1Applying Neural-Network-Based Machine Learning to Additive Manufacturing:Current Applications,Challenges,and Future Perspectives显示文摘Additive manufacturing(AM),also known as three-dimensional printing,is gaining increasing attention from academia and industry due to the unique advantages it has in comparison with traditional subtractive manufacturing.However,AM processing parameters are difficult to tune,since they can exert a huge impact on the printed microstructure and on the performance of the subsequent products.It is a difficult task to build a process-structure-property-performance(PSPP)relationship for AM using traditional numerical and analytical models.Today,the machine learning(ML)method has been demonstrated to be a valid way to perform complex pattern recognition and regression analysis without an explicit need to construct and solve the underlying physical models.Among ML algorithms,the neural network(NN)is the most widely used model due to the large dataset that is currently available,strong computational power,and sophisticated algorithm architecture.This paper overviews the progress of applying the NN algorithm to several aspects of the AM whole chain,including model design,in situ monitoring,and quality evaluation.Current challenges in applying NNs to AM and potential solutions for these problems are then outlined.Finally,future trends are proposed in order to provide an overall discussion of this interdisciplinary area.Xinbo Qi Guofeng Chen Yong Li Xuan Cheng Changpeng Li 2019Engineering2019,5,4:11
2Efficient degradation of chlorobenzene in a non-thermal plasma catalytic reactor supported on CeO_2/HZSM-5 catalysts显示文摘Chlorobenzene removal was investigated in a non-thermal plasma reactor using CeO_2/HZSM-5catalysts.The performance of catalysts was evaluated in terms of removal and energy efficiency.The decomposition products of chlorobenzene were analyzed.The results show that CeO_2/HZSM-5 exhibited a good catalytic activity,which resulted in enhancements of chlorobenzene removal,energy efficiency,and the formation of lower amounts of by-products.With regards to CO_2 selectivity,the presence of catalysts favors the oxidation of by-products,leading to a higher CO_2 selectivity.With respect to ozone,which is considered as an unavoidable by-product in air plasma reactors,a noticeable decrease in its concentration was observed in the presence of catalysts.Furthermore,the stability of the catalyst was investigated by analyzing the evolution of conversion in time.The experiment results indicated that CeO_2/HZSM-5 catalysts have excellent stability:chlorobenzene conversion only decreased from 78%to 60%after 75 hr,which means that the CeO_2/HZSM-5 suffered a slight deactivation.Some organic compounds and chlorinated intermediates were adsorbed or deposited on the catalysts surface as shown by the results of Fourier Transform Infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy,scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS) analyses of the catalyst before and after the reaction,revealing the cause of catalyst deactivation.Liying Jiang Guofeng Nie Runye Zhu Jiade Wang Jianmeng Chen Yubo Mao Zhuowei Cheng Willam A.Anderson 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,5:8

4The heterogeneity of islet autoantibodies and the progression of islet failure in type 1 diabetic patients显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients. A total of 1,291 type 1 diabetic patients were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Laboratory tests including mixed-meal tolerance test, human leukocyte antigen alleles, hemoglobin A1 c, lipids, thyroid function and islet autoantibodies were conducted. The frequency of islet-specific autoantibody in newly diagnosed T1 DM patients(duration shorter than half year) was 73% in East China. According to binary logistic regressions, autoantibody positivity, longer duration and lower Body Mass Index were the risk factors of islet failure. As the disease developed, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase declined as well as the other two autoantibodies against zinc transporter 8 and islet antigen 2. The decrease of autoantibodies was positively correlated with aggressive beta cell destruction. Autoantibodies can facilitate the identification of classic T1 DM from other subtypes and predict the progression of islet failure. 5Substantial transition to clean household energy mix in rural China显示文摘The household energy mix has significant impacts on human health and climate,as it contributes greatly to many health-and climate-relevant air pollutants.Compared to the well-established urban energy statistical system,the rural household energy statistical system is incomplete and is often associated with high biases.Via a nationwide investigation,this study revealed high contributions to energy supply from coal and biomass fuels in the rural household energy sector,while electricity comprised∼20%.Stacking(the use of multiple sources of energy)is significant,and the average number of energy types was 2.8 per household.Compared to 2012,the consumption of biomass and coals in 2017 decreased by 45%and 12%,respectively,while the gas consumption amount increased by 204%.Increased gas and decreased coal consumptions were mainly in cooking,while decreased biomass was in both cooking(41%)and heating(59%).The time-sharing fraction of electricity and gases(E&G)for daily cooking grew,reaching 69%in 2017,but for space heating,traditional solid fuels were still dominant,with the national average shared fraction of E&G being only 20%.The non-uniform spatial distribution and the non-linear increase in the fraction of E&G indicated challenges to achieving universal access to modern cooking energy by 2030,particularly in less-developed rural and mountainous areas.In some non-typical heating zones,the increased share of E&G for heating was significant and largely driven by income growth,but in typical heating zones,the time-sharing fraction was<5%and was not significantly increased,except in areas with policy intervention.The intervention policy not only led to dramatic increases in the clean energy fraction for heating but also accelerated the clean cooking transition.Higher income,higher education,younger age,less energy/stove stacking and smaller family size positively impacted the clean energy transition.Guofeng Shen Rui Xiong Yanlin Tian Zhihan Luo Bahabaike Jiangtulu Wenjun Meng Wei Du Jing Meng Yuanchen Chen Bing Xue Bin Wang Yonghong Duan Jia Duo Fenggui Fan Lei Huang Tianzhen Ju Fenggui Liu Shunxin Li Xianli Liu Yungui Li Mu Wang Ying Nan Bo Pan Yanfang Pan Lizhi Wang Eddy Zeng Chao Zhan Yilin Chen Huizhong Shen Hefa Cheng Shu Tao 2022National Science Review2022,9,7:4
6Fractal characterization for the mining crack evolution process of overlying strata based on microseismic monitoring technology显示文摘In order to study the evolution laws during the development process of the coal face overburden rock mining-induced fissure,we studied the process of evolution of overburden rock mining-induced fissures and dynamically quantitatively described its fractal laws,based on the high-precision microseismic monitoring method and the nonlinear Fractal Geometry Theory.The results show that:the overburden rock mining-induced fissure fractal dimension experiences two periodic change processes with the coal face advance,namely a Small→ Big→ Small process,which tends to be stable;the functional relationship between the extraction step distance and the overburden rock mining-induced fissure fractal dimension is a cubic curve.The results suggest that the fractal dimension reflects the evolution characteristics of the overburden rock mining-induced fissure,which can be used as an evaluation index of the stability of the overburden rock strata,and it provides theoretical guidance for stability analysis of the overburden rock strata,goaf roof control and the support movements in the mining face.Liu Chao Xue Junhu Yu Guofeng Cheng Xiaoyu 2016International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2016,26,2:4
7Residual stress variation in SiC_(f)/SiC composite during heat treatment and its effects on mechanical behavior显示文摘Residual stress originated from thermal expansion mismatch determines the mechanical properties of ceramic matrix composites(CMCs).Here,continuous SiC fiber reinforced SiC matrix(SiC_(f)/SiC)composites were fabricated by nano-infiltration and transient eutectic-phase(NITE)method,and the residual stress of the composites was investigated using high-temperature Raman spectrometer.With temperature increasing from room temperature to 1400℃,the residual stresses of the matrix and the fiber decrease from 1.29 to 0.62 GPa and from 0.84 to 0.55 GPa in compression respectively,while that of the interphase decreases from 0.16 to 0.10 GPa in tension.The variation of residual stress shows little effect on the tensile strength of the composites,while causes a slight decrease in the tensile strain.The suppression of fiber/matrix debonding and fiber pulling-out caused by the residual stress reduction in the interphase is responsible for the decreasing tensile strain.This work can open up new alternatives for residual stress analysis in CMCs.Xiaowu CHEN Guofeng CHENG Junmin ZHANG Feiyu GUO Haijun ZHOU Chunjin LIAO Hongda WANG Xiangyu ZHANG Shaoming DONG 2020Journal of Advanced Ceramics2020,9,5:3

11A potent neutralizing antibody provides protection against SARS-CoV-2 Omicron and Delta variants via nasal delivery显示文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is still rapidly spreading worldwide.Many drugs and vaccines have been approved for clinical use show efficacy in the treatment and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 infections.However,the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern(VOCs),such as Delta(B.1.617.2)and the recently emerged Omicron(B.1.1.529),has seriously challenged the application of current therapeutics.Therefore,there is still a pressing need for identification of new broad-spectrum antivirals.Here,we further characterized a human antibody(58G6),which we previously isolated from a patient,with a broadly authentic virus-neutralizing activity that inhibits the Delta and Omicron variants with half-maximal inhibitory concentrations(ICso)of 1.69 ng/ml and 54.31 ng/ml,respectively.58G6 shows prophylactic and therapeutic effcacy in hamsters challenged with the Delta and Omicron variants through nasal delivery.Notably,a very low dosage(2 mg/kg daily)of 58G6 efficiently prevented Omicron variant replication in the lungs.These advantages may overcome the efficacy limitation of currently approved neutralizing antibodies that can be administered only by intravenous injection.In general,58G6 is a promising prophylactic and therapeutic candidate against current circulating VOCs and even future emerging mutants.To the best of our knowledge,58G6 is one of the most potent neutralizing antibodies against Omicron,with a broader spectrum than those approved for clinical use.58G6 could be developed as a nebulized therapy,which would be more cost effective and user friendly and enhance the clinical outcome comparedto thatobtainedwithdirect nasaldelivery.Xinghai Zhang Huajun Zhang Tingting Li Shaohong Chen Feiyang Luo Junhui Zhou Peiyi Zheng Shuyi Song Yan Wu Tengchuan Jin Ni Tang Aishun Jin Chengyong Yang Guofeng Cheng Rui Gong Sandra Chiu Ailong Huang 2022Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,9:1

13Vertically-resolved indoor measurements of air pollution during Chinese cooking显示文摘Chinese cooking features several unique processes,e.g.,stir-frying and pan-frying,which represent important sources of household air pollution.However,factors affecting household air pollution and the vertical variations of indoor pollutants during Chinese cooking are less clear.Here,using low-cost sensors with high time resolutions,we measured concentrations of five gas species and particulate matter(PM)in three different sizes at multiple heights in a kitchen during eighteen different Chinese cooking events.We found indoor gas species were elevated by 21%-106%during cooking,compared to the background,and PMs were elevated by 44%-159%.Vertically,the pollutants concentrations were highly variable during cooking periods.Gas species generally showed a monotonic increase with height,while PMs changed more diversely depending on the cooking activity's intensity.Intense cooking,e.g.,stir-frying,pan-frying,or cooking on high heat,tended to shoot PMs to the upper layers,while moderate ones left PMs within the breathing zone.Individuals with different heights would be subject to different levels of household air pollution exposure during cooking.The high vertical variability challenges the current indoor standard that presumes a uniform pollution level within the breathing zone and thus has important implications for public health and policy making.Shuxiu Zheng Huizhong Shen Guofeng Shen Yilin Chen Jianmin Ma Hefa Cheng Shu Tao 2022Environmental Science and Ecotechnology2022,,4:0
14Global brown carbon emissions from combustion sources显示文摘Light-absorbing organic carbon(OC),sometimes known as Brown Carbon(BrC),has been recognized as an important fraction of carbonaceous aerosols substantially affecting radiative forcing.This study firstly developed a bottom-up estimate of global primary BrC,and discussed its spatiotemporal distribution and source contributions from 1960 to 2010.The global total primary BrC emission from both natural and anthropogenic sources in 2010 was 7.26(5.98-8.93 as an interquartile range)Tg,with 43.5%from anthropogenic sources.High primary BrC emissions were in regions such as Africa,South America,South and East Asia with natural sources(wild fires and deforestation)contributing over 70%in the former two regions,while in East Asia,anthropogenic sources,especially residential solid fuel combustion,accounted for over 80%of the regional total BrC emissions.Globally,the historical trend was mainly driven by anthropogenic sources,which increased from 1960 to 1990 and then started to decline.Residential emissions significantly impacted on emissions and temporal trends that varied by region.In South and Southeast Asia,the emissions increased obviously due to population growth and a slow transition from solid fuels to clean modern energies in the residential sector.It is estimated that in primary OC,the global average was about 20%BrC,but this ratio varied from 13%to 47%,depending on sector and region.In areas with high residential solid fuel combustion emissions,the ratio was generally twice the value in other areas.Uncertainties in the work are associated with the concept of BrC and measurement technologies,pointing to the need for more studies on BrC analysis and quantification in both emissions and the air.Rui Xiong Jin Li Yuanzheng Zhang Lu Zhang Ke Jiang Huang Zheng Shaofei Kong Huizhong Shen Hefa Cheng Guofeng Shen Shu Tao 2022Environmental Science and Ecotechnology2022,,4:0
15A flame-retardant binder with high polysulfide affinity for safe and stable lithium–sulfur batteries显示文摘Lithium-sulfur(Li-S) batteries have shown promises for the next-generation, high-energy electrochemical storage, yet are hindered by rapid performance decay due to the polysulfide shuttle in the cathode and safety concerns about potential thermal runaway. To address the above challenges, herein, we show a flame-retardant cathode binder that simultaneously improves the electrochemical stability and safety of batteries. The combination of soft and hard segments in the polymer framework of binders allows high flexibility and mechanical strength for adapting to the drastic volume change during the Li(de)intercalation of the S cathode. The binder contains a large number of polar groups, which show the high affinity to polysulfides so that they help to anchor active S species at the cathode. These polar groups also help to regulate and facilitate the Li-ion transport, promoting the kinetics of polysulfide conversion reaction. The binder contains abundant phosphine oxide groups, which, in the case of battery's thermal runaway, decompose and release PO· radicals to quench the combustion reactions and stop the fire. Consequently, Li-S batteries using the new cathode binder show the improved electrochemical performance, including a low-capacity decay of 0.046% per cycle for 800 cycles at 1 C and favorable rate capabilities of up to 3 C. 16Effects of interfacial residual stress on mechanical behavior of SiC_(f)/SiC composites显示文摘Layer-structured interphase,existing between reinforcing fiber and ceramics matrix,is an indispensable constituent for fiber-reinforced ceramic composites due to its determinant role in the mechanical behavior of the composites.However,the interphase may suffer high residual stress because of the mismatch of thermal expansion coefficients in the constituents,and this can exert significant influence on the mechanical behavior of the composites.Here,the residual stress in the boron nitride(BN)interphase of continuous SiC fiber-reinforced SiC composites was measured using a micro-Raman spectrometer.The effects of the residual stress on the mechanical behavior of the composites were investigated by correlating the residual stress with the mechanical properties of the composites.The results indicate that the residual stress increases from 26.5 to 82.6 MPa in tension as the fabrication temperature of the composites rises from 1500 to 1650℃.Moreover,the increasing tensile residual stress leads to significant variation of tensile strain,tensile strength,and fiber/matrix debonding mode of the composites.The sublayer slipping of the interphase caused by the residual stress should be responsible for the transformation of the mechanical behavior.This work can offer important guidance for residual stress adjustment in fiber-reinforced ceramic composites.Xiaowu CHEN Guofeng CHENG Jinshan YANG Jianbao HU Chunjin LIAO Xiangyu ZHANG Shaoming DONG 2022Journal of Advanced Ceramics2022,11,1:0
17Theoretical Analysis and Experimental Research of Surface Texture Hydrodynamic Lubrication显示文摘The research on surface texture is developing from single macro-texture to composite micro-nano texture.The current research on the anti-friction mechanism and theoretical models of textures is relatively weak.Studying the characteristics of different types of surface textures and determining the applicable working conditions of each texture is the focus of current research.In this paper,a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication is established based on Navier-Stokes equations.The FLUENT software is used to simulate and analyze the four texture models,explore the dynamic pressure lubrication characteristics of different texture types,and provide data support for texture optimization.The key variable values required by the mathematical model are obtained through the simulation data.The friction coefficient of the texture under different working conditions was measured through friction and wear experiments,and the mathematical model was verified by the experimental results.The research results show that circular texture is suitable for low to medium speed and high load conditions,chevron texture is suitable for medium to high speed and medium to high load conditions,groove texture is suitable for high speed and low load conditions,and composite texture is suitable for high speed and medium to high load conditions.Comparing the experimental results with the results obtained by the mathematical model,it is found that the two are basically the same in the ranking of the anti-friction performance of different textures,and there is an error of 10%−40%in the friction coefficient value.In this study,a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication was proposed,and the solution method of the optimal surface texture model was determined.Dan Li Xuefeng Yang Yuanbo Wu Jian Cheng Shouren Wang Zhuang Wan Wenbo Liu Guofeng Xia 2022Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2022,35,2:0
18Household energy stacking and structures in Pakistan-Results from a multiple-energy study in Azad Kashmir and Punjab显示文摘Solid fuel use(SFU)is common in most developing countries and would release many hazardous air pollutants posing high risks on human health.The Global Burden of Disease(GBD)study highlighted risks associated with household SFU in Pakistan,however,high uncertainties prevail because of scanty data on SFU and unaccounted energy stacking.This study conducted a field campaign aiming at collecting first-hand data on household energy mix in Pakistan.The first survey was in Punjab and Azad Kashmir,and revealed that stacked energy use was pervasive,especially for cooking.The stacking was found to be much more obvious in SFU households(defined as those using SFU dominantly)compared to those non-SFU.There were significantly substantial differences between Azad Kashmir and Punjab because of distinct resources available and economic conditions.Woody materials comprised up to nearly 70% in Azad Kashmir,but in Punjab,gas was frequently used for cooking.Only investigating primary household energy would probably overestimate main energy types that being used for a longer time but underestimated other supplements,suggesting the preference of multiple-energy surveys in household energy studies.Xiaoqiao Jiao Rui Xiong Zhihan Luo Yaojie Li Hefa Cheng Audil Rashid Guofeng Shen Shu Tao 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,11:0
19Bioeffects of Microgravity and Hypergravity on Animals显示文摘Gravity alterations in space cause significant adaptive effects on the human body,including changes to the muscular,skeletal,and vestibular systems.However,multiple factors besides gravity exist in space;therefore,it is difficult to distinguish gravity-related bioeffects from those of the other factors,including radiation.Although everything on the Earth surface is subject to gravity,gravity-induced effects are not explicitly clear.Here,different research methods that have been used in gravity alterations,including parabolic flight,diamagnetic levitation,and centrifuge,are reviewed and compared.The bioeffects that are reported to be associated with altered gravity in animals are summarized,and the potential risks of hypergravity and microgravity are discussed,with a focus on microgravity,which has been studied more extensively.It should be noted that although various microgravity and hypergravity research methods have their limitations,such as the inevitable magnetic field effects in diamagnetic levitation and short duration of parabolic flight,it is evident that ground-based clinical,animal,and cellular experiments that simulate gravity alterations have served as important and necessary complements to space research.These researches not only provide critical and fundamental biological information on the effects of gravity from biomechanics and the biophysical perspectives,but also help in developing future countermeasures for astronauts.Guofeng Cheng Biao Yu Chao Song Vitalii Zablotskii Xin Zhang 2023Chinese Journal of Electrical Engineering2023,9,1:0
20Investigation of Electrical Parameters of Fresh Water and Produced Mixed Injection in High-Salinity Reservoirs显示文摘Assuming a reservoir with a typical salt-lake background in the Qaidam Basin as a testbed,in this study the var-iation law of the rock electrical parameters has been determined through water displacement experiments with different salinities.As made evident by the results,the saturation index increases with the degree of water injec-tion.When the salinity of the injected water is lower than 80000 ppm,the resistivity of the rock samplefirst decreases,then it remains almost constant in an intermediate stage,andfinally it grows,thereby giving rise to a‘U’profile behavior.As the salinity decreases,the water saturation corresponding to the inflection point of the resistivity becomes lower,thereby leading to a wider‘U’type range and a higher terminal resistivity.For dif-ferent samples,higher initial resistivity of the sample in the oil-bearing state,and higher resistivity after low-sali-nity water washing are obtained when a thicker lithology is considered.Jun Li Guofeng Cheng Hongwei Xiao Xiang Li Lizhi Wang Hui Xu Yu Wang Nannan Liu Shangping Chen Xing Shi 2023Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing2023,19,10:0
