| 1 | Inhibition of angiogenesis and HCT-116 xenograft tumor growth in mice by kallistatin显示文摘AIM: To investigate the inhibitory effect of kallistatin (KAL) on angiogenesis and HCT-116 xenograft tumor growth. METHODS: Heterotopic tumors were induced by subcutaneous injection of 2 × 106 HCT-11 cells in mice. Seven days later, 2 × 1011 rAAV-GFP or rAAV-KAL was injected intratumorally (n = 5 for each group). The mice were sacrificed at d 28, by which time the tumors in the rAAV-GFP group had grown to beyond 5% of the total body weight. Tumor growth was measured by calipers in two dimensions. Tumor angiogenesis was determined with tumor microvessel density (MVD) by immunohistology. Tumor cell proliferation was assessed by Ki-67 staining. RESULTS: Intratumor injection of rAAV-KAL inhibited tumor growth in the treatment group by 78% (171 ± 52 mm3) at d 21 after virus infection compared to the control group (776 ± 241 mm3). | 2 | A review on the cracking,baking and leaching processes of rare earth element concentrates显示文摘Rare earth elements(REE) are a set of seventeen chemical elements in the periodic table, which have been found in a variety classes of minerals in the world. The global demand for REE and their compounds has increased in high-tech applications over the past decades due to their chemical, catalytic, electrical, magnetic, and optical properties. After mining, comminution and ore beneficiation, hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes are carried out to recover REE compounds. The concentrate cracking is a process wherein the structure of a REE mineral is modified in order to dissolve REE in a weak acid solution. This would be accomplished through various techniques such as alkaline cracking and acid baking. The cracked concentrate is then leached to dissolve REE in a solution and subsequently recover those via neutralization, precipitation or solvent extraction methods. | 4 | Therapeutic potential of flavonoids in inflammatory bowel disease: A comprehensive review显示文摘The inflammatory process plays a central role in the development and progression of numerous pathological situations,such as inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases,metabolic syndrome,and cardiovascular disorders. IBDs involve inflammation of the gastrointestinal area and mainly comprise Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC). Both pathological situations usually involve recurring or bloody diarrhea,pain,fatigue and weight loss. There is at present no pharmacological cure for CD or UC. However,surgery may be curative for UC patients. The prescribed treatment aims to ameliorate the symptoms and prevent and/or delay new painful episodes. Flavonoid compounds are a large family of hydroxylated polyphenolic molecules abundant in plants,including vegetables and fruits which are the major dietary sources of these compounds for humans,together with wine and tea. Flavonoids are becoming very popular because they have many health-promoting and disease-preventive effects. Most interest has been directed towards the antioxidant activity of flavonoids,evidencing a remarkable free-radical scavenging capacity. However,accumulating evidence suggests that flavonoids have many other biological properties,including anti-inflammatory,antiviral,anticancer,and neuroprotective activities through different mechanisms of action. | 7 | Intravenous transplantation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells promotes neural regeneration after traumatic brain injury显示文摘To investigate the supplement of lost nerve cells in rats with traumatic brain injury by intravenous administration of allogenic bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, this study established a Wistar rat model of traumatic brain injury by weight drop impact acceleration method and administered 3 × 106 rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells via the lateral tail vein. At 14 days after cell transplantation, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells differentiated into neurons and astrocytes in injured rat cerebral cortex and rat neurological function was improved significantly. | 10 | Ozone and ozone/hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove gemfibrozil and ibuprofen from treated sewage effluent: Factors influencing bromate formation显示文摘Reuse of treated sewage effluent is an important option to overcome water scarcity.Conventional wastewater treatment methods are inadequate for the removal of several persistent contaminants such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products(PPCPs).In this study the removal of ibuprofen and gemfibrozil by ozonation and ozone/hydrogen peroxide(O3/H2O2)advanced oxidation process(AOP),as well as the formation of bromate were investigated at different temperatures and pH values.Complete removal of gemfibrozil and a maximum of 80%ibuprofen removal were achieved using ozone dosage of 1.5 mg/L with O3:H2O2 ratio of 1:0.25 in the O3/H2O2 process.The effect of temperature on the removal efficiency of these two compounds was found to be negligible from 25 to 40ᵒC for both processes.pH effect from 6 to 9 was also found to be negligible for gemfibrozil removal,while ibuprofen had relatively lower removal by ozonation at pH 6 compared to higher pH values.Bromate formation was decreased to 0.012 mg/L when the pH was increased to 9.Increasing the temperature to 40ᵒC also resulted in less bromate formation which was the lowest value obtained in this study at 0.0102 mg/L.Addition of H2O2 did not affect the formation of bromate and in some cases it was found to be slightly higher compared with ozonation treatment. | Hajar Farzaneh Kavithaa Loganathan Jayaprakash Saththasivam Gordon McKay | 2020 | Emerging Contaminants2020,6,1: | 4 |
| 11 | Essential Oil from Citrus aurantium Alleviates Anxiety of Patients Undergoing Coronary Angiography: A Single-Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial显示文摘Objective To determine the effectiveness and safety of essential oil from Citrus aurantium on anxiety in patients undergoing coronary angiography.Methods A single-blind,randomized controlled trial was conducted in 80 patients experiencing coronary angiography in Imam Ali Hospital in Kermanshah,Iran from April to November in 2016.All patients were randomly divided into intervention and control groups by a random number table,40 cases in each group.The patients in the intervention group inhaled Citrus aurantium essential oil for 15–20 min about 60 min before angiography.Following the same procedure,distilled water was used instead of Citrus aurantium in the control group.Spielbergers State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI)was filled in and vital signs including systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),respiratory and pulse rate were recorded before and 20 min after the intervention.Adverse reactions after intervention were observed.Results In the intervention group,the mean scores of STAI,SBP,DBP,respiratory and pulse rate were 53.30±10.13,134.82±11.75 mm Hg,84.49±6.99 mm Hg,17.87±1.73 times/min,and 76.48±12.55 beats/min at baseline and significantly decreased to 42.37±10.15,124.49±10.48 mm Hg,79.23±6.62 mm Hg,14.54±1.43 times/min,and 70.03±13.66 beats/min respectively 20 min after intervention(all P<0.05);however,in the control group,neither anxiety scores nor vital signs changed significantly(P>0.05).All subjects reported no adverse reactions.Conclusion Inhalation of the essential oil from Citrus aurantium was effective in reducing anxiety and stress levels in patients undergoing coronary angiography. | Khalil Moradi Hossein Ashtarian Nicholas Yakubu Danzima Hamid Saeedi Behrouz Bijan Farzaneh Akbari Mohammad Mehdi Mohammadi | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,27,3: | 4 |
| 12 | Minimally invasive open dismembered pyeloplasty technique: Miniature incision, muscle-splitting dissection, and nopelvis reduction in children显示文摘Objective:To report the outcomes and complications of open dismembered Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty with miniature incision in treating children’s ureteropelvic junction obstruction.Methods:Between March 2007 and April 2011,109 children with a mean age of 2 years and 8 months old with ureteropelvic junction obstruction underwent open dismembered pyeloplasty.Clinical manifestations,radiographic assessments,incision size,surgery time,hospital stay,and complication rate were recorded.All patients had a documented ureteropelvic junction obstruction(having T1/2 more than 20 min in diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid[DTPA]scan)with symptomatic stenosis or decreased kidney function(differential function<40%).Pyeloplasty was done by a retroperitoneal flank approach with miniature incision without pelvis reduction.One surgeon did all the surgeries.Success rate and complications were assessed in a 3-year follow-up.Results:Mean surgery time was 52 min(47e60 min).Incision size was 18e28 mm.Mean hospital stay was 3 days(2e8 days).The surgery was successful in 98.2%of patients with a mean follow-up time of 36 months(success was defined as disappearance of symptoms,if present,with improved ultrasound imaging results or Reno graphic parameters).The complication rate was 7.33%,including urinary leakage,double-J urethral stent dislocation and infection.Conclusion:Open dismembered pyeloplasty is a safe,technically feasible and effective therapy in treatment of children’s ureteropelvic junction obstruction.It takes a short time to do,requires a small incision and has few complications and a short recovery period. | Farzaneh Sharifiaghdas Mahboubeh Mirzaei Azar Daneshpajooh Shahin Abbaszadeh | 2019 | Asian Journal of Urology2019,6,3: | 4 |

| 17 | Treatment with dimethyl fumarate ameliorates liver ischemia/reperfusion injury显示文摘AIM To investigate the hypothesis that treatment with dimethyl fumarate(D MF) mayame liorate liver ischemia/reperfusion injury(I/RI).METHODS Rats were divided into 3 groups: sham, control(CTL), and DMF. DMF(25 mg/kg, twice/d) was orally administered for 2 d before the procedure. The CTL and DMF rats were subjected to ischemia for 1 h and reperfusion for 2 h. The serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and malondialdehyde(MDA) levels, adenosine triphosphate(ATP), NO × metabolites, anti-oxidant enzyme expression level, antiinflammatory effect, and anti-apoptotic effect were determined.RESULTS Histological tissue damage was significantly reduced in the DMF group(Suzuki scores: sham: 0 ± 0; CTL: 9.3± 0.5; DMF: 2.5 ± 1.2; sham vs CTL, P < 0.0001; CTL vs DMF, P < 0.0001). This effect was associated with significantly lower serum ALT(DMF 5026 ± 2305 U/L vs CTL 10592 ± 1152 U/L, P = 0.04) and MDA(DMF 18.2 ± 1.4 μmol/L vs CTL 26.0 ± 1.0 μmol/L, P = 0.0009). DMF effectively improved the ATP content(DMF 20.3 ± 0.4 nmol/mg vs CTL 18.3 ± 0.6 nmol/mg, P = 0.02), myeloperoxidase activity(DMF 7.8 ± 0.4 m U/m L vs CTL 6.0 ± 0.5 m U/m L, P = 0.01) and level of endothelial nitric oxide synthase expression(DMF 0.38 ± 0.05-fold vs 0.17 ± 0.06-fold, P = 0.02). The higher expression levels of anti-oxidant enzymes(catalase and glutamatecysteine ligase modifier subunit and lower levels of key inflammatory mediators(nuclear factor-kappa B and cyclooxygenase-2 were confirmed in the DMF group.CONCLUSION DMF improved the liver function and the anti-oxidant and inflammation status following I/RI. | 19 | Preoperative clinical and paraclinical predictors of choledocholithiasis显示文摘BACKGROUND:Choledocholithiasis is the most common cause of obstructive jaundice and cholangitis and occurs in about 10%of patients with symptomatic gallstone.The aim of this study was to find preoperative and non-invasive tests for predicting common bile duct stones(CBDs). METHODS:Findings of clinical examination,history laboratory tests and ultrasound(US)in 60 patients with CBDs were compared retrospectively,with 60 patients with gallstones.The data were collected from medical charts The sensitivity,specificity and positive predictive value (PPV)were determined. RESULTS:The comparison between the two groups showed significant differences in anorexia,itching,dark urine subicterus(slightly elevated serum bilirubin without clinical evidence of jaundice)and jaundice appearance increased bilirubin level,aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and alanine aminotranferase(ALT),CBD diameter>6 mm and stone observation under US(P<0.05).The highest specificity(100%)and PPV(100%)were found in dark urine and pale colored stool,history of cholangitis,and icterus.Among paraclinical tests,alkaline phosphatase (ALP)had the highest specificity(72.1%)and PPV(12.5%) Under US,stone observation in CBD was the most important factor with a sensitivity of 94.5%,a specificity of 100%and a PPV of 100%. | 20 | Effect of Salvia officinalis Hydroalcoholic Extract on Vincristine-induced Neuropathy in Mice显示文摘AIM:Vincristine is one of the most commonly used chemotherapeutic drugs to treat a variety of malignant diseases,including leukemia and lymphoma.Studies have shown that vincristine cause painful effects,whereas Salvia officinalis(SO) showed analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the SO hydro-alcoholic extract on vincristine-induced peripheral neuropathy in mice in comparison with morphine.METHODS:Experiments were performed on 60 NMRI male mice weighing 25-30 g divided into six groups.The individual groups received normal saline,SO hydro-alcoholic extract,vincristine,SO hydro-alcoholic extract and vincristine(12 days before formalin test),morphine,and vincristine and morphine,respectively.The injected hind paw biting and licking was measured in a 5-minute interval for one hour.RESULTS:The results showed that formalin induce significant(P < 0.05) pain responses(the first phase:0-5 min and the second phase:15-40 min after injection).Administration of SO extract before formalin test showed significant(P < 0.05) decrease of pain response in the second phase.Administration of vincristine caused significant(P < 0.05) increase in the second phase of pain response.Injections of SO extract and vincristine showed that SO significantly(P < 0.05) decrease the second phase of vincristine-induced pain.Morphine decreased vincristine-induced pain in the first and second phase of formalin test significantly(P < 0.05).In comparison,morphine showed analgesic effects in the first phase and SO extract showed significant(P < 0.05) anti-inflammatory effects in the second phase of formalin test.CONCLUSION:Both SO and vincristine showed analgesic and painful neuropathic effects,suggesting that SO extract could be useful in the treatment of vincristine-induced peripheral neuropathic pain. | Ali Namvaran Abbas Abad Mir Hadi Khayate Nouri Farzaneh Tavakkoli | 2011 | 中国天然药物2011,9,5: | 3 |
