1Anesthesia with ciprofol in cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass:A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Ciprofol is a novel agent for intravenous general anesthesia.In February 2022,it was approved by the National Medical Products Administration for general anesthesia induction and maintenance.It has the advantages of fast onset,fast elimination,stable circulation,and few adverse reactions.However,the efficacy and safety of ciprofol in cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass have not been reported.Here we describe a case where ciprofol was successfully used for anesthesia in cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.CASE SUMMARY A 72-year-old man(height 176 cm;weight 70 kg)was diagnosed with coronary atherosclerotic cardiomyopathy requiring coronary artery bypass grafting and left ventricular aneurysmectomy.Ciprofol was administered for induction(0.4 mg/kg)and maintenance(0.6-1.0 mg/kg/h)of general anesthesia.During the entire operation,the bispectral index,hemodynamics,and blood oxygen saturation were maintained at normal levels.The patient recovered well after surgery,with no serious adverse events related to ciprofol.CONCLUSION Ciprofol is safe and effective for anesthesia in cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.Le Yu Evelyne Bischof Hui-Hong Lu 2023World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,1:4
2Development and optimization of thermal contrast amplification lateral flow immunoassays for ultrasensitive HIV p24 protein detection显示文摘Detection of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)p24 protein at a single pg/ml concentration in point-of-care(POC)settings is important because it can facilitate acute HIV infection diagnosis with a detection sensitivity approaching that of laboratory-based assays.However,the limit of detection(LOD)of lateral flow immunoassays(LFAs),the most prominent POC diagnostic platform,falls short of that of laboratory protein detection methods such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Here,we report the development and optimization of a thermal contrast amplification(TCA)LFA that will allow ultrasensitive detection of 8 pg/ml p24 protein spiked into human serum at POC,approaching the LOD of a laboratory test.To achieve this aim,we pursued several innovations as follows:(a)defining a new quantitative figure of merit for LFA design based on the specific to nonspecific binding ratio(BR);(b)using different sizes and shapes of gold nanoparticles(GNPs)in the systematic optimization of TCA LFA designs;and(c)exploring new laser wavelengths and power regimes for TCA LFA designs.First,we optimized the blocking buffer for the membrane and running buffer by quantitatively measuring the BR using a TCA reader.The TCA reader interprets the thermal signal(i.e.,temperature)of GNPs within the membrane when irradiated by a laser at the plasmon resonance wavelength of the particle.This process results in higher detection and quantitation of GNPs than in traditional visual detection(i.e.,color intensity).Further,we investigated the effect of laser power(30,100,200 mW),GNP size and shape(30 and 100 nm gold spheres,150 nm gold-silica shells),and laser wavelength(532,800 nm).Applying these innovations to a new TCA LFA design,we demonstrated that 100nm spheres with a 100 mW 532 nm laser provided the best performance(i.e.,LOD=8pg/ml).This LOD is significantly better than that of the current colorimetric LFA and is in the range of the laboratory-based p24 ELISA.In summary,this TCA LFA for p24 protein shows promise for detecting acute HIV infection in POC settings.Li Zhan Timothy Granade Yilin Liu Xierong Wei Ae Youngpairoj Vickie Sullivan Jeff Johnson John Bischof 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:3

6A review of phosphorus nutrition in irrigated cotton farming systems of Australia显示文摘Australian cotton production predominantly occurs on Vertisols.The average lint yield of cotton grown in Australia is 2260–2700 kg·hm^(−2),which is 2.5 to 3 times the world average.This high productivity per unit of land area requires efficient use of resources such as water and nutrients.However,high yields accelerate the export of nutrients such as phosphorus(P)in seed,depleting the soil reserves of P more than in other countries with lower cotton yields.Recent surveys of cotton industry indicate that P application rates should match seed P export(30~40 kg·hm−2),but historical depletion within subsoil is still evident and is continuing.Depletion of soil P is typically more pronounced in the subsoil than in the topsoil(0~20 cm)where P fertiliser is applied,as cotton roots rely on these layers as important sources of plant available water and available P.This mismatch between zones of P uptake and resupply may increase stratification of available P in the soil profile.Recent studies showed that cotton responded poorly to banded applications of fertiliser P,while dispersal of fertiliser throughout the plant beds was more successful.Researchers have also observed sporadic cotton responses to applied P fertiliser in soils where available P concentrations were well above the previously determined critical concentrations indicative of fertiliser P responses in Australia.To sustain highyielding cotton production in Australia,a greater understanding of cotton root acquisition of applied P,as well as a re-examination of critical soil P concentrations for each production region are required.NACHIMUTHU Gunasekhar SCHWENKE Graeme MERCER Clarence BISCHOF Callum HULME Pat BELL Michael 2022Journal of Cotton Research2022,5,1:2
