Effect of Deformation Temperature on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AZ31 Mg Alloy Processed by Differential-Speed Rolling显示文摘A differential-speed rolling(DSR) was applied to AZ31 magnesium alloy sample at different rolling temperatures of 473,523,573,and 623 K with 1-pass and 2-pass operations. The microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of the deformed samples were investigated. The rolling temperature was found to be an important parameter affecting the microstructural development. After DSR at 473 K,the microstructure was more homogeneous than that obtained after deformation by equal-speed rolling(ESR).The fully recrystallized microstructures were generated after DSR at 573 and 623 K.As to mechanical properties, the yield strength(YS) and ultimate tensile strength(UTS) decreased monotonously with increasing rolling temperature. In contrast, the elongation of the DSR-deformed samples was improved as the rolling temperature increased. The strain hardening exponent(n) calculated by Hollomon equation increased with increasing the rolling temperature, which would explain an increase in the uniform elongation.Mosab Kaseem Bong Kwon Chung Hae Woong Yang Kotiba Hamad Young Gun Ko 2015Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,5:19

New insights into the effect of Tris-HCl and Tris on corrosion of magnesium alloy in presence of bicarbonate, sulfate, hydrogen phosphate and dihydrogen phosphate ions显示文摘In vitro degradation is an important approach to screening appropriate biomedical magnesium(Mg) alloys at low cost. However, corrosion products deposited on Mg alloys exert a critical impact on corrosion resistance. There are no acceptable criteria on the evaluation on degradation rate of Mg alloys. Understanding the degradation behavior of Mg alloys in presence of Tris buffer is necessary. An investigation was made to compare the influence of Tris-HCl and Tris on the corrosion behavior of Mg alloy AZ31 in the presence of various anions of simulated body fluids via hydrogen evolution, p H value and electrochemical tests. The results demonstrated that the Tris-HCl buffer resulted in general corrosion due to the inhibition of the formation of corrosion products and thus increased the corrosion rate of the AZ31 alloy. Whereas Tris gave rise to pitting corrosion or general corrosion due to the fact that the hydrolysis of the amino-group of Tris led to an increase in solution p H value, and promoted the formation of corrosion products and thus a significant reduction in corrosion rate. In addition, the corrosion mechanisms in the presence of Tris-HCl and Tris were proposed. Tris-HCl as a buffer prevented the formation of precipitates of HCO_3^-, SO_4^(2-),HPO_4^(2-) and H_2PO_4^- ions during the corrosion of the AZ31 alloy due to its lower buffering p H value(x.x).Thus, both the hydrogen evolution rate and corrosion current density of the alloy were approximately one order of magnitude higher in presence of Tris-HCl than Tris and Tris-free saline solutions.Lan-Yue Cui Yan Hu Rong-Chang Zeng Yong-Xin Yang Dan-Dan Sun Shuo-Qi Li Fen Zhang En-Hou Han 2017Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,9:12
Corrosion resistance of nanostructured magnesium hydroxide coating on magnesium alloy AZ31: influence of EDTA显示文摘A hexagonal nanosheet Mg(OH)2 coating was prepared through a one-step hydrothermal method using LiOH solution as mineralizer and then modified by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA) to minimize the rapid corrosion of AZ31 Mg alloy. The performance of the coating was evaluated using electrochemical technique, hydrogen evolution measurements, nanoscratch test,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray diffraction(XRD) patterns and field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM).The results suggested that the corrosion rate of bare AZ31 Mg alloys was significantly reduced by one and two orders of magnitude through the protection from Mg(OH)2 coating and modification with EDTA(i.e., EDTA-Mg(OH)2 coating), respectively.FESEM micrographs indicated that the modification in EDTA elicits to the formation of an EDTA-Mg(OH)2 composite with a thickness as twice as that of as-prepared Mg(OH)2 coating.Nanoscratch tests revealed strong adhesion between the composite or Mg(OH)2 coating and the substrate. The study of formation and corrosion mechanisms of the coatings manifested that Mg(OH)2 was first formed near the intermetallic compound AlMn particles and gradually covered the entire surface, wherein the AlMn particles played an important role in the coating growth process. And it also proved that EDTA accelerated the formation of Mg(OH)2.Xiao-Li Fan Yuan-Fang Huo Chang-Yang Li M.Bobby Kannan Xiao-Bo Chen Shao-Kang Guan Rong-Chang Zeng Quan-Li Ma 2019Rare Metals2019,38,6:11
Effect of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)addition on strength and ductility of magnesium-titanium alloys显示文摘Effect of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)addition on mechanical properties of magnesium–10wt%Titanium(Mg–10Ti)alloy is investigated in current work. The Mg-(10Ti+0.18GNPs)composite was synthesized using the semi powder metallurgy method followed by hot extrusion.Microstructural characterization results revealed the uniform distribution of reinforcement(Ti+GNPs)particles in the matrix, therefore(Ti+GNPs)particles act as an effective reinforcing filler to prevent the deformation.Room temperature tensile results showed that the addition of Ti+GNPs to monolithic Mg lead to increase in 0.2%yield strength(0.2%YS),ultimate tensile strength(UTS),and failure strain.Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy(EDS)and X-Ray Diffraction(XRD)were used to investigate the surface morphology, elemental dispersion and phase analysis, respectively.Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Aitao Tang Yun Lu Muhammad Asif Shahid Hussain Jia She Jun Gou Jianjun Mao 2013Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2013,1,3:10
In Situ Growth Process of Mg-Al Hydrotalcite Conversion Film on AZ31 Mg Alloy显示文摘In this study,an environment-friendly hydrotalcite film has been deposited on AZ31 Mg alloy by a twostep technique. To improve conversion film technique and control film properties, batch studies have been carried out to address various process parameters such as immersion time,pH value, and temperature of the treatment solution. The morphologies and chemical composition were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS).The corrosion resistance of the samples with the various final films was then further compared by polarization curves. It can be concluded from the results that,at low value of pH,temperature,or long deposition time, the precursor film is mainly composed of a cracked layer. The transformation of hydrotalcite film is largely influenced by the pH value. There are optimum values of pH,temperature of the coating bath and immersion time for the film formation process to achieve the best quality and corrosion resistance of the hydrotalcite film. The optimum process is as follows:the sample is first immersed in the pretreatment solution with a pH value of about 8 at a temperature of 60 ℃ for 30 min to form a precursor film and then this precursor film is immersed into the post treatment solution with a pH of 10.5 at 80 ℃ for 1.5 h to obtain the Mg—Al hydrotalcite conversion film.Jun Chen Yingwei Song Dayong Shan En-Hou Han 2015Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,4:10
Superplastic behavior of an ultrafine-grained Mg-13Zn-1.55Y alloy with a high volume fraction of icosahedral phases prepared by high-ratio differential speed rolling显示文摘An ultrafine-grained(UFG) Mg-13Zn-1.55 Y alloy(ZW132) with a high volume fraction(7.4%) of icosahedral phase(I-phase, Mg_3Zn_6Y) particles was prepared by applying high-ratio differential speed rolling(HRDSR) on the cast microstructure following homogenization. The alloy exhibited excellent superplasticity at low temperatures(tensile elongations of 455% and 1021% 473 K-10^(-3)s^(-1) and 523 K-10^(-3)s^(-1),respectively). Compared with UFG Mg-9.25Zn-1.66 Y alloy(ZW92) with a lower volume fraction of I-phase particles(4.1%), which was prepared using the same processing routes, the UFG ZW132 alloy exhibited a higher thermal stability of grain size. Rapid grain coarsening, however, occurred at temperatures beyond523 K, leading to a loss of superplasticity. The high-temperature deformation behavior of the HRDSRprocessed ZW132 alloy could be well described assuming that the mechanisms of grain boundary sliding and dislocation climb creep competed with each other and considering that the grain-size was largely increased by accelerated grain growth at the temperatures beyond 523 K.T.Y.Kwak W.J.Kim 2017Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,9:9

Construction of TiO2/silane nanofilm on AZ31 magnesium alloy for controlled degradability and enhanced biocompatibility显示文摘A TiO2 nanofilm was prepared on the surface of AZ31 magnesium alloy with controllable thickness through atomic layer deposition(ALD) technique, which can adjust the corrosion behaviors of AZ31 Mg alloy.Compared with the untreated Mg alloys, corrosion current densities(icorr)can decline by 58% in the 200-cycles TiO2-covered Mg alloy and further decline by up to 74% with the thickness of nanofilm up to 63 nm(400 cycles). The subsequent modification with a cross-linked conversion layer of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APTES) by a dipping method can produce a compact silane coating on TiO2 nanofilm, which can seal pinholes of TiO2 nanofilm and serve as a barrier to further adjust the corrosion behavior of the substrate. The icorrcan decline about two orders of magnitude in the TiO2/silane composite coating.Making the adjustable corrosion rate come true, which can be attributed to the precise control on the thickness of metal oxide nanofilm and additional protection from the compact silane coating. In vitro study discloses that the TiO2/silane hybrid coating shows higher expression of alkaline phosphatase(ALP)and can promote cellular adhesion and proliferation with better cytocompatibility than untreated Mg alloy.Lei Huang Kun Su Yu-Feng Zheng Kelvin Wai-Kwok Yeung Xiang-Mei Liu 2019Rare Metals2019,38,6:9

Corrosion resistance of Mg(OH)2/Mg-Al-layered double hydroxide coatings on magnesium alloy AZ31:influence of hydrolysis degree of silane显示文摘Mg(OH)2/Mg-Al-layered double hydroxide (LDH) coatings were modified with methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) on magnesium alloys. Effect of hydrolysis degree of silane solution on coating formation was investigated. Chemical compositions and surface morphologies of the coatings were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and field-emission scanning electronic microscopy (FESEM). Results indicated that the composite coatings consisted of polymethyltrimethoxysilane (PMTMS), LDH and Mg(OH)2. Electrochemical and hydrogen evolution measurements revealed that the composite coatings possessed good corrosion resistance, especially the ones prepared in a high hydrolysis degree of silane. The optimum corrosion resistance of the composite coati ng was LDH/PMTMS-3 coating, which had the lowest value of corrosion current density (5.537×10^-9 A·cm^-2) and a dense surface.Plausible mechanism for coating formation and corrosion process of MTMS-modified Mg(OH)2/Mg-Al-LDH coatings were discussed.Qing-Song Yao Zhong-Chao Li Zai-Meng Qiu Fen Zhang Xiao-Bo Chen Dong-Chu Chen Shao-Kang Guan Rong-Chang Zeng 2019Rare Metals2019,38,7:9
Preparation and Performance of Rare Earths Chemical Conversion Film on Magnesium Alloy显示文摘Golden yellow cerium conversion film was obtained on magnesium alloys surface by immersion method and the preparation parameters were established. The influence of different process parameters on the surface morphology and performance of the conversion film were analyzed by means of SEM and electrochemical method. Formation dynamics about cerium conversion film on magnesium alloy in solution containing cerium salt and the anti-corrosion behavior of the conversion film in 3.5% NaCl solution were studied by electrochemical method respectively. The results shows that the conversion film is more compact at room temperature when concentration of cerium sulfate is 10 g·L-1 in the solution; the open circuit potential of the magnesium sample moves up to positive direction about 100 mV, the surface of conversion film becomes even and lustrous, and the adhesion intensity of conversion film increases when adding aluminum nitrate into the solution containing cerium salt. The pH value of the solution and immersion time of the sample in the solution also affect the surface morphology and anti-corrosion property of the conversion film. After covered by rare earths conversion film, the anti-corrosion property of magnesium alloy is obviously improved. Rare earth conversion film has self-repairing capability in corrosion medium.于升学 吕巧艳 韩婧 张占伟 张倩云 2006Journal of Rare Earths2006,24,z2:9
De-twinning and Texture Change in an Extruded AM30 Magnesium Alloy during Compression along Normal Direction显示文摘Twinning and de-twinning are the salient deformation mechanisms in hexagonal close-packed(hcp)metals. The aim of this study was to examine and quantify the de-twinning process involving a reversible motion of twin boundaries in an extruded AM30 magnesium alloy after re-compression along the normal direction(ND) of pre-compressed samples along the extrusion direction(ED). {1012} extension twins were first introduced at a compressive strain of 3.7% along the ED. The subsequent compressive deformation along the ND induced a gradual shrinkage of twins with increasing cumulative true strain, and the complete de-twinning occurred at a strain of ~7.7%. The twin width decreased linearly with increasing true strain. Texture measurements verified the rotation of c-axes of hcp unit cells towards the anti-compression direction due to {1012} extension twinning after compression along the ED, and a gradual return of c-axes to the initial orientation due to twin shrinking or de-twinning during the following compression along the ND. The {1012} twinning corresponded to the formation of new texture components C{1210}<0001> and D{0110}<0001> and a decrease in the initial texture components A{0001}<2110> and B{0001}<1010>, while the twin shrinking or de-twinning was characterized by a gradual vanishing of components C{1210}<0001> and D{0110}<0001> and an increase in the components A{0001}<2110> and B{0001}<1010>.D.Sarker J.Friedman D.L.Chen 2015Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,3:8
Influence of Voltage on the Corrosion and Wear Resistance of MicroArc Oxidation Coating on Mg-8Li-2Ca Alloy显示文摘Calcium phosphate(CaP) coatings were prepared on Mg–8Li–2Ca magnesium alloy by micro-arc oxidation(MAO) in an alkaline Na_3PO_4–Ca[C_3H_7O_6P] base solution at the different applied voltages. Scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction were employed to characterize the microstructure and phase composition of the coatings, respectively. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was assessed by potential dynamic polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and hydrogen evolution experiment in simulated body fluids solution. The friction and wear properties were evaluated by friction and wear testing machine. The results demonstrate that the coating surface is porous and mainly composed of MgO, Ca_5(PO_4)_3(OH) and CaH_2P_2O_5. With the increase in voltage, the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the MAO coating are both enhanced. The corrosion current density of the MAO coating decreases about two orders of the magnitude compared to the substrate. Additionally, wear and corrosion mechanisms are discussed.Bing-Yu Qian Wei Miao Min Qiu Fan Gao Dong-Hui Hu Jian-Feng Sun Rui-Zhi Wu Boris Krit Sergey Betsofen 2019Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2019,32,2:8
Multi-objective optimization of process parametersduring low-pressure die casting of AZ91Dmagnesium alloy wheel castings显示文摘Multi-objective optimization has been increasingly applied in engineering where optimal decisions need to be made in the presence of trade-offs between two or more objectives. Minimizing the volume of shrinkage porosity, while reducing the secondary dendritic arm spacing of a wheel casting during low-pressure die casting(LPDC) process, was taken as an example of such problem. A commercial simulation software Pro CASTTM was applied to simulate the filling and solidification processes. Additionally, a program for integrating the optimization algorithm with numerical simulation was developed based on SiPESC. By setting pouring temperature and filling pressure as design variables, shrinkage porosity and secondary dendritic arm spacing as objective variables, the multi-objective optimization of minimum volume of shrinkage porosity and secondary dendritic arm spacing was achieved. The optimal combination of AZ91 D wheel casting was: pouring temperature 689 °C and filling pressure 6.5 kPa. The predicted values decreased from 4.1% to 2.1% for shrinkage porosity, and 88.5 μm to 81.2 μm for the secondary dendritic arm spacing. The optimal results proved the feasibility of the developed program in multi-objective optimization.Chen Zhang Yu Fu Han Wang Hai Hao 2018China Foundry2018,15,5:8

Corrosion mechanism of micro-arc oxidation treated biocompatible AZ31 magnesium alloy in simulated body fluid显示文摘The rapid degradation of magnesium(Mg) based alloys has prevented their further use in orthopedic trauma fixation and vascular intervention, and therefore it is essential to investigate the corrosion mechanism for improving the corrosion resistance of these alloys. In this work, the effect of applied voltage on the surface morphology and the corrosion behavior of micro-arc oxidation(MAO) with different voltages were carried out to obtain biocompatible ceramic coatings on AZ31 Mg alloy. The effects of applied voltage on the surface morphology and the corrosion behavior of MAO samples in the simulated body fluid(SBF) were studied systematically. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD)were employed to characterize the morphologies and phase compositions of coating before and after corrosion. The results showed that corrosion resistance of the MAO coating obtained at 250 V was better than the others in SBF. The dense layer of MAO coating and the corrosion precipitation were the key factors for corrosion behavior. The corrosion of precipitation Mg(OH)2and the calcium phosphate(Ca–P) minerals on the surface of MAO coatings could enhance their corrosion resistance effectively. In addition, the mechanism of MAO coated Mg alloys was proposed.Ying Li Fang Lu Honglong Li Wenjun Zhu Haobo Pan Guoxin Tan Yonghua Lao Chengyun Ning Guoxin Ni 2014Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2014,24,5:7
Effect of intermetallic compounds on the fracture behavior of dissimilar friction stir welding joints of Mg and Al alloys显示文摘Joining Mg to Al is challenging because of the deterioration of mechanical properties caused by the formation of intermetallic compounds(IMCs) at the Mg/Al interface. This study aims to improve the mechanical properties of welded samples by preventing the fracture location at the Mg/Al interface. Friction stir welding was performed to join Mg to Al at different rotational and travel speeds. The microstructure of the welded samples showed the IMCs layers containing Al12Mg17(γ) and Al3Mg2(β) at the welding zone with a thickness(< 3.5 μm). Mechanical properties were mainly affected by the thickness of the IMCs, which was governed by welding parameters. The highest tensile strength was obtained at 600 r/min and 40 mm/min with a welding efficiency of 80%. The specimens could fracture along the boundary at the thermo-mechanically affected zone in the Mg side of the welded joint.Amir Hossein Baghdadi Zainuddin Sajuri Nor Fazilah Mohamad Selamat Mohd Zaidi Omar Yukio Miyashita Amir Hossein Kokabi 2019International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2019,26,10:5
Corrosion resistance and antibacterial effects of hydroxyapatite coating induced by polyacrylic acid and gentamicin sulfate on magnesium alloy显示文摘Magnesium(Mg)alloys have attracted considerable research attention as potential biocompatible implant materials. However, the major barriers to the extended use of such medical devices are the possibility of high corrosion rate and implantassociated infections. To solve them,a novel polyacrylic acid(PAA)/gentamicin sulfate(GS)-hydroxyapatite(HAp)coating was synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal deposition method.Characteristics of functional coatings were investigated by SEM,FTIR and XRD.Corrosion properties of samples were evaluated by electrochemical and hydrogen evolution tests.Antibacterial activities of the coatings against Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus)were measured by the plate-counting method. Results showed that the as-prepared HAp coating with dense and flawless morphologies could not only enhance the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys, but also improve the adhesion strength between the HAp coating and the substrate. In addition, the induction of the apatite coating during immersion confirmed the excellent mineralization ability of the HAp coating. Moreover, the obtained HAp coati ng possessed antibacterial properties and could prolong the release of GS.Thus, the PAA/GS-HAp coated Mg alloy could serve as a better candidate for biomedical applications with good anti-corrosion and antibacterial properties.Xiao-Jing JI Qiang CHENG Jing WANG Yan-Bin ZHAO Zhuang-Zhuang HAN Fen ZHANG Shuo-Qi LI Rong-Chang ZENG Zhen-Lin WANG 2019Frontiers of Materials Science2019,13,1:5
Dispersion of niquel on the microstructure in magnesium based alloys for hydrogen storage显示文摘Mg–Xwt.%Ni(X=5 and 20)alloys have been prepared by mechanical alloying using milling times of 15 and 30 h in a planetary ball milling to know the effects of magnesium with the addition of Ni as catalyst, dispersion on the microstructure, area surface and the efficiency of hydrogen storage.SEM-EDS,XRD and ImageJ^(■)software have been used to characterize the microstructure and chemical composition of the alloys.Hydriding experiments were performed as batch-type tests at 200,250 and 300℃ under 2 MPa H2 pressure during 30 min. These experiments resulted in varying amounts of MgH2 in the hydrided powders depending on composition and hydriding conditions. The best results point to an optimum Ni dispersion, which in turn depends on Ni content and milling time.A.A.Zaldıvar-Cadena I.Dıaz-Pena J.G.Cabanas-Moreno 2013Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2013,1,4:5
