Interspecific and intraspecific variation in specific root length drives aboveground biodiversity effects in young experimental forest stands显示文摘Aims Although the net biodiversity effect(NE)can be statistically partitioned into complementarity and selection effects(CE and SE),there are different underlying mechanisms that can cause a certain partitioning. Our objective was to assess the role of resource partitioning and species interactions as two important mechanisms that can bring about CEs by interspecific and intraspecific trait variation. Methods We measured tree height of 2493 living individuals in 57 plots and specific root length(SRL)on first-order roots of 368 of these individuals across different species richness levels(1,2,4,8 species)in a large-scale forest biodiversity and ecosystem functioning experiment in subtropical China(BEF-China)established in 2009.We describe the effects of resource partitioning between species by a fixed component of interspecific functional diversity(RaoQ)and further effects of species interactions by variable components of interspecific and intraspecific functional diversity(community weighted trait similarity and trait dissimilarity,CWS and CWD).Finally,we examined the relationships between biodiversity effects on stand-level tree height and functional diversity(RaoQ,CWS and CWD)in SRL using linear regression and assessed the relative importance of these three components of functional diversity in explaining the diversity effects.Important Findings Our results show that species richness significantly affected SRL in five and tree height in ten out of 16 species.A positive NE was generally brought about by a positive CE on stand-level tree height and related to high values of RaoQ and CWS in SRL.A positive CE was related to high values of all three components of root functional diversity(RaoQ,CWS and CWD).Our study suggests that both resource partitioning and species interactions are the underlying mechanisms of biodiversity effects on stand-level tree growth in subtropical forest. | Wensheng Bu Bernhard Schmid Xiaojuan Liu Ying Li Werner Härdtle Goddert von Oheimb Yu Liang Zhenkai Sun Yuanyuan Huang Helge Bruelheide Keping Ma | 2017 | Journal of Plant Ecology2017,10,1: | 18
Positive effects of tree species richness on fine-root production in a subtropical forest in SE-China显示文摘Aims Fine roots play an important role in the biogeochemical cycles of terrestrial ecosystems and are vital for understanding forest ecosystem functioning and services.Higher plant species diversity has been largely reported to increase aboveground community biomass, but how biodiversity affects fine-root production and the related mechanisms in forests remain unclear. In this study,we aim to answer two questions:(i)does fine-root production increase with tree species richness?(ii)Can this effect be explained by niche complementarity among species? Methods We analyzed data from a large forest biodiversity experiment(BEF-China)with 5-year-old trees.Fine-root growth was measured as standing biomass and annual fine-root regrowth was estimated using ingrowth cores. Moreover, relative yield was calculated to test whether over-or under-yielding occurred when mixtures were compared with the average monoculture of the species included in the mixtures. We calculated functional diversity for fine-root(≤2 mm in diameter)traits by Rao’s quadratic entropy index for each species mixture. The effects of manipulated tree species richness and identity on fine-root traits were analyzed with linear mixed-effects models.Mixed models were also used to test the relationships between tree species richness and fine-root standing biomass, annual regrowth and vertical heterogeneity.Important Findings Fine roots of more than one species were found in half of the soil cores in mixtures indicating that belowground interactions in these young forest stands occurred much earlier than canopy closure. We found significant differences among species in fine-root traits such as diameter and specific root length(SRL),which suggested different resource-use strategies and niche partitioning among species.Mean fine-root diameter of species ranged from 0.31 to 0.74 mm,mean SRL ranged from 12.43 m·g^(−1)to 70.22 m·g^(−1)and mean vertical distribution indexβranged from 0.68 to 0.93.There was a significant positive relationship between species richness and the evenness of the vertical distribution of fine-root standing biomass. Moreover, marginally significant positive relationships existed between species richness and standing biomass as well as annual regrowth of fine roots.Relative yields and Rao’s quadratic entropy index were both not significantly affected by species richness. However, the relative yield of fine-root standing biomass was marginally correlated with Rao’s quadratic entropy index, implying that belowground niche complementarity between species does contribute to diversity effects. In conclusion, our study showed positive effects of species richness on the filling of soil volume by fine roots in the studied experimental forest communities. This has positive effects on fine-root standing biomass and may also lead to increased aboveground biomass. | Zhenkai Sun Xiaojuan Liu Bernhard Schmid Helge Bruelheide Wensheng Bu Keping Ma | 2017 | Journal of Plant Ecology2017,10,1: | 14
Multiple-target tracking with adaptive sampling intervals for phased-array radar显示文摘A novel adaptive sampling interval algorithm for multitarget tracking is presented. This algorithm which is based on interacting multiple models incorporates the grey relational grade(GRG) into the particle swarm optimization(PSO).Firstly, the desired tracking accuracy is set for each target.Secondly, sampling intervals are selected as particles, and then the advantage of the GRG is taken as the measurement function for resource management.Meanwhile, the fitness value of the PSO is used to measure the difference between desired tracking accuracy and estimated tracking accuracy. Finally,it is suggested that the radar should track the target whose prediction value of the next sampling interval is the smallest.Simulations show that the proposed method improves both the tracking accuracy and tracking efficiency of the phased-array radar. | Zhenkai Zhang Jianjiang Zhou Fei Wang Weiqiang Liu Hongbing Yang | 2011 | Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2011,22,5: | 9
Impending HRT wave precursors to the Wenchuan M_s8.0 earthquake and methods of earthquake impending prediction by using HRT wave显示文摘We deployed four geo-electric monitoring stations in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces from 2004, using the new generation of equipment (PS-100) and technologies to capture the HRT wave earthquake precursor. Before the Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake, we recorded the HRT wave precursor at the only operating station in Hongge (HG, Δ=465 km) and found that significant impending signal had been recorded at the station in the early morning ( 0―5 am) of 12th of May, 2008. The precursor for this earthquake is consistent with precursors recorded for other strong earthquakes. The measured physical properties (geo-resistivity and telluric-current) show tidal wave period oscillations from several days to several months before the earthquakes and the amplitude of such HT oscillation increases significantly towards the occurrence of an earthquake. These HT and RT waves from the epicenter have a causal relationship with the earthquakes that happened several days later. The arrival time of two RT waves is proportional to the distance from the station to the epicenter. The estimated natural decay of the amplitude is correlated with the natural period (T0) of the earthquake fault, which is proportional to the fault length. From this relationship, we can predict the earthquake magnitude. For magnitude 6―9 earthquakes, the natural period is about 1―6 hours. Such oscillation comes from the epicenter area and they can propagate several thousand kilometers in the Earth's crust. Before a strong earthquake in the shallow crust, the conductive pore fluid will experience major changes before the fault rapture. Such fluid change will emit an oscillation in the pore fluid pressure. This is the mechanism for the HRT wave generation. Since the China Earthquake Administration funded the HRT wave short-term earth-quake prediction project in 2003, the first record of HRT precursor wave has been recorded from the 2004-12-26 Sumatra Mw9.0 earthquake with the largest epicentre distance Δ=2900 km. Thereafter, we have captured HRT waves from more than twenty strong earthquakes, which are well-matched and show repeatability, consistency and regularity. All our observation with the HRT waves demonstrate that HRT wave precursors to earthquakes indeed exist. Strong earthquakes can be predicted and short-term and impending earthquake prediction is achievable in the very near future. From all the observations, including the ones at HG station from Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake, we conclude that using HRT wave to predict earthquakes is feasible. | QIAN FuYe ZHAO BiRu QIAN Wei ZHAO Jian HE ShiGen ZHANG HongKui LI ShiYu LI ShaoKun YAN GuLiang WANG ChengMin SUN ZhenKai ZHANG DongNing LU Jun ZHANG Ping YANG GuoJun SUN JiaLin GUO ChunSheng TANG YuXiong XU JianMing XIA KunTao JU Hang YIN BangHong LI Ming YANG DongSheng QI WeiLuo HE TaiMing GUAN HuaPing ZHAO YuLin | 2009 | Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,10: | 8
Pore Size Distribution of a Tight Sandstone Reservoir and its Effect on Micro Pore-throat Structure: A Case Study of the Chang 7 Member of the Xin’anbian Block, Ordos Basin, China显示文摘Pore distribution and micro pore-throat structure characteristics are significant for tight oil reservoir evaluation, but their relationship remains unclear. This paper selects the tight sandstone reservoir of the Chang 7 member of the Xin’anbian Block in the Ordos Basin as the research object and analyzes the pore size distribution and micro pore-throat structure using field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), high-pressure mercury injection(HPMI), highpressure mercury injection, and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) analyses. The study finds that:(1) Based on the pore size distribution, the tight sandstone reservoir is characterized by three main patterns with different peak amplitudes. The former peak corresponds to the nanopore scale, and the latter peak corresponds to the micropore scale. Then, the tight sandstone reservoir is categorized into three types: type 1 reservoir contains more nanopores with a nanopore-to-micropore volume ratio of 82:18;type 2 reservoir has a nanopore-to-micropore volume ratio of 47:53;and type 3 reservoir contains more micropores with a nanopore-to-micropore volume ratio of 35:65.(2) Affected by the pore size distribution, the throat radius distributions of different reservoir types are notably offset. The type 1 reservoir throat radius distribution curve is weakly unimodal, with a relatively dispersed distribution and peak ranging from 0.01 μm to 0.025 μm. The type 2 reservoir’s throat radius distribution curve is single-peaked with a wide distribution range and peak from 0.1 μm to 0.25 μm. The type 3 reservoir’s throat radius distribution curve is single-peaked with a relatively narrow distribution and peak from 0.1 μm to 0.25 μm. With increasing micropore volume, pore-throat structure characteristics gradually improve.(3) The correlation between micropore permeability and porosity exceeds that of nanopores, indicating that the development of micropores notably influences the seepage capacity. In the type 1 reservoir, only the mean radius and effective porosity have suitable correlations with the nanopore and micropore porosities. The pore-throat structure parameters of the type 2 and 3 reservoirs have reasonable correlations with the nanopore and micropore porosities, indicating that the development of these types of reservoirs is affected by the pore size distribution. This study is of great significance for evaluating lacustrine tight sandstone reservoirs in China. The research results can provide guidance for evaluating tight sandstone reservoirs in other regions based on pore size distribution. | LI Peng JIA Chengzao JIN Zhijun LIU Quanyou BI HeZHENG Min WU Songtao HUANG Zhenkai | 2020 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2020,94,2: | 5
Novel sensor selection strategy for LPI based on an improved IMMPF tracking method显示文摘Sensor platforms with active sensing equipment such as radar may betray their existence, by emitting energy that will be intercepted by enemy surveillance sensors. The radar with less emission has more excellent performance of the low probability of intercept(LPI). In order to reduce the emission times of the radar, a novel sensor selection strategy based on an improved interacting multiple model particle filter(IMMPF) tracking method is presented. Firstly the IMMPF tracking method is improved by increasing the weight of the particle which is close to the system state and updating the model probability of every particle. Then a sensor selection approach for LPI takes use of both the target's maneuverability and the state's uncertainty to decide the radar's radiation time. The radar will work only when the target's maneuverability and the state's uncertainty exceed the control capability of the passive sensors. Tracking accuracy and LPI performance are demonstrated in the Monte Carlo simulations. | Zhenkai Zhang Jiehao Zhu Yubo Tian Hailin Li | 2014 | Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2014,25,6: | 4
Early positive effects of tree species richness on soil organic carbon accumulation in a large-scale forest biodiversity experiment显示文摘Aims tree species richness has been reported to have positive effects on aboveground biomass and productivity, but little is known about its effects on soil organic carbon(SOC)accumulation. Methods to close this gap,we made use of a large biodiversity-ecosystem functioning experiment in subtropical china(BEF-china)and tested whether tree species richness enhanced SOC accumulation. In 2010 and 2015,vertically layered soil samples were taken to a depth of 30 cm from 57 plots ranging in tree species richness from one to eight species.Least squares-based linear models and analysis of variance were used to investigate tree diversity effects.Structural equation modeling was used to explore hypothesized indirect relationships between tree species richness,leaf-litter biomass,leaf-litter carbon content,fine-root biomass and SOC accumulation.Important Findings Overall,SOC content decreased by 5.7 and 1.1 g C kg^(-1) in the top 0-5 and 5-10 cm soil depth, respectively, but increased by 1.0 and 1.5 g C kg^(-1) in the deeper 10-20 and 20-30 cm soil depth,respect-ively.converting SOC content to SOC stocks using measures of soil bulk density showed that tree species richness did enhance SOC accumulation in the different soil depths.these effects could only to some extent be explained by leaf-litter biomass and not by fine-root biomass. Our findings suggest that carbon storage in new forests in china could be increased by planting more diverse stands, with the potential to contribute to mitigation of climate warming. | Yin Li Helge Bruelheide Thomas Scholten Bernhard Schmid Zhenkai Sun Naili Zhang Wensheng Bu Xiaojuan Liu Keping Ma | 2019 | Journal of Plant Ecology2019,12,5: | 3
Late Mesozoic rifting and its deep dynamic mechanisms in the central Sulu orogenic belt: Records from Lingshan Island显示文摘The Lingshan Island scientific drill confirms that two episodes(Laiyang period and Qingshan period) of rifting developed in the central Sulu orogenic belt(SOB) in Late Mesozoic. With a set of methods including fieldwork, drilling, core logging, zircon U-Pb dating and whole rock geochemistry applied, the age, the depositional sequence and the deep dynamic mechanisms of rift evolution were unraveled. The stratigraphic sequence of the Laiyang-Qingshan Groups on Lingshan Island was composed of two different rifting sequences:(1) Laiyang Group(147–125 Ma), which consists of deep-water gravity flow deposits with interlayers of intermediate volcanic rocks;and(2) Lower Qingshan Group(125–119 Ma), which unconformably overlies the former sequence and contains subaerial volcanic deposits and terrestrial deposits. The tectonic environment changed during the evolution of these two episodes of rifting: the rift was in a NNW-SSE extensional environment in the Laiyang period and showed the typical passive rifting character that “lithospheric extension and rifting preceded volcanism”. The passive rifting period was ended by a short WNW-ESE compression at about 125 Ma. After that, the tectonic environment transferred to a strong NW-SE extensional environment and the rifting evolved into a volcanic arc basin in the Qingshan period. The igneous rocks are shoshonitic to high-K calc-alkaline trachyandesites to trachytes with a few intercalated lamprophyres and a rhyolite. The geochemical characteristics of the igneous rocks indicate that they are mantle-derived melts with a metasomatized mantle source and/or crustal contamination. In addition, an increased thinning of the lithosphere happened during the rifting episodes. The low-angle subduction of the Paleo-Pacific plate in the Jurassic weakened the thickened SOB lithospheric mantle. The rollback of the subducting plate started in late Jurassic to early Cretaceous, and the SOB lithospheric mantle was delaminated synchronously because of the gravity collapse. Thus, this caused passive rifting in the Laiyang period. Thereafter, the rollback and trench retreat of the high-angle subducting Paleo-Pacific plate would have achieved its climax, resulting in the strong regional extension. Passive rifting was ended by the crustal uplift caused by asthenospheric upwelling beneath the rift. The lower crust was heated by the upwelling asthenosphere and partially melted to form felsic melts, which were emplaced upwards and erupted explosively. The rift evolved into a volcanic arc basin in the Qingshan period and showed some characteristics of active rifting. Above all, a passive rifting in the Laiyang period and a volcanic arc basin in the Qingshan period developed successively in the Lingshan Island area(the central SOB). This records the transfer of the study area from the Paleo-Tethys tectonic domain to the circum-Pacific tectonic domain. The delamination of SOB lithospheric mantle and the upwelling of asthenospheric material were the deep dynamic mechanisms driving the development and evolution of two rift episodes. Additionally, the rift development was controlled remotely by the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific plate. | Tengfei ZHOU Yaoqi ZHOU Nina SФAGER Paul Martin HOLM Zhenkai ZHANG Jun WANG Zhao LIANG Hongyu MU Yanjun CHENG Feifei LIU Miao WANG Yue ZHANG Hui ZHANG Yangjian GU Shihui DONG Hanjie ZHAO Manjie LI Yang CHEN Yanzi LIU | 2022 | Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,9: | 3
Pore Characteristics and Factors Controlling Lacustrine Shales from the Upper Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation of the Songliao Basin,Northeast China:A Study Combining SEM,Low-temperature Gas Adsorption and MICP Experiments显示文摘To investigate pore characteristics and the factors controlling lacustrine shales, geochemical, mineralogical and petrophysical experiments were performed on 23 shale samples from the Qingshankou Formation of the Songliao Basin,China.A comparison of mercury injection capillary pressure(MICP)and low-temperature N2 adsorption pore-size distribution showed that MICP has a higher pore-size distribution(PSD)line in its overlapping pore diameter range, which may be elevated by the higher pressure of MICP.Therefore,in the overlapping range,low-temperature N2 adsorption data were preferred in pore characterization.Negative correlations were observed between pore volumes and TOC content, indicating organic matter pores are not well-developed in the studied samples. This may be related to their low grade of maturity and type I kerogens. There existed negative relationships between pore volumes and S1,which illustrated that liquid hydrocarbons occupied some pore space.Micropore volume had a better correlation with S1 than mesopore and macropore volumes, which suggests that liquid hydrocarbons preferentially occur in micropores. No obvious relationships between pore volumes and quartz or feldspar were observed, while pore volumes increased with the increasing clay mineral content. These relationships indicate that intraparticle pores in clay minerals represent the principal pore type. | HAN Hui DAI Jie GUO Chen ZHONG Ningning PANG Peng DING Zhengang CHEN Jianping HUANG Zhenkai GAO Yuan LUO Jinyu LI Qirui ZHANG Zhaokun | 2021 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2021,95,2: | 2
Organic-rich formation and hydrocarbon enrichment of lacustrine shale strata:A case study of Chang 7 Member显示文摘Lacustrine shale is an important target for the exploration of unconventional oil and gas in China beyond marine shale gas. However, the formation environment of lacustrine shale differs from that of marine shale, resulting in a different reservoir composition, organic matter, oil and gas content, and hydrocarbon mobility. In this study, the Chang 7 shale of the Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin was used to analyze the effect of volcanic activity on the paleoproductivity and preservation conditions during the formation of lacustrine shale. The results show that algae and bacteria were developed before the eruption. After the eruption, the number of bacteria declined, but the increased prosperity of algae reflects that the volcanic activity enhanced ancient productivity. The sulfate generated by volcanic activity promotes bacterial sulfate reduction, and the produced H_(2)S leads to a strong reducing environment in the waterbody, which is conducive to the preservation of organic matter.Organic geochemical analysis shows that the black shale in the shale strata has a high total organic carbon(TOC)content and strong hydrocarbon generation potential, whereas the tuff has a low TOC content and can scarcely generate hydrocarbons, indicating that the tuff deposited by volcanic activity cannot be considered as effective source rock.In terms of storage space, shale is mainly laminar and dispersed, and it includes organic and inorganic pores. The development of organic pores is affected by thermal maturity, whereas inorganic pores mainly occur between detrital particles and crystals.Tuff is mainly supported by heterogeneous matrix and associated with alteration. Its pores include inter-and intragranular mineral pores. The development of tight sandstone pores is affected by compaction, cementation, and dissolution, which mainly consist of intra-and intergranular pores. The Chang 7 lacustrine shale generally contains oil,but different lithologies have different oil drainage efficiencies.Sandstone and shale exhibit the best and worst oil drainage efficiency, respectively. It is mainly affected by the pore size distribution, fluid properties, and rock wettability. Therefore, the development of shale oil should mainly focus on lacustrine shale formations with interbeds. The mutual dissolution of organic matter and hydrocarbons in the shale section leads to the poor mobility and difficult development of hydrocarbons. | Quanyou LIU Peng LI Zhijun JIN Yuewu SUN Guang HU Dongya ZHU Zhenkai HUANG Xinping LIANG Rui ZHANG Jiayi LIU | 2022 | Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,1: | 2

RAF22,ABI1 and OST1 form a dynamic interactive network that optimizes plant growth and responses to drought stress in Arabidopsis显示文摘Plants adapt to their ever-changing environment via positive and negative signals induced by environmental stimuli.Drought stress, for instance, induces accumulation of the plant hormone abscisic acid(ABA),triggering ABA signal transduction. However, the molecular mechanisms for switching between plant growth promotion and stress response remain poorly understood. Here we report that RAF(rapidly accelerated fibrosarcoma)-LIKE MITOGEN-ACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE KINASE KINASE 22(RAF22)in Arabidopsis tha/iana physically interacts with ABA INSENSITIVE 1(ABl1)and phosphorylates ABl1 at Ser416 residue to enhance its phosphatase activity.Interestingly,ABl1 can also enhance the activity of RAF22 through dephosphorylation, reciprocally inhibiting ABA signaling and promoting the maintenance of plant growth under normal conditions.Under drought stress, however, the ASA-activated OPEN STOMATA1(OST1)phosphorylates the Ser81 residue of RAF22 and inhibits its kinase activity, restraining its enhancement of ABl1 activity.Taken together, our study reveals that RAF22,ABl1,and OST1 form a dynamic regulatory network that plays crucial roles in optimizing plant growth and environmental adaptation under drought stress. | Zhihui Sun Zhenkai Feng Yanglin Ding Yuanpeng Qi Shan Jiang Zhen Li Yu Wang Junsheng Qi Chunpeng Song Shuhua Yang Zhizhong Gong | 2022 | Molecular Plant2022,15,7: | 1
Optimal Dual-Channel Dynamic Pricing of Perishable Items under Different Attenuation Coefficients of Demands显示文摘This paper discusses optimal dual-channel dynamic pricing of a retailer who sells perishable products in a finite horizon. The type of product which is equipped with different attenuation coefficients of demands on different sales channels is considered.Novel demand functions for the two channels are proposed according to attenuation coefficients of demands, and then a decision model is constructed, which can be handled stage-by-stage.It is shown that the sales price and the sales quantity of the channel which possesses more market shares are both higher than the ones of the other channel at each sales stage.More importantly,by analyzing the reasonability of the obtained solution,a necessary and sufficient condition is proposed to guarantee that both of the two channels will not stop selling through the entire period. We also propose an approach by the elimination method to deal with cases in which some channel stops selling.Further,we demonstrate that the channel which possesses more market shares is the optimal option when only one channel runs. Finally, numerical examples are presented to investigate the change of sales prices of the two channels under different market potential demands. | Zhenkai Lou Fujun Hou Xuming Lou | 2021 | Journal of Systems Science and Systems Engineering2021,30,1: | 1

Functional trait space and redundancy of plant communities decrease toward cold temperature at high altitudes in Southwest China显示文摘Plant communities in mountainous areas shift gradually as climatic conditions change with altitude. How trait structure in multivariate space adapts to these varying climates in natural forest stands is unclear. Studying the multivariate functional trait structure and redundancy of tree communities along altitude gradients is crucial to understanding how temperature change affects natural forest stands. In this study, the leaf area, specific leaf area, leaf carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorous content from 1,590 trees were collected and used to construct the functional trait space of 12 plant communities at altitudes ranging from 800 m to 3,800 m across three mountains. Hypervolume overlap was calculated to quantify species trait redundancy per community. First, hypervolumes of species exclusion and full species set were calculated, respectively. Second, the overlap between these two volumes was calculated to obtain hypervolume overlap. Results showed that the functional trait space significantly increased with mean annual temperature toward lower altitudes within and across three mountains, whereas species trait redundancy had different patterns between mountains. Thus, warming can widen functional trait space and alter the redundancy in plant communities. The inconsistent patterns of redundancy between mountains suggest that warming exerts varying influences on different ecosystems. Identification of climate-vulnerable ecosystems is important in the face of global warming. | Lan Zhang Xiaojuan Liu Zhenhua Sun Wensheng Bu Franca J.Bongers Xiaoyang Song Jie Yang Zhenkai Sun Yin Li Shan Li Min Cao Keping Ma Nathan G.Swenson | 2023 | Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,2: | 1
