| 1 | Ultrafast epitaxial growth of metre-sized single-crystal graphene on industrial Cu foil显示文摘A foundation of the modern technology that uses single-crystal silicon has been the growth of highquality single-crystal Si ingots with diameters up to 12 inches or larger. For many applications of graphene, large-area high-quality(ideally of single-crystal) material will be enabling. Since the first growth on copper foil a decade ago, inch-sized single-crystal graphene has been achieved. We present here the growth, in 20 min, of a graphene film of(5 ×50) cm^2 dimension with >99% ultra-highly oriented grains.This growth was achieved by:(1) synthesis of metre-sized single-crystal Cu(1 1 1) foil as substrate;(2)epitaxial growth of graphene islands on the Cu(1 1 1) surface;(3) seamless merging of such graphene islands into a graphene film with high single crystallinity and(4) the ultrafast growth of graphene film.These achievements were realized by a temperature-gradient-driven annealing technique to produce single-crystal Cu(1 1 1) from industrial polycrystalline Cu foil and the marvellous effects of a continuous oxygen supply from an adjacent oxide. The as-synthesized graphene film, with very few misoriented grains(if any), has a mobility up to ~23,000 cm^2 V^(-1)s^(-1)at 4 K and room temperature sheet resistance of ~230 Ω/□. | 2 | Transplantation of neurotrophin-3-transfected bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells for the repair of spinal cord injury显示文摘Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation has been shown to be therapeutic in the repair of spinal cord injury. However, the low survival rate of transplanted bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in vivo remains a problem. Neurotrophin-3 promotes motor neuron survival and it is hypothesized that its transfection can enhance the therapeutic effect. We show that in vitro transfection of neurotrophin-3 gene increases the number of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in the region of spinal cord injury. | 4 | The discovery of surface runoff in the megadunes of Badain Jaran Desert,China,and its significance显示文摘The Badain Jaran Desert exhibits the greatest difference in altitude of all of the world's deserts.On the slopes of megadunes in the desert,there are physical and chemical deposits produced by surface runoff.In addition,we have observed rarely-seen infiltration-excess surface runoff in the megadune depressions as well as spring streams at the base of megadunes.We used electron microscopy,energy spectrum analysis,infiltration experiments,moisture content determinations and grain-size analysis to study the mineral and chemical composition of the runoff precipitates,and grain-size of the deposits associated with the runoff,together with the hydrological balance in the megadune area,and the atmospheric precipitation mechanism responsible for groundwater recharge and for supplying water to lakes.The observations of shallow runoff and infiltration-excess surface runoff indicate the occurrence of strong and effective precipitation in summer,which would provide an important source for groundwater recharge.Several lines of evidence,such as the physical and chemical deposits resulting from shallow subsurface runoff,spring streams,infiltration-excess runoff,and gravity capillary water with a moisture content of 3-6%,demonstrate that precipitation reaches the base of the megadunes through infiltration and subsequently becomes groundwater.The chemical deposits,such as newly-formed calcite and gypsum,and gray-black physical deposits,as well as different stages in the development of fan-shaped landforms resulting from shallow subsurface runoff,indicate that groundwater recharge in the area is the result of long-term precipitation,rather than intermittent individual major rainfall events.Fine sand layers with a low infiltration capacity lead to subsurface runoff emerging at the ground surface.Five factors play an important role in maintaining a positive water balance and in replenishing groundwater via rainfall:effective rainfall as a water source,the high infiltration capacity of the sands enabling rainfall to rapidly become capillary water in the dunes,low evapotranspiration rates due to the sparse vegetation,the fact that the depth of the sand layer influenced by evaporation is shallow enough to maximize the deep infiltration of rainfall,and rapidly-moving gravity capillary water in the sandy dunes.These five factors together constitute a mechanism for groundwater recharge from rainfall,and explain the origin of the groundwater and lakes in the area.Our findings represent a significant advance in research on the hydrological cycle,including groundwater recharge conditions and recharge mechanisms,in this desert region. | ZHAO JingBo MA YanDong LUO XiaoQing YUE DaPeng SHAO TianJie DONG ZhiBao | 2017 | Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,4: | 3 |
| 5 | Experiment and simulation study of emergency evacuation during violent attack in classrooms显示文摘In recent years,as a disaster,terrorist attacks have occurred throughout the world.However,emergency evac-uation behaviors during these incidents were not clear,and the traditional emergency plans were not suitable for such incidents.In this paper,evacuation behaviors under armed assault attack in a classroom were studied based on evacuation experiments.A total of 103 participants took part in three experiments.In each experiment,the attacker’s attacking route was set differently to study the impact of the attacking route on evacuation be-haviors.Pre-evacuation delay,panic of the evacuees,exit choices,evacuation time,and evacuees’trajectories in the experiments were all analyzed.The results of the experiments showed that when a terrorist attack occurs,there is a long delay before evacuation,and most of the evacuees were in the state of“observation”before they moved.When one of the participants started to evacuate or shout,other participants would begin to recognize the danger and escape quickly.These three experiments showed that the route of the attacker had a significant impact on the routes and exit choices of the evacuees.Rather than searching for the nearest exit,the primary purpose of evacuees was to keep a safe distance from the attacker.The average speed of the evacuees in these three experiments was 1.07 m/s,0.81 m/s,and 0.84 m/s,respectively.The density distribution during the crowd evacuation process was uneven,with the highest density occurring at the area from the seats to the aisles.The research can provide data support for the design of emergency plans and the computer simulation of the armed assault attack. | Ning Ding Yihang Ma Dapeng Dong Yadi Wang | 2021 | Journal of Safety Science and Resilience2021,2,4: | 2 |
| 6 | Functional delivery vehicle of organic nanoparticles in inorganic crystals显示文摘Encapsulation of bioactive substances for extended shelf life and controlled,targeted release is critical for their applications in food and drug delivery.Here,a new method has been developed to encapsulate bioactive molecules in the crystal composites,showing greatly enhanced stability and unique pHtriggered response.Chlorophyll,a model bioactive,is first loaded in shellac nanoparticles via coprecipitation with a high encapsulation efficiency,and then the chlorophyll-loaded nanoparticles are incorporated into calcite crystals grown from a gel media containing the nanoparticles.Under the protection of shellac nanoparticles and calcite crystals,chlorophyll shows excellent stability even under light.Encapsulated chlorophyll could only be released by first dissolving the calcite crystals under acidic condition and then dissolving the shellac nanoparticles under alkaline condition.The unique pHtriggered release mimics the pH change from acidic in the stomach to alkaline in the intestine and is thus well suited for controlled,targeted intestinal release.This work suggests that the crystal composites are an ideal delivery vehicle for the functional design of bioactive molecules. | Linlin Kong Xinyi Jin Dapeng Hu Leyun Feng Dong Chen Hanying Li | 2019 | Chinese Chemical Letters2019,30,12: | 2 |
| 7 | Serological Investigation of Laboratory-Confirmed and Suspected Ebola Virus Disease Patients During the Late Phase of the Ebola Outbreak in Sierra Leone显示文摘This study aimed to investigate the serological characteristics of Ebola virus(EBOV) infection during the late phase of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. In total, 877 blood samples from 694 suspected Ebola virus disease(EVD) cases assessed from March to December 2015, were analyzed via real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) for viral RNA and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and Luminex to detect antibodies against EBOV. Viral load and EBOV-specific IgM/IgG titers displayed a declining trend during March to December 2015. Viral RNA load decreased rapidly at earlier stages after disease onset, while EBOV-specific IgM and IgG still persisted in 58.1%(18/31) and 93.5%(29/31) of the confirmed EVD patients and in 3.8%(25/663) and 17.8%(118/663) of the RNA-negative suspected patients in the later phase, respectively. | 9 | Effect of Cu on Discontinuous Precipitation of a Symmetrical AlZn Alloy显示文摘The effect of Cu additions on discontinuous precipitation of AlZn alloy were studied with optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. It is found that the effect of addition of 2 at. pct Cu on cellular nucleation site is not remarkable, while the effect of aging temperature on cellular nucleation site of AlZn and AlZn-2Cu alloys is fairly obvious. The cell growth rate of discontinuous precipitation of AlZn alloy is remarkably accelerated with the addition of 2 at. pct Cu. The discontinuous precipitation microstructure of AlZn alloy is not apparently affected with the addition of 2 at. pct Cu and the cellular front is still fine microstructure of spinodal decomposition. The phase constituents consist of a fcc Al-rich phase, a hcp Zn-rich phase and a CuZn4 phase.
