| 13 | Symptom Experience and Quality of Life in Colorectal Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy-A Secondary Publication显示文摘Objective:To evaluate symptom experience and quality of life(QoL)and to identify the predictors of QoL among colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted on 107 colorectal cancer patients at a university-affiliated hospital between June 1 and July 30,2021.Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Colorectal(FACT-C)and Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale-Short Form(MSAS-SF)were used to assess symptom experience and QoL of these patients.Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation,t-test,ANOVA,and hierarchical multiple regression.Results:The mean QoL score for colorectal cancer patients was 88.78±20.08.The most frequently experienced physical and psychological symptoms were numbness/tingling and worrying.Physical and psychological symptoms have a significant negative association with QoL.Perceived economic status was significantly associated with QoL in patients’general characteristics.The regression analyses showed that high psychological symptoms(β=-0.63,P<0.001),middle perceived economic status(β=-0.22,P=0.009),and low perceived economic status(β=-0.36,P<0.001)were statistically significant in predicting patients’low QoL.Conclusion:Symptom experience and QoL are essential variables that should be acknowledged when delivering health care to colorectal cancer patients.More attention to the reduction and comprehensive symptom management of psychological distress could improve QoL among colorectal cancer patients. | Ayoung Lee Jin-Hee Park | 2024 | Proceedings of Anticancer Research2024，8，1： | 0 |
| 14 | Compressive Biomechanics of the Reptilian Intervertebral Joint显示文摘This study compared the pre-sacral intervertebral joints of the American alligator(Alligator mississippiensis)with those from specimens of Varanus.These two taxa were chosen because they have similar number of pre-sacral vertebrae and similar body weights;however,Varanus can move bipedally and has diarthrotic intervertebral joints,whereas Alligator has intervertebral discs and cannot move bipedally.This study consisted of three objectives:(1)to document the anatomy of the intervertebral joint,(2)to quantify the compressive biomechanics of the intervertebral joints and explore which features contributed to compression resistance,and(3)to quantify the impact of compression on the intervertebral foramen and spinal nerves in these two taxa.The experimental results revealed that the diarthrotic intervertebral joints of Varanus were significantly(4x)stiffer than the intervertebral disc of Alligator,and that a significant component of this increased stiffness arose from the facet joints.Compressing the intervertebral joints of the two taxa caused a reduction in foraminal area,but the magnitude of this reduction was not significantly different.We hypothesize that the main factor preventing spinal nerve impingement in Varanus during gravitational compression is the relatively small size of the spinal ganglion/nerve relative to the foraminal area. | Kadi Fauble James A.dams Maura Gerdes Caroline VanSickle Bruce AYoung | 2020 | Journal of Zoological Research2020，2，4： | 0 |
| 15 | Surgical perspectives of symptomatic omphalomesenteric duct remnants: Differences between infancy and beyond显示文摘BACKGROUND The clinical manifestations of omphalomesenteric duct remnant(OMDR)can vary with the age at diagnosis,from asymptomatic incidental findings to symptoms related to gastrointestinal complications.The lifelong complication rates are reported as 4%-34%,and complications are more common in patients younger than 2 years of age.The authors attempted to identify different clinical features and management for the various pediatric age groups.AIM To find surgical perspectives for the pediatric age-related variants of OMDR and make recommendations for optimal management.METHODS The medical records of pediatric patients diagnosed with OMDR were reviewed retrospectively.Fifteen patients diagnosed based on incidental findings during other surgeries were excluded.The patients were divided into two groups based on age:<12 mo(infants)and>12 mo(beyond infancy).We analyzed the demographic characteristics,clinical manifestations,diagnostic tools,surgical procedures,and clinical outcomes of the patients and compared them for the age groups.Chi-squared and Fisher's exact tests were used for nominal scales and a Mann-Whitney test was used for ratio scales.RESULTS A total of 35 patients(7 infants,28 children beyond infancy)were finally included.In both groups,Meckel's diverticulum(MD)was the most common type of OMDR,while umbilical lesions were more common in the infant group(P=0.006).Hematochezia and abdominal pain were common in the beyond infancy group,while umbilical lesions were the most frequent symptoms in the infant group.Several diagnostic tools were used,but Meckel's scan was most useful in diagnosing OMDR in patients with painless rectal bleeding.Minimally invasive surgery was more commonly performed for children than for infants(P=0.016).Single-incision laparoscopic surgery(SILS)was performed for fifteen patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery.There were only three cases of postoperative complications,and all patients survived in good condition.CONCLUSION The clinical type of OMDR varies with age,umbilical lesions in infants,and MD beyond infancy.SILS is effective for managing children with MD regardless of age. | Ayoung Kang Soo-Hong Kim Yong-Hoon Cho Hae-Young Kim | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2021，9，36： | 0 |
