| 2 | Development and validation of an endoscopic images-based deep learning model for detection with nasopharyngeal malignancies显示文摘Background:Due to the occult anatomic location of the nasopharynx and frequent presence of adenoid hyperpla-sia,the positive rate for malignancy identification during biopsy is low,thus leading to delayed or missed diagnosis for nasopharyngeal malignancies upon initial attempt.Here,we aimed to develop an artificial intelligence tool to detect nasopharyngeal malignancies under endoscopic examination based on deep learning.Methods:An endoscopic images-based nasopharyngeal malignancy detection model(eNPM-DM)consisting of a fully convolutional network based on the inception architecture was developed and fine-tuned using separate training and validation sets for both classification and segmentation.Briefly,a total of 28,966 qualified images were collected.Among these images,27,536 biopsy-proven images from 7951 individuals obtained from January 1st,2008,to December 31st,2016,were split into the training,validation and test sets at a ratio of 7:1:2 using simple randomiza-tion.Additionally,1430 images obtained from January 1st,2017,to March 31st,2017,were used as a prospective test set to compare the performance of the established model against oncologist evaluation.The dice similarity coef-ficient(DSC)was used to evaluate the efficiency of eNPM-DM in automatic segmentation of malignant area from the background of nasopharyngeal endoscopic images,by comparing automatic segmentation with manual segmenta-tion performed by the experts.Results:All images were histopathologically confirmed,and included 5713(19.7%)normal control,19,107(66.0%)nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),335(1.2%)NPC and 3811(13.2%)benign diseases.The eNPM-DM attained an overall accuracy of 88.7%(95%confidence interval(CI)87.8%-89.5%)in detecting malignancies in the test set.In the prospective comparison phase,eNPM-DM outperformed the experts:the overall accuracy was 88.0%(95%CI 86.1%-89.6%)vs.80.5%(95%CI 77.0%-84.0%).The eNPM-DM required less time(40 s vs.110.0±5.8 min)and exhibited encouraging performance in automatic segmentation of nasopharyngeal malignant area from the background,with an average DSC of 0.78±0.24 and 0.75±0.26 in the test and prospective test sets,respectively.Conclusions:The eNPM-DM outperformed oncologist evaluation in diagnostic classification of nasopharyngeal mass into benign versus malignant,and realized automatic segmentation of malignant area from the background of nasopharyngeal endoscopic images. | Chaofeng Li Bingzhong Jing Liangru Ke Bin Li Weixiong Xia Caisheng He Chaonan Qian Chong Zhao Haiqiang Mai Mingyuan Chen Kajia Cao Haoyuan Mo Ling Guo Qiuyan Chen Linquan Tang Wenze Qiu Yahui Yu Hu Liang Xinjun Huang Guoying Liu Wangzhong Li Lin Wang Rui Sun Xiong Zou Shanshan Guo Peiyu Huang Donghua Luo Fang Qiu Yishan Wu Yijun Hua Kuiyuan Liu Shuhui Lv Jingjing Miao Yanqun Xiang Ying Sun Xiang Guo Xing Lv | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 9 |
| 3 | Community assemblage of free-living diazotrophs along the elevational gradient of Mount Gongga显示文摘Mountain systems are unique for studying the responses of species distribution and diversity to environmental changes along elevational gradients.It is well known that free-living diazotrophic microorganisms are important to nitrogen cycling in mountain systems.However,the elevational patterns of free-living diazotrophs and the underlying ecological processes in controlling their turnover along broader gradients are less well documented.Here,we investigated the pattern of diazotrophic diversity along the elevational gradient(1800 m-4100 m)in Mount Gongga of China.The results showed that the α-diversity of diazotrophs did not change with the elevation from 1800 m to 2800 m,but decreased at elevations above 3000 m.Such diversity pattern was driven mainly by soil total carbon,nitrogen,and plant richness.Various diazotrophic taxa showed differential abundance-elevation relationships.Ecological processes determining diazotrophic community assemblage shift along the elevations.Deterministic processes were relatively stronger at both low and high elevations,whereas stochastic processes were stronger at the middle elevation.This study also suggested a strong relationship among aboveground plants and diazotrophs,highlighting their potential interactions,even for free-living diazotrophs. | Yansu Wang Chaonan Li Zehao Shen Junpeng Rui Decai Jin Jiabao Li Xiangzhen Li | 2019 | Soil Ecology Letters2019,1,3: | 8 |
| 4 | Soil total organic carbon/total nitrogen ratio as a key driver deterministically shapes diazotrophic community assemblages during the succession of biological soil crusts显示文摘The diazotrophic community in biological soil crusts(biocrusts)is the key supplier of nitrogen in dryland.To date,there is still limited information on how biocrust development influences the succession of diazotrophic community,and what are the most important factors mediating diazotrophic communities during biocrust succession.Using the high throughput nifH amplicon sequencing,the diazotrophs in soils at different developmental stages of biocrust were comparatively studied.The results evidenced the decreases of TOC/TN ratio and pH value with biocrust development.Nostoc and Scytonema were the most dominant diazotrophic genera at all biocrust stages,while Azospirillum and Bradyrhizobium were abundant only in bare soil.Diazotrophic co-occurrence networks tended to be less complex and less connected with biocrust succession.The soil TOC/TN ratio was the most dominant factor mediating diazotrophic diversity,community composition and assembly processes,while diazotrophic-diversity and NO3–-N/NH4+-N ratio were positively correlated with the nitrogenase activity during biocrust succession.This study provided novel understandings of nitrogen fixation and succession patterns of diazotrophic community,by showing the effects of biocrust succession on diazotrophic diversity,community composition,community assembly and co-occurrence networks,and recognizing TOC/TN ratio as the most dominant factor mediating diazotrophs during biocrust succession. | Lin Xu Bingchang Zhang Entao Wang Bingjian Zhu Minjie Yao Chaonan Li Xiangzhen Li | 2021 | Soil Ecology Letters2021,3,4: | 3 |
| 5 | In-situ generation and global property profiling of metal nanoclusters by ultraviolet laser dissociation-mass spectrometry显示文摘Metal nanoclusters are promising nanomaterials with unique properties, but only a few ones with specific numbers of metal atoms can be obtained and studied up to now. In this study, we establish a new paradigm of in-situ generation and global study of metal nanoclusters with different sizes, constitutions, and charge states, including both accurate constitution characterization and global activity profiling. The complex mixtures of metal nanoclusters are produced by employing single-pulsed 193-nm laser dissociation of monolayer-protected cluster(MPC) precursors within a high-resolution mass spectrometry(HRMS). More than400 types of bare gold nanoclusters including novel multiply charged(2+ and 3+), S-/P-doped, and silver alloy ones can be efficiently generated and accurately characterized. A distinct size(1 to 142 atoms)-and charge(1+ to 3+)-hierarchy reactivity is clearly observed for the first time. | 7 | DIW1 encoding a cladeⅠPP2C phosphatase negatively regulates drought tolerance by de-phosphorylating TaSnRK1.1 in wheat显示文摘Drought seriously impacts wheat production(Triticum aestivum L.),while the exploitation and utilization of genes for drought tolerance are insufficient.Leaf wilting is a direct reflection of drought tolerance in plants.Clade A PP2Cs are abscisic acid(ABA)co-receptors playing vital roles in the ABA signaling pathway,regulating drought response.However,the roles of other clade PP2Cs in drought tolerance,especially in wheat,remain largely unknown.Here,we identified a gain-of-function drought-induced wilting 1(DIW1)gene from the wheat Aikang 58 mutant library by map-based cloning,which encodes a cladeⅠprotein phosphatase 2C(TaPP2C158)with enhanced protein phosphatase activity.Phenotypic analysis of overexpression and CRISPR/Cas9 mutant lines demonstrated that DIW1/TaPP2C158 is a negative regulator responsible for drought resistance.We found that TaPP2C158 directly interacts with TaSnRK1.1 and de-phosphorylates it,thus inactivating the TaSnRK1.1–Ta AREB3 pathway.TaPP2C158 protein phosphatase activity is negatively correlated with ABA signaling.Association analysis suggested that C-terminal variation of TaPP2C158 changing protein phosphatase activity is highly correlated with the canopy temperature,and seedling survival rate under drought stress.Our data suggest that the favorable allele with lower phosphatase activity of TaPP2C158 has been positively selected in Chinese breeding history.This work benefits us in understanding the molecular mechanism of wheat drought tolerance,and provides elite genetic resources and molecular markers for improving wheat drought tolerance. | Jingyi Wang Chaonan Li Long Li Lifeng Gao Ge Hu Yanfei Zhang Matthew P.Reynolds Xueyong Zhang Jizeng Jia Xinguo Mao Ruilian Jing | 2023 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2023,65,8: | 1 |
| 8 | SERS study on the synergistic effects of electric field enhancement and charge transfer in an Ag2S quantum dots/plasmonic bowtie nanoantenna composite system显示文摘Localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR)of nanostructures and the interfacial charge transfer(CT)of semiconductor materials play essential roles in the study of optical and photoelectronic properties.In this paper,a composite substrate of Ag2S quantum dots(QDs)coated plasmonic Au bowtie nanoantenna(BNA)arrays with a metalinsulator-metal(MIM)configuration was built to study the synergistic effect of LSPR and interfacial CT using surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)in the near-infrared(NIR)region.The Au BNA array structure with a large enhancement of the localized electric field(E-field)strongly enhanced the Raman signal of adsorbed p-aminothiophenol(PATP)probe molecules.Meanwhile,the broad enhanced spectral region was achieved owing to the coupling of LSPR The as-prepared Au BNA array structure facilitated enhancements of the excitation as well as the emission of Raman signal simultaneously,which was established by finite-difference time-domain simulation.Moreover,Ag2S semiconductor QDs were introduced into the BNA/PATP system to further enhance Raman signals,which benefited from the interfacial CT resonance in the BNA/Ag2S-QDs/PATP system.As a result,the Raman signals of PATP in the BNA/Ag2S-QDs/PATP system were strongly enhanced under 785 nm laser excitation due to the synergistic effect of E-field enhancement and interfacial CT.Furthermore,the SERS polarization dependence effeas of the BNA/Ag2S-QDs/PATP system were also investigated.The SERS spectra indicated that the polarization dependence of the substrate increased with decreasing polarization angles(θpola)of excitation from p-polarized(θpola=90°)excitation to s-polarized(θpola=0°)excitation.This study provides a strategy using the synergistic effect of interfacial CT and E-field enhancement for SERS applications and provides a guidance for the development of SERS study on semiconductor QD-based plasmonic substrates,and can be farther extended to other material-nanostructure systems for various optoelectronic and sensing applications. | BIN WANG CHEN ZHAO HUANYU LU TINGTING ZOU SUBHASH C.SINGH ZHI YU CHAONAN YAO XIN ZHENG JUN XING YUTING ZOU CUNZHU TONG WEILI YU BO ZHAO CHUNLEI GUO | 2020 | Photonics Research2020,8,4: | 1 |

| 13 | Biochar mitigates the biotoxicity of heavy metals in livestock manure during composting显示文摘The addition of biochar could mitigate the bioavailability of heavy metals during livestock manure composting.However,the main action mechanism of biochar,such as how it worked,was ambiguous.Therefore,in this study,materials(biochar,alkali modified biochar,pretreated cotton ball)were added by embedding with nylon mesh bags to explore the adsorption performance of added materials and its influence on the composting process.The results showed that embedded materials promoted the formation of humic acid and reduced the distribution proportion of bioavailable fraction of heavy metals during composting(Cu:at least 15.72%;Zn:at least 33.44%).The surface of biochar extracted from composting contained attachments,however,the attachment of heavy metal was not detected and functional groups on the materials did no change significantly.This indicated that the addition of biochar did not directly adsorb heavy metals.Most notably,the microbial network changed after embedding materials,and the succession of microbial community promoted the formation of humic acid.Ultimately,structural equation models verified that embedded materials promoted the formation of humic acid through stable microbial groups,thereby accelerating the passivation of heavy metals during composting.This study provides theoretical and technical supports for mitigating the biotoxicity of heavy metals by biochar during composting. | Xiaomeng Chen Zhuang Du Dan Liu Liqin Wang Chaonan Pan Zimin Wei Liming Jia Ran Zhao | 2022 | Biochar2022,4,1: | 1 |

| 19 | Flexible and densified graphene/waterborne polyurethane composite film with thermal conducting property for high performance electromagnetic interference shielding显示文摘High-performance electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding materials with flexibility,excellent mechanical property,and thermal conductivity are highly desired for fifth-generation communications devices.Graphene exhibits tremendous potential due to its high electrical conductivity and unique lamellar structure.However,the construction of densified graphene structure in polymer matrix is still challenging.Herein,we develop a graphene/waterborne polyurethane(G/WPU)flexible film with densified and ordered layer-structure for using as an EMI shielding material.By virtue of the polyvinylpyrrolidone modified strategy and facile liquid phase ball-milling treatment,the graphene nanosheets can be efficiently dispersed into the WPU substrate and tightly connected between each other via internal interactions.Benefiting from the relatively low defects and densified structure of graphene,the resultant G/WPU film yields a high electrical conductivity of 1,004.5 S/m,and a tensile strength of around 48.5 MPa.As a consequence,it achieves an average EMI shielding effectiveness of over 30 dB in the X-band with a thickness of merely 0.15 mm and the value is further enhanced to 73.4 dB at 0.9 mm with a low density of 1.4 g/cm^(3),offering over 99.99999%shielding of incident electromagnetic waves.More importantly,this G/WPU film also exhibits a high cross-plane thermal conductivity of about 1.13 W/(m·K).Thus,this work develops a high-performance EMI shielding material with both good capacity of heat transmission,but also provides a facile strategy for designing next-generation advanced,lightweight,flexible,and multifunction shielding materials. | Wang Yang Hengxuan Bai Bo Jiang Chaonan Wang Weimin Ye Zhengxuan Li Chong Xu Xiaobai Wang Yongfeng Li | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,11: | 1 |
