Abdominal applications of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging: Where do we stand?显示文摘Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is one of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences providing qualitative as well as quantitative information at a cellular level. It has been widely used for various applications in the central nervous system. Over the past decade, various extracranial applications of DWI have been increasingly explored, as it may detect changes even before signal alterations or morphological abnormalities become apparent on other pulse sequences. Initial results from abdominal MRI applications are promising, particularly in oncological settings and for the detection of abscesses. The purpose of this article is to describe the clinically relevant basic concepts of DWI, techniques to perform abdominal DWI, its analysis and applications in abdominal visceral MR imaging, in addition to a brief overview of whole body DWI MRI. | Ajaykumar C Morani Khaled M Elsayes Peter S Liu William J Weadock Janio Szklaruk Jonathan Russell Dillman Asra Khan Thomas L Chenevert Hero K Hussain | 2013 | World Journal of Radiology2013,5,3: | 12
Sources and Ecological Risks of Heavy Metals in Soils Under Different Land Uses in Bangladesh显示文摘Soil heavy metal pollution, influenced by both natural and anthropogenic factors, significantly reduces environmental quality. In this study, Cr, Ni, Cu, As, Cd, and Pb in eight different land-use soils from Patuakhali District in Bangladesh were assessed. Concentrations of Cr, Ni, Cu, As, Cd, and Pb in soils were 1-87, 5-271, 4-181, 0-80, 0.2-24.0, and 5-276 mg kg-1, respectively, measured using an inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer. The enrichment factor, pollution load index (PLI), and contamination factor (CJ) of metal i were used to assess the ecological risk posed by metals in soils. The PLI ranged from 0.78 to 2.66, indicating baseline levels to progressive deterioration of soil due to metal contamination. However, C;of Cd ranged from 1.8 to 12.0, which showed that the studied soils were strongly impacted by Cd. Considering the severity of the potential ecological risk of a single metal, the descending order was Cd > As > Pb > Cu > Ni > Cr. Soils under all land uses showed moderate to very high potential ecological risk. | Mohammad Saiful ISLAM Mohammad Kawser AHMED Mohammad Habibullah AL-MAMUN Shah Mohammad Asraful ISLAM | 2019 | Pedosphere2019,29,5: | 5
Malnutrition and liver disease in a developing country显示文摘Malnutrition is a highly prevalent and under recognized condition in developing countries of South Asia. The presence of malnutrition causes a severe impact on patients with liver cirrhosis. The etiology of cirrhosis differs in the South Asian region compared to the West, with hepatitis B and C still being the leading causes and the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease increasing over time.Comorbid malnutrition worsens outcomes for cirrhosis patients.Urgent attention to address malnutrition is needed to improve patient outcomes. The etiology and pathophysiology of malnutrition in liver diseases is multifactorial,as reduction in liver function affects both macronutrients and micronutrients.A need for nutritional status assessment for liver disease patients exists in all parts of the world. There are many widely studied tools in use to perform a thorough nutritional assessment,of which some tools are low cost and do not require extensive training. These tools can be studied and evaluated for use in the resource limited setting of a country like Pakistan.Treatment guidelines for proper nutrition maintenance in chronic liver disease exist for all parts of the world, but the knowledge and practice of nutritional counseling in Pakistan is poor, both amongst patients and physicians.Emphasis on assessment for nutritional status at the initial visit with recording of vital signs is needed.Simultaneously, treating physicians need to be made aware of the misconceptions surrounding nutritional restrictions in cirrhosis so that patient education is done correctly based on proper scientific evidence. | Asra tus Saleha Siddiqui Om Parkash Syeda Amrah Hashmi | 2021 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,30: | 3

In silico identification and characterization of common epitope-based peptide vaccine for Nipah and Hendra viruses显示文摘Objective: To explore a common B-and T-cell epitope-based vaccine that can elicit an immune response against encephalitis causing genus Henipaviruses, Hendra virus(He V) and Nipah virus(Ni V). Methods: Membrane proteins F, G and M of He V and Ni V were retrieved from the protein database and subjected to different bioinformatics tools to predict antigenic B-cell epitopes. Best B-cell epitopes were then analyzed to predict their T-cell antigenic potentiality. Antigenic B-and T-cell epitopes that shared maximum identity with He V and Ni V were selected. Stability of the selected epitopes was predicted. Finally, the selected epitopes were subjected to molecular docking simulation with HLA-DR to confirm their antigenic potentiality in silico. Results: One epitope from G proteins, one from M proteins and none from F proteins were selected based on their antigenic potentiality. The epitope from the G proteins was stable whereas that from M was unstable. The M-epitope was made stable by adding flanking dipeptides. The 15-mer G-epitope(VDPLRVQWRNNSVIS) showed at least 66% identity with all Ni V and He V G protein sequences, while the 15-mer M-epitope(GKLEFRRNNAIAFKG) with the dipeptide flanking residues showed 73% identity with all Ni V and He V M protein sequences available in the database. Molecular docking simulation with most frequent MHC class-II(MHC II) and class-I(MHC I) molecules showed that these epitopes could bind within HLA binding grooves to elicit an immune response. Conclusions: Data in our present study revealed the notion that the epitopes from G and M proteins might be the target for peptide-based subunit vaccine design against He V and Ni V. However, the biochemical analysis is necessary to experimentally validate the interaction of epitopes individually with the MHC molecules through elucidation of immunity induction. | Chayan Kumar Saha Mahbub Hasan Saddam Hossain Asraful Jahan Abul Kalam Azad | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2017,10,6: | 0
History, epidemiology, vaccine and transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19):a quick review显示文摘Coronavirus belonging to family Coronaviridae is a large group of viruses causing respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. The outbreak of 2019-novel coronavirus has created panic in the whole world after being transmitted from Wuhan,China in December 2019.A large number of people are affected throughout the world that forced a solitary situation in the affected areas confining common people to their homes to prevent its spread.Cellular receptors in humans for 2019-novel coronavirus are found to be same as for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus, the first human pandemic of 21st century,however,2019-novel coronavirus is highly contagious, virulent and mutable than the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus. The most attractive site for vaccine development against 2019-novel coronavirus is the spike glycoprotein which is crucial for receptor binding, membrane fusion via conformational changes, virus internalization, and host tissue tropism or spike inactivation through antibody induced destabilization.First outbreak was in December 2019,later on at the end of 2020,the mortality ratio decreased that created a sigh of temporary relief in the globe.Summer season was considered as one of the sources combating infection and preventing spread of virus. However, for the last few months, suddenly a huge outrage of new variants of coronavirus disease 2019 are capturing attention of the entire population of earth endangering lives of people irrespective of their ages and communities.Researchers must focus on the inventions and discoveries of either preventive or therapeutic medicines that precisely target the spike proteins that enable the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2’s entry into a host cell.In this article,we have highlighted various vaccines being approved for emergency use by Federal Investigating Agency to combat the disastrous effects of pandemic on humanity.Mutated variants have created an alarming situation for the health care workers, researchers and scientists to consider the possible mutants and their threat to humanity in the coming years.Further,we have tried to create awareness for developing a global internet community to promote a barrier-free connectivity among all corners of the world to facilitate humanity in case of a category 5 coronavirus disease-hurricane,a term used by researchers for future threats of pandemic. | Rabia Altaf Asra Iftikhar Rabia Haq Bushra Zahoor Muhammad Zaini Asmawi Mohamed Khadeer Ahamed Basheer | 2021 | Life Research2021,4,3: | 0
Malnutrition associated factors on children under 5 years old in Lhaviyani Atoll,Maldives显示文摘In this report,we aimed to analyze the prevalence of undernutrition and associated factors among children under 5 years of age in Lhaviyani Atoll,Maldives.A total of 800 children(under 5 years old) and their mothers were selected for this study.Data was collected by using a pretested questionnaire and anthropometric measurements were taken from the hospital record book.Chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression were used to find the association between nutritional status and determinants. The distribution of height for age and weight for age in surveyed children in Maldives was skewed to the left compared with the WHO standard. The prevalence of undernutrition based on underweight(10.75%),stunting(13.5%),and wasting(9.60%) was estimated to be 23.85% among children.Child age, gender and mother’s education were significantly associated with undernutrition(P<0.05).Our survey highlighted that better nutritional interventions are needed to improve child health in this region. | Mariyam Asra Xiaofang Lin Ijaz Ul Haq Asfia Banu Pasha Yingying Shao Rui Qin Manli Hu Ye Ding Zhixu Wang | 2020 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2020,34,4: | 0
