1Evaluation of the adsorption potential of titanium dioxide nanoparticles for arsenic removal显示文摘The adsorption potential of titanium dioxide(TiO2) nanoparticles for removing arsenic from drinking water was evaluated.Pure and iron-doped TiO2 particles are synthesized via sol-gel method.The synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles were then immobilized on ordinary sand for adsorption studies.Adsorption isotherms were conducted on the synthesized nanoparticles as well as the sand coated with TiO2 nanoparticles under varying conditions of air and light,namely,the air-sunlight(A-SL),air-light(AL),air-dark(AD) and nitrogen-dark(ND).X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis showed that the pure and iron-doped TiO2 nanoparticles were in 100% anatase crystalline phase with crystal sizes of 108 and 65 nm,respectively.Adsorption of arsenic on the three adsorbents was non-linear that could be described by the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models.Iron doping enhanced the adsorption capacity of TiO2 nanoparticles by arresting the grain growth and making it visible light responsive resulting in a higher affnity for arsenic.Similarly,the arsenic removal by adsorption on the sand coated with TiO2 nanoparticles was the highest among the three types of sand used.In all cases,As(V) was adsorbed more compared with As(Ⅲ).The solution pH appeared to be the most important factor in controlling the amount of arsenic adsorbed.NABI Deedar ASLAM Irfan QAZI Ishtiaq A 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,3:14
2Role of ZnO-CeO_2 Nanostructures as a Photo-catalyst and Chemi-sensor显示文摘ZnO-CeO2 nanostructures were synthesized by simple and effcient low temperature method. The structure and morphology of the ZnO-CeO2 nanostructures were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), which revealed elongated shaped CeO2 nanoparticles with diameters of 40-90 nm distributed on the surface of elongated ZnO nanostructures with diameters of 50-200 nm (edge-centre). Further the structure of the synthesized ZnO-CeO2 nanostructure was supported by Raman spectra and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). UV-vis absorption spectrum was used to confirm the optical properties of the CeO2 doped ZnO nanostructures. Photo-catalytic activity of CeO2 doped ZnO nanostructure was evaluated by degradation of acridine orange and methylene blue which degraded 84.55% and 48.65% in 170 min, respectively. ZnO-CeO2 nanostructures also showed good sensitivity (0.8331 μA·cm-2·(mol/l)-1) in short response time (10 s) by applying to chemical sensing using ethanol as a target compound by I-V technique. These degradation and chemical sensing properties of ZnO-CeO2 nanostructures are of great importance for the application of ZnO-CeO2 system as a photo-catalyst and chemical sensor.M. 3Review of magnetorheological (MR) fluids and its applications in vibration control显示文摘Magnetorheological (MR) fluids are now well established as one of the leading materials for use in controllable structures and systems. Commercial application of MR fluids in various fields, particularly in the vibration control, has grown rapidly over the past few years. In this paper, properties of magnetorheological (MR) fluids ,its applications in suspensions of vehicles, suspension of trains, high buildings cable-stayed bridges have been discussed. The scope of MR fluids in future, problems and some suggestions are also presented. 4Neoadjuvant treatment strategies for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma显示文摘Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)is the second most common primary liver malignancy and is increasing in incidence.Long-term outcomes are optimized when patients undergo margin-negative resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy.Unfortunately,a significant proportion of patients present with locally advanced,unresectable disease.Furthermore,recurrence rates are high even among patients who undergo surgical resection.The delivery of systemic and/or liver-directed therapies prior to surgery may increase the proportion of patients who are eligible for surgery and reduce recurrence rates by prioritizing early systemic therapy for this aggressive cancer.Nevertheless,the available evidence for neoadjuvant therapy in ICC is currently limited yet recent advances in liver directed therapies,chemotherapy regimens,and targeted therapies have generated increasing interest its role.In this article,we review the rationale for,current evidence for,and ongoing research efforts in the use of neoadjuvant therapy for ICC.Clifford Akateh Aslam M Ejaz Timothy Michael Pawlik Jordan M Cloyd 2020World Journal of Hepatology2020,12,10:8
5Surgery for colorectal liver metastases: The evolution of determining prognosis显示文摘Despite improvements in the multi-modality treatment of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM), survival after resection remains varied. Determining prognosis after surgical resection has historically been predicated on preoperative clinicopathological factors such as primary tumor stage, carcinoembryonic antigen levels, number of liver metastases, presence of extrahepatic disease, as well as other factors. While scoring systems have been developed by combining certain preoperative fac- tors, these have been inconsistent in accurately deter- mining prognosis. There has been increasing interest in the use of biologic and molecular markers to predict prognosis following CRLM. The role of markers such as KRAS, BRAF, p53, human telomerase reverse transcrip- tase, thymidylate synthase, Ki-67, and hypoxia inducible factor-1α and their correlation with accurately predict- ing survival after surgical resection have been sup- ported by several studies. 6Old vs new: Risk factors predicting early onset colorectal cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the second leading cause of all cancer related deaths in the United States and Europe.Although the incidence has been decreasing for individuals’≥50,it has been on the rise for individuals<50.AIM To identify potential risk factors for early-onset CRC.METHODS A population-based cohort analysis using a national database,Explorys,screened all patients with an active electronic medical record from January 2012 to December 2016 with a diagnosis of CRC.Subgroups were stratified based on age(25–49 years vs≥50 years).Demographics,comorbidities,and symptom profiles were recorded and compared between both age groups.Furthermore,the younger group was also compared with a control group consisting of individuals aged 25-49 years within the same timeframe without a diagnosis of CRC.Twentydata points for CRC related factors were analyzed to identify potential risk factors specific to early-onset CRC.RESULTS A total of 68860 patients were identified with CRC,of which 5710(8.3%)were younger than 50 years old,with 4140(73%)between 40-49 years of age.Multivariable analysis was reported using odds ratio(OR)with 95%CI and demonstrated that several factors were associated with an increased risk of CRC in the early-onset group versus the later-onset group.These factors included:African-American race(OR 1.18,95%CI:1.09-1.27,P<0.001),presenting symptoms of abdominal pain(OR 1.82,95%CI:1.72-1.92,P<0.001),rectal pain(OR 1.50,95%CI:1.28-1.77,P<0.001),altered bowel function(OR 1.12,95%CI:1.05-1.19,P=0.0005),having a family history of any cancer(OR 1.78,95%CI:1.67-1.90,P<0.001),gastrointestinal(GI)malignancy(OR 2.36,95%CI:2.18-2.55,P<0.001),polyps(OR 1.41,95%CI:1.08-1.20,P<0.001),and obesity(OR 1.14,95%CI:1.08-1.20,P<0.001).Comparing the early-onset cohort versus the control group,factors that were associated with an increased risk of CRC were:male gender(OR 1.34,95%CI:1.27-1.41),P<0.001),Caucasian(OR 1.48,95%CI:1.40-1.57,P<0.001)and African-American race(OR 1.25,95%CI:1.17-1.35,P<0.001),presenting symptoms of abdominal pain(OR 4.73,95%CI:4.49-4.98,P<0.001),rectal pain(OR 7.48,95%CI:6.42-8.72,P<0.001),altered bowel function(OR 5.51,95%CI:5.19-5.85,P<0.001),rectal bleeding(OR 9.83,95%CI:9.12-10.6,P<0.001),weight loss(OR 7.43,95%CI:6.77-8.15,P<0.001),having a family history of cancer(OR 11.66,95%CI:10.97-12.39,P<0.001),GI malignancy(OR 28.67,95%CI:26.64-30.86,P<0.001),polyps(OR 8.15,95%CI:6.31-10.52,P<0.001),tobacco use(OR 2.46,95%CI:2.33-2.59,P<0.001),alcohol use(OR 1.71,95%CI:1.62-1.80,P<0.001),presence of colitis(OR 4.10,95%CI:3.79-4.43,P<0.001),and obesity(OR 2.88,95%CI:2.74-3.04,P<0.001).CONCLUSION Pending further investigation,these potential risk factors should lower the threshold of suspicion for early CRC and potentially be used to optimize guidelines for early screening.Aslam R Syed Payal Thakkar Zachary D Horne Heitham Abdul-Baki Gursimran Kochhar Katie Farah Shyam Thakkar 2019World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2019,11,11:6

8Endoscopic resolution and recurrence of gastric antral vascular ectasia after serial treatment with argon plasma coagulation显示文摘AIM To evaluate long-term endoscopic resolution and recurrence rate of gastric antral vascular ectasia(GAVE) after argon plasma coagulation(APC) treatment.METHODS This was an IRB-approved retrospective single center study that included patients endoscopically treated for GAVE between 1/1/2008 to 12/31/2014. The primary and secondary end points of the study were rate of endoscopic resolution of GAVE after APC treatment and recurrence rate of GAVE after endoscopic resolution, respectively. Endoscopic resolution of GAVE was defined as no endoscopic evidence of GAVE after treatment with APC. Recurrence of GAVE was defined as endoscopic reappearance of GAVE after prior resolution.RESULTS Twenty patients met the study criteria. Median age(range) of the patients was 59.5 years(42-74 years). GAVE was associated with underlying cirrhosis in 16(80%) patients. Indications for initial esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD) included hematemesis and/or melena(9/20, 45%), iron deficiency anemia(6/20, 30%), screening or surveillance of varices(4/20, 20%), and occult gastrointestinal bleeding(1/20, 5%). The patients were treated with a total of 55 APC sessions(range 1-7 sessions). Successful endoscopic resolution of GAVE wasachieved in 8 out of 20 patients(40%). There was no correlation between number of treatment sessions and GAVE treatment success(P = NS). Recurrence of GAVE was noted on a subsequent EGD in 2 out of 8 patients(25%) with prior endoscopic resolution of GAVE. Median follow-up period for the study population was 627 d(range 63-1953 d).CONCLUSION Endoscopic resolution rate of GAVE was low(40%) with a 25% recurrence rate after treatment with APC. METHODS: Eight of 70 patients presenting in tertiary care centre of North India with massive pulmonary embolism within 4 years had subacute presentation (symptom onset more than 2 wk). These patients were subjected to pulmonary angiography with intention to treat basis via mechanical breakdown and intra lesional thrombolysis. Mechanical breakdown of embolus was accomplished with 5-F multipurpose catheter to reestablish flow, followed by intralesional infusion of urokinase (4400 IU/kg over 10 min followed by 4400 IU/kg per hour over 24 h). RESULTS: Eight patients, mean age 47.77±12.20 years presented with subacute pulmonary embolism (mean duration of symptoms 2.4 wk). At presentation, mean heart rate, shock index, miller score and mean pulmonary pressures were 101.5±15.2/min, 0.995±0.156, 23.87±3.76 and 37.62±6.67 mmHg which reduced to 91.5±12.2/min (P=0.0325), 0.789±0.139 (P=0.0019), 5.87±1.73 (P=0.0000004) and 27.75±8.66 mmHg (P=0.0003) post procedurally. Mean BP improved from 80.00±3.09 mmHg to 90.58±9.13 mmHg (P=0.0100) post procedurally. Minor complications in the form of local hematoma-minor hematoma in 1 (12.5%), and pseudoaneurysm (due to femoral artery puncture) in 1 (12.5 %) patient were seen. At 30 d and 6 mo follow up survival rate was 100% and all the patients were asymptomatic and in New York Heart Association class 1. 10不同葫芦科作物中瓜氨酸含量的比较显示文摘为了解瓜氨酸在不同葫芦科作物中的含量差异,以9种葫芦科作物为研究对象,分别测定了其果实、老叶、幼叶、根、茎中的瓜氨酸含量。结果表明,比较9种葫芦科作物的所有组织中的瓜氨酸含量,发现西瓜(Citrullus lanatus)果实中的瓜氨酸含量(w,后同)最高,可以达到1.40 g·kg^-1,其次是丝瓜(Luffa aegyptiaca)老叶中的瓜氨酸含量,为0.85 g·kg^-1,再次是苦瓜(Momordica charantia)老叶中的瓜氨酸含量,为0.66 g·kg^-1。比较不同葫芦科作物同一组织间瓜氨酸含量发现,不同作物果实中,西瓜的瓜氨酸含量最高,为1.40 g·kg^-1;茎中瓠瓜(Lagenaria siceraria)的瓜氨酸含量最高,为0.39 g·kg^-1;根中苦瓜的瓜氨酸含量最高,为0.43 g·kg^-1,幼叶中苦瓜的瓜氨酸含量最高,为0.47 g·kg^-1,而在老叶中丝瓜的瓜氨酸含量较高,为0.85 g·kg^-1。综上所述,葫芦科作物不仅在果实中含有瓜氨酸,其他组织也是潜在的瓜氨酸来源。ALI Aslam 王伟伟 何楠 路绪强 赵胜杰 朱红菊 刘文革 2020中国瓜菜2020,33,6:4
11Elemental composition of rice using calibration free laser induced breakdown spectroscopy显示文摘In this paper, we apply laser induce breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to determine the elemental composition of different parts(root, stem and seed) of the rice plant and determine their weighted concentration using calibration free laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (CF-LIBS) technique. Ca, Fe and K are identified as major elements, while C, Ti, Mg, Si, Li, Ba, Sr, Cr, Na and Al as minor elements. We also detect the H-alpha line of hydrogen in the spectrum and determine the electron number density. The electron number density and its behavior as a function of laser energy, laser wavelength and the detector position are investigated. 14小麦秸秆发酵产生的真菌Pleurotus ostreatus IBL-02锰过氧化物酶的溶胶-凝胶固定化及其催化污水脱色(英文)显示文摘Solid state bio-processing of wheat straw was carried out through an indigenous fungal strain Pleurotus ostreatus IBL-02 under pre-optimized fermentation conditions. The maximum activity, 692±12 U/mL, of the industrially important manganese peroxidase (MnP) enzyme was recorded after five days of still culture incubation. The crude MnP was 2.1-fold purified with a specific activity of 860 U/mg after purification on a Sephadex-G-100 gel column. On native and SDS-PAGE electrophoresis gels, the purified MnP fraction was a single homogenous band of 45 kDa. An active fraction of MnP was immobilized using hydrophobic sol-gel entrapment comprising tetramethoxysilane (T) and propyltrimethoxysilane (P) at different T:P molar ratios. Characterization revealed that after 24 h incubation at varying pH and temperatures, the MnP fraction immobilized at a T:P ratio of 1:2 in the sol-gel retained 82% and 75% of its original activity at pH4 and 70 ℃, respectively. The optimally active fraction at a 1:2 T:P ratio was tested against MnSO4 as a substrate to determine the kinetic catalytic constants KM and Vmax . To explore the industrial applicability of P. ostreatus IBL-02 MnP, both the free and immobilized MnP were used for the decolorization of four different textile industrial effluents. A maximum of 100% decolorization was achieved for the different textile effluents within the shortest time period. A lower KM , higher Vmax , hyper-activation, and enhanced acidic and thermal resistance up to 70 ℃ were the novel catalytic features of the sol-gel immobilized MnP, suggesting that it may be a potential candidate for biotechnological applications particularly for textile bioremediation purposes.Muhammad Asgher Bazgha Aslam Hafiz Muhammad Nasir Iqbal 2013催化学报2013,34,9:4
15In vitro antioxidant,cytotoxic,thrombolytic activities and phytochemical evaluation of methanol extract of the A.philippense L.leaves显示文摘Objective:To study the leaves of Adiantum philippense L.for their antioxidant,cytotoxicity and thrombolytic activities and to perform phytochemical evaluation.Methods:In-vitro antioxidant activity of extract was studied using DPPH radical scavenging,reducing power,total phenol and total flavonoid content determination assays.The cytotoxic activity was determined using brine shrimp lethality bioassay,thrombolytic activity by clot disruption and phytochemical potential by qualitative analysis.Results:The antioxidant activity of the extracts was found promising.The reducing power of this crude extract increase with the increase of concentration;IC_(50)values of DPPH scavenging activity was(140.00±0.86)μg/mL as compared to ascorbic acid[IC_(50)(130.00±0.76)μg/mL];Total phenol and total flavonoids content were(148.26±0.24)mg/mL and(163.06±0.56)mg/mL respecnvely.In cytotoxicity assay the LC_(50)values of the sample was(106.41±0.78)μg/mL where as for standard vincristin sulphate was(08.50±0.24)μg/mL as a positive control and the extract shows(12.8611.02)%clot lytic whereas standard streptokinase shows(30.86+0.44%clot lytic activity in thrombolytic assay.The phytochemical evaluation indicates the presence of chemical constituents including carbohydrates,alkaloids,saponins,glycosides,flavonoids.Conclusions:This study shows that the methanol extract of leaves of Adiantum philippense L.has bioactivitv but further compound isolation is necessary to confirm the activities of individual compounds.Mohammad Sekendar Ali Mohammad Ruhul Amin Chowdhury Mohammad Imtiaz Kamal Mohammad Aslam Hossain 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,6:3
16Design of a hybrid magnetomotive force electromechanical valve actuator显示文摘We propose a novel axis-symmetric modified hybrid permanent magnet(PM)/electromagnet(EM) magnetomotive force actuator for a variable valve timing camless engine. The design provides a large magnetic force with low energy consumption, low coil inductance, PM demagnetization isolation, and improved transient response. Simulation and experimental results confirm forces of about 200 N(in the presence of coil current) at the equilibrium position and 500 N(in the absence of coil current) at the armature seat. We compared our proposed design with a double solenoid valve actuator(DSVA). 18A Robust Zero-Watermarking Based on SIFT-DCT for Medical Images in the Encrypted Domain显示文摘Remote medical diagnosis can be realized by using the Internet,but when transmitting medical images of patients through the Internet,personal information of patients may be leaked.Aim at the security of medical information system and the protection of medical images,a novel robust zero-watermarking based on SIFT-DCT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform-Discrete Cosine Transform)for medical images in the encrypted domain is proposed.Firstly,the original medical image is encrypted in transform domain based on Logistic chaotic sequence to enhance the concealment of original medical images.Then,the SIFT-DCT is used to extract the feature sequences of encrypted medical images.Next,zero-watermarking technology is used to ensure that the region of interest of medical images are not changed.Finally,the robust of the algorithm is evaluated by the correlation coefficient between the original watermark and the attacked watermark.A series of attack experiments are carried out on this method,and the results show that the algorithm is not only secure,but also robust to both traditional and geometric attacks,especially in clipping attacks.Jialing Liu Jingbing Li Yenwei Chen Xiangxi Zou Jieren Cheng Yanlin Liu Uzair Aslam Bhatti 2019Computers, Materials & Continua2019,,7:3
19Structural and optical properties of thermally reduced graphene oxide for energy devices显示文摘Natural intercalation of the graphite oxide, obtained as a product of Hummer's method, via ultra-sonication of water dispersed graphite oxide has been carried out to obtain graphene oxide(GO) and thermally reduced graphene oxide(RGO).Here we report the effect of metallic nitrate on the oxidation properties of graphite and then formation of metallic oxide(MO) composites with GO and RGO for the first time. We observed a change in the efficiency of the oxidation process as we replaced the conventionally used sodium nitrate with that of nickel nitrate Ni(NO_3)_2, cadmium nitrate Cd(NO_3)_2,and zinc nitrate Zn(NO_3)_2. The structural properties were investigated by x-ray diffraction and observed the successful formation of composite of MO–GO and MO–RGO(M = Zn, Cd, Ni). We sought to study the effect on the oxidation process through optical characterization via UV-Vis spectroscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy.Moreover, Thermo Gravimetric Analysis(TGA) was carried out to confirm > 90% weight loss in each process thus proving the reliability of the oxidation cycles. We have found that the nature of the oxidation process of graphite powder and its optical and electrochemical characteristics can be tuned by replacing the sodium nitrate(NaNO_3) by other metallic nitrates as Cd(NO_3)_2, Ni(NO_3)_2, and Zn(NO_3)_2. 20An Investigation of Landslide Susceptibility Using Logistic Regression and Statistical Index Methods in Dailekh District, Nepal显示文摘Landslide distribution and susceptibility mapping are the fundamental steps for landslide-related hazard and disaster risk management activities, especially in the Himalaya region which has resulted in a great deal of death and damage to property. To better understand the landslide condition in the Nepal Himalaya, we carried out an investigation on the landslide distribution and susceptibility using the landslide inventory data and 12 different contributing factors in the Dailekh district, Western Nepal. Based on the evaluation of the frequency distribution of the landslide, the relationship between the landslide and the various contributing factors was determined.Then, the landslide susceptibility was calculated using logistic regression and statistical index methods along with different topographic(slope, aspect, relative relief, plan curvature, altitude, topographic wetness index) and non-topographic factors(distance from river, normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI), distance from road, precipitation, land use and land cover, and geology), and 470(70%) of total 658 landslides. The receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis using 198(30%) of total landslides showed that the prediction curve rates(area under the curve, AUC) values for two methods(logistic regression and statistical index) were 0.826, and 0.823with success rates of 0.793, and 0.811, respectively. The values of R-Index for the logistic regression and statistical index methods were83.66 and 88.54, respectively, consisting of high susceptible hazard classes. In general, this research concluded that the cohesive and coherent natural interplay of topographic and non-topographic factors strongly affects landslide occurrence, distribution, and susceptibility condition in the Nepal Himalaya region.
