| 1 | Dual Resistance of Melon to Fusarium oxysporum Races 0 and 2 and to Papaya ring-spot virus is Controlled by a Pair of Head-to-Head-Oriented NB-LRR Genes of Unusual Architecture显示文摘Dear Editor, Potyviruses such as Papaya ring-spot virus (PRSV) cause important yield losses in cucurbits.Two distinct resistant alleles were identified in the Cucumis melo germplasm.Accession PI 414723 (Supplemental Table 1) possesses monogenic resistance,controlled by the Prv2 allele,and reacts to PRSV by systemic necrotic lesions;plants with the Prv1 allele,described in cultivar WMR-29,remain symptomless (Pitrat and Lecoq,1983).Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.melonis (FUS)exclusively attacks melon,causing severe wilt.Monogenic dominant resistance was described against races 0,1,and 2.The Fom-2 gene,controlling resistance to races 0 and 1,was cloned by Joobeur et al.(2004),and encodes a nucleotide binding domain (NB)-leucine rich repeat (LRR) protein.Our study focused on the Fom-1 gene,which confers resistance to races 0 and 2 (Risser et al.,1976),and on the Prv gene;the two are tightly linked on melon linkage group iX.Molecular markers were developed for the Fom-1/Prv locus,but no study has provided the resolution required for positional cloning. | Yariv Brotman Michael Normantovich Zachi Goldenberg Zvi Zvirin Irina Kovalski Nastacia Stovbun Tirza Doniger Anthony M. | 3 | Systematic review of macular ganglion cell complex analysis using spectral domain optical coherence tomography for glaucoma assessment显示文摘AIM: To review the use of spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT) for macular retinal ganglion cells(RGC) and ganglion cell complex(GCC) measurement in glaucoma assessment, specifically for early detection and detection of disease progression. METHODS: A systematic review was performed by searching Pub Med, Medline, and Web of Science for articles published in English through July 2014 describing the various macular SD-OCT scanning strategies developed for glaucoma assessment. The review focused on papers evaluating the use of macular RGC/GCC SDOCT to detect early glaucoma and its progression. The search included keywords corresponding to the index test(macular ganglion cell/RGC/GCC/Spectral domain OCT), the target condition(glaucoma), and diagnostic performance. The RGC/GCC SD-OCT scanning strategies used to assess glaucoma of most commonly used SD-OCT instruments were described and compared. These included the Cirrus high definition-OCT(Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc., Dublin, CA, United States), RTVue(Optovue, Inc., Fremont, CA, United States), Spectralis(Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) and the 3D OCT 2000(Topcon Corporation, Tokyo, Japan). Studies focusing on the ability of RGC/GCC SD-OCT to detect early glaucomatous damage and on the correlation between glaucomatous progression and RGC/GCC measurement by SD-OCT were reviewed.RESULTS: According to the literature, macular RGC/GCC SD-OCT has high diagnostic power of preperimetric glaucoma, reliable discrimination ability to differentiate between healthy eyes and glaucomatous eyes, with good correlation with visual filed damage. The current data suggests that it may serve as a sensitive detection tool for glaucomatous structural progression even with mild functional progression as the rate of change of RGC/GCC thickness was found to be significantly higher in progressing than in stable eyes. Glaucoma assessment with RGC/GCC SD-OCT was comparable with and sometimes better than circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness measurement.CONCLUSION: An increasing body of evidence supports using macular RGC/GCC thickness as an indicator for early glaucoma. | 6 | CAD患者治疗时血清高密度脂蛋白胆固醇水平增量与心脏性死亡的关系:来自苯扎贝特心肌梗死预防试验显示文摘This study evaluated the association between changes in serum levels of high- density lipoprotein(HDL) cholesterol that occur under bezafibrate therapy and cardiac mortality in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD) who were enrolled in the Bezafibrate Infarction Prevention trial. We compared serum levels of HDL cholesterol in 1,509 patients in tertiles of on- treatment increments with those of 1,517 patients in the placebo group. Long- term follow- up showed that cardiac mortality decreased significantly with increasing tertiles of on- treatment change in HDL cholesterol(9.5% , 6.6% , and 6.3% of patients tertiles 1, 2, and 3, respectively, died of cardiac causes, p for trend=0.02). In multivariate analysis, the magnitude of on- treatment increment of HDL cholesterol was independently associated with a decreased risk of cardiac death(hazard ratio 1.05, 95% confidence interval 0.74 to 1.47, for tertile 1; hazard ratio 0.73, 95% confidence interval 0.50 to 1.07, for tertile 2; hazard ratio 0.65, 95% confidence interval 0.43 to 0.97, for tertile 3, compared with placebo- allocated patients, p for trend=0.02). Analyzing the association with change in HDL cholesterol as a continuous variable showed that the risk of cardiac mortality was decreased by 27% for every 5- mg/dl increase in on- treatment change in HDL cholesterol(p< 0.001). In conclusion, although a definite secondary prevention effect of bezafibrate could not be found when examining the intervention group as a whole, our findings are consistent with a possible independent association between an increase in HDL cholesterol with bezafibrate therapy and a decrease in cardiac mortality. In appropriately selected patients, monitoring short- term response to bezafibrate therapy through change in HDL cholesterol may indicate the potential long- term benefit of the drug. | Goldenberg I.
