| 1 | Xa1 Allelic R Genes Activate Rice Blight Resistance Suppressed by Interfering TAL Effectors显示文摘Xanthomonas oryzae pathovar oryzae(Xoo)uses transcription activator-like effectors(TALEs)to cause bacterial blight(BB)in rice.In turn, rice has evolved several mechanisms to resist BB by targeting TALEs.One mechanism involves the nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat(NLR)resistance gene Xa1 and TALEs.Reciprocally,Xoo has evolved TALE variants,C-terminally truncated versions(interfering TALEs or iTALEs),to overcome Xa1 resistance. However,it remains unknown to what extent the two co-adaptive mechanisms mediate Xoo–rice interactions. In this study,we cloned and characterized five additional Xa1 allelic R genes,Xa2,Xa31(t),Xa14,CGS-Xo111,and Xa45(t)from a collection of rice accessions.Sequence analysis revealed that Xa2 and Xa31(t)from different rice cultivars are identical. These genes and their predicted proteins were found to be highly conserved, forming a group of Xa1 alleles. The XA1 alleles could be distinguished by the number of C-terminal tandemrepeats consisting of 93 amino acid residues and ranged from four in XA14 to seven in XA45(t).Xa1 allelic genes were identified in the 3000 rice genomes surveyed. On the other hand,iTALEs could suppress the resistance mediated by Xa1 allelic R genes, and iTALE genes were prevalent(95%)in Asian, but not in African Xoo strains. Our findings demonstrate the prominence of a defense mechanism in which rice depends on Xa1 alleles and a counteracting mechanismin which Xoo relies on iTALEs for BB. | Chonghui Ji Zhiyuan Ji Bo Liu He Cheng Hua Liu Sanzhen Liu Bing Yang Gongyou Chen | 2020 | Plant Communications2020,1,4: | 14 |
| 2 | Standard pancreatoduodenectomy versus extended pancreatoduodenectomy with modified retroperitoneal nerve resection in patients with pancreatic head cancer:a multicenter randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background:The extent of pancreatoduodenectomy for pancreatic head cancer remains controversial, and more high-level clinical evidence is needed. This study aimed to evaluate the outcome of extended pancreatoduodenectomy(EPD)with retroperitoneal nerve resection in pancreatic head cancer. Methods:This multicenter randomized trial was performed at 6 Chinese highvolume hospitals that enrolled patients between October 3,2012,and September 21,2017.Four hundred patients with stage I or II pancreatic head cancer and without specific pancreatic cancer treatments(preoperative chemotherapy or chemoradiation)within three months were randomly assigned to undergo standard pancreatoduodenectomy(SPD)or EPD,with the latter followed by dissection of additional lymph nodes(LNs),nerves and soft tissues 270◦on the right side surrounding the superior mesenteric artery and celiac axis. The primary endpoint was overall survival(OS)by intention-to-treat(ITT).The secondary endpoints were disease-free survival(DFS),mortality, morbidity, and postoperative pain intensity.Results:TheR1 ratewas slightly lower with EPD(8.46%)thanwith SPD(12.56%).The morbidity and mortality rates were similar between the two groups. The median OS was similar in the EPD and SPD groups by ITT in the whole study cohort(23.0 vs.20.2 months,P=0.100),while the median DFS was superior in the EPD group(16.1 vs.13.2 months,P=0.031).Patients with preoperative CA19–9<200.0 U/mL had significantly improved OS and DFS with EPD(EPD vs.SPD,30.8 vs.20.9 months,P=0.009;23.4 vs.13.5 months,P<0.001).The EPD group exhibited significantly lower locoregional(16.48%vs.35.20%,P<0.001)andmesenteric LNrecurrence rates(3.98%vs.10.06%,P=0.022).The EPD group exhibited less back pain 6 months postoperation than the SPD group. Conclusions:EPD for pancreatic head cancer did not significantly improve OS,but patients with EPD treatment had significantly improved DFS.In the subgroup analysis, improvements in bothOS and DFS in the EPD armwere observed in patients with preoperative CA19–9<200.0 U/mL.EPD could be used as an effective surgical procedure for patients with pancreatic head cancer, especially those with preoperative CA19–9<200.0 U/mL. | Qing Lin Shangyou Zheng Xianjun Yu Meifu Chen Yu Zhou Quanbo Zhou Chonghui Hu Jing Gu Zhongdong Xu LinWang Yimin Liu Qingyu Liu MinWang Guolin Li He Cheng Dongkai Zhou Guodong Liu Zhiqiang Fu Yu Long Yixiong Li Weilin Wang Renyi Qin Zhihua Li Rufu Chen | 2023 | Cancer Communications2023,43,2: | 3 |
| 3 | Optimization of the OCO-2 Cloud Screening Algorithm and Evaluation against MODIS and TCCON Measurements over Land Surfaces in Europe and Japan显示文摘A method to tighten the cloud screening thresholds based on local conditions is used to provide more stringent schemes for Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2(OCO-2)cloud screening algorithms.Cloud screening strategies are essential to remove scenes with significant cloud and/or aerosol contamination from OCO-2 observations, which helps to save on the data processing cost and ensure high quality retrievals of the column-averaged CO2 dry air mole fraction(XCO2).Based on the radiance measurements in the 0.76μm O2A band,1.61μm(weak),and 2.06μm(strong)CO2 bands, the current combination of the A-Band Preprocessor(ABP)algorithm and Iterative Maximum A Posteriori(IMAP)Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy(DOAS)Preprocessor(IDP)algorithm passes around 20%-25%of all soundings, which means that some contaminated scenes also pass the screening process. In this work, three independent pairs of threshold parameters used in the ABP and IDP algorithms are sufficiently tuned until the overall pass rate is close to the monthly clear-sky fraction from the MODIS cloud mask. The tightened thresholds are applied to observations over land surfaces in Europe and Japan in 2016.The results show improvement of agreement and positive predictive value compared to the collocated MODIS cloud mask, especially in summer and fall.In addition, analysis indicates that XCO2 retrievals with more stringent thresholds are in closer agreement with measurements from collocated Total Carbon Column Observing Network(TCCON)sites. | Sijie CHEN Shuaibo WANG Lin SU Changzhe DONG Ju KE Zhuofan ZHENG Chonghui CHENG Bowen TONG Dong LIU | 2020 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2020,37,4: | 1 |
