| 1 | Advances in Tropical Soil Characterization via Portable X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry显示文摘Portable X-ray fluorescence(pXRF) spectrometers can be used to determine the elemental composition easily, rapidly, and without using chemical reagents, which is very important for tropical regions due to the lack of detailed soil characterization data. Moreover,pXRF data can be used to predict the results of more expensive, time-consuming, and conventional laboratory analyses. This study sought to determine the elemental composition of various soil profiles using pXRF. Two operational modes(Trace Mode and General Mode) and two scanning time(30 and 60 s) were assessed to determine their effects on the correlation of pXRF dataset with respect to conventional inductively coupled plasma(ICP)-optical emission spectrometry analysis. This relationship has been reported in previous studies, however, few studies were performed on tropical soils, which are unique. Furthermore, such relationships establish the viability of developing prediction models directly from pXRF data. Linear regression was applied to develop calibration models for the prediction of ICP analysis results and exchangeable and available elemental contents based on pXRF data. High coefficients of determination(R^2) were obtained for Ca(0.87), Cu(0.90), Fe(0.95), Mn(0.85), Cr(0.95), V(0.72), and Ni(0.90), with adequate validation. Statistically significant results were not found for Al, K, Zn, Ti, and Zr. The models predicting the exchangeable Ca based on the total Ca from p XRF reached an R^2 of up to 0.85. Operational modes influenced the pXRF results. Our results illustrate that pXRF holds great promise for tropical soil characterization and the development of prediction models, justifying the need for larger-scale studies in tropical countries worldwide. | Elen A. | 2 | Automatic Detection of COVID-19 Infection Using Chest X-Ray Images Through Transfer Learning显示文摘The new coronavirus(COVID-19),declared by the World Health Organization as a pandemic,has infected more than 1 million people and killed more than 50 thousand.An infection caused by COVID-19 can develop into pneumonia,which can be detected by a chest X-ray exam and should be treated appropriately.In this work,we propose an automatic detection method for COVID-19 infection based on chest X-ray images.The datasets constructed for this study are composed of194 X-ray images of patients diagnosed with coronavirus and 194 X-ray images of healthy patients.Since few images of patients with COVID-19 are publicly available,we apply the concept of transfer learning for this task.We use different architectures of convolutional neural networks(CNNs)trained on Image Net,and adapt them to behave as feature extractors for the X-ray images.Then,the CNNs are combined with consolidated machine learning methods,such as k-Nearest Neighbor,Bayes,Random Forest,multilayer perceptron(MLP),and support vector machine(SVM).The results show that,for one of the datasets,the extractor-classifier pair with the best performance is the Mobile Net architecture with the SVM classifier using a linear kernel,which achieves an accuracy and an F1-score of 98.5%.For the other dataset,the best pair is Dense Net201 with MLP,achieving an accuracy and an F1-score of 95.6%.Thus,the proposed approach demonstrates efficiency in detecting COVID-19 in X-ray images. | Elene Firmeza Ohata Gabriel Maia Bezerra João Victor Souza das Chagas Aloísio Vieira Lira Neto Adriano Bessa Albuquerque Victor Hugo Cde Albuquerque Pedro Pedrosa Rebouças Filho | 2021 | IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2021,8,1: | 3 |
| 3 | Lactobacillus bulgaricus inhibits colitis-associated cancer via a negative regulation of intestinal inflammation in azoxymethane/dextran sodium sulfate model显示文摘BACKGROUND Colitis-associated cancer(CAC)accounts for 2%-3%of colorectal cancer(CRC)cases preceded by inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.Intestinal microbiota has been reported to play a central role in the pathogenesis of IBD and CAC.Recently,numerous prebiotics and probiotics have being investigated as antitumor agents due to their capacity to modulate inflammatory responses.Previous studies have indicated that lactic acid bacteria could be successfully used in managing sporadic CRC,however little is known about their role in CAC.AIM To investigate the effect of the probiotic Lactobacillus bulgaricus(L.bulgaricus)during the development of an experimental model of colitis associated colon cancer(CAC).METHODS C57BL/6 mice received an intraperitoneal injection of azoxymethane(10 mg/kg),followed by three cycles of sodium dextran sulphate diluted in water(5%w/v).Probiotic group received daily L.bulgaricus.Intestinal inflammation was determined by scoring clinical signs.Cytokines levels were determined from colon and/or tumor samples by ELISA BD OptEIATM kits.The level of significance was set at P<0.05.Graphs were generated and statistical analysis performed using the software GraphPad Prism 6.0.RESULTS L.bulgaricus treatment inhibited of total tumor volume and mean size of tumors.In addition,the probiotic also attenuated the clinical signs of intestinal inflammation inducing a decrease in intestinal and tumor levels of IL-6,TNF-α,IL-17,IL-23 and IL-1β.CONCLUSION Our results suggest a potential chemopreventive effect of probiotic on CAC.L.bulgaricus regulates the inflammatory response and preventing CAC. | Denise Sayuri Calheiros Silveira Luciana Chain Veronez Luis Carlos Lopes-Junior Elen Anatriello Mariangela Ottoboni Brunaldi Gabriela Pereira-da-Silva | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,43: | 3 |
