1Nano-Graphene Oxide for Cellular Imaging and Drug Delivery显示文摘Two-dimensional graphene offers interesting electronic,thermal,and mechanical properties that are currently being explored for advanced electronics,membranes,and composites.Here we synthesize and explore the biological applications of nano-graphene oxide(NGO),i.e.,single-layer graphene oxide sheets down to a few nanometers in lateral width.We develop functionalization chemistry in order to impart solubility and compatibility of NGO in biological environments.We obtain size separated pegylated NGO sheets that are soluble in buffers and serum without agglomeration.The NGO sheets are found to be photoluminescent in the visible and infrared regions.The intrinsic photoluminescence(PL)of NGO is used for live cell imaging in the near-infrared(NIR)with little background.We found that simple physisorption viaπ-stacking can be used for loading doxorubicin,a widely used cancer drug onto NGO functionalized with antibody for selective killing of cancer cells in vitro.Owing to its small size,intrinsic optical properties,large specifi c surface area,low cost,and useful non-covalent interactions with aromatic drug molecules,NGO is a promising new material for biological and medical applications.Xiaoming Sun Zhuang Liu Kevin Welsher Joshua Tucker Robinson Andrew Goodwin Sasa Zaric Hongjie Dai 2008Nano Research2008,1,3:118
2地下水位较高条件下不同根区湿润方式对梨树根与茎液流及其水分平衡的影响显示文摘为了探讨地下水位较高条件下根区湿润方式对梨树根和茎液流及水分平衡的影响 ,开展了较系统的试验研究。试验共设三种处理 ,即传统畦灌 (CFI) ,部分根干燥灌溉 (PRD)和分根区交替灌溉 (ARDI) ,分别使用土壤水分监测系统 (Enviro SCAN)和热脉冲探针监测土壤水分动态和梨树根和茎液流。结果表明在 PRD和 ARDI情况下湿润根区的根液流不仅大于干燥根区 ,而且也大于 CFI情况下的相同区域。复水后 ,ARDI干燥区的根液流比 PRD的恢复和提高快得多 ,并且比 CFI的大 ;ARDI的茎液流比 CFI的小 ,但比 PRD保持一侧根干燥时的大。在只有一侧根区灌溉时 ,ARDI和 PRD的日耗水量比 CFI的小。 ARDI和 PRD中湿润侧的根系具有水分吸收补偿效应 ,当干燥根区复水后能够提高水分的吸收能力 ,其程度与根区持续干燥的时间长短有关。逐日根液流与参考作物蒸发蒸腾量关系密切 ,但随着表面灌溉方式和湿润根区的不同这些关系明显的不一样。逐日茎液流与参考作物蒸发蒸腾量有关 ,而且在不同的表面灌溉方式下 ,土壤含水率相同时茎液流和参考作物蒸发蒸腾量的比率不同。与 CFI相比 ,ARDI和 PRD大约少用 5 0 %的灌溉水量 ,但是梨树的水分消耗量和茎液流并没减少相同的比例。表面湿润方式对水量平衡和液流的作用明显受到地下水位的影响。康绍忠 胡笑涛 Ian Goodwin Peter Jerie 2001农业工程学报2001,17,3:10

4Classical epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)and alternative cell death process-driven blebbishield metastaticwitch(BMW)pathways to cancer metastasis显示文摘Metastasis is a pivotal event that accelerates the prognosis of cancer patients towards mortality.Therapies that aim to induce cell death in metastatic cells require a more detailed understanding of the metastasis for better mitigation.Towards this goal,we discuss the details of two distinct but overlapping pathways of metastasis:a classical reversible epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(hybrid-EMT)-driven transport pathway and an alternative cell death process-driven blebbishield metastatic-witch(BMW)transport pathway involving reversible cell death process.The knowledge about the EMT and BMW pathways is important for the therapy of metastatic cancers as these pathways confer drug resistance coupled to immune evasion/suppression.We initiallydiscuss the EMT pathway and compare it with the BMW pathway in the contexts of coordinated oncogenic,metabolic,immunologic,and cell biological events that drive metastasis.In particular,we discuss how the cell death environment involving apoptosis,ferroptosis,necroptosis,and NETosis in BMW or EMT pathways recruits immune cells,fuses with it,migrates,permeabilizes vasculature,and settles at distant sites to establish metastasis.Finally,we discuss the therapeutic targets that are common to both EMT and BMW pathways.Goodwin G.Jinesh Andrew S.Broh 2022Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,9:4

6Multiple sclerosis:integration of modeling with biology,clinical and imaging measures to provide better monitoring of disease progression and prediction of outcome显示文摘Multiple Sclerosis(MS) is a major cause of neurological disability in adults and has an annual cost of approximately $28 billion in the United States. MS is a very complex disorder as demyelination can happen in a variety of locations throughout the brain; therefore, this disease is never the same in two patients making it very hard to predict disease progression. A modeling approach which combines clinical, biological and imaging measures to help treat and fight this disorder is needed. 12Keeping nephrotic syndrome on the emergency department edema differential: A case report显示文摘Dear editor,Nephrotic syndrome is defined by the presence of peripheral edema,heavy proteinuria(greater than 3.5 g/24h),and hypoalbuminemia(less than 3 g/dL).^[1]Nephrotic syndrome is relatively rare,with an incidence of 3 new patients per 100,000 per year in adults.^[1]Despite being a known cause for new onset edema in patients at any age,nephrotic syndrome is often neglected in considering differential diagnoses for this presentation in primary care settings,and initial workups often focus on ruling out cardiac and hepatic causes of edema.^[1-3]In this case report,we describe a 25-year-old male patient who presented to the emergency department(ED)complaining of a 10-day history of anasarca.He was later diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome secondary to minimal change disease.This case served as a reminder to include the differential diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome early in the workup of an adult with peripheral edema presenting to the ED.Joshua Goodwin Bijon Das 2019World Journal of Emergency Medicine2019,10,2:2
