| 1 | Post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome:Mechanistic insights into chronic disturbances following enteric infection显示文摘Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)is a commonly encountered chronic functional gastrointestinal(GI)disorder.Approximately 10%of IBS patients can trace the onset of their symptoms to a previous a bout of infectious dysentery.The appearance of new IBS symptoms following an infectious event is defined as post-infectiousIBS.Indeed,with the World Health Organization estimating between 2 and 4 billion cases annually,infectious diarrheal disease represents an incredible international healthcare burden.Additionally,compounding evidence suggests many commonly encountered enteropathogens as unique triggers behind IBS symptom generation and underlying pathophysiological features.A growing body of work provides evidence supporting a role for pathogen-mediated modifications in the resident intestinal microbiota,epithelial barrier integrity,effector cell functions,and innate and adaptive immune features,all proposed physiological manifestations that can underlie GI abnormalities in IBS.Enteric pathogens must employ a vast array of machinery to evade host protective immune mechanisms,and illicit successful infections.Consequently,the impact of infectious events on host physiology can be multidimensional in terms of anatomical location,functional scope,and duration.This review offers a unique discussion of the mechanisms employed by many commonly encountered enteric pathogens that cause acute disease,but may also lead to the establishment of chronic GI dysfunction compatible with IBS. | Jennifer K Beatty Amol Bhargava Andre G Buret | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,14: | 12 |
| 2 | Bedside ultrasound in the diagnosis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most common liver disease in the United States.While the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases guidelines define NAFLD as hepatic steatosis detected either on histology or imaging without a secondary cause of abnormal hepatic fat accumulation,no imaging modality is recommended as standard of care for screening or diagnosis.Bedside ultrasound has been evaluated as a non-invasive method of diagnosing NAFLD with the presence of characteristic sonographic findings.Prior studies suggest characteristic sonographic findings for NAFLD include bright hepatic echoes,increased hepatorenal echogenicity,vascular blurring of portal or hepatic vein and subcutaneous tissue thickness.These sonographic characteristics have not been shown to aid bedside clinicians easily identify potential cases of NAFLD.While sonographic findings such as attenuation of image,diffuse echogenicity,uniform heterogeneous liver,thick subcutaneous depth,and enlarged liver filling of the entire field could be identifiedby clinicians from bedside ultrasound.The accessibility,ease of use,and low-side effect profile of ultrasound make bedside ultrasound an appealing imaging modality in the detection of hepatic steatosis.When used with appropriate clinical risk factors and steatosis involves greater than 33%of the liver,ultrasound can reliably diagnose NAFLD.Despite the ability of ultrasound in detecting moderate hepatic steatosis,it cannot replace liver biopsy in staging the degree of fibrosis.The purpose of this review is to examine the diagnostic accuracy,utility,and limitations of ultrasound in the diagnosis of NAFLD and its potential use by clinicians in routine practices. | Nancy Khov Amol Sharma Thomas R Riley | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,22: | 11 |

| 4 | Environment friendly hydrothermal synthesis of carbon–Co3O4 nanorods composite as an efficient catalyst for oxygen evolution reaction显示文摘The design of cost-effective, highly active catalysts for hydrogen energy production is a vital element in the societal pursuit of sustainable energy. Water electrolysis is one of the most convenient processes to produce high purity hydrogen. Cobalt-based catalysts are well-known electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction(OER). In this article, all these merits indicate that the present cobalt nanocomposite is a promising electrocatalyst for OER. C–Co_3O_4-nanorods catalyst with nanorod structure was synthesized by hydrothermal treatment of CoCl_2·6H_2O/dextrose/urea mixture at 180 °C for 18 h and then calcined at400 °C for 3.5 h. The role of dextrose percentage in solution to achieve the uniform coating of carbon on the surface of Co_3O_4-nanorods has been demonstrated. The prepared materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectrum(XPS), field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HR-TEM), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller instrument(BET). Due to its unique morphology, the C–Co_3O_4-nanorods catalyst exhibited better activity than Co_3O_4-microplates catalyst for OER in 1 M KOH aqueous solution. | 7 | Mine production index(MPI)-extension of OEE for bottleneck detection in mining显示文摘Although mining production depends on various equipments, significant amount of production loss can be attributed a specific equipment or fleet. Bottleneck is defined not only by production loss but also by our satisfaction from the equipment. The user satisfaction could be measured as machine effectiveness.Mining literatures on performance improvement and optimization of equipment operations assert importance of availability, utilization and production performance as key parameters. These three parameters are useful for evaluating effectiveness of equipment. Mine production index(MPI), which can represent the effect of these factors, has been applied for continuous operation in mining. MPI uses Fuzzy Delphi Analytical Hierarchy Process to determine importance of each three parameter for individual equipment. A case study in a Swedish open pit mine was done to evaluate the field application of MPI.The results reveal that crusher is the bottleneck equipment in studied mine.
