| 2 | Genotypic variation in phosphorus acquisition from sparingly soluble P sources is related to root morphology and root exudates in Brassica napus显示文摘Genotypic variations in the adaptive response to low-phosphorus(P) stress and P-uptake efficiency have been widely reported in many crops.We conducted a pot experiment to evaluate the P-acquisition ability of two rapeseed(Brassica napus) genotypes supplied with two sparingly soluble sources of P,Al-P and Fe-P.Then,the root morphology,proton concentrations,and carboxylate content were investigated in a solution experiment to examine the genotypic difference in P-acquisition efficiency.Both genotypes produced greater biomass and accumulated more P when supplied with Al-P than when supplied with Fe-P.The P-efficient genotype 102 showed a significantly greater ability to deplete sparingly soluble P from the rhizosphere soil because of its greater biomass and higher P uptake compared with those of the P-inefficient genotype 105.In the solution experiment,the P-efficient genotype under low-P conditions developed dominant root morphological traits,and it showed more intensive rhizosphere acidification because of greater H+ efflux,higher H+-ATPase activity,and greater exudation of carboxylates than the P-inefficient genotype.Thus,a combination of morphological and physiological mechanisms contributed to the genotypic variation in the utilization of different sparingly soluble P sources in B.napus. | ZHANG HaiWei HUANG Yu YE XiangSheng XU FangSen | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,12: | 6 |
| 3 | Induction of jasmonic acid biosynthetic genes inhibits Arabidopsis growth in response to low boron显示文摘The essential micronutrient boron(B) has key roles in cell wall integrity and B deficiency inhibits plant growth. The role of jasmonic acid(JA) in plant growth inhibition under B deficiency remains unclear. Here,we report that low B elevates JA biosynthesis in Arabidopsis thaliana by inducing the expression of JA biosynthesis genes. Treatment with JA inhibited plant growth and, a JA biosynthesis inhibitor enhanced plant growth, indicating that the JA induced by B deficiency affects plant growth. Furthermore,examination of the JA signaling mutants jasmonate resistant1, coronatine insensitive1-2, and myc2 showed that JA signaling negatively regulates plant growth under B deficiency. We identified a low-B responsive transcription factor, ERF018, and used yeast one-hybrid assays and transient activation assays in Nicotiana benthamiana leaf cells to demonstrate that ERF018 activates the expression of JA biosynthesis genes. ERF018 overexpression(OE)lines displayed stunted growth and up-regulation of JA biosynthesis genes under normal B conditions,compared to Col-0 and the difference between ERF018 OE lines and Col-0 diminished under low B.These results suggest that ERF018 enhances JA biosynthesis and thus negatively regulates plant growth. | 15 | Hypervelocity impact induced shock acoustic emission waves for quantitative damage evaluation using in situ miniaturized piezoelectric sensor network显示文摘Manmade debris and natural meteoroids, travelling in the Low Earth Orbit at a speed of several kilometers per second, pose a severe safety concern to the spacecraft in service through the HyperVelocity Impact(HVI). To address this issue, an investigation of shock Acoustic Emission(AE) waves induced by HVI to a downscaled two-layer Whipple shielding structure is performed,to realize a quantitative damage evaluation. Firstly a hybrid numerical model integrating smoothparticle hydrodynamics and finite element is built to obtain the wave response. The projectiles, with various impact velocities and directions, are modelled to impact the shielding structure with different thicknesses. Then experimental validation is carried out with built-in miniaturized piezoelectric sensors to in situ sense the HVI-induced AE waves. A quantitative agreement is obtained between numerical and experimental results, demonstrating the correctness of the hybrid model and facilitating the explanation of obtained AE signals in experiment. Based on the understanding of HVI-induced wave components, assessment of the damage severity, i.e., whether the outer shielding layer is perforated or not, is performed using the energy ratio between the regions of ‘‘high frequency' and ‘‘low frequency' in the acquired AE signals. Lastly, the direct-arrival fundamentalsymmetric wave mode is isolated from each sensing signal to be input into an enhanced delay-andsum algorithm, which visualizes HVI spots accurately and instantaneously with different sensor network configuration.
