1A review of stress concentration factors in tubular and non-tubular joints for design of offshore installations显示文摘Tubular structures are widely used in offshore installations,trusses,high rise buildings,towers for wind turbines,ski-lift installations,lightning,road pole signals etc.,owing to their excellent structural performance and attractive appearance.Stress concentration,especially in the welded joints of these structures,is an important design consideration particularly for fatigue design.In the context of tubular and non-tubular joints,this paper provides a review of the experimental and numerical studies that have been carried out so far to determine the stress concentration factor(SCF).Emphasis is also placed on the complexity of capturing different types of stresses in tubular/non-tubular joints for estimation of SCF.Present code provisions for evaluation of SCF are also discussed.Further,a few issues,which require significant research effort to advance our understanding and to improve the current design guidelines,have been identified.©2016 Shanghai Jiaotong University.Published by Elsevier B.V.Dikshant Singh Saini Debasis Karmakar Samit Ray-Chaudhuri 2016Journal of Ocean Engineering and Science2016,1,3:4
2Bayesian inference and life testing plans for generalized exponential distribution显示文摘Recently generalized exponential distribution has received considerable attentions.In this paper,we deal with the Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters of the progressively censored generalized exponential distribution.It is assumed that the scale and the shape parameters have independent gamma priors.The Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in the closed form.Lindley's approximation and importance sampling technique have been suggested to compute the approximate Bayes estimates.Markov Chain Monte Carlo method has been used to compute the approximate Bayes estimates and also to construct the highest posterior density credible intervals.We also provide different criteria to compare two different sampling schemes and hence to ?nd the optimal sampling schemes.It is observed that ?nding the optimum censoring procedure is a computationally expensive process.And we have recommended to use the sub-optimal censoring procedure,which can be obtained very easily.Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the different methods and one data analysis has been performed for illustrative purposes.KUNDU Debasis PRADHAN Biswabrata 2009Science China Mathematics2009,52,6:4
3在类型 2 糖尿病的生活方式干预的机械学的研究显示文摘 AIM:To investigate the effect of lifestyle interventions in the non-pharmacological management of type 2 diabetes via a mechanistic approach.METHODS:A randomized controlled trial was carried out on 60 type 2 diabetic male and female volunteers that fulfilled the inclusion criteria,with their proper consent and permission of the International Electrotechnical Commission for 1 year.30 patients were included in the test group and 30 patients in the control group.Demographic details,anthropometrical status,physical activity,food habits and blood glucose lipid profile of the volunteers were recorded at baseline,the test group was directed for lifestyle intervention and final blood glucose lipid data were collected at the end of one year of patient follow-up.RESULTS:After 1 year,the test group who had a lifestyle intervention was found to show a significant improvement in blood glucose lipid profile.The fasting plasma glucose level(FPG),postprandial plasma glucose level(PPG),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) and body mass index(BMI) values of the test group were reduced significantly,up to 145 ± 2.52,174 ± 2.59,6.3 ± 0.32 and 25 ± 0.41 respectively at the end of the study period,in comparison to the control group whereFPG,PPG,HbA1c and BMI values were 193 ± 3.36,249 ± 4.24,7.2 ± 0.42 and 26 ± 0.65 respectively.Improvement in the total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoproteins(HDL) and low-density lipoproteins(LDL) values of the test group was also remarkable in comparison to the control group.The TC,TG,HDL and LDL values of the test group were reduced significantly,up to 149 ± 3.32,124 ± 2.16,58 ± 0.62 and 118 ± 2.31,respectively.CONCLUSION:The significant improvement in the blood glucose lipid profile of the test group after 1 year signifies the value of non-pharmacological management of type 2 diabetes via lifestyle intervention strategies.Analava Mitra Debasis Dewanjee Baishakhi Dey 2012World Journal of Diabetes2012,3,12:3
4Experimental and Quantum Studies on Adsorption and Corrosion Inhibition Effect on Mild Steel in Hydrochloric Acid by Thiophene Derivatives显示文摘The inhibition effect of synthesized diethyl 3,4-bis(4-methoxybenzylideneamino) thieno[2,3-b]thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate(Inh I) and diethyl 3,4-bis(benzylideneamino) thieno[2,3-b]thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate(Inh Ⅱ),on corrosion of mild steel in 15%HC1 solution was investigated using weight loss measurements,electrochemical polarization,and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques.The experimental results show that the inhibition efficiency of studied inhibitors increased with the increase of inhibitors concentration but decreased with the increase of temperature.Corrosion inhibition efficiencies of 94.5%and 92.1%were obtained with 250 ppm of Inh I and Inh Ⅱ at 303 K,respectively.The potentiodynamic polarization measurements indicate that the studied inhibitors act as mixed inhibitor.The thermodynamic parameters of the corrosion and adsorption processes were calculated and evaluated.The adsorption of these inhibitors was found to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm.Scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize the surface morphology of the mild steel specimens in presence and absence of inhibitors.The mechanism of the inhibition process was discussed in the light of the chemical structure and quantum-chemical calculations of the investigated inhibitors.M.Yadav Debasis Behera R.R.Sinha P.N.Yadav 2014Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2014,27,1:3

6Design of crown pillar thickness using finite element method and multivariate regression analysis显示文摘Minerals are now being extracted from deep mines due to drying up of resource in shallow ground. The need for suitable supports and ground control mechanisms for safe mining necessitates proper pillar design with filling technology. In addition, high horizontal stress may cause collapse of hanging wall and footwall rocks, hence designing of suitable crown pillars is absolutely necessary for imposing overall safety of the stopes. This paper provides a methodology for the evaluation of the required thickness of crown pillars for safe operation at depth ranging from 600 m to 1000 m. Analyses are conducted with the results of 108 non-linear numerical models considering Drucker-Prager material model in plane strain condition. Material properties of ore body rock and thickness of crown pillars are varied and safety factors of pillars estimated. Then, a generalized statistical relationship between the safety factors of crown pillars with the various input parameters is developed. 7Actinobacteria-enhanced plant growth, nutrient acquisition, and crop protection:Advances in soil, plant, and microbial multifactorial interactions显示文摘Agricultural areas of land are deteriorating every day owing to population increase, rapid urbanization, and industrialization. To feed today’s huge populations, increased crop production is required from smaller areas, which warrants the continuous application of high doses of inorganic fertilizers to agricultural land. These cause damage to soil health and, therefore, nutrient imbalance conditions in arable soils. Under these conditions, the benefits of microbial inoculants (such as Actinobacteria) as replacements for harmful chemicals and promoting ecofriendly sustainable farming practices have been made clear through recent technological advances. There are multifunctional traits involved in the production of different types of bioactive compounds responsible for plant growth promotion, and the biocontrol of phytopathogens has reduced the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. 8Review on the phosphate-based conversion coatings of magnesium and its alloys显示文摘Magnesium(Mg)and its alloys are lightweight as well as biocompatible and possess a high strength-to-weight ratio,making them suitable for many industries,including aerospace,automobile,and medical.The major challenge is their high susceptibility to corrosion,thereby limiting their usability.The considerably lower reduction potential of Mg compared to other metals makes it vulnerable to galvanic coupling.The oxide layer on Mg offers little corrosion resistance because of its high porosity,inhomogeneity,and fragility.Chemical conversion coatings(CCs)belong to a distinct class because of underlying chemical reactions,which are fundamentally different from other types of coating.Typically,a CC acts as an intermediate sandwich layer between the base metal and an aesthetic paint.Although chromate CCs offer superior performance compared to phosphate CCs,yet still they release carcinogenic hexavalent chromium ions(Cr^(6+));therefore,their use is prohibited in most European nations under the Registration,Evaluation,Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals legislation framework.Phosphate-based CCs are a cost-effective and environment-friendly alternative.Accordingly,this review primarily focuses on different types of phosphate-based CCs,such as zinc,calcium,Mg,vanadium,manganese,and permanganate.It discusses their mechanisms,current status,pretreatment practices,and the influence of various parameters-such as pH,temperature,immersion time,and bath composition-on the coating performance.Some challenges associated with phosphate CCs and future research directions are also elaborated.Debasis Saran Atul Kumar Sivaiah Bathula David Klaumünzer Kisor K Sahu 2022International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2022,29,7:2
9Machine-learning-based intelligent framework for discovering refractory high-entropy alloys with improved high-temperature yield strength显示文摘Refractory high-entropy alloys(RHEAs)show significant elevated-temperature yield strengths and have potential to use as high-performance materials in gas turbine engines.Exploring the vast RHEA compositional space experimentally is challenging,and a small fraction of this space has been explored to date.This work demonstrates the development of a state-of-the-art machine learning framework coupled with optimization methods to intelligently explore the vast compositional space and drive the search in a direction that improves high-temperature yield strengths.Our yield strength model is shown to have a significantly improved predictive accuracy relative to the state-of-the-art approach,and also provides inherent uncertainty quantification through the use of repeated k-fold cross-validation.Upon developing and validating a robust yield strength prediction model,the coupled framework is used to discover RHEAs with superior high temperature yield strength.We have shown that RHEA compositions can be customized to have maximum yield strength at a specific temperature.Stephen A.Giles Debasis Sengupta Scott R.Broderick Krishna Rajan 2022npj Computational Materials2022,,1:2
