| 1 | Three-dimensional morphometric analysis for hepatectomy of centrally located hepatocellular carcinoma:A pilot study显示文摘AIM: To describe a three-dimensional model(3DM) to accurately reconstruct anatomic relationships of centrally located hepatocellular carcinomas(HCCs).METHODS: From March 2013 to July 2014, reconstructions and visual simulations of centrally located HCCs were performed in 39 patients using a 3D subject-based computed tomography(CT) model with customdeveloped software. CT images were used for the 3D reconstruction of Couinaud's pedicles and hepatic veins, and the calculation of corresponding tumor territories and hepatic segments was performed using Yorktal DMIT software. The respective volume, surgical margin, and simulated virtual resection of tumors were also estimated by this model preoperatively. All patients were treated surgically and the results were retrospectively assessed. Clinical characteristics, imaging data, procedure variables, pathologic features, and postoperative data were recorded and compared to determine the reliability of the model.RESULTS: 3D reconstruction allowed stereoscopic identification of the spatial relationships between physiologic and pathologic structures, and offered quantifiable liver resection proposals based on individualized liver anatomy. The predicted values were consistent with the actual values for tumor mass volume(82.4 ± 109.1 m L vs 84.1 ± 108.9 m L, P = 0.910), surgical margin(10.1 ± 6.2 mm vs 9.1 ± 5.9 mm, P = 0.488), and maximum tumor diameter(4.61 ± 2.16 cm vs 4.53 ± 2.14 cm, P = 0.871). In addition,the number and extent of portal venous ramifications, as well as their relation to hepatic veins, were visualized. Preoperative planning based on simulated resection facilitated complete resection of large tumors located in the confluence of major vessels. | 3 | On the mechanism and control for the ultra-low frequency oscillation in NY Power Grid with large-scale hydropower显示文摘The power grid with large proportion of hydropower may engage the ultra-low frequency oscillation (ULFO),which threatening the operation of system.To the NY Power Grid system,whose dimension is over thousands,this paper reveals the cause of ULFO with the phase portrait method,i.e.,lies in the saturation of the different limits of the governor system of the generators,in other words,the occurrence of limit cycle is due to the non-smooth bifurcation.And furthermore,it proposes two methods to suppress ULFO with the philosophy of destroying the condition of non-smooth bifurcation.In detail,first,the phenomenon of ULFO in NY Power Grid,the damping characteristics and the limits in the governor system of the hydropower units are presented.Second,based on the non-smooth bifurcation theory,the mathematical basis of the oscillation in the non-smooth system caused by the saturation of limits is introduced.And then,the non-oscillation and oscillation dynamic of the system corresponding to without/with limits in the governor system are analyzed.Furthermore,it discusses the influence of the saturation of single limit on the characteristics of ULFO with the phase portraits.Moreover,the phase portraits of the ULFO under different faults is analyzed,and it shows that the limiting saturation occurs with a large enough disturbance.Thus,the ULFO is resulting from the negative damping of generation and the saturation of multiple limits under a large enough disturbance.In addition,according to the above mechanism,two strategies to suppress the ULFO,i.e.,the governor parameters tuning and the fault strength relief are designed.The simulation shows the effectiveness of proposed strategies. | Ancheng XUE Jiawei WANG Chao ZHENG Joe H.CHOW Tianshu BI | 2019 | Control Theory and Technology2019,17,3: | 11 |
| 4 | On the Radiative Properties of Ice Clouds:Light Scattering, Remote Sensing,and Radiation Parameterization显示文摘Presented is a review of the radiative properties of ice clouds from three perspectives: light scattering simulations, remote sensing applications, and broadband radiation parameterizations appropriate for numerical models. On the subject of light scattering simulations, several classical computational approaches are reviewed, including the conventional geometric-optics method and its improved forms, the finite-difference time domain technique, the pseudo-spectral time domain technique, the discrete dipole approximation method, and the T-matrix method, with specific applications to the computation of the singlescattering properties of individual ice crystals. The strengths and weaknesses associated with each approach are discussed.With reference to remote sensing, operational retrieval algorithms are reviewed for retrieving cloud optical depth and effective particle size based on solar or thermal infrared(IR) bands. To illustrate the performance of the current solar- and IR-based retrievals, two case studies are presented based on spaceborne observations. The need for a more realistic ice cloud optical model to obtain spectrally consistent retrievals is demonstrated. Furthermore, to complement ice cloud property studies based on passive radiometric measurements, the advantage of incorporating lidar and/or polarimetric measurements is discussed.The performance of ice cloud models based on the use of different ice habits to represent ice particles is illustrated by comparing model results with satellite observations. A summary is provided of a number of parameterization schemes for ice cloud radiative properties that were developed for application to broadband radiative transfer submodels within general circulation models(GCMs). The availability of the single-scattering properties of complex ice habits has led to more accurate radiation parameterizations. | 5 | Comparison of screening strategies for Lynch syndrome in patients with newly diagnosed endometrial cancer:a prospective cohort study in China显示文摘Background: The prevalence of Lynch syndrome and screening strategies for this disorder in Chinese patients with endometrial cancer have seldom been investigated. Such data would be essential for the screening, prevention, genetic counseling, and treatment of Lynch syndrome. The purpose of this prospective study was to determine the accuracy of the mismatch repair (MMR) protein immunohistochemistry (IHC), microsatellite instability (MSI) test, and clinical diagnostic criteria in screening for Lynch syndrome-associated endometrial cancer (LS-EC) in a prospective Chinese cohort. Methods: All patients with newly diagnosed endometrial cancer (EC) were evaluated using clinical diagnostic criteria (Amsterdam II criteria and the revised Bethesda guidelines), MSI test, and IHC of MMR proteins in tumor tissues. For all patients, the screening results were compared with results of germline sequencing for pathogenic variants of MMR genes. Results: Between December 2017 and August 2018, a total of 111 unselected patients with newly diagnosed EC were enrolled. Six patients (5.4%) harbored a pathogenic germline mutation of MMR genes: 1 had a mutation in MutL homolog 1 (MLH1), 2 in MutS homolog 2 (MSH2), and 3 in MutS homolog 6 (MSH6). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) for identifying LS-EC were 33.3%, 88.6%, 14.3%, and 95.9%, for the clinical criteria, 66.7%, 75.0%, 14.3%, and 97.3% for IHC of MMR proteins, 100%, 89.9%, 33.3%, and 100% for MSI test, and 100%, 72.4%, 20.0% and 100% for combined IHC and MSI test, respectively. The combination of IHC and MSI test had higher sensitivity and PPV than the clinical criteria (p = 0.030). MSI test and IHC were highly concordant for LS-EC screening (73/77, 94.8%). | 6 | Extrinsic calibration of a laser displacement sensor in a non-contact coordinate measuring machine显示文摘In order to implement 3D scanning of those complicated parts such as blades in the aviation field,a non-contact optical measuring system is established in the paper,which integrates a laser displacement sensor,a probe head,the frame of a coordinate measuring machine(CMM),etc.As the output of the laser sensor directly obtained possesses the 1D length of the laser beam,it needs to determine the unit direction vector of the laser beam denoted as(l,m,n)by calibration so as to convert the 1D values into 3D coordinates of target points.Therefore,an extrinsic calibration method based on a standard sphere is proposed to accomplish this task in the paper.During the calibration procedure,the laser sensor moves along with the motion of the CMM and gathers the required data on the spherical surface.Then,both the output of the laser sensor and the grating readings of the CMM are substituted into the constraint equation of the spherical surface,in which an over-determined nonlinear equation group containing unknown parameters is established.For the purpose of solving the equation group,a method based on non-linear least squares optimization is put forward.Finally,the system after calibration is utilized to measure the diameter of a metallic sphere 10 times from different orientations to verify the calibration accuracy.In the experiment,the errors between the measured results and the true values are all smaller than 0.03 mm,which manifests the validity and practicality of the extrinsic calibration method presented in the paper. | Chao BI Jianguo FANG Kun LI Zhijun GUO | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2017,30,4: | 8 |

| 8 | Rh-incompatible hemolytic disease of the newborn in Hefei显示文摘BACKGROUND Anti-D antibody is not the common cause of Rh-isoimmunization in Chinese neonatal jaundice.Recent change in national population policy has followed by an increase in Rh-isoimmunization related hemolytic disease of the newborn(HDN).Unfortunately,regional status of Rh-HDN is unavailable.We hypothesize that Rh-HDN in our region is most commonly due to anti-E antibody.AIM To investigate the prevalence of hemolytic disease of the newborn due to Rhisoimmunization in Hefei City.METHODS Retrospective review of data obtained from Children’s Hospital of Anhui and Hefei Blood Center between January 2017 and June 2019.Status of minor blood group antibody was studied in the corresponding mothers.RESULTS Totally 4138 newborns with HDN admitted during the study period and 116(2.8%)received blood exchange transfusion(BET).Eighteen newborns(0.43%)with proven Rh-incompatible HDN were identified.All were not the first-born baby.Thirteen mothers were RhD(+)(72%)and five were RhD(-).The distribution of Rh-related antibodies in mothers was ten anti-E(55%),five anti-D(27%),and for one anti-C,anti-c,and anti-E/c(6%)each.Thirteen(72.2%)were qualified for BET,relative risk for BET was 28.9 as compared to other types of HDN,but only 10 received due to parenteral refusal.All(100%)RhD related HDN received BET which is not significantly different from RhE related HDN(81.8%).CONCLUSION As expected,all Rh-incompatible HDN newborns were not the first-born.Contrary to the Caucasian population,anti-D induced HDN is not the most common etiology.In our region,anti-E(11/18,61%)is the most common cause of Rh-HDN. | Shao-Hua Bi Liang-Liang Jiang Li-Ying Dai Hong Zheng Jian Zhang Li-Li Wang Chao Wang Qiao Jiang Yu Liu Yong-Li Zhang Juan Wang Chao Zhu Guang-Hui Liu Ru-Jeng Teng | 2019 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2019,7,20: | 7 |
| 9 | Simulation of multi-support depth-varying earthquake ground motions within heterogeneous onshore and offshore sites显示文摘This paper presents a novel approach to model and simulate the multi-support depth-varying seismic motions(MDSMs) within heterogeneous offshore and onshore sites.Based on 1 D wave propagation theory,the three-dimensional ground motion transfer functions on the surface or within an offshore or onshore site are derived by considering the effects of seawater and porous soils on the propagation of seismic P waves.Moreover,the depth-varying and spatial variation properties of seismic ground motions are considered in the ground motion simulation.Using the obtained transfer functions at any locations within a site,the offshore or onshore depth-varying seismic motions are stochastically simulated based on the spectral representation method(SRM).The traditional approaches for simulating spatially varying ground motions are improved and extended to generate MDSMs within multiple offshore and onshore sites.The simulation results show that the PSD functions and coherency losses of the generated MDSMs are compatible with respective target values,which fully validates the effectiveness of the proposed simulation method.The synthesized MDSMs can provide strong support for the precise seismic response prediction and performance-based design of both offshore and onshore large-span engineering structures. | Li Chao Li Hongnan Hao Hong Bi Kaiming Tian Li | 2018 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2018,17,3: | 6 |

| 11 | Gust load alleviation wind tunnel tests of a large-aspect-ratio flexible wing with piezoelectric control显示文摘An active control technique utilizing piezoelectric actuators to alleviate gust-response loads of a large-aspect-ratio flexible wing is investigated. Piezoelectric materials have been extensively used for active vibration control of engineering structures. In this paper, piezoelectric materials further attempt to suppress the vibration of the aeroelastic wing caused by gust. The motion equation of the flexible wing with piezoelectric patches is obtained by Hamilton's principle with the modal approach, and then numerical gust responses are analyzed, based on which a gust load alleviation(GLA) control system is proposed. The gust load alleviation system employs classic propor tional-integral-derivative(PID) controllers which treat piezoelectric patches as control actuators and acceleration as the feedback signal. By a numerical method, the control mechanism that piezoelectric actuators can be used to alleviate gust-response loads is also analyzed qualitatively. Furthermore, through low-speed wind tunnel tests, the effectiveness of the gust load alleviation active control technology is validated. The test results agree well with the numerical results. Test results show that at a certain frequency range, the control scheme can effectively alleviate the z and x wingtip accelerations and the root bending moment of the wing to a certain extent. | 13 | A Review of Comminution Age Method and Its Potential Application in the East China Sea to Constrain the Time Scale of Sediment Source-to-Sink Process显示文摘The East China Sea(ECS) is a river-dominated epicontinental sea, linking the Asian continent to the northwestern Pacific via the large rivers originating from Tibetan Plateau. The relevant huge influx of riverine detritus has developed unique sedimentary systems in the ECS during the Quaternary, offering ideal terrestrial archives for reconstructing Quaternary paleoenvironmental changes and studying land-sea interactions. Overall, two characteristic river systems dominate the sedimentary systems and sediment source to sink transport patterns in the ECS, represented by the Changjiang(Yangtze River) and Huanghe(Yellow River) for the large river system and Taiwan rivers for the small river system. Given this, the sediments derived from both river systems bear distinct features in terms of parent rock lithology, provenance weathering and sediment transport. Previous studies mostly focus on either the ‘source' discrimination or the ‘sink' records of the sedimentary system in the ECS, while the source to sink process linking the land and sea, in particular its time scale, has been poorly understood. Here we introduce a newly-developed dating technique, the ‘comminution age' method, which offers a quantitative constraint on the time scale of sediment transfer from its ultimate source to the final depositional sink. This novel method is of great significance for improving our understanding on the earth surface processes including tectonic-climate driven weathering, and sediment recycling in relation to landscape evolution and marine environmental changes. | 19 | Serum Calcium Level is Associated with Brachial-ankle Pulse Wave Velocity in Middle-aged and Elderly Chinese显示文摘Objective To study the relation between serum calcium level and elevated BaPWV in Chinese subjects.Methods The relation between serum calcium level and elevated BaPWV was studied in 9 615subjects.The mean value of left and right BaPWV was analyzed.BaPWV was defined as high when it was?1 752.5 cm/s(the upper quartile)either side.Results The BaPWV and its elevated percentage progressively increased across the quartiles of the serum calcium level(P<0.05).The prevalence of elevated BaPWV was significantly higher in subjects of the second,third and highest quartiles than in those of the lowest quartile(26.9%,28.4%,and 33.2%vs23.7%,P=0.0116,P=0.0004,and P<0.0001).Logistic regression analysis revealed that the risk of elevated BaPWV was 1.32-fold higher in subjects of the highest quartile than in those of the lowest quartile(OR=1.32,95%CI:1.08-1.60).Conclusion The elevated serum calcium level is related to an elevated BaPWV and a higher risk of arterial stiffness,independent of conventional risk factors,in middle-aged and elderly Chinese subjects. | DENG Xin Ru ZHANG Yin Fei WANG Tian Ge XU Bai Hui SUN Ji Chao ZHAO Lie Bin XU Min CHEN Yu Hong WANG Wei Qing BI Yu Fang LU Jie Li | 2014 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2014,27,8: | 2 |
