2Influences of external heat transfer and Thomson effect on the performance of TEG-TEC combined thermoelectric device显示文摘A thermodynamic model of a thermoelectric generator(TEG)-driven thermoelectric cooler(TEC) device considering Thomson effect and external heat transfer(HT) is established based on the combination of non-equilibrium and finite time thermodynamic theories. The expressions of cooling capacity and coefficient of performance(COP) are obtained. Performances are compared with and without considering Thomson effect using numerical optimization method. The influences of Thomson effect on the optimal performances, optimum allocations of thermoelectric(TE) element number and HT surface area are discussed. The results indicate that Thomson effect decreases the maximum cooling capacity and COP. More TE elements should be allocated to TEG, and more HT area should be allocated to the heat exchanger(HEX) of TEG, the hot-side HEX of TEG and the cold-side HEX of TEC in the design of the device considering Thomson effect. 3Effects and safety of aspirin use in patients after cerebrovascular bypass procedures显示文摘Object Superficial temporal artery to middle cerebral artery(STA-MCA)bypass is the most effective treatment for Moyamoya disease(MMD).In this study,we aimed to assess whether aspirin improves STA-MCA bypass patency and is safe in patients with MMD.Methods We performed a retrospective medical record review of patients with ischaemic-onset MMD who had undergone STA-MCA bypass at two hospitals between January 2011 and August 2018,to clarify the effects and safety of aspirin following STA-MCA bypass.The neurological status at the last follow-up(FU)was compared between patients with FU bypass patency and occlusion.Results Among 217 identified patients(238 hemispheres),the mean age was 41.4±10.2 years,and 51.8%were male;the indications for STA-MCA bypass were stroke(48.2%),followed by a transient ischaemic attack(44.0%).Immediate bypass patency was confirmed in all cases.During the FU period(1.5±1.5 y),15 cases were occluded at FU imaging,resulting in an overall cumulative patency rate of 94%.The patency rates were 93%and 94%in the short-term FU group(n=131,mean FU time 0.5±0.2 years)and long-term FU group(n=107,mean FU time 4.1±3.5 years),respectively.The STA-MCA bypass patency rate in the aspirin group was higher than that in the non-aspirin group(98.7%vs 89.7%;HR 1.57;95%CI 1.106 to 2.235;p=0.012).No significant difference in the FU haemorrhagic events was observed between the aspirin and non-aspirin groups.Conclusions Among adult patients with ischaemic-onset MMD undergoing STA-MCA bypass procedures,aspirin might increase the bypass patency rate,without increasing the bleeding risk.FU bypass patency may be associated with a better outcome.Additional studies,especially carefully designed prospective studies,are needed to address the role of aspirin after bypass procedures.Junlin Lu Guangchao Shi Yuanli Zhao Rong Wang Dong Zhang Xiaolin Chen Hao Wang Ji Zong Zhao 2021Stroke & Vascular Neurology2021,6,4:7
4Patient-derived non-small cell lung cancer xenograft mirrors complex tumor heterogeneity显示文摘Objective:Patient-derived xenograft(PDX)models have shown great promise in preclinical and translational applications,but their consistency with primary tumors in phenotypic,genetic,and pharmacodynamic heterogeneity has not been well-studied.This study aimed to establish a PDX repository for non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)and to further elucidate whether it could preserve the heterogeneity within and between tumors in patients.Methods:A total of 75 surgically resected NSCLC specimens were implanted into immunodeficient NOD/SCID mice.Based on the successful establishment of the NSCLC PDX model,we compared the expressions of vimentin,Ki67,EGFR,and PD-L1 proteins between cancer tissues and PDX models using hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemical staining.In addition,we detected whole gene expression profiling between primary tumors and PDX generations.We also performed whole exome sequencing(WES)analysis in 17 first generation xenografts to further assess whether PDXs retained the patient heterogeneities.Finally,paclitaxel,cisplatin,doxorubicin,atezolizumab,afatininb,and AZD4547 were used to evaluate the responses of PDX models to the standard-of-care agents.Results:A large collection of serially transplantable PDX models for NSCLC were successfully developed.The histology and pathological immunohistochemistry of PDX xenografts were consistent with the patients’tumor samples.WES and RNA-seq further confirmed that PDX accurately replicated the molecular heterogeneities of primary tumors.Similar to clinical patients,PDX models responded differentially to the standard-of-care treatment,including chemo-,targeted-and immuno-therapeutics.Conclusions:Our established PDX models of NSCLC faithfully reproduced the molecular,histopathological,and therapeutic characteristics,as well as the corresponding tumor heterogeneities,which provides a clinically relevant platform for drug screening,biomarker discovery,and translational research.Xuanming Chen Cheng Shen Zhe Wei Rui Zhang Yongsheng Wang Lili Jiang Ke Chen Shuang Qiu Yuanli Zhang Ting Zhang Bin Chen Yanjun Xu Qiyi Feng Jinxing Huang Zhihui Zhong Hongxia Li Guowei Che Kai Xiao 2021Cancer Biology & Medicine2021,18,1:5

6Immunohistochemical panel of glypican-3, hepatocyte paraffin antigen-1, arginase-1, cytokeratin-19, and human epithelial membrane antigen for the differential diagnosis of liver tumors显示文摘Objective Clinical immunohistochemistry plays an increasingly important role in pathologic diagnosis. We investigated the usefulness of an immunohistochemical panel of glypican-3 (GPC3), hepatocyte paraffin antigen-1 (HepPar-1), arginase-1 (Arg-1), cytokeratin-19 (CK19), and human epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) for the differential diagnosis of liver tumors. Methods Two hundred and thirty-five immunohistochemical sections of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC;120 cases), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC;50 cases), combined hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma (CHC;17 cases), metastatic adenocarcinoma (20 cases), and benign liver lesions (28 cases) were obtained from the Department of Pathology at Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. The sensitivity and specificity of the combined biomarkers GPC3/HepPar-1/Arg-1/CK19/EMA for the differential diagnosis of HCC, ICC, and CHC were calculated and analyzed retrospectively. Results The combined biomarkers GPC3+/CK19– had the highest specificity (98.3%) for diagnosing HCC, with a sensitivity of 60.0%. The specificity of GPC3–/HepPar-1–/Arg-1–/CK19+/EMA+ for diagnosing ICC was 93.0%, with a sensitivity of 76.0%. The specificity of GPC3+/HepPar-1+/Arg-1+/CK19+/EMA+ for diagnosing CHC was 95.9%, with a sensitivity of 52.9%. Conclusion The combined biomarkers GPC3/HepPar-1/Arg-1/CK19/EMA greatly improved the specificity of liver tumor diagnosis. 7Ethanolic extract of Puhuang(Pollen Typhae) modulates lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory response through inducible nitric oxide synthase/cyclooxygenase-2 signaling in RAW 264.7 macrophages显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the immune modulatory response of Puhuang(Pollen Typhae),ethanolic extract of dried pollens(TP-E)and charcoal activated pollens(CTP-E)were used for their phytochemical evaluation and their modulatory response against lipopolysaccharide(LPS)induced inflammatory activity on RAW264.7 macrophage cells.METHODS:Biochemical assays were carried out to quantify the 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl Radical Scavenging Activity,Reducing Power,Ferrous ion chelating ability and total polyphenol content and flavonoids.Non-toxic dose of the extract(TP-E and CTP-E)was chosen based on 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay.Effect of TP-E and CTP-E on lipopolysaccharides-induced inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)expression was measured by Western blot and quantitative PCR(q RT-PCR).Expression of inflammatory cytokines,such as interleukins(IL-1βand IL-6)and tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α),was quantified using q RT-PCR.Mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway was analyzed using Western blot.RESULTS:Phytochemical analysis revealed that both TP-E and CTP-E have strong antioxidant activities and high flavonoid and phenolic contents.TP-E and CTP-E effectively inhibit the expression of i NOS and COX-2,thereby inhibiting its downstream proinflammatory regulators,the extracellular signal-related kinase-1/2,that decreases the expression of IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α.CONCLUSION:Phytochemical constituents present in Typha angustifolia Linn could be used for treating inflammation-related diseases.CHEN Tzufan CHEN Chuntzu HUANG Yuanli BASKARAN Rathinasamy TSAI Jeffrey J.P. 11Quantitative angiographic haemodynamic evaluation of bypasses for complex aneurysms: a preliminary study显示文摘Objective Open microsurgery,often with bypass techniques,is indispensable for complex aneurysms.To date,it remains unknown whether arterial anatomy or quantitative blood flow measurements can predict insufficient flow-related stroke(IRS).The present study aimed to evaluate the risk factors for IRS in patients treated with open microsurgery with bypass procedures for complex internal carotid artery aneurysms.Methods Patients with complex aneurysms undergoing bypass surgery were retrospectively reviewed.The recipient/donor flow index(RDFI)was preoperatively evaluated using colour-coding angiography.RDFI was defined as the ratio of the cerebral blood volume of the recipient and donor arteries.The sizes of the recipient and donor arteries were measured.The recipient/donor diameter index(RDDI)was then calculated.IRS was defined as the presence of new postoperative neurological deficits and infarction on postoperative CT scans.We assessed the association between RDFI and other variables and the IRS.Results Twenty patients(38±12 years)were analysed.IRS was observed in 12 patients(60%).Patients with postoperative IRS had a higher RDFI than those without postoperative IRS(p<0.001).RDDI was not significantly different between patients with and without IRS(p=0.905).Patients with RDFI>2.3 were more likely to develop IRS(p<0.001).Conclusion Quantitative digital subtraction angiography enables preoperative evaluation of cerebral blood volume.RDFI>2.3,rather than RDDI,was significantly associated with postoperative IRS.This preoperative evaluation allows appropriate decisions regarding the treatment strategy for preventing postoperative IRS.Junlin Lu Chao Xue Xulin Hu Yuanli Zhao Dong Zhang Xiaolin Chen Ji Zong Zhao 2022Stroke & Vascular Neurology2022,7,1:1

16Phase Selection and Microhardness of Directionally Solidified AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1) Eutectic High-Entropy Alloy显示文摘In the present work,the solidification behaviors and microhardness of directionally solidified AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1) eutectic highentropy alloy(EHEA)obtained at different growth velocities are investigated.The microstructure of the as-cast AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1) EHEA is composed of bulky dendrites(NiAl phase)and lamellar eutectic structures,indicating that the actual composition of the alloy slightly deviates from the eutectic point.However,it is interesting to observe that the full lamellar structure of this alloy is obtained through directional solidification.In order to explain this phenomenon,the maximum interface temperature criterion and the interface response function(IRF)theory are applied to calculate the velocity range of the transition from the primary phase to the eutectic,which is 1.2–2×10^(4)μm/s.Furthermore,microhardness is one of the important parameters to measure the mechanical properties of materials.Therefore,the microhardness test is performed,and the test result indicates that the microhardness(HV)increased with increasing growth velocity(V)or decreased with increasing lamellar spacing(λ).The dependences ofλand HV on V are determined by using a linear regression analysis.The relationships between theλ,V and HV are given as:λ=11.62V^(-0.48),HV=305.5V 0.02 and HV=328.1λ^(0.04),respectively.The microhardness of the AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1) EHEA increases from 312.38 HV to 329.54 HV with the increase in growth velocity(5–200μm/s).Thus,directional solidification is an effective method to improve the mechanical properties of alloys.Peng Peng Shengyuan Li Weiqi Chen Yuanli Xu Xudong Zhang Zhikun Ma Jiatai Wang 2022Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2022,35,8:1

18Imbalance of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and matrix metalloproteinase tissue inhibitor-1 may contribute to hemorrhage in cerebellar arteriovenous malformations显示文摘In this study,we determined the expression levels of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and-9 and matrix metalloproteinase tissue inhibitor-1 and-2 in brain tissues and blood plasma of patients undergoing surgery for cerebellar arteriovenous malformations or primary epilepsy(control group).Immunohistochemistry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay revealed that the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and matrix metalloproteinase tissue inhibitor-1 was significantly higher in patients with cerebellar arteriovenous malformations than in patients with primary epilepsy.The ratio of matrix metalloproteinase-9 to matrix metalloproteinase tissue inhibitor-1 was significantly higher in patients with hemorrhagic cerebellar arteriovenous malformations compared with those with non-hemorrhagic malformations.Matrix metalloproteinase-2 and matrix metalloproteinase tissue inhibitor-2 levels were not significantly changed.These findings indicate that an imbalance of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and matrix metalloproteinase tissue inhibitor-1,resulting in a relative overabundance of matrix metalloproteinase-9,might be the underlying mechanism of hemorrhage of cerebellar arteriovenous malformations.Fei Di Tongyan Chen Hongli Li Jizong Zhao Shuo Wang Yuanli Zhao Dong Zhang 2012Neural Regeneration Research2012,7,19:0
19Organic Electrochemical Transistor based on Polypyrrole/ Crosslinked Chitosan/Nylon Fibers显示文摘Glutaraldehyde(GA)crosslinked chitosan(CHIT)was modified on nylon fibers.Afterwards,pyrrole was in-situ polymerized on the surface of the CHIT/Nylon fiber.The SEM and FT-IR results show that the functional fiber is successfully prepared,and the obtained polypyrrole(PPy)presents nanorods morphology on the fiber surface.The mechanical properties of the fibers were studied by Instron.The organic electrochemical transistors based on PPy/Nylon fiber,PPy/CHIT/Nylon fiber,and PPy/GA-CHIT/Nylon fiber as channels were prepared and their transistors performance was compared.It is found that PPy/GA-CHIT/Nylon fiber-based transistor has great output,transfer,transient curves,and excellent transconductance of 6.8 mS,providing a new platform for the field of wearable devices.Furthermore,the study introduces chitosan material with excellent biocompatibility,which makes prepared transistors also have potential applications in the field of biosensing.朱如枫 WANG Yao TAO Yang CHEN Yuanli 王跃丹 2022Journal of Wuhan University of Technology(Materials Science)2022,37,6:0
20Identification of potential indicators for testis quality in swamp eels(Monopterus albus)through metabolomics analysis显示文摘The swamp eel(Monopterus albus)is a commonly cultured freshwater fish.Selection and cultivation of fecund broodstock is crucial for efficient artificial reproduction in this species.However,there are currently no guidelines for selecting high-quality males in M.albus.This study quantitatively investigated the sperm motility of male swamp eels during the breeding season by using computer-assisted sperm analysis system.Variability in the proportion and number of motile sperm was observed between individual males.The testes were grouped into high-quality and low-quality according to sperm quality.Morphometric parameters of the two groups were analyzed.We found that high-quality testes were longer(150±27 mm verses 127±19 mm)than low-quality testes.Besides,the proportion of testes with a dark appearance was slightly higher(58.3%verses 48.1%)in the high-quality group than in the low-quality group.Metabolomic analysis was conducted to compare the metabolite profiles of high-quality and low-quality testes.Glycerophospholipids,organic acids,glycerolipids,amino acids,sphingolipids,and nucleotides were the most abundant metabolites in the testes of swamp eels.Moreover,135 differential metabolites were identified.Several nucleotide derivatives,including 50-deoxyadenosine,20-deoxyadenosine,and ribosyl adenosine,were the most significantly enriched metabolites in highquality testes.These metabolites are potential indicators for the testis quality in M.albus.Altogether,our work provides systematic and quantitative data about the physiological and biochemical characteristics of M.albus testis,which provides an evidential basis for the selection of high-fecundity parents to improve artificial reproduction efficiency of M.albus.Fei Liu Xing Lin Kaifeng Meng Yuanyuan Chen Hairong Liu Yuanli Zhao Daji Luo 2023Water Biology and Security2023,2,4:0
