| 1 | Development of Epstein-Barr virus-associated gastric cancer:Infection,inflammation,and oncogenesis显示文摘Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)-associated gastric cancer(EBVaGC)cells originate from a single-cell clone infected with EBV.However,more than 95%of patients with gastric cancer have a history of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)infection,and H.pylori is a major causative agent of gastric cancer.Therefore,it has long been argued that H.pylori infection may affect the development of EBVaGC,a subtype of gastric cancer.Atrophic gastrointestinal inflammation,a symptom of H.pylori infection,is observed in the gastric mucosa of EBVaGC.Therefore,it remains unclear whether H.pylori infection is a cofactor for gastric carcinogenesis caused by EBV infection or whether H.pylori and EBV infections act independently on gastric cancer formation.It has been reported that EBV infection assists in the oncogenesis of gastric cancer caused by H.pylori infection.In contrast,several studies have reported that H.pylori infection accelerates tumorigenesis initiated by EBV infection.By reviewing both clinical epidemiological and experimental data,we reorganized the role of H.pylori and EBV infections in gastric cancer formation. | Hisashi Iizasa Andy Visi Kartika Sintayehu Fekadu Shunpei Okada Daichi Onomura Afifah Fatimah Azzahra Ahmad Wadi Mosammat Mahmuda Khatun Thin Myat Moe Jun Nishikawa Hironori Yoshiyama | 2022 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,44: | 3 |
| 2 | Val279Phe variant of Lp-PLA2 is a risk factor for a subpopulation of Indonesia patients with acute myocardial infarction显示文摘Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2(Lp-PLA2),a member of the phospholipase A2 superfamily,is an enzyme that hydrolyses phospholipids,is found in blood circulation as a sign of inflammation,and takes a role in atherogenesis.There is an epidemiologic relation between increased Lp-PLA2 levels and coronary heart disease.Lp-PLA2 is an enzyme that is produced by macrophages and takes a role as an independent predictor of a coronary event.A genetic variant of Val279Phe on the Lp-PLA2 gene has been reported with various results in Japan,China,Korea,and Caucasian populations.This study aims to analyse the influence of the Val279Phe genetic variant on acute myocardial infarction(AMI)at Saiful Anwar Hospital,Indonesia.This study was conducted on 151 patients(111 AMI patients and 40 non-AMI patients).The genetic variant of Val279Phe was identified through a genotyping method.There were no significant differences in age,total cholesterol level,LDL-C(low-density lipoprotein cholesterol)level,and family history data between AMI and non-AMI patients.However,AMI patients had low HDL-C(high-density lipoprotein cholesterol),triglyceride levels,dyslipidaemia,and hypertension risk factors compared to non-AMI patients.The frequency of the GG genotype(279Val)was dominant in both AMI and non-AMI groups.Further analysis suggested that the GG genotype has a 2.9 times greater risk of AMI compared to the GT/TT genotype(279Phe).This study concluded that the Val279Phe genetic variant undoubtedly influenced AMI risk,which is a warrant for further development of early detection and improving strategy to prevent AMI in patients. | Miryanti Cahyaningtias Mohammad Saifur Rohman Widodo Andi Wahjono Adi Rina Yuda Yanna Indrayana Jayarani Fatimah Putri Rusdianto Mifetika Lukitasari Dadang Hendrawan | 2016 | Genes & Diseases2016,3,4: | 3 |

| 4 | Comparison of electron transmittances and tunneling currents in an anisotropic TiN_x/HfO_2/SiO_2/p-Si(100) metal-oxide-semiconductor(MOS) capacitor calculated using exponential- and Airy-wavefunction approaches and a transfer matrix method显示文摘Analytical expressions of electron transmittance and tunneling current in an anisotropic TiN_x/HfO_2/SiO_2/p-Si (100) metal-oxide-semiconductor(MOS) capacitor were derived by considering the coupling of transverse and longitudinal energies of an electron.Exponential and Airy wavefunctions were utilized to obtain the electron transmittance and the electron tunneling current.A transfer matrix method,as a numerical approach,was used as a benchmark to assess the analytical approaches.It was found that there is a similarity in the transmittances calculated among exponential- and Airy-wavefunction approaches and the TMM at low electron energies.However,for high energies,only the transmittance calculated by using the Airy-wavefunction approach is the same as that evaluated by the TMM.It was also found that only the tunneling currents calculated by using the Airy-wavefunction approach are the same as those obtained under the TMM for all range of oxide voltages.Therefore,a better analytical description for the tunneling phenomenon in the MOS capacitor is given by the Airy-wavefunction approach.Moreover,the tunneling current density decreases as the titanium concentration of the TiN_x metal gate increases because the electron effective mass of TiN_x decreases with increasing nitrogen concentration.In addition,the mass anisotropy cannot be neglected because the tunneling currents obtained under the isotropic and anisotropic masses are very different. | Fatimah A.Noor Mikrajuddin Abdullah Sukirno Khairurrijal | 2010 | Journal of Semiconductors2010,31,12: | 2 |

| 6 | Efficient solvent extraction of antioxidant-rich extract from a tropical diatom,Chaetoceros calcitrans (Paulsen) Takano 1968显示文摘Objective: To compare the in vitro antioxidant capacity of a diatom, Chaetoceros calcitrans(C. calcitrans) extracted using six types of solvents.Methods: Each extract was evaluated in terms of extraction yield, total carotenoid,fucoxanthin content, total phenolic and antioxidant capacities(DPPH and ABTS +scavenging activity and iron chelating activity).Results: The methanol extract exhibited the highest yield [(22.71 ± 0.96) g/100 g dry weight(DW)], total carotenoid [(4.46 ± 0.36) mg/g DW], total phenolic [(2.49 ± 0.08) mg gallic acid equivalents/g DW] and second highest fucoxanthin content [(2.08 ± 0.03) mg fucoxanthin/g DW] as compared to other solvent extracts. Methanolic extract also exhibited significantly higher(P < 0.05) scavenging(DPPH, ABTS +) and iron chelating activities.Conclusions: Methanol was the recommended solvent for the production of antioxidant rich extract from C. calcitrans. Both carotenoids and phenolic acids were found to be positively correlated to the antioxidant capacities of C. calcitrans. | 7 | Quality indicators in pediatric colonoscopy in a low-volume center:Implications for training显示文摘AIM To study implications of measuring quality indicators on training and trainees' performance in pediatric colonoscopy in a low-volume training center.METHODS We reviewed retrospectively the performance of pediatric colonoscopies in a training center in Malaysia over 5 years(January 2010-December 2015), benchmarked against five quality indicators: appropriateness of indications, bowel preparations, cecum and ileal examination rates, and complications. The European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy guideline for pediatric endoscopy and North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition training guidelines were used as benchmarks.RESULTS Median(± SD) age of 121 children [males = 74(61.2%)] who had 177 colonoscopies was 7.0(± 4.6) years. On average, 30 colonoscopies were performed each year(range: 19-58). Except for investigations of abdominal pain(21/177, 17%), indications for colonoscopies were appropriate in the remaining 83%. Bowel preparation was good in 87%. One patient(0.6%) with severe Crohn's disease had bowel perforation. Cecum examination and ileal intubation rate was 95% and 68.1%. Ileal intubation rate was significantly higher in diagnosing or assessing inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) than non-IBD(72.9% vs 50.0%; P = 0.016). Performance of four trainees was consistent throughout the study period. | 8 | Novel pharmacological therapy in type 2 diabetes mellitus with established cardiovascular disease: Current evidence显示文摘Cardiovascular diseases(CVDs) remain the leading cause of death in the world and in most developed countries. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)suffer from both microvascular and macrovascular diseases and therefore have higher rates of morbidity and mortality compared to those without T2DM. If current trends continue, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1 in 3 Americans will have T2DM by year 2050. As a consequence of the controversy surrounding rosiglitazone and the increasing prevalence of diabetes and CVDs, in 2008 the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) established new expectations for the evaluation of new antidiabetic agents, advising for pre and,in some cases, post-marketing data on major cardiovascular events. As a direct consequence, there has been a paradigm shift in new antidiabetic agents that has given birth to the recently published American Diabetes Association/European Association for the Study of Diabetes consensus statement recommending sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors(SGLT2i) and glucagon like peptide-1 receptor agonists(GLP-1RA) in patients with T2DM and established CVD. As a result of over a decade of randomized placebo controlled cardiovascular outcome trials, the aforementioned drugs have received FDA approval for risk reduction of cardiovascular(CV) events in patients with T2DM and established CV disease.SGLT2i have been shown to have a stronger benefit in patients with congestiveheart failure and diabetic kidney disease when compared to their GLP-1RA counterparts. These benefits are not withstanding additional considerations such as cost and the multiple FDA Black Box warnings.
