| 1 | Belowground carbon balance and carbon accumulation rate in the successional series of monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest显示文摘The balance, accumulation rate and temporal dynamics of belowground carbon in the successional series of monsoon evergreen broadleaved forest are obtained in this paper, based on long-term observations to the soil organic matter, input and standing biomass of litter and coarse woody debris, and dissolved organic carbon carried in the hydrological process of subtropical climax forest ecosystem—monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest, and its two successional forests of natural restoration—coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest and Pinus massoniana forest, as well as data of root biomass obtained once every five years and respiration measurement of soil, litter and coarse woody debris respiration for 1 year. The major results include: the belowground carbon pools of monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest, coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest, and Pinus massoniana forest are 23191 ± 2538 g·m?2, 16889 ± 1936 g·m?2 and 12680 ± 1854 g·m?2, respec- tively, in 2002. Mean annual carbon accumulation rates of the three forest types during the 24a from 1978 to 2002 are 383 ± 97 g·m?2·a?1, 193 ± 85 g·m?2·a?1 and 213 ± 86 g·m?2·a?1, respectively. The belowground carbon pools in the three forest types keep increasing during the observation period, suggesting that belowground carbon pools are carbon sinks to the atmosphere. | 2 | Steps to consider in the approach and management of critically ill patient with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage显示文摘Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage is a type of stroke associated with poor outcomes. Mortality is elevated, especially in the acute phase. From a pathophysiological point of view the bleeding must traverse different stages dominated by the possibility of re-bleeding, edema, intracranial hypertension, inflammation and neurotoxicity due to blood degradation products, mainly hemoglobin and thrombin. Neurological deterioration and death are common in early hours, so it is a true neurologicalneurosurgical emergency. Time is brain so that action should be taken fast and accurately. The most significant prognostic factors are level of consciousness, location, volume and ventricular extension of the bleeding. Nihilism and early withdrawal of active therapy undoubtedly influence the final result. Although there are no proven therapeutic measures, treatment should be individualized and guided preferably by pathophysiology. The multidisciplinary teamwork is essential. Results of recently completed studies have birth to promising new strategies. For correct management it's important to establish an orderly and systematic strategy based on clinical stabilization, evaluation and establishment of prognosis, avoiding secondary insults and adoption of specific individualized therapies, including hemostatic therapy and intensive control of elevated blood pressure. | 4 | Therapeutic implications of colon cancer stem cells显示文摘Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related death in many industrialized countries and is characterized by a heterogenic pool of cells with distinct differentiation patterns. Recently, the concept that cancer might arise from a rare population of cells with stem cell-like properties has received support with regard to several solid tumors, including colorectal cancer. According to the cancer stem cell hypothesis, cancer can be considered a disease in which mutations either convert normal stem cells into aberrant counterparts or cause a more differentiated cell to revert toward a stem cell-like behaviour; either way these cells are thought to be responsible for tumor generation and propagation. The statement that only a subset of cells drives tumor formation has major implications for the development of new targeted therapeutic strategies aimed at eradicating the tumor stem cell population. | 5 | Portable lensless wide-field microscopy imaging platform based on digital inline holography and multi-frame pixel super-resolution显示文摘In this paper,an irregular displacement-based lensless wide-field microscopy imaging platform is presented by combining digital in-line holography and computational pixel super-resolution using multi-frame processing.The samples are illuminated by a nearly coherent illumination system,where the hologram shadows are projected into a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor-based imaging sensor.To increase the resolution,a multi-frame pixel resolution approach is employed to produce a single holographic image from multiple frame observations of the scene,with small planar displacements.Displacements are resolved by a hybrid approach:(i)alignment of the LR images by a fast feature-based registration method,and(ii)fine adjustment of the sub-pixel information using a continuous optimization approach designed to find the global optimum solution.Numerical method for phase-retrieval is applied to decode the signal and reconstruct the morphological details of the analyzed sample.The presented approach was evaluated with various biological samples including sperm and platelets,whose dimensions are in the order of a few microns.The obtained results demonstrate a spatial resolution of 1.55 μm on a field-of-view of<30 mm^(2). | Antonio C Sobieranski Fatih Inci H Cumhur Tekin Mehmet Yuksekkaya Eros Comunello Daniel Cobra Aldo von Wangenheim Utkan Demirci | 2015 | Light(Science & Applications)2015,4,1: | 7 |
| 6 | Recurrent carpal tunnel syndrome: Evaluation and treatment of the possible causes显示文摘AIM To investigate the causes of the recurrent carpal tunnel syndrome(CTS) and implemented surgical interventions.METHODS Four hundred and eighty-seven patients, who were diagnosed with CTS and underwent surgical intervention between October 2016 and September 2007, were evaluated in this retrospective study. The age, gender, physical evaluation findings, electrophysiological examination reports and implemented surgical treatment methods were analyzed.RESULTS Thirty-nine of the cases were operated due to recurrent CTS. Further examination of the patients with recurrent CTS revealed that ten cases had diabetic polyneuropathy, three cases had hypothyroidism, two cases had rheumatoid arthritis and one case had systemic amyloidosis. Postoperative electromyography confirmed the neuropathy was due to systemic diseases. The remaining 23 patients with recurrent CTS did not have any systemic disease and all of them had applied previously to another health center. CONCLUSION We concluded that the recurrence rates in CTS might be decreased with exploration and incision of the entire transverse ligament. | 7 | Postoperative visual performance with a bifocal and trifocal diffractive intraocular lens during a 1-year follow-up显示文摘AIM:To evaluate and compare the clinical outcomes with a diffractive bifocal and trifocal intraocular lens(IOL) during a 12-month follow-up.METHODS:Prospective comparative study including 75 eyes of 38 patients(44-70 y) undergoing uneventful cataract surgery.Each patient was randomly assigned to one type of IOL,bifocal(35 eyes) or trifocal(40 eyes).Visual,refractive,and contrast sensitivity changes were evaluated in a 12-month follow-up.The binocular defocus curve was also measured at 12 mo postoperatively.RESULTS:No statistically significant differences between groups were found in postoperative uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuities(P≥0.276).Postoperative corrected near visual acuity(33 cm) was significantly better in the trifocal group during all follow-up(P≤0.004) as well as 6-month uncorrected near(P=0.008) and distancecorrected near visual acuities(P=0.016)(33/40 cm).Significantly better uncorrected intermediate and distance corrected-intermediate visual acuity were found during all follow-up in the trifocal group(P<0.001),which was consistent with differences among groups in binocular defocus curve.Differences among groups in contrast sensitivity were minimal,being only significant at 6 months for some low to medium spatial frequencies(P≤0.006).CONCLUSION:Bifocal and trifocal diffractive IOLs are able to provide an effective visual restoration which is maintained during a 12-month follow-up,with a clear benefit of the trifocal IOL for the intermediate vision. | Peter Mojzis Lucia Kukuckova Katarina Majerova Peter Ziak David P.Pi?ero | 2017 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2017,10,10: | 3 |
| 8 | A Novel Automatic Classification System Based on Hybrid Unsupervised and Supervised Machine Learning for Electrospun Nanofibers显示文摘The manufacturing of nanomaterials by the electrospinning process requires accurate and meticulous inspection of related scanning electron microscope(SEM)images of the electrospun nanofiber,to ensure that no structural defects are produced.The presence of anomalies prevents practical application of the electrospun nanofibrous material in nanotechnology.Hence,the automatic monitoring and quality control of nanomaterials is a relevant challenge in the context of Industry 4.0.In this paper,a novel automatic classification system for homogenous(anomaly-free)and non-homogenous(with defects)nanofibers is proposed.The inspection procedure aims at avoiding direct processing of the redundant full SEM image.Specifically,the image to be analyzed is first partitioned into subimages(nanopatches)that are then used as input to a hybrid unsupervised and supervised machine learning system.In the first step,an autoencoder(AE)is trained with unsupervised learning to generate a code representing the input image with a vector of relevant features.Next,a multilayer perceptron(MLP),trained with supervised learning,uses the extracted features to classify non-homogenous nanofiber(NH-NF)and homogenous nanofiber(H-NF)patches.The resulting novel AE-MLP system is shown to outperform other standard machine learning models and other recent state-of-the-art techniques,reporting accuracy rate up to92.5%.In addition,the proposed approach leads to model complexity reduction with respect to other deep learning strategies such as convolutional neural networks(CNN).The encouraging performance achieved in this benchmark study can stimulate the application of the proposed scheme in other challenging industrial manufacturing tasks. | Cosimo Ieracitano Annunziata Paviglianiti Maurizio Campolo Amir Hussain Eros Pasero Francesco Carlo Morabito | 2021 | IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2021,8,1: | 3 |
