| 1 | Association of a genetic variant in AKT1 gene with features of the metabolic syndrome显示文摘Metabolic syndrome(MetS)is a clustering of metabolic abnormalities that is associated with increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.There is growing body of data showing the associations of genetic variants of the genes involved in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway with diabetes and obesity.We aimed to investigate the association between MetS and its components with the genetic polymorphism in AKT1,rs1130233(T>C).Total of 618 participants,recruited from Mashhad stroke and heart atherosclerosis disorder cohort(MASHAD study).Patients with MetS were defined by using international diabetes federation(IDF)criteria(n Z 326)and those without MetS(n Z 261)were recruited.Anthropometric and biochemical parameters were measured in all subjects.Genetic analysis for the rs1130233 polymorphism was performed,using the ABI-StepOne instruments with SDS version-2.0 software.Individuals with MetS had a significantly higher levels of BMI,waistcircumference,total cholesterol,triglyceride,high sensitivity-c reactive protein(hs-CRP)and blood-pressure,and lower concentrations of high density lipoprotein(HDL-C),compared to non-MetS individuals(P<0.05).The association between the rs1130233 and MetS was not significant.Subjects with a CC or CT genotypes had a significantly higher serum hs-CRP-level(OR:1.5;95%CI(1.05e2.1),P Z 0.02).Additionally,subjects who carried the TC genotype had a higher BMI compared to the CC genotype(p value Z 0.045).Our findings demonstrated that AKT1,rs1130233(T>C)polymorphism was associated with major components of MetS such as hs-CRP,and BMI,indicating further investigation in a multi-center setting to explore its value as an emerging biomarker of risk stratification marker. | Fateme Sadat Eshaghi Hamideh Ghazizadeh Sakine Kazami-Nooreini Ameneh Timar Habibollah Esmaeily Mehrane Mehramiz Amir Avan Majid Ghayour-Mobarhan | 2019 | Genes & Diseases2019,6,3: | 6 |
| 2 | A controllable hydrothermal method to prepare La(OH)_3 nanorods using new precursors显示文摘Using the hydrothermal method, lanthanum hydroxide nanorods were synthesized by the reaction of La Cl3·7H2O, ethylenediamine, and hydrazine. According to SEM results, ethylenediamine and hydrazine with p H management could control the particle growth and played an important role in formation of lanthanum hydroxide nanorods. The morphology and microstructure of the obtained products were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) spectra, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX), Fourier transformed infrared(FTIR) spectrum, transmission electron microscopy(TEM), and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). | 3 | The effects of transcranial direct current stimulation on gait in patients with Parkinson’s disease:a systematic review显示文摘Background:Gait problems are an important symptom in Parkinson’s disease(PD),a progressive neurodegenerative disease.Transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)is a neuromodulatory intervention that can modulate cortical excitability of the gait-related regions.Despite an increasing number of gait-related tDCS studies in PD,the efficacy of this technique for improving gait has not been systematically investigated yet.Here,we aimed to systematically explore the effects of tDCS on gait in PD,based on available experimental studies.Methods:Using the PRISMA(Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses)approach,PubMed,Web of Science,Scopus,and PEDro databases were searched for randomized clinical trials assessing the effect of tDCS on gait in patients with PD.Results:Eighteen studies were included in this systematic review.Overall,tDCS targeting the motor cortex and supplementary motor area bilaterally seems to be promising for gait rehabilitation in PD.Studies of tDCS targeting the dorosolateral prefrontal cortex or cerebellum showed more heterogeneous results.More studies are needed to systematically compare the efficacy of different tDCS protocols,including protocols applying tDCS alone and/or in combination with conventional gait rehabilitation treatment in PD.Conclusions:tDCS is a promising intervention approach to improving gait in PD.Anodal tDCS over the motor areas has shown a positive effect on gait,but stimulation of other areas is less promising.However,the heterogeneities of methods and results have made it difficult to draw firm conclusions.Therefore,systematic explorations of tDCS protocols are required to optimize the efficacy. | Fateme Pol Mohammad Ali Salehinejad Hamzeh Baharlouei Michael A.Nitsche | 2021 | Translational Neurodegeneration2021,10,2: | 4 |
| 4 | Chronic traumatic ankle and foot osteomyelitis: a nationwide case-control study显示文摘Background: Osteomyelitis(OM) is an atypical consequence of ankle-foot trauma which is associated with long-term mental and physical morbidity and persistent pain. This study aimed to assess the health status of OM patients with war-related ankle-foot injuries.Methods: A total of 1129 veterans with ankle-foot injuries participated in a case-control study(2014–2016). Thirty patients with chronic OM of the ankle-foot were compared with 90 non-OM participants as the control group. Quality of life(QOL), life satisfaction and the ability to perform basic and instrumental activities of daily living were measured using the following questionnaires: short-form health survey(SF-36), satisfaction with life scale(SWLS), activity of daily living(ADL) and instrumental activity of daily living(IADL), respectively. OM patients were categorized according to their risk factors as A, B and C hosts using a modified version of the Cierny and Mader classification system. The one sample t-test, 2-independent sample t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analyses were applied to analyze the data.Results: Ankle-foot pain leading to surgery(P <0.001) and orthosis usage(P =0.039) were more common in OM patients. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the prevalence of pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases or kidney failure and other related diseases. OM patients showed a significantly lower level of mental health compared to non-OM respondents(P=0.025). Approximately, 70.0% of ankle-foot injured veterans were dissatisfied with their life, and there was no difference between the two groups(P>0.05). Mobility was significantly lower in the OM patients than in the control group(P=0.023). Life satisfaction(P=0.001) and the ability to perform daily activities were the determinants for poor physical(P=0.018) and mental health-related quality of life(P=0.012). According to the Cierny and Mader classification system, they were all included in the type C host classification, with one major and/or three or more minor risk factors.Conclusion: A low level of quality and satisfaction of life and ability to perform activities of daily living were observed in OM patients with war-related ankle-foot injuries. Surgeries of the ankle and foot due to pain were much more common in OM patients than in non-OM participants. | 6 | Recombinant expression and purification of functional vascular endothelial growth factor-121 in the baculovirus expression system显示文摘Objective: To express human Vascular endothelial growth factor121(VEGF121) in insect cells. Methods: A gene construct containing VEGF was cloned in the p Fast Bac-HTA vector, followed by transformation in DH10 BAC. The recombinant bacmid was then extracted, and transfected into Sf9 insect cells. The transfected cells were harvested, and then VEGF expression was confirmed by Western blotting using specific antibodies. The tube formation assay was used for functional assessment of VEGF. Results: Our results showed that VEGF could be successfully expressed in the baculovirus system. Purified VEGF was able to stimulate in vitro tube formation of human endothelial cells. | 11 | Multi-layer structures including zigzag sculptured thin films for corrosion protection of AISI 304 stainless steel显示文摘To increase corrosion resistance of the sample,its electrical impedance must be increased.Due to the fact that electrical impedance depends on elements such as electrical resistance,capacitance,and inductance,by increasing the electrical resistance,reducing the capacitance and inductance,electrical impedance and corrosion resistance can be increased.Based on the fact that these elements depend on the type of material and the geometry of the material,multilayer structures with different geometries are proposed.For this purpose,conventional multilayer thin films,multilayer thin film including zigzag structure(zigzag 1)and multilayer thin film including double zigzag structure(zigzag 2)of manganese nitride are considered to protect AISI 304 stainless steel against corrosion in salt solution.These multilayer coatings including zigzag structures are prepared by alternately using the conventional deposition of thin film and glancing angle deposition method.After deposition,the samples are placed in a furnace under nitrogen flux for nitriding.The cross sections of the structures are observed by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM).Atomic force microscope(AFM)is used to make surface analyses of the samples.The results show that the multilayer thin films including zigzag structures have smaller grains than conventional multilayer thin films,and the zigzag 2 structure has the smaller grain than the other two samples,which is attributed to the effect of shadowing and porosity on the oblique angle deposition method.Crystallography structures of the samples are studied by using x-ray diffraction(XRD)pattern and the results show that nitride phase formation in zigzag 2 structure is better than that in zigzag 1 structure and conventional multilayer thin film.To investigate the corrosion resistances of the structures,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and potentiodynamic polarization tests are performed.The results reveal that the multilayer thin films with zigzag structures have better corrosion protection than the conventional multilayer thin films,and the zigzag structure 2 has the smallest corrosion current and the highest corrosion resistance.The electrical impedances of the samples are investigated by simulating equivalent circuits.The high corrosion resistance of zigzag 2 structure as compared with conventional multilayer structure and zigzag 1 structure,is attributed to the high electrical impedance of the structure due to its small capacitance and high electrical resistance.Finally,the surfaces of corroded samples are observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). | Fateme Abdi | 2021 | Chinese Physics B2021,30,3: | 1 |

| 18 | The synergistic effect of honey and cinnamon against Streptococcus mutans bacteria显示文摘Objective: To investigate the effect of Iranian honey, cinnamon and their combination against Streptococcus mutans bacteria.Methods: Nine experimental solutions were examined in this study, including two types of honey(pasteurized and sterilized), two types of cinnamon extract(dissolved in distilled water or dimethyl sulfoxide) and five different mixtures of cinnamon in honey(prepared by admixing 1%–5% w/w of cinnamon extract into 99%–95% w/w of honey, respectively).Meanwhile, each of mentioned agent was considered as the first solution while it was diluted into seven serially two-fold dilutions(from 1:2 to 1:128 v/v).Therefore, eight different concentrations of each agent were tested.The antibacterial tests were performed through blood agar well diffusion method, and the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) was determined.Ultimately, the data were subjected to statistical analysis incorporating Two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc tests(a = 0.01).Results: The highest zone of inhibition was recorded for the mixtures of honey and cinnamon while all the subgroups containing 95%–99% v/v of honey were in the same range(P < 0.01).The MIC for both honey solutions were obtained as 500 mg/mL whereas it was 50 mg/m L for both cinnamon solutions.Moreover, the MIC related to all honey/cinnamon mixtures were 200 mg/mL.Conclusions: A profound synergistic effect of honey and cinnamon was observed against Streptococcus mutans while there was no significant difference among extracts containing 99%–95% v/v of honey admixing with 1%–5% v/v of cinnamon, respectively. | Mohammad Bagher Rezvani Mohammad Niakan Mohammad Kamalinejad Fateme Sadat Ahmadi Faeze Hamze | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2017,7,4: | 1 |
