6Soil quality assessment across different stands in tropical moist deciduous forests of Nagaland,India显示文摘To analyze the relationship between the management of three forest stand plantations and soil quality in the Dimapur district of the Northeastern Himalayan region,India,three forest soil profiles,covered by different species stands,at three depths were tested for 13 physical and chemical variables.Only four of these variables(electric conductivity,bulk density exchangeable Mg and available P)were included in a minimum data set,after using a varimax rotation algorithm in a principal component analysis,and subsequently used to calculate a soil quality index(SQI).Results showed higher SQIs in the surface layers(0–20 cm depth)than in the deeper ones.Average weighed SQI varied significantly(P<0.05)through the three considered forest sites,with the lowest value at site FS3.These findings reveal that the approach used here is suitable for preliminary screening of the impact of a forestry species on soil,to aid in species selection and improve soil health for afforestation and reforestation projects.Gaurav Mishra Rossana Marzaioli Krishna Giri Shailesh Pandey 2019Journal of Forestry Research2019,30,4:5
7A novel use of TiO_2 fiber for photocatalytic ozonation of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid in aqueous solution显示文摘More efficient oxidation methods are needed to degrade especially newly emerging recalcitrant organic contaminants at low concentrations in the water environment. Reduced photonic efficiency of immobilized TiO2 is a major challenge in TiO2-assisted advanced oxidation processes (AOP). Mineralization of 2,4-dichllorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in low aqueous solution by O3/UV/TiO2 using the world's first high-strength TiO2 fiber was investigated and compared with O3, UV/TiO2, and O3/TiO2 in laboratory batch experiments. The 2,4-D degradation and total organic carbon (TOC) removal followed pseudo first-order reaction kinetic, while their rates in O3/UV/TiO2 were respectively about 1.5 and 2.4 times larger than the summation of the values in O3 and UV/TiO2. The O3/UV/TiO2 was characterized by few aromatics with very low abundance, fast disappearance of aliphatics and more than 95% dechlorination. The discrepancies in organic carbon mass balance among the intermediates and 2,4-D were attributed mainly to few apparently major unidentified intermediates. The significantly enhanced 2,4-D mineralization in O3/UV/TiO2 was attributed to increased ozone dissolution followed by its decomposition, and reduced electron-hole recombination in presence of dissolved ozone resulting in a large number of hydroxyl radical (·OH) generation from more than one parallel path. 8Ciprofloxacin degradation in photo-Fenton and photo-catalytic processes: Degradation mechanisms and iron chelation显示文摘Ciprofloxacin(CIP)is a broad spectrum synthetic antibiotic drug of fluoroquinolones class.CIP can act as a bidentate ligand forming iron complexes during its degradation in the photoFenton process(PFP).This work investigates on PFP for the degradation of CIP to understand the formation mechanism and stability of iron complexes under ultraviolet(UV)-light illumination.A comparison was made with the UV-photocatalysis(UV/TiO_2)process where CIP doesn't form a complex.In PFP,the optimal dose of Fe^(2+)and H_2O_2were found to be 1.25 and10 mmol/L with pH of 3.5.An optimal TiO_2dose of 1.25 g/L was determined in the UV/TiO_2process.Maximum CIP removal and mineralization efficiency of 93.1%and 47.3%were obtained in PFP against 69.7%and 27.6%in the UV/TiO_2process.The mass spectra could identify seventeen intermediate products including iron-CIP complexes in PFP,and only seven intermediate products were found in the UV/TiO_2process with a majority of common products in both the processes.The proposed mechanism supported by the mass spectra bridged the routes of CIP cleavage in the PFP and UV/TiO_2process,and the decomposition pathway of Fe^(3+)-CIP chelate complexes in PFP was also elucidated.Both in PFP and UV/TiO_2processes,the target site of HO~·radical attack was the secondary-N atom present in the piperazine ring of the CIP molecule.The death of Escherichia coli bacteria was 55.7%and 66.8%in comparison to the control media after 45 min of treatment in PFP and UV/TiO_2process,respectively.Ardhendu Sekhar Giri Animes Kumar Golder 2019Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,6:5
9Successful management of hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm complicating chronic pancreatitis by stenting显示文摘A 41-year old alchoholic male with a history of chronic pancreatitis was admitted for nausea, vomiting and weight loss. Angiogram was performed and demonstrated an aneurysmal sac with a narrow neck originating from the inferior aspect of the dista portion of the proper hepatic artery. The origin of the pseudoaneurysm was covered with a 5 mm × 2.5 cm Viabahn cover stent (Gore). A repeat angiogram showed some leak and a second stent (6 mm × 2.3 cm) was deployed and overlapped with the first stent by 3 mm. Contrast was injected and a repeat angiogram demonstrated complete exclusion of the aneurysm. A repeat computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan of the abdomen after 24 h showed successful stenting. 12Adaptive Backstepping Control Design for Semi-Active Suspension of Half-Vehicle With Magnetorheological Damper显示文摘This paper investigates the problem of controlling half-vehicle semi-active suspension system involving a magnetorheological(MR)damper.This features a hysteretic behavior that is presently captured through the nonlinear Bouc-Wen model.The control objective is to regulate well the heave and the pitch motions of the chassis despite the road irregularities.The difficulty of the control problem lies in the nonlinearity of the system model,the uncertainty of some of its parameters,and the inaccessibility to measurements of the hysteresis internal state variables.Using Lyapunov control design tools,we design two observers to get online estimates of the hysteresis internal states and a stabilizing adaptive state-feedback regulator.The whole adaptive controller is formally shown to meet the desired control objectives.This theoretical result is confirmed by several simulations demonstrating the supremacy of the latter compared to the skyhook control and passive suspension.Khalid El Majdoub Fouad Giri Fatima-Zahra Chaoui 2021IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2021,8,3:4

14Status and perspectives of hierarchical porous carbon materials in terms of high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries显示文摘Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries,although a promising candidate of next-generation energy storage devices,are hindered by some bottlenecks in their roadmap toward commercialization.The key challenges include solving the issues such as low utilization of active materials,poor cyclic stability,poor rate performance,and unsatisfactory Coulombic efficiency due to the inherent poor electrical and ionic conductivity of sulfur and its discharged products(e.g.,Li2S2 and Li_(2)S),dissolution and migration of polysulfide ions in the electrolyte,unstable solid electrolyte interphase and dendritic growth on an odes,and volume change in both cathodes and anodes.Owing to the high specific surface area,pore volume,low density,good chemical stability,and particularly multimodal pore sizes,hierarchical porous carbon(HPC)mate rials have received considerable attention for circumventing the above pro blems in Li-S batteries.Herein,recent progress made in the synthetic methods and deployment of HPC materials for various components including sulfur cathodes,separators and interlayers,and lithium anodes in Li-S batteries is presented and summarized.More importantly,the correlation between the structures(pore volume,specific surface area,degree of pores,and heteroatom-doping)of HPC and the electrochemical performances of Li-S batteries is elaborated.Finally,a discussion on the challenges and future perspectives associated with HPCs for Li-S batteries is provided.Yinyu Xiang Liqiang Lu Ajay Giri Prakash Kottapalli Yutao Pei 2022Carbon Energy2022,4,3:3
15Application of subfossil cladocerans(water fleas) in assessing ecological resilience of shallow Yangtze River floodplain lake systems(China)显示文摘Majority of shallow floodplain lake ecosystems of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River(China) have gone through serious eutrophication problems over the recent past. The severe environmental deterioration accompanied by cyanobacterial blooms have become major water resource management challenges in the region. An advanced research method is urgently needed to tackle these challenges. The concept of ecological resilience address pressing questions of non-linear dynamics, threshold effects and regime shifts in shallow floodplain lakes, and help manage the ecosystem effectively. Palaeolimnological techniques are important for assessing long term resilience and associated thresholds effects of shallow lake ecosystems. However, the lack of reliable proxy methods available, the assessment of long term ecological resilience of shallow Yangtze River lake systems has become increasingly difficult. Cladocerans(water fleas) play a central role in lacustrine food webs by responding to external drivers and internal ecosystem processes in lakes. Their subfossils are well preserved and becoming one of potential proxy indicators of lake ecosystems change for a longer time scale. 16Atomic coordination dictates vibrational characteristics and thermal conductivity in amorphous carbon显示文摘We discuss the role of atomic coordination in dictating the vibrational characteristics and thermal conductivity in amorphous carbon.Our systematic atomistic simulations on amorphous carbon structures at varying mass densities show the significant role played by the ratio of sp2 to sp3 hybridized bonds in dictating the contributions from propagating(phonon-like)and non-propagating vibrational modes and their influence on the overall thermal conductivities of the structures.Specifically,our results show that as the concentration of sp3-bonded carbon atoms increases,the thermal conductivity can be increased by four fold,which is attributed to enhanced contributions from propagating modes in these amorphous structures.Our results shed more light into the role of atomic coordination on dictating heat transfer mechanisms in amorphous materials,and also provide a deeper understanding of the ability to tune the thermal conductivity of amorphous carbon structures through the control of the local atomic coordination.Ashutosh Giri Connor J.Dionne Patrick E.Hopkins 2022npj Computational Materials2022,,1:2
