, and time for revision on IVF prescription.RESULTS: 0.9% sodium chloride was the most familiar IVF(36%), followed by 5% Dextrose solution(26%). In the nine scenarios, the most chosen IVF was 0.9% sodium chloride(37%–61%). There was significant difference in the choice of IVF between doctors and nurses in 7 cases. The second most chosen IVF for doctors was Plasma-Lyte A while that for nurses was Gelofusine. Departmental practice was the most chosen reason to account for the prescription. The adequacy of guideline, information and training, and time for revision was rated 5. Doctors had significantly more time at work than nurses to update knowledge in IVF prescription(5.41 versus 4.57).CONCLUSION: 0.9% sodium chloride was mostly chosen. The choice of IVF was mainly based on departmental practice.
