1Management of necrotizing pancreatitis显示文摘Infection complicating pancreatic necrosis leads to persisting sepsis, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and accounts for about half the deaths that occur following acute pancreatitis. Severe cases due to gallstones require urgent endoscopic sphincterotomy. Patients with pancreatic necrosis should be followed with serial contrast enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) and if infection is suspected fine needle aspiration of the necrotic area for bacteriology (FNAB) should be undertaken. Treatment of sterile necrosis should initially be non-operative. In the presence of infection necrosectomy is indicated. Although traditionally this has been by open surgery, minimally invasive procedures are a promising new alternative. There are many unresolved issues in the management of pancreatic necrosis. 2Changes in distribution and microstructure of bauxite residue aggregates following amendments addition显示文摘Bauxite residue is a highly alkaline byproduct which is routinely discarded at residue disposal areas. Improving soil formation process to revegetate the special degraded lands is a promising strategy for sustainable management of the refining industry. A laboratory incubation experiment was used to evaluate the effects of gypsum and vermicompost on stable aggregate formation of bauxite residue. Aggregate size distribution was quantified by fractal theory, whilst residue microstructure was determined by scanning electron microscopy and synchrotron-based X-ray micro-computed tomography. Amendments addition increased the content of macro-aggregates(> 250 μm) and enhanced aggregate stability of bauxite residue. Following gypsum and vermicompost addition, fractal dimension decreased from 2.84 to 2.77, which indicated a more homogeneous distribution of aggregate particles. Images from scanning electron microscopy and three-dimensional microstructure demonstrated that amendments stimulate the formation of improved structure in residue aggregates. Pore parameters including porosity, pore throat surface area, path length, and path tortuosity increased under amendment additions. 4Arsenic dynamics in the rhizosphere and its sequestration on rice roots as affected by root oxidation显示文摘A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of root oxidation on arsenic(As) dynamics in the rhizosphere and As sequestration on rice roots. There were significant differences(P < 0.05) in pH values between rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils, with pH 5.68–6.16 in the rhizosphere and 6.30–6.37 in non-rhizosphere soils as well as differences in redox potentials(P < 0.05). Percentage arsenite was lower(4%–16%) in rhizosphere soil solutions from rice genotypes with higher radial oxygen loss(ROL) compared with genotypes with lower ROL(P < 0.05). Arsenic concentrations in iron plaque and rice straw were significantly negatively correlated(R =-0.60, P < 0.05). Genotypes with higher ROL(TD71 and Yinjingruanzhan) had significantly(P < 0.001) lower total As in rice grains(1.35 and 0.96 mg/kg, respectively) compared with genotypes with lower ROL(IAPAR9, 1.68 mg/kg; Nanyangzhan 2.24 mg/kg) in the As treatment, as well as lower inorganic As(P < 0.05). The present study showed that genotypes with higher ROL could oxidize more arsenite in rhizosphere soils, and induce more Fe plaque formation, which subsequently sequestered more As. This reduced As uptake in aboveground plant tissues and also reduced inorganic As accumulation in rice grains. 5赤泥碱性阴离子浸出优化及溶解行为(英文)显示文摘赤泥是氧化铝工业生产过程中产生的高碱性固体废弃物。基于单因素-正交实验开展赤泥碱性阴离子浸出特性研究,结合多级浸出实验探讨最佳浸出条件、碱性阴离子分布特征、关键碱性离子类型及其溶解行为。结果表明:在液固比2 mL/g、浸出温度30°C、浸出时间23 h、2次浸出条件下,可溶性碱性阴离子(CO^(2-)_3,HCO^-_4,Al(OH)^-_4,OH^-)的最佳浸出率达86%;赤泥1次浸出液中,88%的阴离子来源于可溶性碱(NaOH、碳酸盐、碳酸氢盐、NaAl(OH)_4),12%的阴离子来源于化学结合碱(方解石、钙霞石、水化石榴石);在最佳浸出条件下,可溶性碱性离子浸出总浓度为69.78 mmol/L,CO^(2-)_3约占75%;碳酸盐溶解反应的表观活化能为10.24k J/mol,这主要受固膜扩散控制。李晓飞 叶羽真 薛生国 江钧 吴川 孔祥峰 William Hartley 李义伟 2018Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China2018,28,6:10
6赤泥堆场先锋植物的盐分积累及分布特性(英文)显示文摘盐分含量高是影响赤泥堆场植物生长的主要限制因子之一。通过对一个20多年的赤泥堆场开展生态调查,研究了先锋植物盐分积累及分布特性。结果发现:赤泥堆场出现14种先锋植物;根系土Na^+平均含量为19.5 cmol/kg,这表明先锋植物具有较高的盐耐性;植物地上部分Na^+含量差异明显,马唐地上部Na^+含量仅0.84 cmol/kg,扫帚苗地上部Na^+含量高达39.7cmol/kg;马唐Na^+迁移系数为0.13,水柏枝的Na^+迁移系数高达2.92;扫帚苗和水柏枝的Na富集系数为2.66和3.29;狗牙根和马唐的Na^+积累系数分别为0.07和0.04;扫帚苗、水柏枝、狗牙根和马唐均可作为赤泥堆场植被重建的先锋植物。研究结果为赤泥土壤化和堆场生态重建提供了科学参考。黄楠 唐璐 朱锋 吴川 HARTLEY William 周晶菊 薛生国 2019Journal of Central South University2019,26,2:6

8赤泥碱性调控行为:石膏的钙驱动稳定化特性(英文)显示文摘赤泥是一种强碱性固体废弃物,其碱性阴离子(CO_3^(2–), HCO_3~–, Al(OH)_4~–, OH~–)的释放极易引发重大环境问题。本文研究了施用后石膏赤泥碱性阴离子组分的变化、碱性物相转化路径以及固相微观形态转变特征,结果表明:石膏作用下的赤泥液相体系碱性阴离子稳定率高达96.29%,pH和液相碱性分别由10.47降至8.15,47.39 mmol/L降至2 mmol/L;在赤泥碱性稳定化过程中,化学调控行为表现在驱动赤泥典型碱性离子(CO_3^(2–), HCO_3~–, Al(OH)_4~–, OH~–)的沉淀及离子间的共沉淀,碳酸钙(CaCO_3)是主要的碱性转化产物。借助X射线衍射分析、扫描电镜和能谱等方法分析发现石膏钙离子溶出可促使赤泥表面细小颗粒溶解转化为稳定碱性物相,同时赤泥微观形态向致密的大颗粒块状结构转变,含钙物相附着于致密块状团聚体表面形成的物理封存方式提高了碱性转化产物及原生赤泥碱性组分的稳定性。研究结果将为应用石膏类工业废弃物开展赤泥碱性调控及堆场生态修复提供理论基础。李晓飞 郭颖 朱锋 黄隆斌 William HARTLEY 李义伟 孔祥峰 薛生国 2019Journal of Central South University2019,26,2:5
9Effect of amendments on the leaching behavior of alkaline anions and metal ions in bauxite residue显示文摘A column leaching experiment was used to investigate the efficacy of amendments on their ability to remove alkaline anions and metal ions from bauxite residue leachates.Treatments included,simulated acid rain (AR),phosphogypsum + vermicompost (PVC),phosphogypsum + vermicompost + simulated acid rain (PVA),and biosolids + microorganisms (BSM) together with controls (CK).Results indicated that amendment could effectively reduce the leachate pH and EC values,neutralize OH-,CO32-,HCO3-,and water soluble alkali,and suppress arsenic (As) content.Correlation analysis revealed significant linear correlations with pH and concentrations of OH-,CO32-,HCO3-,water-soluble alkali,and metal ions.BSM treatment showed optimum results with neutralizing anions (OH-,CO32-,and HCO3-),water soluble alkali,and removal of metal ions (Al,As,B,Mo,V,and Na),which was attributed to neutralization from the generation of small molecular organic acids and organic matter during microbial metabolism.BSM treatment reduced alkaline anions and metal ions based on neutralization reactions in bauxite residue leachate,which reduced the potential pollution effects from leachates on the soil surrounding bauxite residue disposal areas.Tao Tian Jinaju Zhou Feng Zhu Yuzhen Ye Ying Guo William Hartley Shengguo Xue 2019Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,11:5
10Autoantibodies to apolipoprotein A-1 as a biomarker of cardiovascular autoimmunity显示文摘Immune-driven inflammation plays an important part inatherogenesis and is therefore believed to be key to thedevelopment of cardiovascular disease(CVD), whichis currently the leading cause of death in the Westernworld. By fulfilling some of the Koch postulates, athero-genesis has even been proposed to be considered as anautoimmune disease, raising the hope that CVD couldbe prevented by immunomodulation. Nevertheless,the role of the immune system and autoimmune reac-tions in atherosclerosis appear to be a double edged-sword, with both pro-atherogenic and anti-atherogenicattributes. Hence, if immunomodulation is to becomea therapeutic option for atherosclerosis and CVD, it willbe crucial to correctly identify patients who might ben-efit from targeted suppression of deleterious autoim-mune responses. This could be achieved, for example, by the detection of disease-associated autoantibodies. In this work, we will review the currently available clini-cal, in vitro, and animal studies dedicated to autoan-tibodies against apolipoprotein A-1(anti-apoA-1 IgG), the major proteic fraction of high density lipoprotein. Current clinical studies indicate that high levels of anti-apoA-1 IgG are associated with a worse cardiovascular prognosis. 12Adjuvant therapy in pancreatic cancer显示文摘The outlook for patients with pancreatic cancer has been grim. There have been major advances in the surgical treatment of pancreatic csncer, leading to a drsmatic reduction in post-operative mortality from the development of high volume specialized centres. This stimulated the study of adjuvant and neoadjuvant treatments in pancreatic cancer including chemoradiotherapy and chemotherapy. Initial protocols have been based on the original but rather small GITSG study first reported in 1985. There have been two large European trials totalling over 600 patients (EORTC and ESPAC-1) that do not support the use of chemoradiation as adjuvant therapy. A second major finding from the ESPAC-1 trial (541 patients randomized) was some but not conclusive evidence for a survival benefit associated with chemotherapy. 13Ecosystem service delivery in Karst landscapes: anthropogenic perturbation and recovery显示文摘Covering extensive parts of China, Karst landscapes are exceptional because rapid and intensive land use change has caused severe ecosystem degradation within only the last 50 years. The twentieth century intensification in food production through agriculture has led to a rapid deterioration of soil quality, evidenced in reduced crop production and rapid loss of soil. In many areas, a tipping point appears to have been passed as basement rock is exposed and 'rocky desertification' dominates. Through the establishment of the 'Soil processes and ecological services in the karst critical zone of SW China'(SPECTRA)Critical Zone Observatory(CZO) we will endevaour to understand the fundmental processes involved in soil production and erosion, and investigate the integrated geophysical-geochemical-ecological responses of the CZ to perturbations. The CZ spans a gradient from undisturbed natural vegetation through human perturbed landscapes.We seek to understand the importance of heterogeneity insurface and below-ground morphology and flow pathways in determining the spatial distribution of key stocks(soil,C, vegetation, etc.) and their control on ecosystem service delivery. We will assess the extent to which the highly heterogeneous critical zone resources can be restored to enable sustainable delivery of ecosystem services. 15Role of post-translational modification of the Y box binding protein 1 in human cancers显示文摘Y box binding protein-1(YBX1)belongs to a DNA-and RNA-binding family of transcription factors,containing the highly conserved cold shock domain(CSD).YBX1 is involved in a number of cellular functions including transcription,translation,DNA damage repair etc.,and it is upregulated during times of environmental stress.YBX1 is localized in both the cytoplasm and the nucleus.There,its nuclear translocation is observed in a number of cancers and is associated with poor prognosis and disease progression.Additionally,YBX1 expression is upregulated in a variety of cancers,pointing towards its role as a potential oncogene.Under certain circumstances,YBX1 also promotes the expression of multidrug resistance 1(MDR1)gene,which is involved in the development of drug resistance.Thus,it is critical to understand the mechanism of YBX1 regulation and its downstream effects on promoting cancer development.A number of recent studies have highlighted the mechanisms of YBX1 regulation.Mass spectrometric analyses have reported several post-translational modifications that possibly play an important role in modulating YBX1 function.Phosphorylation is the most widely occurring post-translational modification in YBX1.In vivo analyses of sites like S102 and more recently,S165 illustrate the relationship of post-translational regulation of YBX1 in promoting cell proliferation and tumor growth.This review provides a comprehensive and up-to-date account of post-translational modifications identified in YBX1.This knowledge is a key in allowing us to better understand the mechanism of YBX1 regulation,which will aid in development of novel therapeutic strategies to target YBX1 in many types of cancer in the future.Lakshmi Prabhu Antja-Voy Hartley Matthew Martin Fadumo Warsame Emily Sun Tao Lu 2015Genes & Diseases2015,2,3:3

17Improvements on physical conditions of bauxite residue following application of organic materials显示文摘Soil formation and ecological rehabilitation is the most promising strategy to eliminate environmental risks of bauxite residue disposal areas. Its poor physical structure is nevertheless a major limitation to plant growth. Organic materials were demonstrated as effective ameliorants to improve the physical conditions of bauxite residue. In this study, three different organic materials including straw(5% W/W), humic acid(5% W/W), and humic acidacrylamide polymer(0.2% and 0.4%, W/W) were selected to evaluate their effects on physical conditions of bauxite residue pretreated by phosphogypsum following a 120-day incubation experiment. The proportion of 2-1 mm macro-aggregates, mean weight diameter(MWD) and geometric mean diameter(GWD) increased following organic materials addition, which indicated that organic materials could enhance aggregate stability. Compared with straw, and humic acid, humic acid-acrylamide polymer application had improved effects on the formation of water-stable aggregates in the residues. Furthermore, organic materials increased the total porosity, total pore volume and average pore diameter, and reduced the micropore content according to nitrogen gas adsorption(NA) and mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)analysis, whilst enhancing water retention of the residues based on water characteristic curves. Compared with traditional organic wastes, humic acid-acrylamide polymer could be regarded as a candidate according to the comprehensive consideration of the additive amount and the effects on physical conditions of bauxite residue. 19Variation on leaching behavior of caustic compounds in bauxite residue during dealkalization process显示文摘Bauxite residue,a byproduct of alumina manufacture,is a serious environmental pollutant due to its high leaching contents of metals and caustic compounds.Four typical anions of CO3^2-,HCO3^-,Al(OH)4^- and OH-(represented caustic compounds) and metal ions(As,B,Mo and V) were selected to assess their leaching behavior under dealkalization process with different conditions including liquid/solid ratio(L/S ratio),temperature and leaching time.The results revealed that washing process could remove the soluble composition in bauxite residue effectively.The leaching concentrations of typical anions in bauxite residue decreased as follows:c(CO3^2-)> c(HCO3^-)> c[Al(OH)4-]> c(OH-).L/S ratio had a more significant effect on leaching behavior of OH-,whilst the leaching concentration of Al(OH)4-varied larger underleaching temperature and time treatment.Under the optimal leaching,the total alkaline,soluble Na concentrations,exchangeable Ca concentrations were 79.52,68.93,and 136.0 mmol/L,respectively,whilst the soluble and exchangeable content of As,B,Mo and V in bauxite residue changed slightly.However,it should be noted that water leaching has released metal ions such as As,B,Mo and V in bauxite residue to the surrounding environment.The semiquantitative analysis of XRD revealed that water leaching increased the content of gismondine from 2.4% to 6.4%.The SEM images demonstrated the dissolution of caustic compounds on bauxite residue surface.The correlation analysis indicated that CO3^2- and HCO3^- could effectively reflect the alkalinity of bauxite residue,and may be regarded as critical de alkalization indicators to evaluate alkalinity removal in bauxite residue.Yujun Wu Meng Li Feng Zhu William Hartley Jiaxin Liao Wenhui An Shengguo Xue Jun Jiang 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,6:2
